Went to the JobCentre today, and the Army were there going "Be the Best" ... now T-Mobile just told me I didn't have the qualifications to sell phones, Microsoft said I didn't have the qualifications to answer the phones, and the Army want to let me loose with a machine gun?

My goodness, that Neil Young cover is gorgeous. It's always been one of my favorites of his. It's nice to see it get such lovely treatment.

Definitely the best one since Central Reservation, I'd say.
I wouldn't, have to say I've found it a bit of a disappointment really, starts of strongly but doesn't go anywhere.

Sorry people

Listened to it for the first time on something other than computer speakers. Yesterday I stopped by a CD/Record store (remember those?) and finally bought the CD. I have to say it makes really great driving music. In fact, I could envision it being used in a car commercial (probably Subaru or VW) if Beth could be brought around to aqreeing to it. ;) Remember, VW (figuratively) resurected Nick Drake from obscurity with this ad back in 2000: http://youtu.be/BIOW9fLT9eY

was joking about charts!! mind first time i have looked at one for ages. Always deemed that as "pop" charts meself - usually an indication of poor taste!

Reviews across the board appear to be very positive, especially in the US.

I'm not one for writing reviews, so this will be short. this is probably the first Beth album that I've liked in it's entirety, rather than certain songs that grab me and others that leave me cold. her best yet? i dunno, but I can see me playing this a lot more than say - daybreaker.

is it just me or is she channeling Joni in the closer Mystery? :)

I have my own theory about 'Mystery'.

I've a hunch someone must have given Beth a copy of Donovan's 1967 masterpiece 'A Gift from a Flower to a Garden' when she got stuck into motherhood - it would have been a most appropriate gift under the circumstances - and 'Mystery' reminds me of one of the songs on that album. (But I can't remember which, after all this time!)

There is also a (quite different) song about magpies on the Donovan ("The magpie is a most illustrious bird/ Dwells in a diamond tree/ One brings sorrow and one brings joy/ Sorrow and joy for me").

It's all too coincidental! ;)

Now you're sittin' on a Paris train, laughing at your own jokes again
