"Hrmlm!" Monday's head jolted up as she woke up from her daydreaming...but it wasn't like any other dreams she had before. This time, she had perfect recollection of the dream. The overly blue room, the perfectly set dinner table, a maid/waitress named Victoria, and...and Morpheus, her own persona. She rubbed both her eyes to knock off the crusties, which told her that she was actually asleep rather than daydreaming. "...The trip here was pretty long." Looking around her new single dormitory room, she found her baggage unpacked and a custom calender made from her family picture, every month signed with a message by at least one family member. She sighed and skimmed through some, stopping at a picture of her house back in California with all her family lined up in front. "I already miss you guys..." Monday took a long good look at her cheap, blue bracelets made by her toddler brother and the necklace of the same quality from her toddler sister. "Oh Turner, Theresa...Who's gonna play with you now that I'm long gone." Two children, one boy and one girl, wearing the similar fashion clothes along with the same gray hair and brown eyes are running and playing along one another in a grassy field. Peaceful and sunny, their laughters fill the air with innocent joy, but they suddenly stop with a confused look in their face. "Where's big sis Mona..." "Yea...*sniff* Where is she..." The once joyful atmosphere suddenly turned moody and the once sunny sky turned pitch black, filled with the vigorous sound of thunder claps. It began to rain the moment tears began to fall from the twin's eyes... "... ... ...Oh what the heck?! What am I thinking!" Snapping out from the daydream, Monday pulled back her left sleeve to reveal not one, but multiple scratch and bite marks all around her arm. "Those little pests are nothing but trouble! Scratching and biting me like some animals...Ha! I'm glad I'm away from them!" she said with a proud shout, but soon finding herself missing those very same pests the second after. "Schools not gonna start for a while, and Mammy and Pappy didn't let me bring a computer...I'm so bored." Resting her head against the table, there was a small silence before she perked up spontaneously. Without anything to say, her hand dug into her pocket and pulled out the tarot deck she had in her dream about the Velvet Room. "There were some other students in that dream...M-maybe I should ask them about this thing." Maybe she was actually curious about the whole Persona thing, maybe she was using it as an excuse to approach other students to make friends, but she held on to the tarot card tightly around her fingers and walked out from her room. Finding her self in a narrow hall, she headed down the stairs and into the dormitory lobby, filled with comfy sofas and tables for social gatherings. Monday grabbed the sofa closest to the door and placed the tarot deck out in the open in hopes that other passerby students might see it and catch their attention. "N-now...Now to wait." The nervous girl sat up straight with both her hands tightly grabbing the skirt, her hair casting a shadow on her eyes as she subconsciously slipped into her daydream state to pass the time... It was a thick, green forest that surrounded Monday...and the clapping of a horse hoof caught her attention as a prince on a white horse approached her from behind....... A small, pleasant smile lit up on the girl's face as she dreamed along. |

The click-clack of footsteps echoed through the lobby as Lily descended down the stairs, and as soon as she reached the bottom, a muffled yawn escaped from her throat. Just a glance at her was enough to come to an understanding that Ms. Monteray was not a quick waker. Her left shoe was untied, the first and fifth buttons on her uniform top were undone, and the hair, which was supposed to have been arranged in a bun, looked more like a hay bale. Some breakfast would get her life back in order, but until then, it was the dark side of a beauty queen for everyone to see. "... Mm..." grumbled Lily incomprehensibly as she cracked one emerald green eye open after her yawn. She had woken up on the weird side of the bed, since she had a full recollection of that banquet hall from her dreams. Up until now she had usually only remembered her nightmares, and even then they were hard to comprehend. The banquet hall, the waitress, the cards, and... Harmonia... were all clear as a bell, though she still didn't get what it meant. There was a vague recollection in the back of her head that it had something to do with the student orientation she was at yesterday, but she kinda... well, blanked out for most of it. Oops. She wasn't about to start sorting out her dreams at the foot of the main stairway, so Lily looked around the mostly vacant lobby until her eyes came upon a somewhat frail-looking girl. She looked pretty out of it... maybe daydreaming. Lily approached cautiously, not wanting to jar the girl from her mental wandering. It was then that something on the table caught Lily's eye: a tarot deck, just like the one in her dreams. She had gotten a little freaked out when she woke up to see that she really did have a tarot deck, but remembered after a minute that someone from the academy's staff issued it to her. Lily glanced left, right, then left again, before her curiosity got the better of her. She reached over to the other girl's tarot deck and pulled the top card. Lily couldn't really put a finger on why, but she had some compelling want to see what that top card was. "Moon..." she said quietly as she looked at the card's face. |

Kyra's eyes fluttered open as she returned to the waking world. She didn't remember sleeping, certainly not in the middle of the lobby. What did she remember? Those damned threads had converged on a single point ahead of her, here in the lobby, and then there had been an unconscious urge to walk into the point. The threads had never hindered her movement, so why not? Once she had...there was a door? And a room, a blue room, and a woman who knew about threads even though Kyra never said more than a word inside. And then, Ananke... But she had consciously walked out of the room after that, right? She remembered walking out, so why was she back here, just waking up? Kyra blinked, looking around at the dormitory lobby. She had managed to fall onto a couch, something she should probably have been thankful for if she hadn't been so confused. Her tarot deck had fallen out of her pocket at some point and spilled across the ground, though they still resembled a stack of cards on some level. The top card, then, was overturned. Fortune. One, and now two other people had entered the lobby now. They probably wouldn't notice or care about Kyra, the sleepless girl who finally got some excuse for real sleep and was just waking. Her hair hung limply over her face, masking one shadowed eye and turning one who may have otherwise been able to rival the school's resident beauty queen into something she thought, or perhaps hoped, was undesirable. All the better for her. The last thing she needed was people's attention. Now if only the first one would stop talking... |

As it turned out, Aaron hadn't been asleep for that long during his adventure in the weird blue room. The chat box on his computer had only registered around a hundred random letters as a result of his passing out on the keyboard. He got up, rubbed his eyes and shut off the monitor. "Morning...? Did I get any sleep at all last night?" He felt fine, so he probably did. He walked over to his mostly still-packed luggage and withdrew a light black jacket, which he threw on. His favorite shirt and jeans had spent the night along with him, making it a bit more convenient. On his way out of the room, Aaron remembered the deck of tarot cards sitting on his nightstand. Immediately grabbing them, he withdrew the Magician card and left the rest where they sat. "No point lugging a whole deck of cards around." The journey from his room to the lobby was uneventful. One girl dressed in the school uniform had walked by with a nervous expression, which made Aaron wonder how many people had experienced the same thing he had last night. He emerged from the hallway to the large lobby and stopped at the top of the stairs. Another student passed by wearing the school uniform as he headed into the hallway, leaving the expansive room devoid of occupants save for three girls of varying age. One of them was wearing a uniform and looked like she'd just rolled out of bed... literally. The apparently youngest one looked pretty normal and the third did too, despite having collapsed onto a couch. Maybe I should have worn the uniform anyway... Aaron noticed that there appeared to be a tarot deck... or two, in use between the three, which immediately perked his interest. "Maybe this will have something to do with that weird nighttime meeting. Odd that it only makes sense after what happened last night," he noted aloud in an undertone. Aaron wasn't against talking to women at all, but simply approaching three of them at once seemed overly casual. Hopefully walking up to them and talking about the occult would help them all get to know each other. Yeah, right, Aaron scoffed to himself. "Now or never," he told himself and descended the staircase. He crossed the lobby to where they were in a few short seconds and surveyed the collapsed girl, the normal one and the one in disarray, wondering how to break the ice. Direct approach it is. "Uh, you three wouldn't happen to have had a weird dream involving a blue room last night, would you?" Aaron asked casually. He figured it was the best way to get their attention. |

And so, arriving into the castle filled with arts, tapestry, and so much more, Monday couldn't hold in the excitement as she jumped to hug the princ-... "Ghuhiah!!" Monday's eye widened as she came back to the waking world from one of her long-lasting fantasy, but her face relaxed with a relaxed smile. "Oh...That would be nice..." However, as soon as her eyes focused, she saw three students out of the blue! One was a very pretty girl, but the way she was dressed told other wise, and she was almost face to face as she examined Monday's deck of tarot. The other girl was simply lying down from the corner of the lobby, possibly still sleeping, but it was hard to make out with the hair hiding her hair. Finally, a rather tall boy came by the lobby entrance, looking to ask everyone a short question. The poor girl was in shock. When she devised this small plan, she was hoping for one, maybe two students to come by and discuss about the strange dream. Now finding herself surrounded by three, all presumably older than her, she was speechless and her eyes kept on darting back and forth to all three figures; mostly towards the messy haired girl in front of her. "Hey, what should we do about this poor freshman..." said the messy haired girl with a dirty look on her eyes. "I dunno...I'm too tired. Lets get this over with so I can go back to bed." The girl in the corner rose up from the sofa and brushed away her hair away from her face, revealing a face covered in pimples and layers of makeup. "I say we get her over to the pool. It's fall, and the water there is pretty frikken cold, I heard!" The boy standing by the door crossed his arms with a devilish smile on his face, seeking pleasure off from poor Monday's suffering. "Oh fine, let's do that." claimed the messy hair as she stood up and grabbed Monday's wrist and took her off the sofa. "Sorry, but dormitory hazing tradition is a must~" ... Urgh, there it was again. Her imagination took over for a brief second and thought up some ludicrous situation...that might happen. Monday was still frightened, but she took the courage and snatched the rest of the deck off the table, spare the Moon arcana the unknown girl still had on her hand. However, before she could run back into her room, the boy posed an interesting question. "Uh, you three wouldn't happen to have had a weird dream involving a blue room last night, would you?" She knew that her ears heard right, but it was still hard to believe that there was someone else that shared the same dream. Upon closer inspection, she realized that the girl in front of her was in the same dream as well, in fact, stood beside her when their personas awakened! "Y-yes...The Velvet Room, right?" Monday answered in a shaky tone of voice. "And those dinner table." her voice began become stronger. "And-and Victoria, that maid girl!" Before she realized, Monday became overly excited and realized what an awkward position she put her self onto. Closing her mouth with her right palm and quietly sitting back down, she turned her face down to hide her blushing face. |

"Eeeek!" squealed Lily in fright as the daydreaming girl suddenly bolted to life like some possessed puppet and swiped up the tarot deck on the table, save the Moon card Lily had already drawn. "Don't scare me like that!" she shouted, only to realize this was early morning, and there was another girl in the lobby that looked to be still asleep. "... Oopsie." Having been shocked awake, Lily gained the foresight to button up the gaps in her uniform, get her shoe in order, and salvage her bun to the best of her ability until she could get back to her room and her hairbrush. Impressively, Lily performed all these tasks collectively in under 30 seconds. And then she realized there was a boy in the lobby... Well, that's awkward. Unsure whether to take the feminine route and act embarrassed or put up a strong front and play down her morning appearance as nothing, Lily ultimately stood there and did nothing, hoping that the issue wouldn't be brought up by anyone. Maybe she'd get lucky... or set of a social bomb before she really even said anything to anyone. ... Or maybe she should just stop thinking about it. She pretty much had to when the boy came over and mentioned the dining hall dream she had last night... "Wait, huh? How did you... Hold on, you too?" muttered Lily confusedly as the girl she thought to be possessed suddenly piped up too with bits of info that also matched what she dreamed. Well, kinda matched, since Lily had no idea the place had a name, nor that the waitress was called Victoria. "..." Information overload. Mind blown. Mental whammie. Whatever it was, Lily was pretty shocked by the concept of everyone here having the same dream she did. "Did..." said Lily suddenly to the others, only to trail off immediately into deep thought once more. "... Err... If you all met the waitress last night, did she... give you anything?" she finished, finally forcing the question out. The situation was so bizarre that she was having trouble finding the words to describe it. "Like... with the cards..." suggested Lily cautiously, lifting Monday's Moon card in example. |

Great. Wonderful. Just what Kyra needed. Another new arrival, and the two who were already there were a daydreaming lunatic and a screamer. The boy was asking about the blue room, that damned blue room that she herself was trying to push out of her head. Just when she had assumed it was just a dream and she simply didn't remember finally passing out, this boy comes down asking about the same thing. "Yes," she muttered, coldly. She didn't want to say anything about it, and fortunately, she didn't have to. The other girl, the daydreamer, filled in any specifics, including names she had never known. For that matter, how would this girl know them, if they all encountered the same thing? As for the screamer... "Will you shut up?" she asked. |

Looks like I picked quite the crew, Aaron noted to himself as he watched all of them react to his arrival. The normal girl seemed to be surprised at people simply approaching her, or something. The disheveled one took note of her appearance and promptly fixed it--making her much better looking incidentally, but that wasn't why Aaron was there--and the last girl didn't even appear pleased to be there and ordered one of the others to shut up. At least he'd gotten their attention. "Velvet Room? Is that what that place was called?" Aaron raised the Magician card he'd been holding. "I wasn't paying much attention until she showed me this card and a giant... thing... showed up. Good thing someone was listening." He took a moment to figure out how to continue, checking the card in the girl's hand. A moon? I should probably have a look at the rest of those cards, he thought. "If we all had that weird dream, it's probably safe to assume you all had that nighttime meeting too, right? I didn't really believe it until the dream." Aaron thought back to the meeting, wishing he'd memorized it better. "The thing that appeared in that Velvet Room, I think they called it a... Persona." He frowned. "And all that other stuff about Shadows and psyche, it all seemed like one big practical joke until last night. Now it's just..." Aaron looked down and trailed off, unable to continue. When he looked up again, he was smiling. "I'm probably in the minority on this, but I thought it was pretty cool." |

"So I'm not alone! So it wasn't my usual dreams!" Monday got back into her excited mood as she jumped up from the sofa, possibly startling the girl in front once more. She pointed her finger at the Moon card the other girl was holding and began to blurt things out. "I think mine was called Morpheus...S-she looked really strange, but she was so beautiful...And some voice! She actually talked to me!" Her face showed a dumbstruck smile, simply in awe by the sudden turn of event. As the boy began to call out unfamiliar terms, Monday stopped and turned towards him. "Oh, that's right. The orientation from when we entered the school." Monday began to recall all the small details she could make out from the bizarre orientation. The nonsense talk about the Psyche, Personas, Shadows, Spelunking, the girl just couldn't take it seriously and almost forgot about them. After their unnatural encounter of the Velvet Room, she now had to try her best to gather everything just in case. As she hopped towards the prince, the handsome blonde man hugged her back. His body was warm and smelled of roses... "Huwhahwa?" Monday unknowingly slipped into her daydream as she was trying to remember everything from the orientation. Minus the strange sound she produced, only a second passed, putting her in a much less awkward position than she feared she was in. "T-that's right. We're talking like this and we never introduced our selves. My name is Monday...B-but you can call me Monica!" It was her attempt to ditch her given name and go with something much more normal. In her last school, the name Monica didn't stick for more than a week. "So you guys came to the scho-" The prince's arms began to grip tighter around Monday's back, putting her closer into his chest. The scent of roses was stronger. She tried to enjoy this brief moment of fantasy as she closed her eyes, but a tight pressure pushed into Monday's body as the prince's arm gripper even stronger. "T-too tight!" She tried pushing her self away, but she was completely powerless. Her back started to bruise and she screamed for hel- "...ol..." In a blink of an eye, Monday faced her daydreams in a flash. However, this was something she never experienced before. Oh no...Not the nightmares. She panicked from inside, but tried to keep her cool on the outer apperance...tried, as she began to sweat uncontrollably in the cool dormitory lobby. |

Oh God, where to start... Since she was kinda... well, half-asleep during the orientation, Lily had managed to miss the fact that all the students in this school were given a crash course in the paranormal. Freaky Shadow monsters in their minds, Personas of the legendary and mythological borne from some weird waitress in a "Velvet Room", and... traveling into other students' minds to fight those Shadow things?! She was a high school cheerleader! Even if, by the Aaron's description, she had met her Persona in the dream last night, that didn't change that fact that this whole situation was totally fantastical. How should she even begin to approach all this...? Oh, right... "I'm really sorry." said Lily suddenly, turning straight towards Kyra and bowing ever so slightly as to not ride her skirt up. "I just... haven't really adjusted to all this yet." Okay, good start Lily. You apologized to the angry girl, so maybe she won't be the angry girl anymore. Now what... Well, the boy seemed to have a better grasp of this crazy magic dream stuff than she did, so the best option was to just listen and follow along. Her big green eyes followed Aaron's hand as he lifted his Magician card, which, considered with Monica's Moon card in her hand, along with her own Lovers card in her jacket's pocket, made Lily wonder why they mattered so much. She knew enough about tarot readings that the different cards had meanings to them, but her arcana was the Lovers? This boy's was the Magician? And she wasn't sure why, but Lily had a feeling Monica's was the Moon, judging by the single card she had drawn from the other girl's deck. Did the arcanas have something to do with their Personas...? God, this was so confusing... ... Or cool? ... Cool?! "I think this is all really crazy...!" moaned Lily in response to Aaron's last statement. "We're all high schoolers, yet suddenly we're thrown in with mind spirits and monsters and all sorts of scary stuff! I just wanted to cure my headaches and nightmares... I never would've guessed it'd come to this, though." she sighed as the frantic nerves from earlier turned into feelings of inevitability and defeat. "... Um, I'm sorry. This is just really hard to accept..." Great, now she had apologized twice in the last few minutes. She probably seemed like a nervous wreck to everyone right now... Well, okay, she kinda was at the moment, but that still wasn't an impression she wanted to give off. Maybe she should just change the subject... "I'm Lily. Lily Monteray. I'm 18 years old, though with this being my first year here, it feels like I'm a freshman again?" The irony of such a simple problem compared to the insane stuff they were talking about made her giggle a little, which helped, because Lily really needed something to laugh over right now. Having said her piece, Lily raised her hand to run her fingers through her wavy hair, only to realize she still had Monica's card. "Oh, I'm sorry... Monica?" Third apology. "I didn't mean to take your card... Hello?" Lily stuck her hand out to return the Moon card, but Monica seemed to have really gone out of it, to the point of breaking out into a cold sweat. "Uh oh... Um..." mumbled Lily, unsure of what to do. Having yet to fully absorb the thought of Psyche diving, Personas, and Shadows, it didn't really occur to her that what Monica was suffering from may have had supernatural roots. Instead, turning to ask Aaron and Kyra... "... Do you think she's having withdrawals?" |

The girl Kyra had asked to shut up apologized and...continued talking. Kyra could do little more than sigh and roll her eyes. The others, meanwhile, seemed to have remembered, and were now recollecting the dream of the abominable blue room in detail. Too much, disturbingly accurate detail. Kyra had wanted to think that it really was just a dream, or failing that just another weird hazing ritual the school had to try and make the orientation of the first night more credible. The orientation certainly needed that if Kyra was expected to believe it, but following it up by knocking people out and messing with their dreams? Was that really necessary? That was enough, right? Okay, guys, you have magical mind rays of science so you can screw with people's heads, but they were better when schools would teach their students to use them or build them or...something, rather than using them on the students for part of their elaborate hoax. No wonder Jung had such a dubious reputation. Anything to get away from home, huh, Kyra? And yet...they had somehow known about the threads... Correction. Victoria had known about the threads. For all Kyra knew, the waitress girl had just been a manifestation of her subconscious brought out by the mind ray's effects. Just like that...persona, that's what the others were saying. Ananke... Good joke, guys. Show the fate believer the goddess of fate and claim it's a part of her, because that just make all of her problems magically better. /Idiots/. And...damn that girl, was there no end to how much she could talk? Kyra had only barely been paying attention to the daydreamer, not wanting to give her too much credibility just by acknowledging her existence. But when the motormouthed screamer mentioned her, she couldn't help but glance over at the daydreamer, then back at the scrreamer. "Probably. Don't pay attention to her and maybe she'll go away," she said. |

The only normal girl was rapidly becoming the only oddity in the group, since the girl Lily probably didn't always act this way and the other one... maybe it wasn't a good time to be judging her. Aaron was somewhat concerned about this Monday girl. Monica. Whichever it was. She seemed to be blanking out periodically and acting overly nervous. Aaron noted this in the back of his head, not wanting to jump to any conclusions. "Heh, no problem," he laughed in response to Lily's apology. "I did say I was probably in the minority on that." She proceeded to talk to--and apologize to-- Monday again, so Aaron resumed observing her. He subconsciously pocketed his Magician card as he did. I wonder if her behavior might have something to do with all of this psyche business, he thought. Then again, I'm probably just looking for it now that I know it's possible. It could easily just be nerves or something similar. Despite Aaron's attempts to pass it off as nothing serious, Lily's question prompted him to consider it again. "Withdrawals...?" he repeated, not even sure if that was possible. The still nameless girl's uncaring comment irked Aaron a little, but he ignored it. "Uh, Monica?" he started cautiously. "Are you all right?" The direct approach would allow them to find out whether this was normal. If it's normal, it isn't a good normal, Aaron thought, frowning. "Maybe it wouldn't be a terrible idea to get help or something. Better safe than sorry, right?" he suggested openly. I have no idea what to do otherwise... Then again, if this is something caused by those Shadows, at least this will be an opportunity to find out more. Aaron felt a little guilty thinking that way. Hopefully it's nothing, he added on in his head, if only to satisfy himself. |

"I-I-I'm fine. Thanks." Monday nervously wiped off her forehead with her arm, leaving a moist streak of sweat on her green sleeve. "I-It's...Asthma. Yea, it's my asthma being worked up..." The poor girl couldn't even think up a good excuse after such shocking nightmare. Taking the Moon card from Lily and placing on top of her own deck, the poor girl's head slumped down and clutched onto the chair handle, trying to hide her shaking hand. It's fine, Monday...I've gone through this before... Monday's reason for entering the Jung Academy was to help her deal with her nightmares...Daydream nightmares...Day-mares. It was something she began to face about an year ago out of the blue. She began to fear her own imagination and became reclusive from everything around her. If it wasn't for her loving family's support, she probably would've turned for the worst and seek out help. However, the case she was facing was much more serious. "O-okay...I'm sorry for making you guys worry. It's fine, REALLY!" She lifted her head with a smile, still sweating a little. All three students in the room remained completely silent, with their head tilted down and shadows covering their eyes. They began to approach Monday step by step till they covered Monday from all three sides. "G-guys?" Without warning, the long haired girl and the boy grabbed Monday's arms and pushed it against the arm of the chair while Lily's thin fingers began wrapping around the neck. With a gentle push from Lily's thumb, Monday could already feel the air closed off from her lungs and began to struggle for her life. It was a futile resistance as she couldn't free her hands and her body screamed for a breath of air. Soon, Monday's eyes began to water as tears began tinkling down her cheeks as she accepted the inevita- *Blink* Monday's hand instinctively examined her neck, finding no bruise marks nor anything at all...Another nightmare. However, a drop of water fell on her hand and kept on going. She slid her hands up to her cheeks to found a trail of tears running down uncontrollably. "H-huh...I don't get it..." Monday let out a nervous laughter as she wiped the tears away and tried to put on a brave smile. Her eyes shut tight, trying to evade the confusing glare the other three might have on her. "I'm...I'm sorry guys, b-but I have to go back to my room. I must be tired from the trip up here." Pushing her self up the sofa as her legs trembled, Monday headed for the lobby exit as stumbled one by one. A neigh of a horse was heard from behind. Monday slowly turned around to find the white horse and the prince riding it, having the exact same appearance as the other students in the previous dream. She panicked, already knowing that it was a nightmare, and began to run towards the exit. The prince drew his sword and tapped his feet against the horse, prompting it to slowly gain speed and eventually gallop straight towards the girl. Monday ran as fast as she could, but she just couldn't over come the horse's speed. "Good night..." Prince took his sword and stabbed it straight through Monday's back and out her stomach. The blood and the pain was just too much for Monday, even if it just a dream. Her visions faded as she watched the prince ride away from her view... Her eyes suddenly turned blank and fell on her knees before she could take more than two steps away from her sofa. "I...it hurts." Her hands pressed against her belly where she was "stabbed" and fresh tears began rolling down. Before long, Monday's body slumped down to the ground, unconscious. ... "Is everything alright?!" a middle-aged man suddenly appeared in the lobby, short of breath as if he was in a rush to reach this place. "Oh god, she's already down!" Without hesitation, the unidentified man quickly reached Monday and held the unconscious body up. "Damnit..." He looked over at the corner of the lobby, which held a hidden camera, and shook his head to signal a no. "...Alright, you three." he turned towards Aaron, Lily, and Kyra with a serious look on his face. "I know this may be your first time, but I need you guys to "spelunk" into her mind...Er, Go in her mind." He pulled out his wallet from his jacket pocket and revealed a card with the Jung Academy emblem etched on the side. "I'm one of the security of this dormitory, I'm sorry, but you have to listen and follow everything I say." |

When Monday... Monica... whichever passed out, Aaron was all concern on the outside. On the inside, he was almost subconsciously taking note of the situation in the event that this kind of thing happened often. It was for the good of students there, he told himself. Before he could act on his outward concern, however, a man ran up to them, identified himself security and informed them that (in short) they had some Shadow busting to do. Or whatever it was technically called. Calling it spelunking sounds weird to me, Aaron thought. Aaron was fairly sure that Lily wouldn't be too enthusiastic about doing it, and the other conscious girl seemed a little apathetic, so maybe being forced to act was better. Regardless, there went his day. Or night. When was this happening again? That was something Aaron hadn't remembered from the meeting. Day, and I miss my classes. Night, and I lose out on sleep again. Hopefully it didn't happen every night, but he pushed that thought out of his head and replied to the man. "Uh, alright," he started. "Will she be okay until we're able to... uh, go?" Aaron asked the man, wondering if this would entail skipping classes. If it did happen at night, that was still a ways off. |

As it happened, the daydreamer didn't go away when Kyra tried to shut her out, but instead gradually became more and more crazy, slipping in and out of waking nightmares before her eyes until she collapsed. Contrasting the boy's reaction, Kyra showed no change of expression, instead displaying pure apathy toward the situation. The girl had shut up and was out of her hair. One down, two more to go. As for her well-being, she'd probably be fine in the morning. Kyra made a mental note to see at some point if the daydreamer was on some form of medication. This episode probably only happened because she'd neglected to take it today, or yesterday, or any number of recent days. So why was this guy who just ran in making such a big deal of it? And...wait, he wanted them to do what? You mean they were serious? And where did he get off just picking the three people who happened to be around for this? The way Kyra saw it, if someone really was going to jump into the mind of a crazy person, it should have been someone with some form of connection to said crazy person, someone that that person would recognize as trustworthy. She certainly knew if she were the one to collapse and have people beamed into her mind, assuming this wasn't just another piece of the school's elaborate prank to begin with, that the annoying screamer, daydreamer who almost certainly wasn't all there, and boy who asked too many questions would be the last people she wanted in there. She gave a disgusted look at this thought, then spoke up, searching for a feasible excuse to get out of this. "It looked like a normal psychotic episode to me. Doesn't she just have medication or something?" |

"... Eh? Eh? Eh...?!" gasped Lily, once to the security guard, once to the still unnamed boy, and once more to the still unnamed girl. "We're supposed to... go into... her... mind...?" She had meant to ask that with a sense of shock, but that quickly degraded into confusion as Lily had little grasp on the concept of Spelunking. She had accepted that it was possible by this point, but... actually doing it? Them? Her and... Wait... She still didn't even know the names of the other two! Gosh, how aloof can two people be? She had gone so far as to introduce herself after Monica did, but now she probably looked like a total dork for being the only other one to do so. She couldn't believe it... ... Wait, that wasn't even important compared to this. The security guy wanted them to pillage and plunder the demons in Monica's mind! Did he want them to be like... psychic vikings or something? Did that even make sense? Hell if Lily knew. This was all so bizarre to her. Maybe they should go... He made it sound like Monica was in real danger. None of them knew her very well, but Lily didn't think they could just leave anyone to turn into... err, what was it? A yeti? No, started with a D... Not a dog... Demon? That was it! Demon. "Monica will turn into a demon!" Lily suddenly blurted out, having haplessly let slip one of her racing thoughts. Oh great. Now she probably sounded like the righteous heroine. She wasn't the heroine! She was the scared sheep! "Um... Um... Er..." Quick Lily, backtrack, backtrack. "Ah! D-doesn't the school have a clinic to deal with this? We should take Monica there before it's too late! Or... Or... Oh! Or if there's no time, you should do that, uh... 'Spelunking' thing, Mr. Security Guard! Yeah! I bet you're really strong against those monster things!" Oh yes, desperate reasoning in the face of danger. Great camaraderie, Lily. She quickly glanced over to Unnamed Boy 1 and Unnamed Girl A, but realized on the spot that there was absolutely no consensus between the three of them. Unnamed Boy 1 just agreed right away, Unnamed Girl A thought Monica just needed some medication, and Lily was scared senseless and very confused. ... Good luck, Monica. |

The security guard looked over at Kyra and shook his head, "Unfortunately, this isn't a typical breakdown." He approached a door at the corner of the lobby that stated 'Emergency Only' and carefully laid Monday's limp body against the wall. "This is a very rare case, students who are accepted here don't get their psyche unbalanced so quickly. The more serious cases are sent directly..." Like a medical professional, he knelt down and quickly began to examine Monday's heart beat, her eyes, and others as he continued his explanation to Kyra. "...The simplest way I can explain it is this...Her psyche, the world of her mind, is being infested with shadows, you can think of them as...Oh right, you guys should know all this from the presentation." He was far too busy checking to see if Monday was alright, as his eyes was focused entirely on the girl "I'm sorry, but we won't make it in time." answering Lily's question. "If we want to help her, we have to go down here." The security guard pulled out the same card he showed others moment ago and waved it across the emergency exit. With a loud click, the door opened without activating the alarm, revealing a door to the outside, a stairway heading up, and another heading straight down... "...I know this may sound all too crazy, it seems like all of you guys are only freshmen." said the man as he picked Monday up on his back. "But your help is absolutely imperative." So the apathetic girl and Lily were being forced into it, while Aaron was perfectly fine with going to help Monday. Monica, Aaron corrected himself again. He supposed it was a good thing, since he wasn't too keen on fighting these Shadow things alone. And then I have to wonder how much help they'll be anyway. He looked at Lily and the other girl. Lily obviously didn't look made for battle, but the other girl looked like she'd be willing to stab someone given the right circumstances. That was good, as long as "someone" was a Shadow. "How bad can it be?" he said to Lily. "Besides, from what this guy's saying, we don't have much choice..." That wasn't a very good reason in Aaron's opinion, but it was the truth according to the man. If all the students are like us though, logic dictates that they could help too. But students picked at random in the hallway would have even less reason to help. Aaron thought about that. ...god help anyone who asks that apathetic girl for help at random. Aaron waited for a response from Lily or another urging from the guard, still unsure as to exactly how bad Monica's situation was. |

Unnamed Boy 1 was looking at her. Why was Unnamed Boy 1 looking at her? He was the one who wanted to jump right... Oh god. Oh god, no. No no no no no. Lily wanted to help Monica, but she couldn't possibly... This was about demons and monsters! She was a high school cheerleader! But Unnamed Boy 1 looked like he wanted her help... And Monica... And she wasn't sure what Unnamed Girl A wanted out of all this, but Lily's mind wasn't thinking that clearly at the moment. ... Argh! Why did this have to be so complicated?! There's no way she had what it took to do this. Yeah, that's it. She just needed to tell herself that a few times. There's no way I'll do it. There's no way I'll do it. There's no way I'll do it. There's no way I'll do it. There's no way "I'll do it." ............... ... Oh god, did that just slip out? It did. It really did. Rather than take it back, Lily's mind was just so shattered that her only option was to bury her face in her hands and wallow in self-pity. |

"What, you mean you were serious?" Kyra asked dully, still not believing it. She put a hand over her face, fingers spread to leave one eye exposed with which she looked between the security guard and the unconscious daydreamer. This was stupid. Though what was even more stupid was when the screamer agreed to it, out of the blue. From her reaction to what she said, it seemed the screamer was embarrassed or ashamed by that agreement. Good for. It was an incredibly stupid idea, and she should be ashamed of herself for going along with it. Nonetheless, as soon as that variable was out of the way, Kyra felt eyes on her. They probably expected her to go along with it as well. No, that wasn't quite it. They probably wouldn't accept her refusal. Well fine, then. "Gods damn it, fine," she grumbled. One time. One time, because it was an 'emergency', and then never again. |
