There was a hastily-made sign taped to the door of the co-ed common room on the first floor of the dorm building. It read, 'study group thursday 6-8 pm.' Morgan pushed open the door and poked his head in. Empty. The television in the corner buzzed on the 24-hour news channel, but otherwise, the common room was silent. He let out a little hmph, stepped inside, and shut the door behind him. A stack of textbooks was under his arm. For a school intended for fixing the mental problems of its students with giant Tarot monsters, they certainly didn't skimp on the regular curriculum. The demons filed in after him. Some followed him through the doorway, while some phased right through the wall. He was slowly getting used to there being only eight. Morgan sat in a chair that offered a view of the door and cracked the book on the top of the stack. Chemistry. He hoped somebody would show up so he wouldn't have to work through this bonding stuff alone. |

Simon idly passed by the common room, back from a bit of dinner, backpack slung lazily over one shoulder. Opening one eye, Simon quizzically raised an eyebrow at the... well he'd like to say people, but only Morgan was in. Oh why the hell not? Simon grumbled to himself, rolling his eyes as he casually knocked on, and pushed the door open. He was about to do some homework anyway. "Hey hey, this might be a good idea," Simon commented, dancing nonchalantly toward Morgan, extending one hand. "Name's Simon, nice ta meet'cha," the asian introduced himself, trying to break the ice. |

“Study group…” Catherine said softly, reading the sign on the door. She could use some more studying, expectedly after the lack of the night before, and having more people would be better than studying alone… and she hadn’t had those… knife urges so far… “…I should be ok… but just in case.” she said to herself, taking one of her pills from her bag and popping it into her mouth. Catherine opened the door, and looked in, spotting two males in the room. It seems like that was all the folks in there so far. “Hey boys, is it alright if I join you two?” Catherine asked, entering the room and moving to the side so others might beable to get in. |

"Oh." That was quick. Morgan closed the book on one finger to hold the page and rose from his seat. He shook Simon's hand, and was just about introduce himself when someone else entered. This time, it was a girl. "Yeah, that should be fine," he said by ways of answer. Then, belatedly, to both Simon and the girl, "I'm Morgan Halloway." Since his hand was already out, he turned it toward her for a shake. |

Stupid, stupid. Why had she gotten so lazy on studying? Her venture into Morgan's mind wasn't weighing on her at all...well, it sort of was. Of all things, Layla had found herself dwelling on that attack she was assuming she had had in that meat closet. And every night she was having dreams of that empty golden land again. Somewhere between spending most of her waking time trying to compensate for the fact that a minor attack meant she might have another big one soon and going to sleep early in hopes of seeing more of that strange dream world, she had still neglected to study since the night after. Now she had a test the next day, and she was completely and thoroughly unprepared. As she was running back to her room with those thoughts in mind, she passed by the common room. And immediately doubled back, to read the sign that she had completely glossed over the first time. "Study group, huh?" she said. How convenient. She ran back to her room, grabbed her stuff for the test, and made her way back to the common room in time to see another girl entering. She did so as well, scanning the grand total of three people who were already there. "Hey, uhh...oh! Morgan!" she said, addressing the one boy there who she recognized. |

Oh wow, more people just seem to notice the slightest things. And hey, it's Catherine! "Haha~ I think it's open to anyone, right Morgan?" Simon chuckled, shaking his schoolmate's hand, beckoning Catherine to join them with the wave of his other hand. "And it looks like you have a friend to join you! Studying is much more fun with people you know! Ahaha!" the asian proclaimed, laughing brightly as he waved to Layla. "Oh man, we're going to probably have to do introductions all night! What a disaster!" Simon exclaimed jokingly, making a mock horrified face. |

Oh, it’s Simon… Catherine thought, paying more attention to the two boys. She definitely recognized Simon now, and that other boy looked rather tidy, expect around the waist it seems thanks to part of his shirt not being tucked in. He seems like someone who might be on the smarter side. Simon on the other hand… maybe she should just ignore her original impression of the man… And hope he doesn’t say anything about that psyche trip… And then someone else entered the room, and caught Catherine’s attention. Well hello there Catherine though, quickly mentally scanning the new girl. She certainly liked the figure the girl had going for her, and maybe she would like her personality as well. “Hello I’m Catherine, and it’s nice to meet you two.” Catherine said, extending a handshake to Layla and then moving over to Morgan to shake his hand. “By the way, what will be the first subject on the agenda?” She asked the group. |

"Hey. Layla." He greeted her with a wave and a little smile. She's a friend. I have friends. "Oh. Uh. Is it all right if we start with chemistry?" Morgan held up the book in his hands so they could see the cover. "The bonding stuff, more specifically. I can't get the numbers to work." He let the book drop open to the page his finger was holding. Suddenly surrounded by people, Morgan somehow felt more at ease. Before, being in a busy room would have put him on edge. Now, knowing that they were like him, with their own problems and the power to fix those that plagued others, he felt...safe. Secure. Protected from the shadows that lounged about the common room. With the help of these people, Morgan would be able to win against the demons. |

"Hi, I'm Layla," Layla said cheerfully, accepting Catherine's handshake. Briefly, she wondered if the girl was studying her, but the feeling quickly passed before it could so much as make her uncomfortable. She then returned Simon's and Morgan's waves and moved to sit near the latter. "Nope, don't mind at all," she said to the suggestion of starting with Chemistry. Sure, it wasn't really getting tone what she needed to, but they had plenty of time and could get to her own problems afterward. Besides, she was good at chemistry. Nothing like a subject she was confident in to get them started. |

"Hmhm, I'm not so good at Chemistry, but I'm pretty good at math, so if it's numbers you need I'm your man," Simon boasted, grinning confidently. "Layla is it? I'm Simon, nice to meet you," the asian introduced himself as Layla moved to sit next to Morgan. "So, let's start, shall we?" |

Ted walked through the dorm, his mind wandering, when he spotted someone he thought looked like Simon. Simon walked into the room, followed by a few others, one whom looked like Catharine. Ted headed for the door, and looked at it, noticing the sign taped to it. Shrugging his shoulders, Ted figured he might as well brush up on his studies; it wasn't like he had anything better to do at the moment. "What are we looking over and do you have room for one more?" Ted asked as he walked into the room. |

“Chemistry...” Catherine said, looking at the book. “Been a while... If I look at the book I'm sure I might be able to help.” She said, moving around the table to the side of Morgan where Layla was sitting. “The bonding is just sharing of electrons or something right?” She asked, leaning on the back of Layla's chair and looking over the girl's shoulder, her arms crossed and placed on the chair's top. From here she can look at the book, and get a nice view... And then someone new started to speak, someone who looked familiar. “Oh hey, Ted, right?” Catherine asked the newcomer, looking right towards him. What where the odds? she asked herself mentally, wondering what kind of odds it was for them to meet up just, randomly like this. “We are doing Chemistry right now, and I don't mind if we have one more. How about you three?” She asked, looking at the three. |

"Yeah, sure," Morgan said, looking up from his book again. "Ted? Hi. I'm Morgan. Come sit down." He brought his eyes back down to the page, trying to make sense of what he saw there. There were a bunch of diagrams about circles within circles within circles with dots all over them. The sidebar called them Lewis-dot diagrams. Under the pictures, there were captions explaining why the dots - symbolic electrons - jumped from one atom to another. Further below were a series of letters and numbers called condensed formulae, and they seemed to be expressing the same thing, but it was all Greek to him. In the end, he shook his head. "I know we just covered all this today, but during class I was...zoned out. Daydreaming, even." It hadn't quite been that; it was more like...remembering. Remembering things that had once been forgotten. For him, the lost memories were like finding a dearly loved but long-forgotten brand of jellybean in a candy store and being able to explore all the flavours. That store might stop stocking them tomorrow, and they would be gone again. He shook off that train of thought. "I know we talked about bonding, right? Could you give me a runthrough on the chapter?" "Hello," Layla said cheerfully, waving to the newcomer who was apparently named Ted. She gestured for him to join them and have a seat, then opened her own book, finding the same chapter that Morgan had mentioned. Her own class hadn't actually gotten that far yet thanks to getting a few days behind, but most of it looked intuitive enough. "Daydreaming?" she asked, wondering if Morgan was already having trouble again or if it really was just ordinary, run of the mill daydreaming. Well, if he was having trouble, Layla was sure that Morgan would tell her. "Well, bonding's just what Catherine said, sharing of electrons between two atoms. Although that's really only what happens with nonmetals. Between a metal and a nonmetal, the metal essentially gives its electrons to the nonmetal. And between metals..." She flipped through the book to find a section on metallic bonds, which looked like a complete mess. Was that really the best the textbook authors could do? "...eugh, I don't even know." She continued on to explain what else she knew and could tell from little more than a precursory look through the chapter. Someone else would have to fill in the holes. Every now and then as she talked, she got the feeling that someone was looking at her in ways that they probably shouldn't, but she ignored it. Probably just imagining things. |

"Daydreaming huh? The teacher is kind of boring," Simon mused as Morgan explained his spaciness. Simon figured it might be something else, but he wasn't going to bother asking about the details. Anyway it was study time. "Yo Ted! Long time no see! Or maybe not! Aha!" Simon waved to the newcomer as Layla started helping Morgan with the bonding stuff right away. It seemed like she had a bit of trouble too, in explaining at any rate. Simon glanced over the desk to see what he could possibly help with and decided reading upside-down wasn't really his forte. Simon quickly jumped over the table with little effort, probably accidentally disturbing the session's line of concentration as he tried to get a closer look at the book. "Well I guess I could help with the general bonding stuff, unless you've got that covered, Layla?" Simon suggested, furrowing his brow at metallic bonding. "I don't actually think we covered this yet actually, hrm." |

Max strode down the hallway, a half finished sandwich halfway to his mouth. He was adjusting well enough to the school, especially to the fact that he had been given access to the kitchens. As he finished the fruits of his last foray into the school's provisions, he passed by the room the others occupied. I wonder what they're studying... he mused, halting in front of the door. While he had adjusted well enough to the other aspects of the school, coming in after the start of the semester had kind of put him in a perpetual state of catch up. Maybe joining a study group would help him make some progress through the quagmire of coursework he found himself in. He thought for a moment more, adjusted his bag on his shoulder, then knocked on the door frame. "Hello?" he piped, poking his head through the doorway. "Would it be alright if I joined you guys?" He took a look around the room as he asked, taking in the faces of those already studying. He had met several people already, but he couldn't recognize anyone in the room before him. It was possible that they had seen him in class or passing, however. It's not like I'm hard to miss... he sighed inwardly. "I'm Max, by the way." |

When Layla brought out her own book, Catherine's gaze went from Morgan's copy to hers. This way, she wouldn't have to turn her head to look at the book. Of course, this had the side effect of a better view of Layla's endowments... And while Catherine's glance shifted from the book to Layla's every now and then, Catherine did try to keep it from happening too often. “All the bonding stuff should have the same goal anyway right? Just making the outer ring either full of electrons or void of them?” Catherine asked, before reaching towards the book and flipping the pages to whatever practice problems the book had for the chapter, after getting Layla’s permission. Once she got to the page, she placed her finger under one of the easier problems. “Also, couldn’t we just help Morgan solve these problems? Wouldn’t that help him learn the material faster?” She was asking, before suddenly retracting her arm back when Simon decided to jump the table. Unfortunately/fortunately for Layla, Catherine didn’t retract it towards her shoulders, but towards where her heart would be… which meant her hand was now right grasping Layla’s breast... “Wow Simon, if you wanted to look at the book better, you could have asked for it instead of jumping over the table…” Catherine said with surprise in her voice, before realizing what she was grabbing. “Oh, sorry Layla.” She said letting go and moving her hand away from the Indian girl. “Anyway, what if you had landed on one of the books?” She asked, monition at all of the what, two textbooks, that were on the table. And then someone addressed the folks in the room. Well, it looks like a big boy showed up. Catherine thought, looking at Max while he peeked into the room. She couldn't see all of him, but she could tell he had some size on him. “Eh, as long as the rest of the group doesn't mind, I don't mind at all Max.” She told Max. “By the way, I’m Catherine.” |

Morgan jerked back in time to avoid losing his fingers under Simon's feet. "Hey," he said, feeling a spike of rather unfamiliar anger. Simon stomped all over the books and papers on the table. He gave them a checking-over as Simon settled down in a chair like normal people were supposed to, but discovered that - aside from one shoe-print on a blank page - none of them had come to any harm. Forget about it. He's probably just one of those people who doesn't pay attention to what's around him. They're more common than not. "Yeah, Catherine, I suppose we could --" He half-turned toward her, and found her grabbing hold of Layla's...well. He felt the heat shoot to his ears as he quickly glued his eyes back to his book. Wow. Uh. She's...probably just one of those people who doesn't pay attention to what's around her. Yeah. Definitely more common than not. The entrance of someone new helped pull his attention away from the spectacle. The newcomer was...well. Aside from the obvious, Morgan recognized Max's subdued edge of nervousness in the face of this new situation. It was something that he had come to know quite well. "Definitely." Morgan put down his book and stood to shake Max's hand over the table Simon had maligned. By the time he was on his feet, he figured out that he was doing so in order to further pull the room's attention off Catherine's chest-grab episode. "I'm Morgan Halloway. You're new, aren't you? I don't think I've seen you before." Edited by Howitzer, Sep 29 2011, 06:12 PM.

Layla gave a small laugh as Simon jumped over the table just to sit down with him. It seemed that the others, Morgan especially, had a problem with it, but as long as he didn't break anything... But it had the side effect of Catherine pulling back her arm in just the perfect way to grope her in reaction. "H-hey!" she said, jerking away, just enough so that Catherine's hand was no longer on her. She apologized fairly quickly, but sheesh. Talk about careless. Layla felt her face flush, even though it was just an accident. Yes, it had to have been an accident. She was sure of it. But then a convenient distraction came, in the form of a...rather noticeable newcomer. She waved to him, saying "Hi, I'm Layla. Go ahead and join us," then turning back to the group. "Anyway, yes! Problems! Let's work them," she said awkwardly, flipping over to a page full of exercises. Distractions were good now, yes. |

"It was faster for me this way," Simon remarked, replying to Catherine while she "accidentally" boobgrabbed Layla. Warning signs from her Shadow battle rang in his head, before she quickly retracted her hand. "And if I was bad enough that I would land on one of them I would've just walked around." Luckily Max came in as an ample distraction for... all of them. "Yo, Simon here. We're helping Morgan out on Chemistry. Care to join us on working out problems?" Simon grinned, introducing himself to the new arrival with a friendly wave. "Alright Layla let's see what we can solve, eh?" |
