The Breaking of Tristan/Rene; Cool thread i did with Honor who RP's at BP

((As you will see, Honor is much better at RP than me, but we had a lot of fun writing this together. The first post is Honor's and they alternate after that.))

Rene stood. It was time to move. She felt Tristan protest and reached up to twirl that familiar lock of hair.

Why are doing that? That's MY quirk!

It is comforting, is it not?

... shut up.

The playful banter brought the quickest of soft smiles. It dropped as nervousness transfered between parasite and host.

Pray to your God that this goes well. We can cause major damage here Tristan.

YOU can cause damage. I may like you, but I don't have to like what you do. I still think you should have gone after the Free Jaffa and worked from their.

Would that make me any different than Am-heh?

No, no I guess not.

Rene was already moving. White hair reflected the bright desert sunlight brilliantly. The woman was not on stealth mode - the unnaturally white locks would have otherwise been hidden. She angled towards a rock formation, slipping into it's shadows to make that transition to stealth.

Rene, this doesn't feel right. You can still call this off. I don't like it.

I cannot. We are too involved now. We must act. The academies must go, one by one.

Tristan fell silent once more as Rene moved back out into the sunlight, hair hidden and outfit changed. The long sandy-colored robe was meant to camouflage her to the landscape. Her now-greatly-tanned skin aided in blending into the shadows as she skimmed the rocks.

Eyes watched as Tristan moved into the shadows.
"She is not committed." One set of eyes said to another. "You can see her internal struggle. Probably a Tok'ra. They should have been exterminated long ago." The eyes moved in closer. "Blending never ends well, one must be dominant, and we are the superior race, so we must be in control."

Tristan moved out stealthily, unaware that she was being watched.
"Now, my apprentice, i will let you kill this one for practice. It should not be difficult. Move in for the kill when you so desire."

They glided along behind Tristan, invisible except for the slight imprint they left in the sand...

Rene... stop.

I know, I feel it. You are well trained, Tristan.

You know what I've been through.

Silence. They're close.

Tristan obeyed out of respect and experience, retreating further into her conscious to allow Rene to work. Suddenly Rene ducked. Something unseen whizzed past the Gou'ald's head. She followed it's path and came up with a sharp jab of her hidden knife into a cloaked being.

Tristan felt the adrenaline spike from where she spectated, feeding moves to her mate without thinking about it. It was exhilarating. Rene straightened as the dead foe flickered into site.

Rene, anoth-

Tris couldn't finish the warning of a second presence. Rene was already moving. She dropped low, swinging a strong kick close to the ground where a second set of footprints stopped. There was no connect. Only darkness as something struck the back of her head and neck, knocking both symbiote and host unconscious.

The Ashrak stood over Tristan, both surprised at this strange person's ability to kill his student, as well as being disgusted at his student's failure. He kicked his student, and the dead corpse rolled down the edge of the sand dune. "You" he yelled at another apprentice "Pick up this intruder, she may prove an interesting subject to study." "What about our dead brother?" "Leave him. He deserves only to rot in the desert for his failure."

They walked slowly back to their nearby training academy. Upon entering the academy's sandstone entry way, the master signaled to an apprentice. "Let Lady Serket know we have a prisoner which may amuse her." The apprentice ran off quickly to inform the goddess. The master continued, the other apprentice still dragging Tristan's body. They walked into a building, and down a flight of stairs to a dungeon. "Throw her in there until Lady Serket decides what to do with her"

Then they all left, and Tristan was in complete darkness.

An hour later, a very groggy duet began to surface.

"Rene?"

The fact that Tristan was hearing her own voice spiked panic through her. But she could feel the added presence and began to relax as she felt Rene stir within her.

My turn. You rest.

Yes.

This time Tristan stayed dominant. Prisons, captivity - she was used to it all. Memories began to play through her mind and she recognized Rene's probing through Tristan's past. She stayed still and quiet to the best of her abilities as her symbiote forced those images to surface. This vantage point, inside the dark cell, was not a new concept for the former Air Force Captain.

Then the scenes changed. Memories from Rene's past interlocked with Tristan's. Together they pulled strength from their experiences.

Tristan's thoughts turned elsewhere as she began to pray. Rene knew this drill, knew the beliefs this woman held, and knew that the Person she served was no Gou'ald. In that sense Rene let her be. What this woman believed in not only gave her unnatural mental strength, but it also gave her a purpose none of Rene's other hosts had. And in all the searching of all the scientist's mind, and all the wisdom she had in the workings of the universe, nothing contradicted anything Rene herself had experienced.

Quite odd.

In this fashion, with this continued bonding, host and symbiote waited patiently for a chance at freedom.

Anything that came through that door was fair game for a pounding, as Tristan liked to put it. And from what Rene had witnessed through Tristan's memory, she had no doubts.

Lady Serket walked majestically towards the door that lead to the dungeon. She was tall, and fair skinned, with blond hair and blue eyes. But inside, she was venomous and ruthless. She longed to torture this new prisoner, see how long it would take for her to break before the might of Serket.
Serket nodded to the Jaffa at the door, who opened it. Serket walked to the door, and down the flight of stairs, taking in the sight of Tristan, sitting exhausted in the corner, dirty, looking pathetic in the corner. This one wont last out the day Serket thought to herself as she moved forwards. But then again, maybe not, there was something special about this one.

"What do we have here? A pathetic Tok'ra, captured, waiting for a glorious death? Well, there are no glorious deaths on this planet, except for those who worship the god of Khet, Serket, Lady of poison and secrecy."

Tristan stood the moment she felt the signaling ice rush through her veins.

Take great care. I have not dealt with this one before.

Rest. I've got this.

She moved daringly close to her captor.

"Lady? I see no lady before me-"

Rene pushed against Tris hard without taking control.

What are you doing?! Do not incite her!

You got us into this mess, Rene. I'm just gonna spread it around a bit before I make you clean it up.

"Poison and secrecy hm? I have secrets too-" Using the destraction of words, Tristan made her move. She took one long step to the left around the Gou'ald and slipped her hand up under Serket's right arm, completing the hold with her other hand on Serket's head and neck. She now stood behind Serket, back to the stairs, right arm under Serket's armpit and across her chest to grab the material on her left shoulder, left arm locked tight to the back of Serket's neck, elbow out for protection.

To throw Serket off balance and to create a shield, Tristan twisted hard to her left as she used her knee to nail the back of Serket's knees - an attempt to make them buckle as she turned herself and Serket to face the stairs. The whole action took a fraction of a second.

Whatever you're gonna do, do it fast.

Rene waisted no time taking the lead. Eyes flashed bright gold as symbiote and host switched places. The older one rested her chin on Serket's shoulder to whisper in her ear, finishing what Tristan started.

"-I am no Tok'ra."

Serket did not resist, as Tristan took her prisoner. In fact she laughed out loud.

"I am no Tok'ra" the symbiote said.

"So I see, few Tok'ra would be so difficult a prisoner." Amusment in her voice.

This would prove to be a wonderful prisoner to break. Perhaps it was a minor Goa'uld seeking power, but that did not make sense either, because the host surfaced sometimes. Serket moved her hand towards Tristan's side.

"So, why have you come here, my little Tok'ra" Serket asked, trying to keep the prisoner occupied.

The hand was just millimeters away from Tristan now, and with a quick movement, a small blade came out of Serket's sleeve, and pricked Tristan.

"Did I mention, I am the goddess of poison?" Serket said deviously, as Tristan's senses left her, and she dropped to the floor. "Chain her, she will only sleep for a few moments. This will prove more difficult than I thought, she has spirit."

The Jaffa picked Tristan up, and put her hands in the shackles attached to the wall. Tristan woke up, and Serket said to her, "Now, Tok'ra, you will tell me why you are here! I have more poisons than that which will loosen your tongue!"

Rene had every intention of breaking the Gou'ald's neck. But Serket had been just as fast and deceptive. Before she could make that fatal twist, a sharp yet tiny stab to her side surprised her - that hand had been hidden from view by the way positioning of the two women. The words spoken after went almost unintelligible to Rene as everything faded quickly.

When she awoke, it became apparent her arms had gained a decent amount of weight. Blurry brown eyes opened to reveal the shackles on her wrist - loose enough to slide and jingle but tight enough to prevent her from slipping out. She was on her knees now, the chains holding her hands right about shoulder level. She could stand, she could move a foot or so in any direction from the wall, but that was the extent of her freedom.

Immediately Rene stood, swaying unsteadily as senses re-awoke. The chains were fastened to the wall by her ears, which allowed her arms to dangle loosely by her side. She did not have to test the restraints to know that she couldn't fully extend her arms even with her back pressed to the wall.

The question asked had the same garbled sound. It took a full ten seconds for her to translate the question. About that time Rene felt Tristan come to, but she shoved her down.

This one is dangerous. I will deal with her as long as I can.

Tristan remained silent in pained acceptance. She hated when her symbiote when protective on her. Instead she watched as a third party, looking for anything that Rene may need or miss for a clean and effective getaway.

"I... am not... Tok'ra." Rene was having a hard time forming the words, but the effect of the poison did not last beyond that sentence. "Release me and you will understand the difference."

Small quirky smile in spite of her circumstances. Tristan was starting to rub off on the snake she shared a body with.

"Release me and you will understand the difference."

Serket had never seen anything like this. The prisoner was certainly not Goa'uld, and did not seem to be Tok'ra either. This was indeed a very unique individual. A plan began to come together in Serket's head, but she would need more information on both host and symbiote before she could proceed.

"What is your name?" Serket asked the prisoner.

Silence.

"Very well, I will just have to call you Tok'ra until you tell me. What is your mission here?"

More silence.

"I had hoped you would be cooperative, but it seems we must do this the hard way."

Serket walked closer, but this time, the Jaffa had his staff trained on Tristan. Serket's hand slowly raised itself, and the hand device turned on, a bright beam leaping from palm to forehead.

"You will tell me what I want to know, Tok'ra!" Serket's eyes glowed.

Rene slowly crumpled, staying standing as long as physically possible. But as her body began to revolt against the device, she found this feat nearing impossibility.

Still she said nothing. Liquid fire flowed from her forehead down like water, making every muscle tense and taking her breath away completely. She felt Tristan pull away immediately. As her knees met the ground harshly once more, hands clenched at her head, she made the smallest motion to swing at the assailant.

She got no further than a twitch. Inwardly Tristan cried out - the echoed thought forcing Rene's hand in protection of her host.

"Re-Rene."

In reality she had nothing to hide - either this woman would die before she could ruin Rene's work, or Rene would die at her hand. Either way, details such as names began to pale in importance.

But only that detail. Beyond her own name, Rene was prepared to accept the full force of the device now controlling her.

Serket laughed at the feeble attempts of the prisoner to fight back. After a little while, the prisoner barely got out "Re-Rene". Serket lowered the hand device, allowing the Rene to recover a little bit. "Very good. You see Rene, if you tell me what I want to know, I will reward you, if you do not tell me, you will suffer."

Serket looked at the prisoner, thinking that this one will be useful.

"Now, what are you, Rene? You certainly are not Goa'uld, but you claim you are not Tok'ra. And before you answer, consider this: I control the water on this planet, and you surely must be getting a little thirsty"

Rene collapsed the moment release came. She panted against the suggestion of water, but refused to succumb.

I... I can answer this one.

Even through pain Tristan's thoughts were solid. Rene admired this and wordlessly stepped back to allow Tristan control.

"Me? I am human. Tauri in your tongue."

Tristan tried to pull herself to her feet. She failed the first attempt, but with the leverage of pulling on the chains, she found an unsteady footing. Her whole body shook and her stomach threatened to rebel. Rene was already at work though. Tris could feel her strength start to return.

She fell silent, chocolate eyes simply watching Serket.

Serket was not amused by the insolent answer she received from the prisoner. "Very well, we can do this the difficult way. I am a patient goddess, and will wait for you to see the error of your way."

Serkhet nodded at the Jaffa at the door, who began to close it. "Perhaps a day here in this hot, dark dungeon will teach you to respect your god!"

Serket left the room, leaving Rene and Tristan alone. And Serket did not return until the next day...

"I SERVE my God already!" Tristan yelled after the retreating figure. She remained still as the door shut and she was cast into utter darkness.

What do you plan to do, Tristan?

I have no plans. Haven't you figured that out already?

I do not like this.

Oh, so NOW you agree with me?! Rene that's bordering... I don't know what it's bordering but it's not fair.

Did I ever say you were wrong?

.... Darn you.

Most of the night was spent in similar conversation. Finally Rene coaxed Tristan to relax enough to rest- not sleep, but rest so regeneration for the next day could be fully completed. The host did her own thing as she fell silent, praying and resting in words committed to memory - words that held so much more than a promise, words that had been both given to her and manifested in her life in the darkest and brightest times. Rene simply observed from a distance as she worked her healing magic. She was no closer to understanding this relationship Tristan had with an Invisible One, but if it made her counterpart happy, she would not question or prod. Tristan responded to such care by allowing Rene to do her own work as long as she wasn't forced to surface throughout it's course.

The heat was stifling. Thirst began to work it's way in but again, this was something Tristan could relate to from times in her past. She had survived weeks with almost no water one time. She would do it again.

Her blood froze and Tristan stood, still the dominant personality. The door opened and she moved to the end of her chains, hands loose by her side.

"I see you have survived the night" Serket said to Rene as she entered the room. "Maybe you are ready to talk now?"

Serket moved closer, making sure that she stayed well outside of the prisoner's reach. "I will ask you again, who or what are you, and what is your purpose?" Serket glared at the prisoner.

"You will tell me eventually, so it may as well be now, save you all the trouble and pain that will come. I am a goddess, and you cannot resist the will of a god!"

Serket thought to herself "It is amazing that this one has lasted so long... this is a much stronger host than it seems, or maybe there is more here than I can see. I must break this one. But I must find out more about the symbiote first. The symbiote is the key..."

The corners of Tristan's lips twitched slightly as she noticed her captor staying well out of reach. Well, she's smart, I'll give her that. She opened her mouth to speak and was immediately shoved to the submissive personality. Tristan blinked just in time to hide the bright glow of her eyes.

RENE! What are you doing?!

She has not asked about you yet. I will not let you jeopardize yourself needlessly. Do not worry, I will allow you the chance at your... fun. It just is not time yet.

Rene straightened to her full six foot.

"I serve no one. My work is of my own doing and knowledge." Chin lowered and eyes narrowed dangerously. "My purpose, however, is no secret. There is an over-abundance of snakes. I aim to remedy this... unfortunate circumstance."

Wow you really do listen when I talk don't you?

Your ways are going to get us killed.

Maybe but at least now we both can tweak tails in the process. Isn't this fun, Rene?

Your idea of fun is-

Serket's next move stopped the inner-discussion in it's tracks.

"There is an over-abundance of snakes. I aim to remedy this... unfortunate circumstance."

Serket's eyes flashed, furious at this pathetic creature threatening her! She flicked her wrist, bringing the knife out again, but this time she did not go easy on Rene. She plunged her knife into Rene's stomach, twisting it sharply to cause as much pain as possible.

"You insolent pathetic creature!" Serket yelled at the prisoner. "You dare insult the gods? We shall see how you enjoy it when the gods turn their backs on you!"

Whirling around, Serket stormed out of the room, leaving Tristan and Rene bleeding in the dirty, dark cell.

For the next week, they saw no light, and their only contact with life was a small cup of dirty water that was slipped into the cell as they slept every other day...

((Since you didn't say, gonna assume the knife was not coated in poison this time))

Rene felt the fire before she realized what had just transpired. As Serket whirled away the knife was ripped out unceremoniously. Blood coated Rene's mouth and forced a cough that enhanced the pain further and hindered any cry that had been on her tongue. Her captor would not be getting the pleasure of a scream so soon.

She dropped to her knees, realizing too late that doing so kept her hands out of reach of the wound. The Gou'ald did not have the strength to stand again - not yet. Tristan writhed within her, fighting both the bodily injury as well as the memory of her first encounter with snakes and the ensuing fear of knives she had had to break herself of.

That was a fear long past and it would not resurface now. But the memory itself was enough to make Tristan gasp out a sob as she pushed Rene to the background. The symbiote knew the meaning of the motion and immediately set to work.

Tristan, on the other hand, could not bear the damage done. Forced unconsciousness proved to be a most welcome release, allowing Rene to work quietly in the background. Though Tristan was pain free for the moment, dangling forward against the chains, Rene fought the agony of the stab as she worked to heal it.

---

There was a soft grunt, a lick of parched lips. Chocolate eyes forced themselves open. Their owner could no loner tell the difference between eyes open and shut - so thorough was the darkness that surrounded her.

Tristan tried hard to wet her pallet as she began to fully come to. The suffocating, thick air burned with each breath. It was then that she realized there was a cup just barely out of reach to her left - courtesy of Rene's memory. The shortest movement of chained arms proved that she wouldn't be able to reach. Carefully Tristan swept a foot out to where Rene remembered the cup being left. She made light contact, thankfully not tipping it over. With that foot she scooted it closer.

The jar was tall and skinny, with a straw for her convenience. But a deep sip caused her to sputter on the nasty hot water it held - another more careful sip proved to be the end of the reserves. Tristan's stomach revolted against the vile liquid but she kept it down.

She felt Rene's presence but respected the quietness. Time was lost on the duet as they sat painfully, covered in dry blood grim, and sweat. The times between drinks were longer than the proffered water could cover and thirst became a major issue.

Tristan... I cannot fix everything. We need water or we won't survive.

At this rate, I'm willing to take that route. The God I serve means more to me than ditching Him for survival. I will not bow.

Nor will I. It is just... this may not last too much longer.

I'm ready for that. I've been ready for that. I'm amazed I've lasted this long. I should have died with Micah.

That was well over a decade ago, was it not?

Exactly.

They kept company as the hours lengthened. Neither host nor symbiote could tell the passing of time, so they simply waited.

As the door opened for the first time in ages, Tristan's first observation was that her hair no longer reflected the light as it once had. Rene immediately pushed forward gently. Tristan became the passive one submissively.

You could use a shower, Rene - you smell.

Thank you for that observation.

Tristan was trying to ease Rene's spirit as she felt a subtle change in her partner. It seemed to work as Rene stood tall once more.

I'm here, love. I'm here. Any time you need me.

The single, barely perceptible nod was all Tris needed in affirmation.

Serket stormed out of the room. "I want a constant surveillance on her." The Jaffa nodded, and walked away, making preparations for watching the prisoner. A few hours later, they had set up a room that monitered everything that went on in the cell. Serket walked in, and watched as Rene sat there, her arms above her head, not moving. "Is she alive?" Serket asked. The Jaffa nodded and said "Yes". "Continue to moniter her, let me know if anything changes about her condition" And Serket walked away.

Over the weeks, they watched as Rene slowly got weaker.

Serket nodded to the guard, who opened the door. Serket walked in, and was surprised to see the the prisoner had raised herself up to a standing position.

"How are you feeling?" Serket asked. Rene tried to respond, but her throat was too dry. Serket nodded to the guard, who brought cool, clean water to Rene. "I do not want to harm you, Rene, but I must discipline you if you are to learn the ways of your goddess. Now, what is your name, and the name of your host, where are you from, and who sent you?"
