-the system was peacefull for months, and then just as suddenly, it was not. a hyperspace vortex on the edge of the system opened, and through it, a juggernaught of wraith ships emerged. Even on first glance, the ships and their formation seemed different, strategic, aggressive. The black hulled hive glittered like a chittinous jewel in the dim light of space, it's escort crusiers like shining daggers spearheading toward the binary planet body.- -their exit was a good half a lightyear out, and they didn't approach the planet directly. The moment their scans picked up energy spikes that didn't belong, the fleet changed direction. The lead crusier veered, pitching to the side and down, while the black behemoth settled. The rear two crusiers soared past, accelerating and heading off in an opposite angle than the initial crusier did.- -the first crusier was joined by a second, making two heading one direction, two headed another, leaving the hive and three behind, squatting in the empty spance of space just within ha'tak sensor range and coming no closer. The other crusiers circled back out of range, and came about, facing inward on the peripheral of the sensor range, their departure tragectory suggesting they'd left the system in search of other planets- -the three crusiers around the hive settled into a spiral defence position, prepping dart bays on hive and the crusiers. Obsidian sat in her throne room, multiple tubes running from the walls along the floor and cieling to encircle and pierce sections of her body. Pulses moved along the tubes in rythmic beats, and her head faintly rolled from side to side- -at the helm of the control bridge, the Warden stood languidly, but poised, his masked face turning this way and that to review mist screen readouts, and relay them to the outlaying crusier commanders. His hand rest on the console itself, being fed information from the ship, and he lightly stroked it, like he'd seen Obsidian do countless times- "Worry not ... you will get your share... " |

Surface of Vitazstvo - Dismantled Ha'tak pel'tak -Perun started at the sound of warning alarms, frowning as he moved to the console to review what had set the system sensors off. His heart started thumping in his chest as the system showed him the readout; a full massive blob rested just on the periperal of the ha'tak sensor range, with three smaller shapes moving around it, but even the small shapes were large enough to dwarf a standard ha'tak vessel- "Wraith..." -the hushed whisper left his lips, and he spun around darting for the door and calling for jaffa- "Assemble the ships! Get everyone in their fighters, now!" -his goa'uld voice bellowing accross the courtyard. Jaffa scrambled for the glider bay and the two alkesh. Looking at the skeletal remains of his ship he felt his stomach churn; there was no chance they could fend off a full assault- -turning back around he ran back to the pel'tak, bringing what weapon sysems hadn't been dismantled back online, attempting to get some of the shield working. If he couldn't fight, then at least he'd defend as best he could. Opening secure channels to the ships he barked orders- "Get those ships in the air! Form a defencive screen around the city... " -as he turned the comn off, he uttered under his breath- "maybe they're not hungry... " -flipping dials and changing controls, he turned on the main external speaker- "This is your god... hear me... you must come to the temple immidiately ... I will be able to protect you within the range of my reach but you must come to me to be saved..." -hoping at least to save some of his workforce, he waited a few minutes before activating the ship's shields, effectively encasing portion of the temple, the mine entrance, and about two thirds of his workers. His sensor screen showed markers of his own ships, and his gut, already in knots, felt like it was falling out of him; the small blips that were the gliders and alkesh only made the blobs on the outer edge all the larger by comparison- --------------------- Control room, Obsidian Hive -The Warden's nightshade eyes narrowed as the mist screens began to change their readings, showing a change in power, and movement above the city surface; ships, most small, but some larger, but nothing even remotely large as a crusier, let alone the hive. And nothing left the atmosphere to come and meet them at the fore. Giving a low grunt he upnodded to the nearby commander, who nodded back once and headed for the weaon console.- -normally it only took one to pilot a hive, given their mind was strong enoguh to keep it in line. But Obsidian was different; she had a will of her own, and a bloodlust for battle that was nearly unquenchable. The prospect of battle made her hull tremble with anticipation, and her thrusters would fire at odd intervals, like the flaring nostrils of a charging bovine.- -stroking the console, he fed his thoughts into the nexus- "You are doing well ... very well... just a little longer... " -the reply was not so much thoughts, or words - no the ship wasn't that developed - but her deisre was strong, her emotions defined; she wanted blood, and death, and carnage, and she wanted it now- -sending cues to the other crusiers, he let Obsidian crawl forward more than ordered her forward, closer to the unique binary planet. Reaching out with sensors he swept the uppermost planet, finding nothing of any signifigance to draw his attention. Switching back to the planet directly, focusing on the city, the energy spiked again as the ground based vessel raised a protective shield- -curiosity was the reply he felt from Obsidian; her bloodlust was suddenly slightly less, controling her movement was easier, as she probed this new phenomenon. It was not lantean technology, it felt different, lesser. The signature was different, the frequencies were off. Even The Warden could feel it and frowned. He didn't have to turn to see the Queen enter the command chamber to know she felt it as well- "What is that?"-the quality of her inquiry felt the same as the emotion running through the Hive, and he rose a brow at the odd connection between Queen and ship; a momentary pang of jealousy at the closeness of it, but was gone as quickly as it rose.- "Do we attack, my queen? -from one of the lead crusiers. The Queen walked past the control nexus and up to the forward most mist screen, raising her hands and letting the mist play over her skin as she moved her hands through the symbols that marked the strange shield- ---------- Surface of Vitazstvo - Dismantled Ha'tak pel'tak -Staring hard at the blob of sensor readout, his mouth went faintly dry as the shapes moved forward, then stopped. What were they waiting for? Why hadn't they launched? It was obvious he wasn't launching anything of his own. They had to have some kind of sensors to see his shield was up, and that he wasn't going to come to them. What was going on?- -his heart began to faintly settle, and his frown deepened, opening secure channel to the ships- "Kree, Jaffa. All of you fly back here and take up a closer patrol. One of you scan the outlaying region.. I want to know how many people are outside the shield...One Alkesh... leave atmosphere and approach. Attempt a hail... perhaps they're willing to bargan..." -a thought was forming in his mind, as he looked upward at the lush planet above them. A dark thought, but a thought none the less. He would do what he had to, if it meant survival. As the gliders pulled in closer and gave head counts, he was dismayed to learn only half the planetary workforce had made it inside the shield before it was erected, effectively trapping over 80 thousand people outside.- -pursing his lips and squaring his shoulders, he nodded to himself- "So be it..." -his eyes tracking the lone dot that broke away from the planet, and headed toward the large mass of sensor blobs- ----------- -The Queen pulled her hand back from the mist and went stil, her hand hanging faintly, then she turned and looked at The Warden- "Parlay?" -he nodded and shruged- "They must know they stand no defence... and wish to grovel at your mercy, my Queen." -as he thought it, the hive responded, a swelling sence of pride that he had to chuckle at and stroke the console. The Queen bared her teeth in a feral smile and low hiss, hiking part of her skirt to move quickly back down the hall toward the hangar.- "Open the bay doors on starboard... launch two escort darts... this ship has a small shield of it's own... have them fire lancing shots to test it's strength... and then sease fire... let's see if they're foolish enough to fight back..." -the Warden remained at the control nexus to issue the orders she requested, and while she returned to the throne room to preen, two darts left the bay and shot toward the approaching vessel. Almost before they were in range both darts let off a single shot, one glanced the shield the other near direct hit. The small ship buckled and came to a stop, it's energy signature fluxuationg dangerously- "That's enough..."-The Warden's tone was amused; the ship was somewhat large, and it took the punshiment gracefully, but under pressure the shield would not hold, he knew that much now. The mental laughter was shared ship wide at the game they were playing, and the two darts began to circle the stationary ship, waiting to see if it lashed out in return- ----------------- Surface of Vitazstvo - Dismantled Ha'tak pel'tak -Perun gripped the console as his jaffa began to panic as they were fired upon, barking into the secure com-"DO NOT FIRE! They're testing you! Do not, for the love of all things, fire your weapons!" -breathing heavily he watches the two small signatures circle the alkesh, like blood hungry fish. When nothing further happened, he keyed closer sensor readings- -his eyes narrowed as he looked over the scanner; the ship was enormous. The sensor screen couldn't hold it all even at range. Zooming to sectors, he scanned the surface, stopping on one section and leaning in- "Kree, jaffa... they have a open bay ... just under the ... " -his head tilted, using his hand to illistrate even though the com was only audio- ".. the ventral starboard side there.. you see it? Its like they're waiting... see if they let you forward..." -he held his breath as the alkesh hessitated, then started to move forward. The two circling shapes stayed with it, but did not fire further. He exhailed with a great gust as the alkesh sensor reading was slowly swallowed by the hive's massive bulk- "Well... there's that at least... " -and he flopped into the console's chair, glad the pel'tak was empty except for himself- |

Obsidian Hive, Dart Bay -the three jaffa aboard the alkesh stared out the viewer of the ship at the emptyness of the hive's dart bay, at the thousands of needle pointed darts ready to launch at a moment's notice. They stared at the vastness of the bay they were in knowing it was only a small part of the ship entire. Looking at eachother, they gave a short, old prayer to ancient gods for strength, and got up to open the doors.- -the hatch opened and they were met by an empty hallway. No guards, no Wraith, no soldiers. Just the empty, mist covered walkway. The three slowly climbed out of the ship, looking around and up, one looking over the edge of the landing pad they'd come to rest on seeing even more space below. Gathering again near the ship the three spoke quietly to eachother- "This isn't right... we can't get any com in or out... we're not negotiators or politicians... we're not qualified to do this!" "Pease, brother, we may not be politicians, but every warrior knows when to fold, and when to fight... this is a time to fold if we are to survive... you know it.. I know it...and you heard Lord Perun's voice as clearly as I did ....he knows it too...that's why we're here instead of a million pieces out there ..." "So what's this? Another test? See if we're sinceere?" "I dont know... and I can't say.. but I only see two choies..." -the jaffa gestured at the gaping maw of the hallway the platform lead to, then back at the open alkesh with his other hand. Riaising his rows and throwing up his hands- "we don't have any other choices... so lets make one and be done with this..." -the three silently deliberated a while longer, then made a show of tossing their weapons into the alkesh and closing it up, before starting down the walkway into the hive itself. They walked for what felt like years, but was only a matter of moments. They didn't see or hear a single thing, except the muffled shift and step of their own boots through the mist. They reached a large open alcove, with several optional offshoots, and came to a stop, each looking at eachother and the various options- "Ok... this is feeling less like choices... and more like rats in a maze while the cat watches ... we should go back.. if they want to talk to us they can come get us..." -the moment the one speaking turned to do just that, the hall's mist started to stir, and they saw the light of the hall blocked by a silouette. A long fingered hand and shoulder was visible cast on the wall, fingers curling slowly into a fist and then open again with a low, skin crawling curring sound- -one of the others gripped him by the upper arm and guided him back- "Guess that's a no on that choice... c'mon... which one of these to take?" -the more reasonable of the trio looked from alcove to alcove, eyes narrowing, brows lowering as he paused, his head tilting- "You hear that?" "Hear what? I can't hear anything over the pulse pounding in my ears... we shouldn't be here " -making a shushihg motion the more reasonable jaffa crept forward, tilting his head as if listening, the other two looked at eachother as they heard othing, one glancing back the way they came. The shadow was gone, but neither one of them was willing to risk finding out what cast it- "This way.. c'mon.." -the now lead jaffa turned down a corridor and started walking without waiting to see if they'd follow. Without any other real options the two did follow, slightly at a distance, but close enough together to be of use if something happened. Frightened as they were they were still jaffa, combat was in their blood- -they followed the lead jaffa a good three hundred yards further, entering a kind of t joint, where he paused and put his ear to what looked like a recessed archway with webbing cover. He was still and quiet for a moment before looking at th eother two, frowning- "You don't hear that?" -Frustrated, the first jaffa hissed-"Hear what Jense?! I don't hear anything at all! Haven't since we left the ship! What's with you?!" -frowning, the one called Jense slowly straightened- "you ... don't hear the singing?" -his tone was worried, and the third jaffa's face became worried as he pointed behind Jense, as the weblike wall started to part and open the recessed alcove. Inside was a vast, ribcage like room, the far end of which was a raised platform and a single high backed chair that looked more like a skeletal hand reaching up from the mist than a chair.- -the room was empty as far as they could see, but suddenly, all three could hear the soft, lilting lullabye song, wordless, a womans' voice with multiple tones all together, yet seporate. The three walked into the chamber as if in a trance, their faces confused, curious, but no longer afraid. Something in the song made them feel different, safe, even as the weblike door grew back into place behihnd them.- -the three came up to the chair, which slowly turned around where it was rooted, the sound like twisting leather. The Queen was seated in it, languid, leaning back, one long leg crossed loosely at the knee, arms resting lightly on either arm of the chair, the black near gossimer dress glittering in the dark of the throne chamber's meager light. As her eyes came to rest on each of them, the song intencified in their minds, drowning out the throne room, as each, one by one, lowered to their knees, looking up at her with doelike expressions- -the song wrapped around their minds and sences, as she slowly rose from her chair, approaching on bare feet. She reached out to the central jaffa, the one they'd called Jense, running the tips of her fingers along the brand on his brow, down the edge of his cheek and under his chin. Her lips curved in a matronly smile as his eyes glassed over and his jaw went faintly slack.- -she repeated this soft, wordless touch to the other two jaffa slowly, there was no rush in her actions, no hitch in her mental sirens song. As the last jaffa fell under her spell, the room opened on either side, The Warden entering with three other commanders, and a handfull of drone soldiers.- "Their minds are so pliable... they've been conditioned to follow orders.." -the Warden commented, looking at the three kneeling jaffa's backs, one hand at his side uncurling from the loose fist- "but they are not human..." -shaking her head slowly she began to circle the trio, and unlike when she took the other wraith queen's thoughts, this time she was gentle, delicate, reaching past their conciousness, digging slowly and carefully. Human minds were fragile things, and these things were close enough. Probing the wrong place would cause damage, and hysteria would insue. No, she wanted this to last. She enjoyed it far more than she thought she would- -she spent nearly an hour doing this, unlocking their minds, absorbing what they knew piece by piece, all three at once, while The Warden and commanders stood by and shared what she gave them; language, names, common commands and phrases, code words for attack and defence strategies, but mostly all about what it was to be Jaffa.- |

Surface of Vitazstvo - Dismantled Ha'tak pel'tak -Perun paced the pel'tak for the better part of five hours wihtout word, or ability to contact the alkesh that entered the hive. No change in their formations gave him any indication of what was going on, but the lack of any sudden advance and attack was at least a good sign. He made mental note to praise the jaffa for saving the settlement if it came to that - -finally the sensor beeped and he spun around to grip its edges, watching the one lone dot that registered as his alkesh emerge from the hive and start heading back. He exhaield great gust of air and flopped down into the seat, only to frown as three of the shapes around the hive pulled off, and started following the alkesh- -he was about to open hail and warn the alkesh whe the three settled into a wedge formation behind the ship, and kept an even spacing as they neared the planet; the alkesh was leading them back, not being followed back or chased. When the frown line on his brow was almost a permanent fixture on his expression, the hail came through. Not from the wraith as he had expected, but from his jaffa- "Kel, Lord Perun, we return successfull. The Wraith are going to be sending a deligation to open negotiations ... please disable the shield and allow us passage. We will escort the ship to a point you designate, my Lord..." -Perun's eyes narrwed, and he leaned in to the com viewer- "Kree, Jaffa... what kind of game are you playing? I'm not going to lower the shields when there are three crusiers right behind you... Your words do little to reassure your god that this is not a trap... did they coerse you into doing this? Making me lower my guard so they could destroy me?" -the jaffa's expression pinched, and he frowned- "No... No my Lord.. why would you think that? We just risked our lives for you on your orders. We entered the hive as you commanded, which turned out to be exactly what they wanted. They didn't want to fight. They want to talk... " -he glanced faintly down and to one side, as if reading an insturment panel- "see for yourself.. they haven't enterd atmosphere." -Perun moved his chair over and took another look at the screen; indeed the jaffa was right. The three crusiers had come to a stop just outside the upper stratosphere of the planet, waiting like trained dogs waiting for their master to tell them to pounce. Perun didn't like this, not one bit. But he couldn't risk the jaffa telling the truth and runing it by being stubborn. Gritting his teeth he went back to the com viewer- "Swear to me, Jaffa... Swear on the lives of your children.. that this is the truth. That what you've told me is not a trick or a trap" -his eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the jaffa's expression- "No my lord, this is not a trap, or a trick. I swear..." -Perun's gut churned as the possible ramifications of outcomes ran through his mind, hand hovering over the shield control. Hessitation could be read as distrust, and soil the negotiation table prematurely. On the other hand, that shield was the only thing currently holding them at bey at least for now. Looking from the control to the viewer and back to the control he sighed, closed his eyes, and pushed the switch- -the shield flickered as it went down, and the alkesh slowly continued it's progress, coming in at a low angle toward the Ha'tak. Perun opened his eyes, looking to the scanner then back to the readouts, and back to the scanner. The Wraith hadn't moved or opened fire. - -Standing up he moved to the viewer swiftly, near tripping over his own robe as it got cought on a chair corner. Wrenching himself free he moved to the viewer and looked up and out as the alkesh came into view. His head tilted as he watched it hover instead of land, brows drawing together. The frown flattened out as his shoulders slumped, an expression of resignation as he watched the ventral turret on the alkesh drop and rotate to point at the pel'tak- "Oh, for the love of..." -was all he managed before the top of the pel'tak was blasted by his own ship. The chain reaction disabled what little power the ship was still generating to weapons, and the alkesh swooped around and raised shields as the gliders dove in to attack. - -From the atmostphere, the whine of dart engines was like the buzz of an approaching swarm, as hundreds of needle point ships broke atmosphere through the clouds and flanked the gliders and opposing alkesh. Under strict orders, the darts did not destroy the gliders, only crippled and crashed, along with the other alkesh. - -as the people below huddled in the shadow of the burning ha'tak the wraith darts slowly disabled the meager fleet and another wave of darts came down and landed forming a perimeter around the downed ships. Out of the ten gliders, eight managed to land without entirely blowing up. The second alkesh was a little worse for wear, and smoking, but the ten jaffa aboard were secured, and alive- -the jaffa were rounded up under the carefull watch of several wraith commanders, who actaully appeared to work with the three that came back from the hive, pointing out leaders, platoon groups and hearding them toward the field where they were beamed up by the darts that started returning to the hive- -the commanders on the ground eyed the huddling masses of humans, one commander stomping his foot in their direction, and the group shared a laugh as the mass cringed as one, huddling closer to the walls. One Wraith scout ship broke atmosphere and came to a landing not far from the burning ha'tak, a single black clad figure emerging- -As The Warden approached the others, the humans watching saw the odd half bow and exposure of the neck that the commanders did, the sunlight glinting off the Warden's face mask as his nightshade eyes roamed over the huddled crowd. Even from a distance, the reek of fear was intoxicating- "Round them all up... and then tell them to run... we'll give them a head start this time..." -the group shared a dark chuckle as they went to do as he commanded, and as dart after dart unloaded their hold of wraith drone soldiers and officers, the area out front of the ha'tak began to fill- -as the humans started fleeing, the Wraith almost as one simoltanious action, all rose their arms and bellowed. The sound was beyond discription, and it followed the fleeing workers for miles, a haunting hunting call that carried on the wind. Most fled harder, running faster as they heard it. Some few, eyes rolled up and fell flat on the ground unconcious from the overload of fear- -The Warden walked to the center of the wraith gathering, looking about him and nodding in approval as all went slowly silent. He raised one hand, looking about, and then dropped it. The slap against his leather clad hip echoed like a gunshot, and the wraith spun about, and broke in multiple directions, once again banding in their smaller groups and begining the Hunt- -This Hunt was different than the previous two; it wasn't out of hunger, or even to feed. It was hunting for the act of Hunting. They chased, they trapped, they baited and played, for well over five hours. A third of the population was lost as feeding took place but the rest were merely chased around the planet for sport, stunned and left for other game elsewhere.- -When the Queen's call was heard, they all stopped at the same time, mid step some of them, and looked upward at the same point in the sky, turning around and headed back to the darts and scout ships. Without word, without prisoners, they re-boarded their darts, picked up their groups, and left the surface, headed back to their crusiers- -the massive dark shape of the hive cast a shadow over the settlement as it orbited, blocking the setting sun as the three crusiers took up their position once again around the hive, a few darts passing back and forth between them and the hive itself.- |

-for the next three days the citizens of the planet huddled in their homes, while the shadow of death incarnate slowly passed overhead every few hours as the hive and it's crusiers orbited. Occationally a dart would fly past and scan, as if counting heads, but no one was taken. This curious last bit had a few citizens come out of their houses and watch the massive bulk pass by overhead, marveling that they were stil alive- -aboard the hive, and in various holding cells in the crusiers, the jaffa of Perun were brought to the throne room in groups of 3's and 5's. Those who folded under the Queen's mental grip left without restraints, walking among the Wraith like they belonged. Those that did not, were taken to the crusiers to begin the process of near death, and the Gift of Life under the watchfull eye of The Warden. - -By the end of the fourth day, the Queen was able to recall them by name, or pet title like 'big one' or 'scared', and had already picked her handfull of jaffa go-to men. Jence was primary among them, and facilitated many of the transitions smoothly. In the end, the jaffa army was not only in full service of the Queen, but overjoyed to do so.- -The Warden made another public appearance on the surface, emerging from the sleek scout ship with an entorage of commanders, and about a hundred drone soldiers and darts. With the jaffa assisting, the human population was slowly but surely brought to the ring platform, and transfered from Vitastvo, to the dence forrest planet of Domovnik above.- -It took another full day using only the rings, but there was a point behind it; the queen wanted the people on Domovnik to know the only way they would go anywhere, was through that ring platform they arrived on. Like hearding sheep into a pen, the people were taken from the 'field' of Vitastvo, and placed in the 'pen' on Domovnik. There they could mill about at their leasure, integrate with the massive population already there, and spread the word of what had transpired on their former home- -While this was going on, Jence was working with The Warden and a handfull of scientificly enclined wraith commanders going over the wreckage of the ha'tak, and it's other ships. In the end, it was determined none of the technology was compatable, but the ideas behind them could be. Shields they viewed as next to useless, compared to the firepower of their own ships, as was most of the other systems aboard. However, The Warden did find interest, in the ability of the alkesh cloak.- -Back aboard the hive, The Warden closseted himself in the throne room, which by now had seen much more traffic than it was used to. The Queen sat in her chair, looking closely at the walls when he entered. He paused at the webbing of the door, and waited for some sign of acknowledgement, and recieved it with a faint raise and becon of a finger, though he could feel her attention was elsewhere- "We have suitable material, manpower, and food supply to make an active Nest here, my Queen. It would be the first our kind had made in mellenia according to the memories obtained... We ..." -he paused, his thoughts caressing hers- "My Queen? Is all well? " -she blinked and turned her head to look at him, and for a moment her expression was vacant of recognition, then her pupils focused, and her lips pulled back briefly tightening accross her teeth as she stood- "Of course, and I hear you ... it would be a signifigant achievement if we succeed... " -she took The Warden's hand by the wrist and lead him to the wall she had been so intent upon earlier.- -For a moment when she put his hand against the membrane like material he was confused, but then he started, almost jerking his hand back as he felt the sence of life flowing from just under the surface. Pausing he reached out with more than his hand, feeling small beacons of life all along the multiple alcoves lining the throne room. As he opened his eyes and looked again, he gave a shaky exhail- "The Hive... The Hive has given you a womb outside your own body..." -his mental voice was awed at the concept as she nodded and stroked the portion of wall she'd had him touch- "She knew what I wanted... what we needed... and she gave it to us... in a few months these walls will be bulging with the growing seeds within... and the first of our brood will take their first breath here in this room... where they were made to begin with." -The Warden glanced about the room again, counting this time; there was over a dozen alcoves, easily twenty or more. He knew he was only a small contributor to their creation, a portion of DNA, but still, he couldn't stop the swelling of pride in his chest at the concept that these small beacons of life were his future children, and the future of this hive.- "The planet is clear?" -the Queen's thoughts invaded his reverie, and he nodded- "Begin harvesting the enzymes for a ship... Obsidian aggrees with you. It is time we started building." -she paused and moved back to her throne- "Nothing of the simbiote technology was of any signifigance?" -shaking his head he almost said no, but paused, and shared his recent memories of the alkesh cloak demonstration earlier-"The Lantean's used this .. or something similar .. on their small vessels..." -turning to an alcove he asked the hive to give him a mist screen showing the two planets, and directed attention with a taloned hand pointing at the forest planet- "As instructed the herd has been moved here... upon inspection of the planet by your soldiers, there were animals found with an ability quite similar to the desired effect." -the queen's eyes narrowed, and she looked at the planet on the display thoughtfully- "Make it so... get the labs aboard the crusiers to do simulations ... and mix them with the ship enzymes... lets see what happens..."
