Where the War Chariots are well rounded for a multitude of tasks, and are aesthetically configured to inspire awe, the Methusela is designed to inspire fear. It's forward sweeping, serrated pylons seem to reach out from the depths of the pit as it glides through space. The main function of the Methusela is to act as fleet suppression, control center and transport. With it's sole weapon being a wide variety of missiles designed to cripple, capture, or destroy, it was meant to be able to stand it's own against a large number of ships. To counter smaller groups and gliders, it has a large contingent of assault ships to protect it against incoming ordinance. It's shielding is a modification/improvement of the usual Field of Reversal. Originally the field was a stationary pocket of folded space that protected what was inside. The Rolling Reversal field is not stationary, constantly shifting the outer layer of space around the inner layer, it's point of focus being the emitter array instead of the point of space being folded. This Rolling field allows the ship to erect the protective barrier and continue to move. With multiple relay points along the forward arching pylons allow the field size and general shape to be enlarged by expanding the 'arms' of the ship into a broad 'Assault' pattern, taking advantage of the over 5 mile reach to cover a very large area. A large number of ships close enough to the carrier when the shield goes active are able to benefit from it's protection this way. Using a combination transfer array, multiple ZPM units on rotating use pattern are plugged into a spherical grid unit that serves as the main power supply deep within the ship. When in use the sphere rotates to connect specific modules with their circuits. When the Quantum Gate Drive is spooling up for use, the sphere rotates in a constant state of building energy until a specific level is reached, and then dispersed all at once down the length of the four main pylon arrays. All unnecessary systems (weapons, shield, propulsion, navigation) are offline while spooling. The Quantum Gate drive takes a full minute to calculate positional apertures, another to spool to the appropriate level of energy, and a final 30 second count after the dispersal of energy along the emitters for the gateway to be fully open and stable. So long as the Quantum Gate engine remains active the gateway remains open, allowing instantaneous travel from any two known points within 1,000 lightyears of the ship as a point of origin. Vessels in the area are able to move freely in either direction through the gate, no special equipment is required. However, if a ship is caught within the gate aperture zone while being created, the resulting folding of space will distort anything caught in it's radial shape. Objects thusly effected remain this way until the gate is closed. Objects caught in the aperture zone when the gate is closed, are literally stretched from point to point, and in essence are obliterated. It is equipped with an onboard workshop, mainly for the creation of ordinance for the multitude of missile batteries, but can also service as a fighter repair bay, or an engineering station. There is a dedicated medical bay, and hydroponics 'garden' to supply air for long duration trips as well as food if need be, though that is limited to root type plants and vegetables, nothing like a field of wheat or corn can be grown without sacrificing surface area used for oxygen producing plant life. The command and control unit is situated in a central chamber of the main rear compartment situated just before the engines, and just behind the main pylon mechanism. When in 'cruiser' mode, the main view is limited to sensor relays. The ship is equipped with a series of WSKRS (pronounced "whiskers"; Wireless Space Knowledge Retrieval Satellites); small sensor probes that are remotely controlled by the ship's sensor console. The WSKRS serve as the "eyes and ears" and can relay telemetry data back to the ship light years away. In a pinch, the WSKRS can also be used as an emergency power supply and can be reconfigured for communication purposes. When in assault mode, half the WSKRS are recalled, and main sensors come online covering up to three light years of distance from the ship, as well as opening a frontal view point in the center of the pylon 'arms'. Scorpion Assault Fighter Alt view Class: Heavy Assault Length: 35 meters Width: 750 meters Depth: 15 meters (escort mode) 35 meters (assault mode) Hyperdrive system: Interstellar Hull: Quantum Crystaline Alloy (black) Countermeasures: Shields (MkII), Cloaking device, Slip Engine Armament : 4 (MkII) Staff cannon (45 degree target arc, port/starboard forward placement), 8 (MkII) 2 barrel PDL (half turren mount, wingtip placement, 280 degree firing arc, active only in assault mode), plasma bomb delivery (aft), 4 missile bay (3 fore, 1 aft) Power Source: D-ZPM core, weapons each have their own power unit. (alkesh standard +1) Troops: 25-50 (or cargo space for 50kT wt) Command Crew: 3 (Min) 6-8 (Max) Maneuverability: Maneuvering thrusters (spherical overall placement), glider anti grav modification, 4 thruster nacelles (rear), slip engine support, short range (inter system) hyperdrive The escort assault fighter designed for the Methusela, the Scorpion assault ship is in essence the teeth of the ship. Where the main missile batteries are it's fists, the Scorpion fighter is it's bite. Operating in groups of 3, 5 or wings of twelve, the 240 ships are launched from forward facing bays on the main body of the ship just behind the forward sweeping pylons. When in 'cruiser' mode the ships have to launch a wing at a time. When in 'assault' mode, all wings can launch at once in a wide spread dispersal. The Scorpion requires a three man bridge crew; pilot, scanner, and gunner. The high number of PDL mounted on the wing tips have a wide range of rotation once the 'wings' are deployed in assault mode. Each wing cluster (4 on either side of the main ship) are able to independently track targets, while the forward mounted staff cannons are your more customary artillery. The gunner can choose to fire in cyclic, group, or 'all' fire modes. Cyclic fire mode cycles through the PDL turrets one after the other, allowing for an extremely high rate of fire, considering the PDL is already nearly automatic. Group fire mode links the individual wing clusters to fire sequentially, cycling through the 4 individual groups. All fire mode fires all PDL at once. The weapon clusters can be targeted on a single objective or independently track up to 4 at once. The ship also has a small compliment of Kinetic Kill and Gorgon missiles, as well as the usual compliment of plasma and Swift Arrow bombs. The Scorpion is also the first ship of it's size in Ares' fleet that has the slip engine modification. While it functions much the same as the Arc Light slipfighter engine, the spool time and jump range is effected due to power requirements. The 15 second wait between jumps is doubled, and the range limitation is 500 meters. Edited by Ares, Oct 21 2011, 01:06 PM.

There's an aspect of this ship that reminds me of the Narada from Star Trek. ((Edit: Just seen the address for the first image... That'd be why it reminds me of the Narada then! ))I second this approval.
