Chulak Spaceport, Serpent's Death Tavern

"Another flagon of ale, my good man!" shouted the hooded figure amid the shouts and crashes within the tavern. Though the room was brightly lit, none could discern the faces of either the dark or white cloaked figures. The dark one had not ceased to talk to the patrons...the white one had not spoken since arrival. Dark slapped the backside of the waitress as she set down the ales for the two men; he winked as she blushed and scurried away. He looked over at White and shook his head.

"Have we not had a time worthy of stories, my brother?" He took a gulp of ale and wiped the froth off his beard. While the lack of light penetrating the cloaks was odd, none moreso than the beard poking out from the hood. Every person in the tavern could see it, yet none could speak of its color or size. Everything about the men was simply there, yet not. Not a single clue towards their identity could be remembered. For some, they could not even remember seeing the pair.

"Indeed we have," replied White. He, too, took a long sip from the flagon before setting it down. "I want more."

"And they call me the bloodthirsty one," Dark muttered to himself. Spotting a nervous man entering the tavern, he stood up. A quick beckon with the hands steered the nervous one over to the pair. "My good man Revos, what news have you today? My brother hungers for more slaughter."

"Uh, yes, yes..." Revos eyed the flagon of ale in front of Dark, who nodded and slid it over.

"Speak." Revos gulped down almost half the contents and looked to Dark.

"Your last job gained some attention, you know..." Dark laughed and banged his fist on the table.

"Of course it did? You can't take out an entire Lucian Alliance fleet with just two people and not have someone notice." Dark looked around and pulled out a small bag with a drawstring on the top. He tossed it to Revos, the sound of clinking metal filling his ears. "A little something for tracking down a vessel suitable for my brother and I. But be careful...while there are mistresses aplenty on this world, I fear there are none more attuned to the scent of money."

"Th-thank-you, sir," Revos said, quickly pocketing the money. He pulled out an envelope and handed it to Dark. "Lines are being drawn again, this time between the Tau'ri and the Empire. War will rage soon, all across the galaxy. I have put together a dossier on a few potential patrons looking for your...services."

"Good. We will contact you when we have decided, Revos." Dark flipped the man another coin. "Have one on us."

White nodded and stood up; Revos turned around to say thanks but the men were already gone. He sighed, counting down the hours until he would have to be the intermediary for the two most dangerous men he had ever known. Still, the pay was good, and his multiple wives had yet to complain...then again, none knew of the other. He grinned, certain that with another few jobs he would be able to retire in one of those new manors being built along the cliffsides dotting Chulak's principle city. Revos finished the flagon left by Dark and pocketed the coin with a wide smile.

A few hours later a clocked figure walk into the tavern and sits at a table. The figure looks around the bpard and listens to the talk that was going on around it. The server comes back to take an order and then walks off leaving the figure to survey the room. After a moment or two the figure reaches up and slides back the hood of her cloak to reveal a head of long red hear. Inanna had come to Chulak to learn what she could about the Jaffa on the planet and how she could help her husband Sirus in creating a unified alliance.

As she sits there she hears the rumors about two men who were looking for employment. Two men that from the descriptions she heard had been at the battle against the Malecathi. Truth was that she had slipped away to go this information gathering run and now that she was here was glad she had come. Her drink finally comes and she waits to see if she can hear anything more about the two men. She even asks one of the servers what they knew and all this garners is a name, Revos. With this information she gets up and talks to the barkeeper about arranging a meeting with this Revos character.

Revos looked over at the barkeep, nodding as they locked eyes. The barkeep nodded his head in the direction of a red-haired woman sitting at the far end of the bar. Revos walked towards the woman, admiring her form whose stiff cloak still betrayed. He came to a halt beside her and nonchalantly leaned on the bar's edge. His eyes were fixated on the small bowl of assorted nuts beside an empty drink as he spoke.

"I hear you want to arrange a meeting with Revos," he said. He picked up a strange, purplish nut and tossed it in his mouth. The woman's left eyebrow piqued and she spun to face him. "Follow me."

Revos never turned to see if the woman followed him as he walked across the tavern's table-strewn floor to take up residence in a corner booth. Large drapes could be pulled together to form a screen from the rest of the establishment. He sat down and waited.

Inanna gets up and follows the man into the corner booth and then sits down with a smile. Once seated she looks him over and then raises an eyebrow. "Yes I am looking to speak with Revos. I have heard he is the man to talk to in regards to a pair of men looking for employment." She hoped that she wasn't playing too much of her hand but it was what she needed to do in order to be successful in this venture.

"I know of this man Revos, and I know of these two men...the question is, what sort of employment do you wish to offer?"

Revos waved a hand for a waitress before closing the blinds. He sat back and looked at Inanna for a response as he enjoyed the privacy the blinds granted the pair. Within the Free Jaffa Nations, one always had to be careful with conversation--one simply never knew where another's loyalty might lie.

"Well I am sure these two men would be interested in a military command." Inanna was able to play the game of giving just enough information to be interesting but not giving more than was need to get an answer. The setting was one that make plain speaking a dangerous thing.

"My benefactor witnessed there prowess in the battle against the Malecathi a few months back." That should narrow down who the possible employer could be. As she waited for a reply she wondered if she had given enough information.

A drink poked through the blinds; Revos took it and swiftly tossed a large gold coin back through. He swirled his reddish drink thoughtfully, mulling over the offer. After taking a sip of the cold beverage, he set it back down and looked at the woman.

"You are not human, which means you are not an agent of the Tau'ri. You are obviously not a diplomat from the Free Jaffa Nation, as their method of diplomacy is far too crude. So, from that," he said, eying Inanna's figure once more, "I can only deduce that you have been sent by the Tok'ra. Although I wonder what makes the Tok'ra believe that two talented warriors would ever feel like commanding..."

Inanna nods her head in acknowledgement to the deduction as he watches him swirl his drink. "Well you said yourself that they are talented warriors. Though I am sure you have heard the rumors of the changes that have been made in the Tok'ra." She was sure that he would have heard something of there being a new attitude with in the Tok'ra ranks.

"Ah yes," Revos said, "the budding alliance spearheaded by the Tok'ra." He slammed his drink down on the table and unbuttoned the top of his shirt to reveal a large impact scar. "Spare me the lecture of your righteousness, woman. My clients are to be contracted out, not to stand underneath your new attempt at avoiding your race's nature. So, if you have a job, speak. If not, you can leave."

"Simply put we could use two warriors of their capabilities to command a couple of our new ships or a ground in the battle that we suspect is coming. The details of course would need to be worked out but that is the job and as you can see it is one that promises to be a long term one."

Revos looked at Inanna with raised eyebrows and then coughed up a laugh. He drained the rest of his drink and tossed a small communicator orb on the table.

"For our potential patrons," he explained as he rolled it across the table. "If you find that you have a concrete job for us, make contact with that. Don't bother tracking it. If we like the job and the pay, we're yours. But don't get any foolish notions of hiring for the long-term...we don't do that sort of business."

Inanna takes the communicator and nods slightly as she pockets it. "Well in that case I will sure to have High Councilor Sirus contact you shortly." She was somewhat amused by the way things had gone down but with the plans that she were being formulated that a concrete job would not be hard to find.

As Inanna left the booth, Revos leaned back in his seat and spoke aloud to seemingly no one:

"That name ring any bells?"

"Indeed it does," came the familiar voice of Dark. He and White were in the next booth, having overheard the entire conversation.

"Think it's a safe job?" A sharp laugh.

"No job should ever be safe...but the Tau'ri and Tok'ra aren't going to sell us out or send us on a suicide mission, I believe. And considering the budding alliance will be making plenty of enemies at a rapid pace, I think we will find plenty of fun."

"Very well," Revos said with a slight sigh. "I will let you know when Sirius has contacted me with a mission. Try not to get into any trouble in the meantime, please? This is the last tavern that I can go to now..."

"No promises, Revos," Dark replied with a chuckle. Revos heard the blinds opening in the other booth, indicating the exit of the warrior pair. Revos was left to his own thoughts.

They better pay well...

A slim teenager walked into the tavern keeping to the shadows as his black eyes swept the room. The boy got a few jeers from the drunk men sitting next to the door as their eyes found the wavering form of a boy soon be a man, probably not able to hold his drink in their minds, they went back to their drinks quietly though and left the dark skinned person to continue on his way.

His dark sandy colored tunic left his arms open to the sun and showed very defined muscles as he rested himself at the corner of the rough hewed bar. As the server approached him looking weary he slid a coin over the stained wood and motioned to a dark jug on the shelf behind. Another coin followed the first as the drink was given to him and another few as he mentioned that he might be looking for some people.

Those who are ignorant and admit they don't know, don't bother me. Those who reject things w/o knowing what they are get under my skin. But those who 'believe' to go with the crowd & disagree with key components but never bother to investigate and determine the truth, those who will listen to a speaker and twist the words to some vague moralistic message that will make them feel good about themselves, I cannot stand.

"Then you've come to the right place," the bartender replied as he collected a few used mugs. He dropped them on a tray for a dishwasher to collect and turned to face the boy. "Plenty of thieves, scoundrels, assassins and wayward warriors to work any job. Now, if you're looking for a special lady, the red district's that way, boy."

The young face remained emotionless as he slid a few more coins of a heavier looking gold towards the bartender but this time kept his hand resting on it. His dark voice was smooth as he again said he was looking to hire.

"I am seeking professionals for a job. I know who I seek is here if you would point me towards them."

"Then you would be looking for me," the man in the next seat over said as he swiveled to face the boy. His face was scarred, but his skin indicated that while he had seen many battles, he was not young. "I represent a pair of warriors who are looking for challenging and, might I add, bloody, work. If you have such a task, follow me."

Revos stood up and ran a hand through his medium-length brown hair before flashing his eyes in the direction of two hooded men across the room. As he walked over to the booth he noticed that they were taking up space in the adjoining one. Revos sat down in the booth to wait for the boy.

The kid followed his eyes and let him get halfway to the booth before he slid from the rough hewn bar stool. Ignoring the look from the bar tended the money didn't leave his hand as he slide away from him and towards the booth.

He loosened the sheath at his side as he sat to keep it easily reached. The hilt of the short blade was dull bronze and showed years of use. He waited a moment before speaking.

"I would like carnage through a handful of targets. Disruption, panic, a distraction of blood. Can you arrange this?"

The corner of his mouth tilted upwards slightly as the thoughts of such killings paraded through his mind.

"That sounds something they can handle," Revos replied with a matching smile. He rolled a communications orb across the table, the young man catching it before it fell. "When you are certain no one can overhear you, contact me on this orb. Once I know what the job is, then we can talk payment."

Revos stood up from the booth and tossed the young man a coin.

"For a good time down the street...tell them Revos sent you. Just don't let them see all that gold you apparently are lugging around..." With that, Revos exited the booth and wove his way through the surprisingly thick crowd. No one noticed the cloaked pair in the other booth move to leave through the rear exit.

The youth finished his drink after a moment and then, after tossing a gold coin onto the table, stood and made his way towards the door. As he stepped into the street he carefully slid the bronze hilted stone knife back into the sheath having wiped it on one of the drunkards as he slipped out the door.

Another moment and yells could be heard on the street as the dark skinned kid slipped away in the crowd towards the stargate. On cue of the yells several more would fall dead from hired blades heading away from the gate. They would meat their end as well when they showed for the second half of their pay.

With a longing look in his eye he slipped through the gate to Magtireth.
