In light of the recent revelations that this reality is not our prime, the military was ordered to undergo a review of military equipment in relation to the relevant threats in this galaxy: namely, the Tau'ri, Lord Ares, and former Administrator Kaeth. What follows is an objective outlook on the strengths and weaknesses of our armed forces, so that you policy makers have the best information at hand to make the proper judgment. Fleet Close Range The Jiril-class cruiser is the front-line bruiser, boasting sufficient weaponry to make it a threat to even heavily-shielded foes by enabling a constant stream of weapons-fire. The only other mainline vessel capable of frontline action is the Acropolis-class frigate, but this should not be relied upon for staying power. All efforts should go to providing the Jiril-class with as much weaponry as is required to keep the enemy occupied, including an upgrading where possible of shielding. Until the efficacy of qalarnok missiles increases, the radius of shield inhibitors is too low before the target moves from its position. Recommendation: pursue technology relevant to stasis fields or gravitic anchors to weaponize for Jiril-class Medium Range There is not true medium-range threat in the navy, unless the Jiril-class is accounted for. The Maxana-class corvette has too limited a range to qualify, the Wabena-class carrier is not designed for mid-range fighting; this is an area of lacking, but current engagements have been in either close or long range, leaving this loss un-felt so far. Recommendation: increase production of capital-class vessels to fill mid-tier power gap Long Range The navy is full of long range weaponry and vessels, leaving us in a good position for initial strikes against an enemy. Recommendation: pursue technology advancements in regard to drone and missile range, missile lethality, and individual missile cloaking Infantry Army The army is designed for self-defense, and cannot mobilize quickly or with any heightened threat to an enemy beyond current stop-gaps. It is slow to act but also slow to uproot, allowing precious time to activate marine and anariathoi platoons for surgical strikes. A perfect anvil; it's perfection relegates it to a supporting role in any fight. Not recommended to use in offensive engagements. Recommendation: continue to pursue mechanized advancements for additional staying power with possible mobility increase Marines The transition from naval to ground-centric combat has not been easy, but armor and weapon advancements have allowed for a more effective fighting force. The only item lacking is anti-armor over a long distance. Recommendation: pursue size reduction technology for anti-armor drones for pairing with each squad Anariathoi The pairing of two with each marine squad has proven most effective, but their armament continues to put them on an uneven footing with the elite elements of Lord Ares and Kaeth. Their shielding continues to be inadequate, even if it is sufficient for most engagements in regard to closing distances. Recommendation: additional utility technology per soldier until personal shielding or armor technology advances sufficiently. |
