[Prologue: It’s been awaited since the moment he turned his back to the business. It has finally come…the opportunity of a lifetime, to once again see James Toreno in a wrestling ring. He has all the accolades to be given the utmost respect. He has the ego. He may not have the fan base, but that’s never been important to him. He is without a doubt, more so than anything else, the shot of rejuvenation that Supreme Championship Wrestling needs. Without him on the roster, all is bland and dull. Whether or not people admit to it, the absence of Toreno creates a much darker society for all of the company, on and off the stage. Come to terms with reality, Toreno is a legend. Forget the future, forget the past, he is and always will be the present. So let it be known around the world, this time Toreno is looking for a lot more than respect. He’s a matured and better overall individual. The world is about to have him thrown right back onto their laps. James is more than sure they’re happy to have him there.] James Toreno: What do you mean they don’t like me!? Of course they do! No no no, you don’t understand. I’m a legend, an icon. They NEED me here. [James paces around the living room of his apartment.] James Toreno: Listen to me. I don’t want to have to spell this out for you, but it seems you don’t understand. I AM JAMES TORENO. FORMER SCW UNITED STATES CHAMPION, UNDERGROUND CHAMPION, TAG TEAM CHAMPION. What? Why would I pay you? You should be paying me! What the hell do you mean you don’t care? Well then what are you good for? You’re fired! Wait… No you’re hired. Now you’re fired! [James laughs but is not amused. He pulls the phone from his face and forcefully clicks the off button. Proceeding towards his laptop, he tosses the phone onto the couch and sets the computer on his lap. Google relays his search and displays a few more telephone numbers. He picks up the phone once again and dials a number. He puts the laptop to his side once again and stands back on his feet.] James Toreno: Yes, I’m calling for Dave Rosenhaus. No problem. … James Toreno: Dave! How you doin’!? Long time no talk huh? Listen… I’ve been getting bored lately, I don’t think all these commercials and ads are really doing it for me. Yeah, well you know me. So I’m looking for a new agent. Someone who respects and admires how truly amazing I am. Someone who would kiss my ass basically. So I figured I’d give you a call. Want a job? …What? Jesus… What is it with everyone now. I’m joking. Dave… Dave? [James frowns and hangs up the phone. He dials in a new number.] James Toreno: Yeah hey. Want to become the agent of the worst SCW Champion to hold the belt? Great, I hear Greg Cherry is hiring. If you want a real client though, I am your man… You don’t do wrestling? Oh that’s fine. I do a lot more than wrestling. I can act, I can dance, fuck I’ll even sing if you want me to. Well yes, wrestling would be the main aspect of your job, but there is so much in store for you. I can even— [James hears the click. He sits back and sinks into his leather recliner. Pressing his hand onto his forehead, he ponders what to do.] James Toreno: Wait… I’m good at math and shit. Fuck it, I’ll be my own agent! It can’t be too hard. [James dials in a new number. He looks up above his sleek laptop and admires his mural perched high on his wall in front of him from when he became US Champion. It’s rather large.] James Toreno: Hey… I wanted to put this through the wire. I’m going to be my own agent. There’s no need for anyone but me to handle anything that has to do with me. So who better right? Okay… I’ll check it in a few minutes. [He clicks the phone off, sets it down, and walks over to his fax machine. Within minutes, a huge stack of papers piles in front of the machine. He gazes in amazement as the papers continue to spit from the machine. An error message comes up on the machine…ink cartridge. James shakes his head, replaces the cartridge and continues waiting. Finally the last document floats onto the top of the stack. The heading reads: SCW Finances. Flipping through a few more of the pages he fins a new bold heading at the top. It reads: SCW Injury Forgiveness. He continues flipping through the stacks of papers and finally throws the pile back in front of the fax machine. He goes back to his phone, dials a number into it and pulls it to his ear once again.] James Toreno: Forget what I said. You’re re-hired. I don’t care… Yes I hired you then I fired you. Now I re-hired you. Do you want the damn job or not? Alright then… I’ll have them send you everything soon. Bye. [Shaking his head, he tosses the phone back onto the couch and stands for a minute. He notices his keys sitting on the counter and swipes them from their spot as he walks out the door. He gets into his car, pulls out, and speeds down the road.] [James is now seen standing in front of what looks to be some sort of old gym. He grins for a moment, pulls his shades from his eyes and places them on the top of his forehead. He walks inside, takes a few looks around, and apparently finds what he came for. He starts walking again, and passes a wrestling ring. A session is going on so he doesn’t say a word to the two men inside. Instead he walks to the door of a small office. He knocks on the door and the man inside gets up within seconds of realizing who’s there. James grins as the man opens it up and looks shocked.] James Toreno: How you been? Man: JAMES!? HOW THE HELL YOU BEEN BUDDY!? HERE, here, sit down! [The wide eyed man guides him to a seat in front of what seems to be his desk. The man continues around it to the seat across and sits down.] Man: What the hell you doin’ here? Last time I seen you in person was before you became the big star. James Toreno: Frank, let’s be honest. I’ve always been a star. I just uh, hadn’t shown my true potential yet. Frank: Fuck that, I remember a time when Cassie over there could beat you. [He points to a man wearing a skirt and high heels standing outside the gym.] James Toreno: …Speaking of which. I’m going back to SCW. Frank: Tired of sitting at home? Odd for you. James Toreno: I know. Kind of surprising to be honest. I don’t know how long it’ll last. Needless to say though, I’m a bit rusty. Frank: You’re always rusty. I swear to god every time I used to see you there was at least a month’s interval between each visit. You’re lazy. I don’t think you got any better as you got older either. James Toreno: Lazy? I was always here at least 5 minutes early. Frank: Let’s be honest, the only time you were in this place early is when the bar came in and held happy hour on Friday Nights. James Toreno: What do you mean? That definitely counts… Well, anyway. I got something to tell you. See Cassie over there? That’s not far from who I’m facing in my first night back. Frank: They’re letting a tranny wrestle? Wait… You’re letting a tranny wrestle you? James Toreno: What’s a tranny? Is that like…the babysitter or something? Frank: … James Toreno: Right, well like I was saying… I’m facing…a girl. Frank: …James Cassie is a man. James Toreno: Bullshit I was eyeing her before I came in. There’s no way those are fake tits. Frank: Believe me I found out the hard way… It’s all regardless anyway. You know if you lose, I’m never letting you back in here again. James Toreno: Actually… Well obviously I won’t lose. But think about it for a minute. Wrestling a girl? Even though it’s terrible for me even to be in the circumstance, I’m trying to make lemons out of lemonade here. It’s a perfect chance for me to gain exposure. I can rip her top off or something. That way my match will be the highlight of the night! No one will take their eyes off it. Frank: As much as I’d like to see it, you’re still wrestling a girl… What that means to me is you’ve been gone too long. James Toreno: No no no, please just think about how much the ratings would go up if a girl has her top taken off! I would be an idol, an icon…everything I already am but from my point of view this could be positive. Frank: James… I don’t care if the girl has triple Zs and everyone loves it. That’s still not good enough for you. What would be more impressing to you…huge tits or a gifted athlete. James Toreno: Unless the gifted athlete has huge tits, I’ll go with huge tits. [Frank shakes his head and guides him towards the ring. He puts him in there with a sparring partner and they go at it. Within minutes the undersized spar partner has Toreno on the mat and pulling back on his legs. Toreno looks shocked as his arms flail in front of him. He catches onto the ropes and pulls hard enough to dive outside of the ring. From there he backs into the wall.] Frank: What the hell are you doin’!? James Toreno: There’s no way I’m going back in there! [Frank walks over, grabs Toreno by the pants and throws him under the bottom rope. The sparring partner returns to his relentless attack, but this time when he pulls James up he receives a poke to the eye and covers up. James goes for the rollup and grips onto the ropes. A man standing on the outside makes a quick count and James slides out of the ring.] Frank: Was that really necessary? James Toreno: Yes…yes it was. Now I’m fine. [The sparring partner wipes his eyes a bit and looks back at Toreno. He just laughs as Toreno tends to some of the weights.] [James finishes up his workout and cleans himself up a bit. He sets himself up in front of his camera as it begins to roll…] James Toreno: It’s that time again my fellow fans. I have come once again for your viewing pleasure as I know just how much all of you love to see me back. When you think of SCW, it’s hard not to envision me within the company, but it has been almost a year you’ve all gone without this gorgeous face. With that being so, I expect the anticipation to be high. Believe me I will not fail. However, some of the organization around me already has failed. They have me booked against a girl in my return match and then want me to face that other chump just because I put his ass on the mat? If I’d known dropping him like that would cause so much commotion I never would have done it. It was just my point…The talent, or lack thereof which they’re putting me in line with, is inexcusable. Ever since I tainted Riddick’s past have any of you even seen him attempt to rebel towards me? Because I feel as good as I look, and I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. James Toreno: With Riddick at my coattails, it should be an easy Rise to Greatness for me. Even there the title isn’t fitting. I already have risen to my potential. I’m already there. For me, facing him is more like a Slope Away From Stardom. While other people get the limelight, I have to dismantle the worst the roster has to offer. Well if that’s what they’re planning for me at the year’s biggest event then I won’t disappoint them. I’ll take my credit, move along with this month as quickly as possible, and then pick up where I left off before I teamed with Hudson. I don’t even have to remind any of you how badly that went. Tag Team Champions and the guy couldn’t hold his own paired with such a talent as me. I learned a lesson from it, so it wasn’t all bad. I can’t count on anyone but myself. When I’m at my best and alone with no one holding me back, I am always there at the pinnacle of this business. It’s time to return to form. All business, no excuses, I’ll climb right back up to where I was on that ladder. James Toreno: The first step is to successfully return. I believe I’ve already done that. Within my first two weeks not even having a sanctioned match, I’m already receiving good feedback. And despite being booked against the opposite sex, I still plan on making this Breakdown a memorable one on my highlight reel. Any of you who think I’ve lost a step or anything like that apparently hasn’t taken a look around in a while. I’m kind of a big deal. Whenever I leave, I come back stronger and better than ever. You can make a strong case that I’m going to be right back in top shape by the time the big show rolls around. Samantha will be the perfect warm-up that I need to continue my progress and get back into the feel of things. The Phenomenon will be back ladies and gentlemen. It’s all…a matter…of time. |
