OOC: Good luck Shorty! Out of My Way Nice try, come again. Out of Control has come and gone, and one thing has surely stayed the same. James Exeter remains on top of the world. It was an intense and fast paced affair, the Extraordinary Showcase match, but as has been the case since the middle of February when I made my return…. James Exeter walked out with the victory. Despite the idiotic ramblings of Reckless, despite the bold claims of Asher Hayes, and despite the unwavering will of Sarah Punche… none of them could keep up. But that isn’t really a fault of any of those individuals, no. It’s not a knock against them that they couldn’t keep up with the Extraordinary Champion… it’s just a glaring example used to prove my point every time I tell you all…that I’m better. I’m better than matches with low-card nothings like Daniel Ackart. I’m better than curtain jerking with three no-bodies that don’t deserve to be in the ring with me… hell, I’m BETTER than the SCW World Champion. You all know where I should be on the card. It’s not right at the top. It’s not in the middle. It’s all the way down at the bottom of the card, in the match labeled… MAIN EVENT. And it finally looks like someone has taken notice…. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The scene opens outside… it appears to be late at night, and we’re on a sidewalk… one that’s relatively empty. The street lights and the moon are our only illumination as we see a few cars drive by the road on the street we’re on. The camera shows us that we’re right outside a movie theatre. The brightly lit marquis at the top of the entrance shows us all the movies being played, and their show-times. We see titles such as “Harold and Kumar”… “Prom Night”… “Horton Hears a Who”…. Etc. The scene remains relatively quiet though. However it doesn’t last for long, because the doors open and a few people file out. Most of them are kids, in their teens. This makes sense considering that this must be a late show. A few more kids file out of the movie theatre before the exit remains silent… and then a familiar face comes walking out. It’s The Extraordinary James Exeter. He’s wearing a New York Yankees club-house jacket to protect him from the chilly night, and a pair of blue jeans. He’s got his hands in his pockets as he slowly makes his way out of the theatre. His brow is furrowed and he seems to be deep in thought as he slowly walks away from the entrance. Suddenly another familiar face emerges from within the movie theatre. This one is the face of Delia Adams. She’s got a bright, cheery smile on her face and she’s adorned in a black and pink form fitting sweater, as well as a pair of blue jeans. She runs towards Exeter and quickly leaps up over his back, and locks him in a side headlock! Delia Adams: “And Adams quickly locks Exeter in her patented side head lock!” Exeter grunts a little bit, instinctively grabbing hold of Delia’s hips as if he were about to shove her off of him and into the ropes, he doesn’t, though. Delia Adams: “And now Exeter is in quite the quandary! He knows that this is one of Adams’ most potent maneuvers and that it can be quite deadly, so escape seems like the best course of action! However, Exeter is surely enjoying that fact that his head is positioned precariously close to Adams’ boobs!” Exeter lets out a bit of a yelp at this and quickly pulls his head out of the side headlock. His face is beat red and Delia is laughing hysterically as Exeter breathes heavily. James Exeter: “That is not what I was thinking at all!” Delia Adams: “Sure, sure James! Your face tells the story perfectly!” James Exeter: “I-uh-well… I…” She punches him on the shoulder lightly, still wearing her bright cheerful smile. Delia Adams: “Oh you know I’m just kidding. Come on… what’s with you?” Exeter pauses for a moment, but then grins and shakes his head. James Exeter: “Nothing… I guess I’m just… well, not used to it is all.” Delia Adams: “Not used to what? Not used to ME yet? I can’t be that hard to get used to.” James Exeter: “…the first day we met, you and I raided a Fed-Ex warehouse. Our first date was going SKY DIVING, which nearly killed me… to be honest, this is the first normal thing we’ve done!” Delia looks at him blankly. Delia Adams: “This coming from someone who bets on Tasmanian devil fights, tried to buy CNN, and just a few weeks ago destroyed their mini-van trying to launch a boulder into a Burger King facility…” James opens his mouth and raises a finger as if to object… but only exhales. James Exeter: “Touche… touché…” Delia smiles victoriously and promptly moves forward, linking her arm with Exeter’s as the two keep walking towards the parking lot. Delia Adams: “So… did you like the movie?” James Exeter: “Yeah… it was hilarious.” Delia Adams: “Really? You didn’t seem to laugh all that much. In fact, you didn’t seem like you were paying all that much attention to it…” James Exeter: “What do you mean… of course I was paying attention to it.” Delia Adams: “Uh-huuuuuh. Sure you were. That’s why you’ve had this spaced out, nervous look on your face all day.” She grins as she playfully ribs him about his lack of concentration on “Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay” James Exeter: “I dunno what you’re talking about…” Delia Adams: “Oh come on James… you’re not that hard to read. Anyone that’s been around you when you’re in a normal mode knows that you make hilarious exclamations about what’s on your mind as things come to you, plus you’re nearly always wearing that confident smile that I really like. Today you’ve barely said anything… and your smiles have been few and far between. So come on, you can tell me… what’s on your mind?” Delia really did give him a warm smile after saying all this. It turned James’ face red as he undoubtedly enjoyed the level of attention Delia paid to him like this. It really was uplifting, and something he wasn’t used to. James opened his mouth to speak as the two finally reached Delia’s silver Pontiac Grand Am and get into it. James Exeter: “Well… I mean… it’s really complicated I guess. I just have a lot on my mind… and well… I really want you to like me…” Exeter blushes as he says this and Delia starts the ignition on the car. Delia Adams: “Oh please. For one, you know that’s not a problem. If I didn’t like you I wouldn’t be here with you right now… and for two, you know that’s not what’s been bothering you today. If you really don’t want to talk about it, I understand… but I feel like it’d be good for you to get to open up about things to someone.” James sighs and slumps into the passenger seat as Delia pulls out of the parking lot… before beginning. James Exeter: “Well… it’s just… you know wrestling’s my life, right?” Delia Adams: “Of course.” James Exeter: “Yes… and for the past… nearly seven years now on and off, I’ve devoted everything to it. I work, and have worked so hard to be able to keep up with those that are the best so that I can confidently say that I’m the best… and since I’ve come back to doing this, I’ve been doing it just as I’ve said. I’ve been going out there and displaying why I’m Mr. Extraordinary, putting on the best show anyone has ever seen… and all the while beating everyone in my path.” Delia Adams: “Alright… so what’s the problem?” James Exeter: “Well I’m the Extraordinary Champion. I’ve beaten everyone set in front of me, and have been complaining for a while now that I’m not in the main event, not the headliner… and now it looks as though I’m finally taking that step upwards. Finally taking that step to the top.” Delia looks very interested as Exeter pauses and looks at her. James Exeter: “And I’ve proven that the Extraordinary title is BETTER than SCW’s World title… that I’M better than the World Champion… but there are those that say until you HOLD the World Championship, you don’t get to make the claim that you’re better, you can’t say that you’re the best. And I look at my career in the past… and every time I’ve been ready to take this next step, every time I’ve been about to climb the next rung… I stumble. I choke, or I fall down. It’s happened to me so many times before. Seven years, and the Extraordinary Championship is the only major title that I’ve held. Now… I’ve been challenged by Xander Valentine. He is unquestionably the most dominant figure in Supreme Championship Wrestling history… that isn’t just taking the next step… that isn’t just climbing another rung on the ladder… that is taking an absolute leap straight up to the top. What if I’m still not ready for it? What if all this confidence I’ve been building up doesn’t mean anything? What if I go to take the next step, and fall right back down like I’ve done in the past, and worst of all… what do I say to redeem myself is all this DOES happen again? There’s silence for a few moments as Delia takes all this in. Exeter is now staring blankly out the windshield. Delia Adams: “See… doesn’t that feel a bit better?” James Exeter: “….yeah… I guess it does… sort of.” Delia Adams: “We’ve seen each other every day since we met, and that’s the first time you’ve actually been serious about something.” James Exeter: “Hey! Tasmanian Devil Fighting is serious business!” Delia Adams: “You know what I mean… but wow, that does explain why you’ve been so distant today…” James Exeter: “Yeah…” Delia Adams: “Well… from my point of view James, it seems like you’re treating things differently right now. You are pretty much a cocky bastard when it comes to your wrestling ability, and don’t even try to deny that…” James looks as if he was definitely about to say something, but was shut down before he could say it. Delia Adams: “What you usually do is just assume that you’re better than your next challenge, assume that it won’t phase you, and assume that because you’re MISTER EXTRAORDINARY…” She says this very mockingly… Exeter’s lip slants to a near frown at this. Delia Adams: “…that you’ll be able to beat whoever, wherever, whenever... and all because of the fact that you’re James Exeter.” He has no choice but to nod at this… it’s pretty much the truth. Delia Adams: “But now you’re taking a different approach. Instead of assuming things, you’re actually thinking about them, and it’s causing you to create doubt in yourself. That’s not really a bad thing because doubting yourself for a moment can lead you to correct flaws about yourself and you can become better for it… but what I think you’ve done is allow yourself to think… too much.” James Exeter: “Too much…?” The car stops moving, as we reach the outside of James’ apartment complex. Delia Adams: “Yeah… your thinking has created way too much doubt for your own good. You’re doubting your ability so much when you have really no reason to do so. I don’t think this new approach of yours is necessarily the wrong way to go about things… but I do think you need to realize just who you are, and why this ‘next step’ isn’t as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.” Exeter just sits with his mouth open a little bit… sort of stunned… James Exeter: “Wow… I um… just… I think you might be right…but how can you be sure about all that, Delia? How can you be so sure when I’m not?” Delia Adams: “Because, unlike you, I’ve gotten to see it from the outside, first hand. On the first day we met, all because you wanted to impress me, you leapt out of a tree, clung to the back of a truck, and swung down a zipline… this all before diving down a mail chute for a box that you had no clue the importance of. This all just to impress me. Much as I hate to say it, because I think you over glorify yourself… but that was Extraordinary.” The two of them sit in silence for a bit, Exeter taking this all in. She really was able to analyze him quite well… James Exeter: “Well… thank you Delia… thanks for that… I don’t know how you’re able to read me so well.” Delia Adams: “It comes with the territory. My job requires me to be able to read people effectively… that and I kind of like ya, so I pay close attention.” She adds a wink to the end of that sentence and Exeter finally smiles. James Exeter: “Well… I like you a lot too, Delia… I mean, I can’t remember the last time I liked someone this much.” Now it’s Delia’s turn to turn red… Delia Adams: “Heheh… well then it would seem that my actions have had the desired effect!” James Exeter: “Sure seems that way… heheh…well I better get in and get to bed here… I appreciate the ride. I’ll be sure to re-pay the favor once the Kinney Foundation sends me the damn key for my new Mini-van…” He says this as he’s getting out of her car. Delia Adams: “Oh don’t worry about it. I love driving, anyways.” James Exeter: “Heh… okay then. So… think I can see you tomorrow?” Delia Adams: “Unfortunately not… tomorrow I have a… well, mission as you might call it. Pretty tight lipped Government stuff… you understand.” James Exeter: “Aww… well don’t get yourself killed or anything. If you encounter any Rogue Mailmen, you let me know!” Delia Adams: “Alright, will do James. And I’ll definitely call you tomorrow night or something to wish you luck before Thursday!” James Exeter: “Okay! Take it easy Delia!” Delia Adams: “Byeeee!” With that, Exeter closes the door on her Grand Am and she pulls away. The two wave at each other as she drives off, leaving Exeter in the dark, to himself. He starts walking towards his apartment building, looking up at the sky. James Exeter: “Your best friend is a MULTI-millionaire… you’re dating a gorgeous secret agent… and you are the Extraordinary Champion. You’re James fucking Exeter. What in the HELL are you so worried about?” He says this all aloud to himself, before a wide, confident smile forms across his face. The scene fades to black. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ August 8, 2007. May 1, 2008. Two pretty innocent dates, no? One in the middle of summer, one in the middle of Spring, about 9 months apart. What do they have in common, apart from one letter and three numbers? For Shorty Jr, they are about to have a LOT in common. Because on both of these days, Shorty Jr. will have stepped into the ring with the most Extraordinary person alive. These are two days that NO ONE else will have a really strong memory for. No one else will ever say “Hey, you remember August 8th?!”. No one will ever have an anniversary for May 1st or remember anything in particular about it… But Shorty will. Shorty will see both of these days pass by on the calendar for the rest of his life and remember the fact that on both of these days, for at least the count of three, he was laying on his back in an exasperated daze as a referee’s hand slapped the canvas to signal that he had lost to the Extraordinary One. Now, when I had heard that Shorty was my opponent for Hostility, which I am again being called upon to save, I initially began to think of ways to prepare for this match. Needless to say, the first thing crossed off my list was “Buying a Shark to put in my best friend’s pool.” That didn’t go so well for me last time. Anyways, I ran through a few ideas and wasn’t coming up with anything when it hit me. I don’t need to prepare for this at all. I’ve already beaten Shorty Jr. HANDILY. And there is no reason for it not to happen again. Let’s think about this. Last Summer when I beat you, I was still relatively new to SCW as a whole. My second SCW match was at Rise to Greatness, and this was one of my very first singles matches with the company. Did it matter? No. I still knocked you all over the ring, out-classed and embarrassed you like I’ve done to so many others. This was NINE months ago. This was the un-focused James Exeter that didn’t have set goals, didn’t have ambition… and didn’t have the Extraordinary Championship. I am so much better than that James Exeter, Shorty, it’s ridiculous. Where-as you are still the same old perception lacking Shorty Jr. Dependence Personality Disorder? HAVE YOU BEEN PAYING ATTENTION AT ALL Dependent on Chad Evans? Dependent on Cid Turner? Dependent on Matt Hodges? DEPENDENT?! Matt Hodges, Cid Turner, and Chad Evans are all friends of mine. All of them are people I like, all of them are people I like to be around. But are they people I depend on? HELL NO. My greatest accomplishment to date here, nearly winning Taking Hold of the Flame in my first ever SCW Match… were any of them present for that? No. Chad Evans was eliminated by Shawn Winters before I got to the ring, and Matt wasn’t in the match. Cid hadn’t even come back yet. Beating the SCW World Champion Brian Kinney… do you notice who wasn’t in the ring when that happened? Cid Turner wasn’t there. Matt Hodges wasn’t there. Chad Evans wasn’t there…. JAMES EXETER WAS THERE. It appears that your brain has been knocked silly by the glass ceiling you’ve bumped your head into here. You see Shorty, you’ve had your chances. You’ve come up against the SCW Champion and you’ve failed. You’ve faced Xander Valentine, and guess what… you’ve failed. Where as I have already beaten the SCW Champion, and now… just like I broke that glass ceiling… I am coming up to the second one now. And in this Extraordinary path that I’m on, you are simply in the way, Shorty. Simply in the way. And when you’re in the path of an Extraordinary steam roller like myself, there’s a choice you have to make. You can either stand there and get flattened… or you can get out of the way. If I were you Shorty I’d skip Hostility and sit with your eyes glued to Grand Theft Auto IV. That’s a game you can actually win. |
