Help Removing a Virus

Not sure if any of you are familiar with this, but my main computer has been infected by a fake antivirus program called System Security. It pretty much stops me from opening anything, and it keeps prompting fake virus scans and telling me to pay for their protection program to delete the "viruses" it detects.

For those of you who do know this, I've tried everything to delete this. The virus won't allow me to open add/remove programs or system restore. I've downloaded other software to delete it, but it won't let me open up the software. I can't even open Windows Task Manager.

If any of you know any other methods of deleting this virus, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Ok so..

Malwarebytes should remove it for starters.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

It's free, with an option to pay. No need to. Install it, make sure the end boxes are checked for auto updates and auto run. Then use full scan. Walk away for 20 minutes, come back. Follow the screen instructions, restart. Good to go. Have a nice day. Stop surfing porn sites.

Hard as it is to believe, that wasn't the cause of it. I already downloaded that software but the virus won't let me open the software to run the scan.

best bet then is if you have a usb key, get access to a diff computer and download it on there. and run it off the key.

Hmm, I've seen that happen at least once or twice everyday.

Best method I've come to use is to simply rename it. Right click on the installer (Or if it's installed on the program) and just go to rename.

I like to put in things like "random1"

or "cheese"

It should be able to run from there. Unless the virus looks for a PID #, in which case I'll get back to you. Try renaming it first though.

I think I'm all set. The key was ending the System Security process. Windows task manager wasn't working, so I had to download something called Process Explorer, rename that, and then end the System Security task.

That allowed me to install the program Mark suggested (which I found on many websites to be a good program). Now it's currently running. I'll let you know if I can completely remove it.

Thanks for your help, and thanks for your concern, Cid.

Looks like it's all set. You know...it's funny. 2 hours of my father trying to help me by calling up does shit, but a google search and a post here helps me delete the virus myself.

No more looking at gay porn for me.
