Personally I love the fourth one and fifth one (Next Level and Pestilence) because there's something more happening in the background than it just being plain like the others. In most of mine I just layer brushes in the background to give the background something more than just being a large plain colour, or I use a stock background and then put brushes over the top of it so that it's slightly faded out (see the Christy Matthews and Nicholas Jaxx title banners for what I mean).![]() ![]() I suck at text and fonts (Jon made the Christy Matthews logo that goes in all her RPs, and the Jaxx logo on the title banner and layout is about the only thing I ever made that I liked for him text wise) but occasionally I stumble across background ideas I don't hate. Jaxx's old one had a Roulette wheel in the background, since it was a Vegas theme, and Christy's has an American flag, and both have pictures of the Las Vegas strip in the background just to liven them up a bit with brushes over the top (which, especially in the Jaxx one, gives it a kind of fuzzy/snowy look that I overuse, lol). The key thing for me is having SOMETHING in the background so it's not boring, but not making the background the focus. I learned in Uni when it comes to photos that blurring the fuck out of the background of photos so that whatever the FOCUS of stands out works best, for me I don't blur I tend to just fade. I also ALWAYS use borders for graphics that aren't forum blended. My edges ALWAYS either fade out or are clearly bordered, I've never been a fan of graphics that just stop but then that's just a random quirk of mine. I can't tell you what is socially acceptable or what other people like, but I knows what I likes and those is the rules I tends t' stick to! |

Ya, I think the 4th, 5th, and the purple one in your sig looks really cool. The other ones look a little too simple but they're still good ....I'm jealous of your fonts....... *pout*

oh yeah and the um Pest chick where the dude is behind her and there's like....a big red circle thing around them.....I think the concept is awesome but I think it would be greater without the red stuff:D maybe not so much noise? or maybe a different edge than using a circle/oval type thing? I don't know but I really like the idea of it. |

I like them a lot more now there's more to the background than just a solid colour, but I still think they need borders personally. As I said though that's a quirk of mine, I just don't like when a graphic just stops, I like things to all be contained. |

Very nice They're defiantly better. The last one looks alot better without the red bubble thing around it, lol. OOOH! You should put smoke rising up in the background of it or something cool like that! Erm.... >.< haha I'm going to shut up now, my mind is starting to overwork itself haha....should probably save it for writing a roleplay LOL

Did somebody secretly ninja-sneak the borders on there, or did my PC just randomly load older versions of the images earlier. I check now and hey-presto they all have borders and now I really like the Gable and Harmony ones especially, the white border around the blue/black for me makes it look fifty times better than with no border at all, and the white text/white border goes perfectly together. At uni I was taught about how the brain works when it comes to things that people like/don't like and the different ways we analyse things in order to make better designs. I'm desperately looking through my notes to found out what it's called but I cannot fucking find it. Basically we were shown series of images and told how we see them, and how that corresponds to good design. It's things like effective use of white space, everything being contained, everything being ordered so that logically we know where something belongs, using symmetry to help with good designs, using colours that contrast rather than clash... it was really awesome and would definitely help when it comes to banner making, but I can't think what the fucking rules were called. I'm sure there were 5-7, and all but one began with the same letter. I'm thinking 4 C's and an S but I can't find out what it's called. If anyone knows, that'd be awesome... |

No more brits damn it! <_< Not bad at all, though i'm not a fan of bevels myself. But that's just me though, I prefer drop shadows along with a 1 px stroke on fonts. |

Yes, he really doesn't like bevels! I try them from time to time on stuff I make and he always suggests I take them off again, and nine times out of ten he's right and it looks better with his suggestion than my original did. Damn him!

My biggest tip to you is make sure you erase entirely, and not to leave some of the hard edges. Like on your current banner in your signature, I can clearly see the bottom of Morrison's legs from where the original render had ended. and then I can see where the rectangle was for that British Flag you just used on the newest banner. Another golden rule you should follow for Forum Blended: The renders/PSDs should never extend past the text, only the background should extend farther down. There are a few other things that you could do to fine tune the banners, such as making the flow better between the background and PSD, but alas that is up to you to decide what you feel flows better. |
