THE WEEK BEFORE THE RETURN

"Do you think Supreme Championship Wrestling will welcome you back with open arms?"

The question offended Cid, and the jerk of his head and confused look on his face made it clear. He transformed the confused look into a half-assed smiled. How dare someone ask him - CID TURNER - such a question. Did they realize what they were asking and who they were talking to? Cid quickly got over it. He was just glad to have someone asking him SOMETHING and he was getting some form of attention after not getting any in quite awhile. It was actually extremely upsetting to Cid, though he would not admit that to many people. Now, thankfully, the cameras were on him.

Cid Turner: "Umm... of course they will."

Cid shrugged, still not sure why someone would even bother asking a question like that.

"Have---"

Cid Turner: "No, hold on, what a ridiculous question. What was even the point of that? You know who you're talking to, so why would you even ask that? I mean... come on, you know who I am."

THE NIGHT OF THE RETURN

It was fitting that the return would be in Canada. It's where it all started. The only way it could have been better was if it was in his hometown. Or maybe if it was where he started his second reign as SCW champion, a time he considered to be the best time of his life. However, that was in Texas, and he hated Texas. His biggest regret of his reign was that it didn't last forever. His second biggest regret was that he won it in a place like Texas instead of some place more extravagant, like in New York at Madison Square Garden or Los Angeles at whatever famous venue they have over there or... well, that was all he could think of. A return to Texas would have been great just because it would have been HIS return, but it would still be in Texas. The only way to make the return truly brilliant to him was if Greg Cherry had literally just won the title that very week and he had a mystery opponent that night. It would turn out to be Cid Turner, and the title is on the line! On top of that, Cid's mother would be the special guest referee and the bout would open the show!! What a way to kick off the night! Cid runs to the ring, climbs the turnbuckle, jumps off, and slams his foot through Greg's chest! There's blood everywhere! He goes back to the top rope... SHOOTING STAR! That's it! The cover, and Cid's mother counts! 1... 2... 3! Cid defeats Greg Cherry! Then the rest of the show would be dedicated to his return to glory and to the start of another brilliant reign and then, hopefully, this one would never come to an end...

Canada was okay though.

The scene opens right outside of the Air Canada Centre. A small camera crew are behind Cid, who is with his own crew of four men, who are responsible for carrying him to the ring. Cid is wearing his typical street wear (which includes a cape and a scepter), which obviously gets him a decent amount of attention. They are all at a different entrance area and Cid is negotiating with a security guard who is stopping him and his crew from entering the arena.

Cid Turner: "Okay, okay. One hundred US dollars. American money. It's from America. It's the land of the free! That's useful here, right?"

The dialogue becomes inaudible as Cid's voice over continues over the footage.

"I'm Cid Turner. Cidney F. Turner. Do you know how long I've been here? I've been here for like, a decade. I have been here since the beginning. Do you know how many different shows I've been through? How many titles, how many pay-per-views, how many matches I've seen in this place? SCW not throwing out the red carpet for my return would be like if Jesus was resurrected and the disciples or whatever just gave him a nod and said, 'okay, go on then'. It'd be blasphemy. Blasphemous."

Cid and the security guard finally come to an agreement and the guard lets the crew inside of the building. Cid grabs the guard's shoulders and leans in close.

Cid Turner: "Good things will come your way. You will be an important part of the King's court. I promise you this."

Security Guard: "What are you talking about?"

Cid Turner: "Go. Go prepare for the resurrection. I will send word when you are needed. Go!"

Cid lets go and takes a fancy bow before heading into the building with the camera. Cid and his crew go through a couple of doors and hallways before getting into the busy backstage area, the roar of the crowd getting louder the deeper he gets. He walks by anyone he passes without even shooting a look their way, but many of the backstage workers can't help but wonder why a man in a cape is roaming the halls with a group of cameras and a clan of men carrying a throne.

"No, they haven't returned my calls yet, but I'd like to think it's because they are preparing for what's about to hit them. This amount of bad ass takes some time to prepare for, you know. This level of awesome. That's why they haven't called me yet."

The camera follows Cid, shaking up and down as they all try to move swiftly.

"You can't rush greatness."

Cid eventually gets to the main stage. They stop in front of a stagehand and Cid's carriers drop the throne down, clearly getting a workout. Cid points back at them.

Cid Turner: "Toughen up! We are almost there! Earn your money! EARN YOUR MONEY!!"

Cid turns to the stagehand, who is almost frightened by his outfit and scepter. Cid snaps his fingers and one of his crew members hands him a CD case with a couple paper bills. Cid hands it off to the stagehand. Cid has to shout now to make sure he is heard over the crowd, which is right next to him at this point.

Cid Turner: "Sir! You have done a fine job tonight! I'm giving you a raise and a spot in my clan! Take those discs, take that fine American currency, and bring it to whoever controls the media for this television show! Bring it all to them! Tell them to play the video and the music and to improvise some pyro tricks and tell them that they are all getting a raise and that this is only the beginning! This is an uprising! A revolution! Long live the King! Go, go, go!"

Cid gives the man a push and sends him on his way. Cid raises his scepter and gives an excited victory yell and encourages his workers to join him.

"I was the King. I was the King of America and I was the King of everywhere else. I held the US title for like a year. Same with the World title. I held them both at the same time, actually. Did you know that? If you just combine both of those reigns, I was a champion for like... more years..."

Cid and his crew step up to the curtain that leads to the main stage. He takes a deep breath then turns to face everyone.

Cid Turner: "Stooges. Let us pray."

Cid bows his head and they all follow, including the camera. For several seconds, all we see are feet.

"I've done more for this place than anyone ever has. I gave my life for this place. Well... I would. I didn't, but I would. I might. I MIGHT give my life for this place at some point! All of us in this room right now, we're all going to change things again. Things are going to go back to the way they were... but better. Do you feel something? In your heart? In your stomach? You guys are on the right side. We're going to make history. SCW will want that, with the state they're in... from what I've heard, anyway. I don't watch when I'm not on."

The camera comes back up and Cid gets up on his throne. He struggles a bit but eventually gets up there and brings himself to his feet, standing on the throne. The four men bring him forward in front of the curtain and the camera gets behind them, getting a wide shot of them all together with Cid standing tall in the middle.

"They'll welcome me back. When I get that call, I bet you--- I'm telling you right now, they'll be begging. They want this voice back. They need it. They need... their King."

They all stand in front of the curtain... waiting... and waiting... the lights go out... and then...

Music.

BACK TO THE WEEK BEFORE THE RETURN

"Okay... I guess that's enough for today."

Cid Turner: "Okay. Well, that was fun! I love talking."

Everyone knew that already.

The cameras turned off and the "talking head" segment was done for today. The main people behind the camera were the Staff Brothers, Jack and Jeremy. They were directors. They were also brothers, obviously. They had only been directors for a few years, brothers for a little under thirty years. The brothers had approached Cid just a couple of weeks ago about a project they were working on. It was a documentary that was split up into different parts, each part focusing on a different wrestler. Cid didn't really listen to most of what they were telling him about the project. The thought of becoming a famous movie star was extremely exciting to Cid. So many people try it. They even go to school for it. Some people work their entire lives trying to break through as an actor, and here were two people approaching HIM about a part in a movie. He didn't even have to try! Of course, it wasn't really a movie. It was a documentary that was being made independently. Cid didn't pay any attention to that part.

Jack Staff, who was the elder brother by a couple of years, had spent his entire life loving movies. He loved them all, it didn't matter when they were made. Vintage movies, modern movies, they were all what he loved. He loved the entire world of film. He loved the behind the scenes part of it, maybe even more than what was actually played on the big screen. Interacting with famous people that everyone looked up to, brilliant actors, their assistants, the people who apply their make-up, and telling them all what to do as a director. The thought of all the things happening behind the scenes made movies even more exciting to Jack. In film, when two people are having an emotional conversation and the people portraying them are acting their hearts out, there is an entire crew surrounding them. All of those eyes of the crew in the room are on the two artists in the middle of it all, putting even more pressure on the actors. If the final product came out good, it would amaze Jack even more when he thought of what was going on during the time of filming.

However, it's tough work, being a director. Jack had studied film at USC for awhile before eventually dropping out. Ever since then, he's been working as a waiter in California and waiting for something to pop in his head that would catapult him into the big time. He wasn't very creative. Every time he even tried writing a screenplay, he would maybe write a page or two before giving up and watching more movies, hoping to find some sort of inspiration. He found a lot of inspiration in all sorts of films. Unfortunately for him, that inspiration only lasted a page or two as well.

Jeremy Staff had spent his entire life not caring about anything. Literally, his entire life. He came out of the womb, sighed, and said "whatever". He was the cliche annoying little brother, even though he was not that much younger than Jack. Most of his time was spent doing nothing. While he wasn't doing nothing, he would be playing video games or board games by himself, or maybe reading some comic books. Jack still cared for Jeremy for some reason and he helped him get by in school by tutoring him, even though it usually led to Jack just finishing Jeremy's assignments.

Jack went off to USC and Jeremy would eventually follow him. Since Jeremy wasn't really interested in anything but was told he needed to do something with his life, he figured he would just follow in the footsteps of his brother, hoping Jack would guide him through everything like he guided him through school. Jeremy was also Jack's roommate. Cid wasn't actually interested in their life story, but when they forced it upon him, this was his favorite part. It amused him. He imagined Jeremy whining, like a little brother would, to his mother that he wanted to do movie stuff too and that it wasn't fair Jack got to do it. So Cid figured she just told Jack to take his brother with him or something, which wasn't that far from the truth, really.

As for the documentary... inspiration had hit Jack and, as of right now, he still had it. He always enjoyed professional wrestling and looked at the behind the scenes of it all like behind the scenes of a movie or inside the locker room of a football team. He originally wanted to get a group of wrestlers that were in the prime of their careers, but he wasn't sure if he had the connections to start a project like that up, and he was also worried that they would all be egotistical assholes, so he stayed away from it. That idea evolved into the project that was currently underway, Untitled Retired Wrestlers Project (tentative title). It was much easier to get ahold of fading stars that were probably looking for more attention now that their career was coming to an end, so they went for a project focusing on retired and retiring wrestlers. The subjects of the documentary were already selected.

There was a man who was just in the process of walking away from the business after decades of being in pro wrestling. This portion of the story would focus on a man leaving something he's done all of his life and his plans for the future.

The second subject had been retired for many years, isn't doing well financially, and reportedly has a problem with painkillers. A more depressing part of the story, this portion would focus on the darker aspects of the business, from companies not paying their stars what they deserve to the possible repercussions of choosing wrestling as a career choice.

The final subject was Cid Turner, who had been semi-retired but is now looking to get back into wrestling, not as a manager but as a competitor. This part of the story would either be a very uplifting experience or it would have a downer ending. Cid would either make a successful return or fail trying.

Cid got up and stretched.

Cid Turner: "That's hard work!"

Cid had only been sitting there for about fifteen minutes. He went into the kitchen to get a water bottle while Jack was fiddling with the camera. Jeremy clapped his hands and started rubbing them together, excited that the project was officially underway.

Jeremy Staff: "This is incredible! We're gonna be just like the Cone brothers!"

Jack sighed.

Jack Staff: "Coen. You mean the Coen brothers."

Looking around Cid's apartment, you could tell he had not been spending his money well. While it was not terrible by any means, it isn't what you would expect from someone who is a "hall of famer", especially compared to the last house that Cid was living in. It had a living room, a kitchen, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms, which he thought sounded good on paper until he actually moved in. The fact that he was living in an apartment instead of a house was embarrassing to him, but with how cheap the rent was, he didn't have to work much, which was good because he very rarely got jobs to compete. When he did, the pay was usually minimal, which is what you would expect when the venue is a school gym. On top of that, the business he had started up in Denver wasn't getting him as much money as he had hoped.

Cid came back with some water and looked out of the window. The view wasn't great. Right outside was the public pool, which wasn't that bad, but it was made worse by the gigantic tree right next to Cid's balcony on the second story. The highlight of Cid's week usually came when a girl was out by the pool trying to get a tan.

Cid Turner: "Hey, I noticed that everyone besides me in this movie is like, a dying star. That's some depressing stuff. Good thing you have me to lift some spirits. If you're looking for has-beens, you should talk to my old friend Greg Cherry. That'd be some sad footage. Brutal."

Jeremy Staff: "Good lord, why do you talk about him so much?"

Jeremy's brother gave him a hard smack on the chest, signaling that he should shut up. Jeremy was taken by surprise by this, but shrugged it off. Meanwhile, Cid was caught off guard by the question and was frozen by the window. He snapped out of it and cleared his throat.

Cid Turner: "... he's just so easy to mock."

In reality, Cid wasn't even one hundred percent sure why he talked down to people or said bad things about them behind their back. Maybe he did it to feel better about himself, maybe he enjoyed being mean just to see the reaction he would get, or maybe he was just bored and it was fun to him. The Staff Brothers figured he had a secret crush on Greg. Whatever the reason, because of him continuing to put down people, he felt as if his trash talking skills couldn't have diminished that much. He always enjoyed promoting his match by telling his opponent and everyone watching that they were terrible and he wasn't and the fight that was going to occur might as well not even happen, whether he believed what he was saying or not. Although he wasn't sure if he was doing a good job promoting the actual event by saying his opponent wasn't even a challenge, but whatever. As he stood there, he imagined who his opponent would be in his first match back and how much joy it would bring him telling them how much they suck...

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18

Cid Turner: "Fans! Hello. It feels like it has been a hundred years since I've had a chance to speak to you face to face like this."

Cid was in a badly lit hotel room, standing in front of a wall, with most of his upper body showing. It was the night before Breakdown and Cid thought it would be best to send a message to his fans that he would be sending a FUTURE message tomorrow night during Breakdown.

Cid Turner: "The good news is, I am back and I think I'm back for good. That's right, I'm not just going to leave after I get my first paycheck! Of course, you're probably thinking that I haven't gotten my first paycheck yet so you may be unsure, but you can trust me. I am here and I'm here to stay. Even better news, I am now a movie star, so add that to the list of great things I have done with my life. You should be able to see that the production value of my video has changed for the better and that's because I am currently living inside of a movie."

Jack Staff (off-screen): "Documentary."

Cid Turner: "Yes. Correct. I am officially an official documentarian of the United States, so now I have professional directors helping me and telling me what to do to make my product even better, if that's even possible. It's good, it's like a different feeling, but it's a good feeling. Anyway... the last time you all saw me was a couple years ago I believe when I came back for like a month to help my good friend Chad Evans out with some problems he had. I may have returned at some point after that as well, but to be honest, I have been out of it so if I did return, I have no memory of it but I am sure it was a great event. This time, though... this is different. I'm back! Like, officially! I'm not going to be in a corner or anything, I'm going to be inside of the ring. King Turner has returned to make things right again."

Cid teaches off-screen and picks up his crown. He puts it on and sets it straight and focuses back on the camera.

Cid Turner: "There. Now, during my absence, it looks like my kingdom has fallen apart. I guess I should not be surprised, I have not been here full time in a few years, so it isn't a total shock that nearly everything is going to hell, especially because I didn't really appoint a substitute to sit in my place for me while I was gone. So, the peasants ruled the kingdom, the inmates ran the asylum, and the animals took over the zoo. Up until this week, we quite literally had a Canadian as the champion of the United States. Upon hearing this news, I shed a tear for what was once considered a lovely little title. Thankfully an Evans put an end to that unfortunate reign, though it wasn't the Evans we all had hoped for, was it? Now, even though an American is the United States champion, I will still refer to myself as the King of America because that title is mine and will forever be mine. If the other Evans wishes to be a... prince, I guess... and keep America's title warm for me, then I suppose I can allow that for now while I am busy with other things. So, James Evans, make your country - and more importantly, me - proud!"

Cid stands up straight and respectfully salutes to James Evans before continuing.

Cid Turner: "Now, as for the rest of the world, I see Shawn Winters is in charge of that department as he is champion of the planet earth. I would comment on that further, but I refuse to give any more attention to that spotlight stealing... uh... thief. I still have not forgiven him for coming back during my holy reign as champion and trying to steal the time that I had earned by beating everyone on the roster and becoming the great KING that I was. He's a thief, he's too arrogant, from what I have heard he is unpleasant to be around and he is also bossy as well, and he is still a thief on top of those other things. So, Shawn Winters, I hope you burn in hell for what you have done to me and I hope that you retain your title at Under Attack just so that I can beat you for it at a later date and rub it in your face until the day that you die. Now that I have said my piece on that subject, it's time to move on. Something caught my attention last week."

Cid moves towards the center of the room and the camera follows him. He stops and stands next to what looks like four paintings on stands in the middle of the room, each one covered by separate white sheets. Cid gestures toward them.

Cid Turner: "Beneath these sheets is something truly terrible. Lift the veil and you would see something that represents the worst part of Supreme Championship Wrestling. The thing I noticed last week was... when I was talking to all of my fans on live television, I couldn't help but notice that I was viciously assaulted by a Foxx and left lying in the ring like I was some sort of joke, like I was a complete idiot! The Foxx that attacked me was none other than Julie Foxx..."

A cough comes from behind the camera, followed by a snap. Cid quickly looks up and then back to the camera.

Cid Turner: "No! Rachel! I was attacked by Rachel Foxx! Who's the other one? There's another one, there's three of them, right? Trish? Terra? No, Trista. That's it. The Foxx Sisters. I remember you guys! I mostly remember the other ones, but I kind of remember you. You were the little one, I think. I don't know. The saddest thing about this all is that I have been around long enough to remember there's more than one of you. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people watching right now don't even know what I'm talking about, but you do! Little Foxx, I am glad you were able to branch out and make a name for yourself. As someone who has been in the business with a sibling, I know exactly what you were going through. It's always interesting trying to break out on your own, without your partner, or partners, in crime. After I was being held back by my brother - seriously, he was like dead weight, it was tough trying to drag him everywhere - I decided to try and focus more on competing by myself and trying to get my name out there. I even joined a little group so I could get a bit of a boost from them as I headed for the top of the mountain. I forget if you were around here back then, but if you were, then you might remember. Yes, the good old days when I was with Jay Gold, among others that I truly can't remember because they never did anything after pushing me to the moon. A good example of failing to break out on your own would be those that I used as stepping stones to make it to where I am today... but the best example of succeeding in breaking out as a superstar by yourself is me! I started out as a wacky little idiot and turned into what you are looking at this very moment... a living legend."

Cid gives the camera a cheesy grin and points at it before moving on.

Cid Turner: "Now, you... ehh. I don't know. You haven't done much, compared to me at least... but it's not really fair to compare anyone to me, is it? I mean, it's cool that you ditched the sisters, but it doesn't really seem like you have taken full advantage of that freedom. How are your sisters, by the way? How did you abandon your 'luggage'? I remember one day I just left my brother at a train station to try and get rid of him. I took his bags too. He ended up taking the next train but he was still mad so my work did not go to waste. Did the sisters get pregnant? If I were you, I would have done some dirty work - emphasis on the dirty - and made it so they, very mysteriously, were carrying children inside of them one day. Let me know what they're up to!"

Cid's eyes wandered off a little bit and he was eventually spacing out as he thought about what he had just said and imagined it all in detail. He was disturbed that he even thought of that. He quickly shook himself out of it.

Cid Turner: "Anyway... I am kind of proud of you, Little Foxx. Even though I think I might hate you for ruining my moment back in the spotlight, it was very brave of you to attack me. It makes me furious, actually... but I can't help but be proud because you are at least trying to do what it takes to become a big deal around here. If I were in your sexy, shiny heels and tight, hip hugging skirt, not only would I probably look in the mirror even more than I already do, but I would have done the exact same thing! If a true hero like Cid Turner was in the ring and I wanted to make a name for myself, I would definitely go out there and beat the hell out of him. So I guessed you have impressed me a little bit... but I am afraid you are going to have to pay for what you have done. You have rebelled and committed treason against your King. I regret to inform you that this Sunday at Under Attack, you will be executed for your crimes. I'm not actually threatening to murder you in the ring but I do plan on beating you to a pulp. Now, if we were back several years, I probably would have taken it a little easy on you. You know, pull some punches, soften some blows, loosen some holds... stuff like that. However, I am a changed man and after seeing what has happened to this company, things have to change and I have to make a statement, but if it means anything, I truly am sorry that it has to be you that is on the receiving end. I'm going to make an impact on Sunday, but the true mission begins tomorrow night on Breakdown. The four objects behind me will be revealed to the world and I will state my mission to you and everyone else. Enough is enough, and it's time for a change. After the Foxx ruined my TV time, I called the appropriate people and was granted some more time to speak on Breakdown, and they made the right choice! I will not be silenced and I will talk when I deserve to talk. The revolution begins tomorrow night and you are all invited! Little Foxx... I love you, and goodnight."

Cid walks up to the camera, grabs it violently, and gives it a big kiss as a sign off.

BACK TO THE WEEK BEFORE THE RETURN

Cid couldn't think about the future for too long though. SCW still wasn't returning his calls and he was worried that they never would. If they didn't, Cid would be embarrassed and it would all be on video tape. Really, all they had so far after a little under a week was over twenty hours of Cid talking about how great he is and a fair amount of footage of Cid eating, but... Cid was getting worried. In his mind, it was a possibility that they would rip his contract up in front of him and set all of the footage they had on fire because he had wasted their time. It would be a disaster and he wouldn't have anyone paying attention to him anymore. No. This can't happen. He had to do something.

Cid turned from the window and stared at the entire crew in his living room...

Cid Turner: "We're going to crash the show."
