3) Raven, I didn'tt really appreicate Raven until I started watching the early TNA stuff to be honest. Then I looked back at all the old WCW and ECW stuff and he really was amazing.

Totally. Raven's feud with Jarrett in 03 was awesome.

::Starts jabbing Olek in the chest::

You're just lucky ... you were smart enough ... to genuflect for the King!

I never got to see "Handsome"/"King" Harley Race except in a few old clips, but if he had a mic style like say, JBL or Hansen? I DEFINATELY would have been a fan, I'm sure. That one time in Piper's Pit that I just quoted was the only time I've ever really heard him speak, and by then, he had Bobby doing all the talking for him, anyway.

And does voting for Jericho count as a vote for Bockwinkle? 'Cause that's who Jericho is modeling himself after these days with the whole 'clean, crisp, eloquent' persona.

This is probably one of the best examples of why I think Harley Race is so underrated yet so good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XBbdh1HHKc

So quiet, so brooding and so convincing that he could kick your ass and carve you up without breaking a sweat and this was at a time where most people hollered and yelled in their promos.

In no particular order..

* CM Punk. In the modern era he is the model of consistency. I will watch Raw to hear Punk speak. Once he's "gone" there is no one else on the show I want to hear speak.

* Mick Foley. His Anti-Hardcore promos are promo gold. Period.

* Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Cut solid Face & Heel promos Honorable mention goes to everyone he influenced, from Raven on down.

* Ric Flair. His intensity. Especially these days. He's a wrestling gawd, gawd, gawd.

* Chris Jericho. Whether he was comedic or uber monotone, he nailed it.

--

Honorable Mentions:
-The Rock. Sometimes I didn't like the content of his promos but his charisma kept me glued to the seat.

-Steve Austin, Pre What era. Check out his ECW shoots. They were golden.

- Triple H can cut some damn good promos, I wasn't a fan of his DX stuff, especially towards the end.

- HBK. He kept me glued to my seat.

- Paul Heyman. Hearing him speak... wouldn't miss it.

- Brain Pilliman. Shame he died early. His Loose Cannon gimmick was highly believable. And if you read Jericho's book he said Pillman gave him the advice to stand out.

- Can't forget.. Jim Cornette. Agree or disagree with his content. He was always entertaining.

- And one more. Vince McMahon. If he shows up on Raw tonight I'm watching. Period.

- And because no one mentioned these two. ECW Taz... and.......... "The Franchise" Shane Douglas.

Heyman - You took Taz... TAZ.. and you ruined him.. you turned the Human Suplex Machine.. into a commentator... and not even a very good one at that.

Ok. That, was officially awesome. Like Jake Roberts without all the chilling undertones. All Race had to do was sit there, hold up the belt, and make it very clear that everyone from Ole, to Flair, to Patterson, they could all rant and rave, but the bottom line was: HE was the one holding the belt. HE was the World Heavyweight Champion.

I'll DEFINATELY be trying to find an even merge between that, and Austin's intensity for Mitchell in the near future.

Now although I wasn't born during his time, I think someone who was very underrated is Rick "The Model" Martel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R6HDV7l-RY&feature=related

I mean seriously he was awesome. If Arrogance was an actual cologne I would seriously buy it lol. But seriously I love his style in his promos. He made you believe that he was an actual arrogant model, which is the main inspiration for ASP's "Trendsetter" persona. It's a shame Martel wasn't a big name in WWF like he was in AWA because he was just great!

However I also know that when Cena isn't trying to make third grade jokes and when he's actually cutting a serious promo, he's one of the best in WWE.

I am shocked anyone would say that, unless you mean back when he was a heel years ago

nowadays his serious promos with his serious tone make me want to turn the TV off and never turn it on again

Personally I hate the Cena character and his recent promos. Another person that is becoming great on the mic is Cody Rhodes. Now everyone will tell you I'm a big Cody Rhodes fan, been since his Legacy days. But I think this year he has taken his game(both on the mic and in ring) to a new level and I think he's on the brink of super stardom.

Cena back when he was the Prototype was actually a very entertaining promo; he plays an arrogant prick incredibly well. Unfortunately his writers are becoming more and more idiotic and recently it's reached the point where Cena can't even be taken seriously any more. According to Cena, Del Rio was a punk who couldn't defend the title and was nothing more than a paper champion that he'd defeat with ease. Then they fought for over twenty minutes and Cena actually had difficulty putting Del Rio down. The result? Cena's even more of a paper champion because if Del Rio's such a joke, why was he so hard to beat?

As for my top 5, in no particular order they are:

Chris Jericho - Probably my favourite promo of all time is the "Man of 1004 holds" speech. It was stupid and goofy, but it got over Jericho's character, hyped the feud and made me laugh in a way that didn't take away from the wrestling.

Jim Cornette - In my opinion the best manager of the 20th century, Jim could not only cut a killer promo, but rarely if ever flopped while on the mic. Go watch a Midnight Express promo and be amazed.

The Rock - I was never a huge Rocky fan, but credit where credit is due, nobody could do what he could do on the mic or take a character that everybody despised and turn it into one of the most entertaining parts of Raw.

Arn Anderson - "What?" I hear you say, "The OTHER Horseman? What about Flair?" Well, Flair was intense, but he suffered from that same problem as Randy Savage and Ultimate Warrior; he had a habit of going into another world and just screaming gibberish with an occasional "WOO!" thrown in. With Anderson you had a guy who would cut a powerful promo that would incorporate the current angle, past continuity and characters and make it all the biggest deal in the universe. And he'd do it without raising his voice once.

Roddy Piper - Coconut. Changing Questions. Nuff Said.

Felt like bringing this thread back lol.

Another guy that is great on the mic right now is someone people probably don't know. He's in FCW right now, which is of course WWE's development fed. Anyways if you guys get the chance, Youtube the name Dean Ambrose and you'll see what I'm talking about.

There's a reason why he's consider the best prospect in FCW right now. Not only can he wrestle(see his match with Seth Rollins or with Regal) but man can he talk. His character is so unique; it's like a mix of Piper, Raven, Joker(Dark Knight) and even some Pillman; which is one hell of a combination. I can't wait for him when he eventually does make his WWE debut and hopefully they keep his character too.

Dean Ambrose is a beast. His match with Seth Rollins, the 30 minute Iron Man match, was pretty intense. Also his match with CM Punk that took place at an FCW event, was pretty great too.

If used right, Dean Ambrose will go far in WWE.

Yeah I agree. His stuff even before WWE was great. His promo on Danielson when he was in Dragon Gate USA was just awesome.

I normally don't take anyone's opinion that isn't Olek to seriously. I checked out Ambrose.. I approve. Olek also approved. As he put it. "The only good thing to come out of CZW"
