In a more-than-decent hotel room a little over an hour after Breakdown has gone off the air, Bree and Blake sit at the table near the window, enjoying a late dinner courtesy of room service – chef salads with white wine. Might sounds like an odd combination, but it worked. The hotel server has just left, and the two pick up their conversation that was interrupted by the delivery.
“But seriously, can you believe Katie's nerve? Trying to get you banned from ringside but not her friends.”
“Doesn't surprise me. But that's not going to happen. You heard Evans. Either no one is out there in anyone's corner, or we all are.”
“Do you think Sienna will bring someone in her corner, too? To keep it even? I mean, Katie has Gigi and TJ. You're good, but you can't be in two places at once.”
“Doubt it. Regan on a rampage and Selena is too busy trying to kiss Regan's ass to worry about Sienna. Always expect the unexpected... we'll see.”
Bree nods as she has a bite of her salad. This match that started as Sienna Swann looking to be a fighting champion had turned into something of a clusterfuck, thanks to Katie's mouth and her friends' antics. Blake hadn't even wanted to be ringside, and had said so for the world to see on Twitter. “I know you didn't want to get involved. But thanks for having my back.”
“I didn't. It was supposed to be about you three women and who will be the better woman that night to become Women's Champion. That changed when TJ showed willingness to get involved in things he shouldn't be involved in. This is a big opportunity for you and I am not going to sit back and watch you get screwed over. You don't have to thank me for that.”
Bree smiles over her wine glass. “I know. But I do anyway.” She sips at the wine, then sets the glass down. “Especially since you have other things to be concerned with, since you decided to tale your sister's place in the battle royal.”
“More like she talked me into it. But she's right, I do need it more. Got to start making a statement somehow.”
“Except that you also decided you weren't going to actually make a statement.”
“Don't feel the need to talk about it. Get to the ring, do my thing. See what happens. Let everyone else argue over it. Besides, you know where I plan on making a real statement.” Blake gives her a smirk as he forks some salad into his mouth.
Bree nods, a little grin on her face. They had avoided talking about their VWA match as much as possible, but every now and then references slipped out. This time it was his turn. “I know.” They both sip at the wine, and Bree pointedly changes the subject. “I'm just glad you're entering. Sometimes I think SCW forgets you're on the active roster.”
“It happens. Don't worry about me, focus on your match. Let me worry about me.”
Another grin, as Bree swallows her last bite of her salad. “Deal.” She washes it down with the rest of her wine, and sits back in the chair. “Hopefully with everyone out there ringside those two... cheap-shot artists will just watch and the three of us can have a clean match. I don't want there to be any controversy if I win.”
“When you win. And neither do I. That's why I'll be there making sure they stay out of it.”
Bree just smiles again, and gets up from the table, putting her plate from the salad back onto the cart, to be picked up later. She stretches her arms over her head, and pulls her hair out of its elastic. “Think I'm gonna grab a shower, unless you wanted to go first?” Blake shakes his head. “Okay. I won't be long.”

Bree heads towards the bathroom, starting to pull her shirt over her head on the way. Focus on her match, huh? Easier said than done. She wasn't usually very successful in multi-person matches. She'd only ever won one, a triple threat, over a year ago. Sure, she had beat Katie already, but she'd never fought Sienna, and Sienna was good. As Bree showers, she tries to formulate a game plan in her head, but doesn't get very far. She was still upset that Amy was mad at her, and she had two title matches on consecutive nights, one of which against the man she was sharing this room with. She knew it had to be weird for him, too. Fighting her one night, backing her up in her corner the next.

Focus on her match.

Sure.

{{Friday, May 27th
Toronto}}

Mid-morning and Bree has already been up for hours. She's excited about today, and not even the tension between she and Amy can bring her down. Yesterday, just as they were getting settled into the hotel here for pre-Flame promotion, Bree got a call from the SCW agent she and Amy dealt with concerning appearances, booking, scheduling, and the like. SCW had lined up an event at a local hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children (which Bree asked if that was actually the name of the place; it is), where a few SCW stars would go there today and meet with some of the kids who were in-patients there. Staff had asked them what SCW star they'd most like to meet, from a list that SCW made available to them (since obviously some people would be doing other events, fan meet & greets, interviews, etc), and a few had requested Bree. First she was surprised, and then she was excited. She asked the agent who else would be going, but she said other than Amy, she didn't know, as there were other agents.

Presently, Bree is waiting downstairs in the hotel lobby, waiting for Amy to meet her. She had gotten a different hotel here in Toronto than she usually did when they were here for VWA. Bree thought it was a bit strange, but figured it had to do with Amy still being upset with her, and not wanting to be in the same hotel as her. She didn't plan on asking, at any rate. Bree was determined to make this day go as smoothly as possible, and bringing anything up about personal things was not going to help that along.
The cab ride to the hospital was mostly silent, other than Amy asking if Blake was coming, too. He wasn't, he was at some other event, Bree wasn't sure what, he'd left while she was in the shower.

On arrival at the hospital, Bree and Amy head to the nurses station they were told to report to, and asked for the staffer in charge of the SCW event. A CNA heads off to find said person, while Bree and Amy wait, in more silence. Amy has her nose in her phone, leaving Bree to wonder who she's texting so seriously. Again, she was not going to ask. Bree leans on the desk, watching the back area for the person they were needing to see to come out. Lost in her thoughts, she's pulled out of them by a familiar voice.
“Small world we live in, isn't it?”
Bree looks to her side at the source of the voice, and grins, amused. Of course she would run into Ace Marshall here. What kid wouldn't want to meet him? Ace gives both Bree and Amy a little two fingered wave.
“Apparently.”
Amy returns the two-fingered wave, somewhat mockingly. Ace has the TV Championship belt with him, draped over one shoulder for ease of carrying. He looks around the room, as if looking for anyone else from SCW there. He seems to feel out of place. “I probably took a wrong turn, this doesn't look like much of a burger joint.”
“II'm sure the cafeteria is decent. Kids like burgers.” Bree grins.
“I'd watch the junk food if I were you. Might slow you down trying to get that World Title." Amy offers, smirking.
Ace glances down at the belt on his shoulder before widening his eyes in shock, as if remembering it's there. He looks back to them coyly. "The moment I don't do my part to eat a cow in a day is the day I retire, it's the only thing keeping this belt on me." He slaps the name plate cheerfully. "Supposedly this is the title to test one's endurance in seeing how far one can go. How long can either of you go?" He sticks a dimple out and squints his eyes quizzically at the pair.
"As long as it takes." Bree seems to take the question entirely too seriously.
Amy basically ignores her. "At least forty minutes, apparently. Shame it still wasn't enough. Good luck though. I'd love to face you for it when I win the battle royal."

The hospital staff lady returns with two slips of paper, politely interrupts, and hands them to Amy and Bree. Amy glances at hers, and waves it in the air. "I'm gonna go find my 'kids.'"
Ace looks between the two of them with shifty eyes and a bit of bewilderment as Amy leaves the two of them alone. "I am only sad in how I wasn't even remotely talking about wrestling matches but I am a perv so just ignore me.”
Bree grins, amused. "I know you weren't. Neither was I, not specifically.
“Sorry if this is none of my business, but is there something going on with you and Amy? She seemed to basically ignore your presence."
The grin fades “Don't mind her, she's... a little ticked at me, and in a bad mood in general." She shrugs as if its no big deal, but the look on her face says otherwise.
Ace glances down before shrugging. "Sorry, that sucks. I know how that can be. If it helps I still less than three you." He crosses his arms. "And you know, when I win the SCW Championship, I was just thinking we should celebrate in a totally 'we're both taken and can't have crazy sex but can have fun' sort of way."
Bree laughs. "Less than three, huh? That's cute. Sure you want to celebrate with me? I mean, wouldn't your girlfriend not appreciate that? Speaking of... where is she, anyway?" She says with one hand propped on her hip.
"Which one?" Ace appears puzzled, and Bree isn't sure if he's joking or not. She raises an eyebrow.
"The one who needs a cheeseburger."
"Oh well, she's busy/" He says, turning his head to the side while lifting an arm to rub at the back of his head. "As long as we're sharing... where is your boyfriend?"
Bree's eyebrow stays raised, and perhaps goes a tiny bit higher. ".... Busy. Some other thing SCW sent him to. Which honestly was probably a good idea on their part, considering your presence."
Ace smiles innocently before shrugging once more. "I do seem to get on people's nerves, is it the amazing good looks and charming personality?"
Bree crosses her arms, already smirking because she knew her comment would likely annoy him. "Funny, I thought that's why he got on people's nerves." She glances down at the list in her hand, as the staff lady comes back with the one for Ace.
Ace laughs. "Yeah we'll go with that." He takes the piece of paper and he silently gulps to himself.
Bree waves her paper in the air. "Probably shouldn't keep these guys waiting. I'm gonna go hunt them down. Try not to corrupt them, okay?" She says while waving a finger at his list.
"Their precious souls are safe in my hands." He gives her another wink. "It's terrifying you know? I am the last person who ever expected to have children making a final wish to see me."
"You're an entertainer. They want to be entertained. I mean... look at this place." Bree looks around at the gloomy painted walls, then back at him. "I guess that's why these asked for me. Cheering up. It's cool to be able to do it one on one instead of just in front of a large crowd."
Ace glances down at the list, appearing sad none the less. "Yeah, you're right. Let the entertainment begin."
"Don't look so worried. It'll be fine." She flashes her trademark smile, and waves as she turns towards the hallway her paper indicated. "I'm sure I'll see you later."
Ace smiles and gives her his two finger wave. Adjusting the SCW Television Championship on his shoulder he turns before making his way down the opposite hallway.

Bree shakes her heads as she watches him go down the other hallway for a second, then continues on her way. Ace seemed upset about something, which struck her as odd for someone who had one title and would soon be fight for another one. Hm, she thinks to herself. She was in roughly the same position, even if the title she had was in a different company. She supposed it didn't matter, if she felt just as down and maybe... nervous, about it as Ace seemed to her. The VWA title match would be the hardest one she'd fought yet, not because of the match type, or the fact she was defending a title she'd only just won back, but because of who she was facing. And in SCW, the Women's Championship wasn't something she had expected a shot at or even thought she wanted, but now that it was a reality, she did want it. And it would be just as hard, or actually probably harder, since she was fight two people instead of one.

With a sigh, Bree pushes these thoughts out of her head and looks down at her list. The first one was a boy, Carson, in room 240. There was a brief paragraph of information about him. Carson was five, and was here because he'd been injured in a car accident with his mom. The accident had broken several vertebrae in his back, and he was currently paralyzed from the waist down. He was here because he'd just had an operation last week, and was going through recover and rehab to try and get him back on his feet. Doctors were hopeful the paralysis would be just temporary. Bree sighs again. That was pretty rough for anyone to deal with, much less a five year old. She sees the room, 240, and the door is slightly open. Well... here goes. She knocks, and a female calls out.
“Yes?”
Bree pushes the door open and walks inside hesitantly. “Hi... I don't know if you know me, but-”
A little boy, with blonde hair and glasses, sitting in a wheelchair, rather than the bed, lights up. “I know who you are! Mom, look, its Bree! She really came! They said, but I didn't think it was for real! Awesome!”
Bree can't help but smile at the kids enthusiasm. “You must be Carson! They told me all about you. I'm happy to meet you!”
Bree extends her hand out to the kid, and he shakes it, as vigorously as a five-year old can. “That's me! Did they tell you I walked today?”
Bree opens her mouth in an O of surprise, and squats down to be on his level. “No! They sure didn't! That's awesome! They did tell me what happened to you, though, and I'm proud of you, I bet you tried so hard to do it, and it worked.” Bree notices Carson's mom watching and listening, a hand over her mouth to keep quiet. This was for her son, not her. Bree gives her a small smile.
Carson nods, all seriousness. “I did! They said it would be hard, and I might not make it today, but it was important that I tried my best, because even if I couldn't do it today, the more I tried, the better I would get, and one day I would do it.”
“That's right, you always have to try your best with everything. Hard work and not giving up the best way to get everything you want from life.”
“That's what Mommy said. So, even though I was tired, and it kinda hurt a little... I did the very best I could, Bree! And I did three steps! Mommy had to catch me after that, but that's okay. Cause I did it!”
“That's so amazing, Carson. You're so brave. It's easy to give up when you're tired or hurting. I know, I've done it. But you didn't. And you're so lucky that you have your mom right there to catch you when you need it. I can tell you love each other a whole lot.”
“My Mommy is the best! Did you know she pulled me out of the car before it caught fire?”
Bree looks up at Carson's mom in surprise. She just nods, sadly. “I didn't know that. But I see where you get being so brave from.”
Carson smiles, and looks back at his mom, giving her a smile, too. Bree wonders what the circumstances of the accident were, but she doesn't ask, Mommy seemed really upset about it and Bree wasn't here to make people upset. She was here to cheer the kids up. Carson turns back to Bree and is back to being as serious as a kid can get.
“Did you get being brave from your mom?”
“Who, me? I'm not all that brave. I just do what I have to do.”
“Isn't that what being brave is? Doing what you have to do, even if you're scared, or tired?”
Bree grins, thinking a few seconds. “Yeah. I guess it is. If I am brave, I probably got it from my brother. He always did what he had to do, too. Even if it wasn't the popular thing.”
“Does your brother wrestle, too?”
“No. He owned a company that closed before you were born, and he died a few years ago. In an accident... probably kinda like yours. I bet he was a lot like you when he was your age. ”
“I'm sorry your brother died. But if he made you brave then at least he did something good while he was alive.”
Bree smiles. Heath had done way more than one good thing while he was alive. But Carson had no way of knowing that. “He did. And you will too. Just keep working hard to get better and walk without your mom having to catch you. I believe in you.”
Carson gives her the biggest smile yet. Bree leans up and over and gives the boy a hug.

After a few words, Bree agrees to take a picture with him, and signs a promo picture that SCW had sent to the room before her arrival. She wanted to stay longer and talk with him, but there were two other kids on her list. Wishing Carson and his mom the best, she leaves, and finally allows the tears that had been building up to fall. Carson was a smart kid. And he'd taught her something. Things always came up in life that you don't expect. Accidents. Family arguments. Matches you didn't ask for, and didn't really want to fight. But all you can do is be brave. Do what you have to do, no matter how afraid you are to do it.

Bree met with the other two kids, both girls, both cancer patients. She fixed their hair, and talked about boys. They told her they believed she would win the Women's Championship, because she was nice, and a good fighter. Bree thought the current champion was nice (mostly) and a good fighter. But she didn't contradict the girls. She just told them thank you, signed their pictures, and went on her way. On the way out, she saw a mom sitting in the waiting area with a small baby, his leg in a cast. This kid obviously wasn't on her list, he was 3 or 4 months at best. But she couldn't help herself when the mom looked up and recognized her. The baby had gotten his leg caught in his carseat, and fractured it. Bree spoke with the mom, April, a bit, and signed the cast on the baby's leg.

Done with her visits, Bree sits outside the hospital, waiting for Amy, twirling the stem of a white lily between her fingers, looking at it amused. She had run into Ace again and he gave it to her. Apparently it was a 'thing' for them now. When Amy came out, she eyed it curiously, but didn't ask. Just as well. Bree knew eventually Amy would come around and stop being so cold towards her. She just hoped it was soon, because this silent treatment was killing her. Maybe if they both were successful over the weekend, giving congrats to each other would break the ice. A girl could hope.

* * ON CAMERA * *

Outside, near a hotel pool, we find Bree Lancaster sitting at a patio table. This one is bare, no umbrella, as it sits under a gazebo about 20 feet away from the pool. Dressed in a purple halter top and a black and white slanted striped skirt, Bree has the chair with the back to the table, her bare feet crossed at the ankles, her sandals pushed aside under the table. She greets us with her usual bright smile.

Hey guys. I'm here in New York trying to relax a little before my match tonight for VWA. But before I get too deep into focusing on that, I need to let you all know how this is gonna go down tomorrow night.

I am coming to the ring to win the Women's Championship. I want to put that out there from the start, because I know that I am not the favorite to win this. I'm sure I'm expected to do well, look good, work hard, everything else that is said about me every time I get so close to a big win, yet fall just short. And hey, don't think that I am discounting the fact that I won my last two matches, one of which was one of the women I will be fighting Sunday night for the title. Katie seems to think I don't know who she is, or what she's done, or what she means to this company, but I do. The problem is that because I don't 'bow down' to her because of it, she thinks I'm.... I don't know, disrespectful or something.

I am not disrespectful. I know all about giving credit to the veterans who paved the way for my generation of wrestlers in this business. I mean, I was trained by one. It would be pretty terrible of me to act like history didn't matter, just for that reason.

But being a trailblazer does not give anyone the right to lord over everyone, and call yourself a goddess, and basically demand worship. None of us in this business deserve worship. We're people. We're humans. And unless you were nailed to a cross and died only to come back three days later, then I guarantee you that I will not be bowing or kneeling to you. I don't care what you've done for this business.

Bree isn't the most religious person in the world, but certain things do set her off about it, and claiming to be worth of worship is one of them. But, she said what she had to say about it and that's it. She is no female Eli D'Angelo.

Besides, someone who was so good and so talented and so deserving to carry the Women's Championship wouldn't need to have her little friends follow her around – what are they, like your disciples, or something? - and have them interfere in things that have nothing to do with them, throw punches at someone who never attacked them or you, or even need them at ringside so bad that you'd back down on trying to get everyone else banned from ringside, because it meant that they would be, too. Why do you want Gigi and TJ out here so badly, Katie? Is it because you failed against me without them, so you think you need back up to get the Championship that you want?

Backup at ringside isn't going to help you beat either me or Sienna.

And before you try to claim that I'm doing the same thing, Blake being in my corner is only happening because your friends are far too eager to get involved. Sienna was just talking to me about maybe fighting me for the title when TJ punched Blake for no reason! And don't try to give anyone this crap about it didn't happen like you tried to tell Chad Evans. I was standing right there. I've dealt with some delusional people in my career so far but, Katie, you are quickly becoming one of the most delusional ones yet. Honestly can anyone blame me or Blake for wanting to make sure that no one interferes in this match, that it stays on the up and up, and that whoever wins does so cleanly? Isn't that what this is supposed to be all about? Who will be the better woman in the ring Sunday night? If you have a problem with me having someone at ringside with me, then leave your buddies backstage, and so will I. It's that simple, really.

Bree shakes her head a little. It always boggled her mind when people thought that things like rules and advantages only applied to them and not anyone else.

And speaking of a clean match and a clear winner... Sienna, I know you said that you did what you did to beat Gigi for a reason, to prove that you're willing to do whatever it takes to stay champion. But, sweetie.... things like that are not very champion-like. I know that being a champion on SCW is a very prestigious thing, and it's hard to do, and even harder to keep. But let me ask you this... are you really willing to sacrifice who you are just to keep that title?

I thought you were one of the good ones. I know what happened to you when you were associated with Silas Mason. I know how hard it was for you get away from that, the scheming and the tricks he pulled on everyone. I watched when Regan Street double-crossed him and freed all of you from your contracts with him. And I cheered. Because you were too good for that scumbag. I watched you grow as a competitor, and rack up win after win after win. Kneeing champions and taking no one's crap anymore.

What happened to you, Sienna? You were all about doing things the right way, and working hard, and proving yourself. And yet... the first thing you do after beating Dawn Lohan for that championship, is retain it by grabbing Gigi's tights. Has being a champion really gone to your head that much already? In VWA I am currently a two-time Evolution Champion. There's a damn good chance I won't be by the time tonight is over with, but let me tell you this. I refuse to pull out tricks or illegal moves or anything even remotely close to unfair to try to keep it. That's just an insult to my opponent – no matter who is – and an insult to the integrity of the sport itself. And I am shocked and appalled that you thought you had to sink to that level to retain your title.

You might think it's not a big deal. So you grabbed her tights, it's not like you hit her with the belt, or threw salt in her face, or tried to poke her eyes out, right? It was a simple little bit of leverage, am I right?

But that's where it starts, Sienna.

Once you make excuses for the small things, little cheats that don't really seem like much... it isn't long before you start pushing it further. And pulling other kinds of tricks. And before you know it, you'll be exactly like the people you say you don't want to be anything like. People like Kelcey Wallace and her ilk, and yes, even Katie Steward.

I don't know if you'll have someone in your corner tomorrow night or not, too. I'm guessing probably not. One, your friends have other things to be concerned with, and two.. I know you've said that you want to prove yourself on your own. And that's fine. Respectable. But all that goes out the window when you make allowances for pulling stunts like you did against Gigi. You don't need to do those kinds of things, Sienna. But if that's the direction you want to go, I feel bad for the state of this division if you retain.

I am going to do the very best I can, as I always do, when I get to that ring. And whether we have company at ringside or not, you can be sure that for my part, I am going to fight a clean match. And if Blake is out there.... I know that the only way he'll get involved is if someone else does first, to stop them from interfering in this match.

This is a championship match, ladies. Let's respect that and give the SCW fans the kind of match they deserve to see... so that whoever does walk out with the Women's Championship? Will be the kind of champion they deserve to have.

With a confident nod, Bree flashes her trademark smile, and bends over to slip her shoes back on as the scene fades out.
