Something I know they do not teach in every course. What clothing to buy or use. I saw a reminder of this on best defence TV show. You should first look at what you have. Need to also depend on how you will carry. With that being said I like woolrich CCW shirts I own three (Brick Red, Black and Blue) Also get a pair of jeans a size two or larger. Reach with the opposite hand when reaching above the head. Kneel down to tie shoe or pick up items When re-adjusting gun place both hand in center of back and pretend to stretch this helps re-adjust. Best holsters are the one that fits and feel right. I wear out side waist. I have a small frame but I have no issues hiding my 1911 full size. I use a galco open top holster. I would suggest in public a closed thumb strap to beginners. Why easy to fall or twist out when going to the rest room or bending over to pick things up. I have seen it time and time again. Precaution is needed. I also sit in booths not tables and always gun on inside not out. So it stays easy out of site. Myths: Not everyone is looking at a fanny pack and thinking gun Not everyone is looking down at ankles Not everyone is looking at a guys hips Not everyone thinks a day planner may be holding a gun So stop second guessing. Ask wife or husband or look in mirror and then go out. Make sure it is not printing and wear loose enough clothing. I wear un-button dress shirts long even in summer with a t under. I also wear a football/hockey jersey or a longer t-shirt In every case I wear a cowboy belt because they are heavy duty. This serves as dual retention one keep pants up and to secure fire arm. I go with dual retention holster system attached on belt with belt through loops and back through holster. This adds for faster safer draw and staying in place and less sagging feel. Again carry becomes a personal choice so choose what fits and works for you. You are only wrong if the system fails. Such as printing or falling off belt or out of holster or not enough cover. Good luck and happy carry and be safe. Remember to review the laws and travel smart. Edited by no1gtkid, Jun 17 2010, 09:22 PM.

I do hope that what I learn and let others know helps. Another item I forgot is vests. They are great even in summer and can add a lawyer to cover and hide the gun well. Again no one thinks or pays attention. So break out the leather motorcycle vests, the camera style or the good ol cowboy vests. They look good and go great with jeans. One good suggestion I always let others know is always, always go with a holster never with out. Learn to carry your backup on the weak side and practice drawing (empty of course). Not for speed but for memory. This should be true even with strong side. Be safe, practic safe and as they say on American shooter "keep in the 10 ring". |
