Hopeless
I've had mixed results using CCS Gunsmthing at 2216 South Rainbow Boulevard.

First I took my wife's new .22 S&M Airlite revolver in for a trigger job. Everything went as agreed, and I was pleased with the result of the work. She is now able to fire the gun with her arthritic hands.

Next I took my family heirloom .22 pump rifle in to be rebuilt. I explained that it would no longer load or eject reliably. I specifically asked that worn parts and springs be replaced. I had to wait two or three weeks for the gun. When I got it back I was told that all it had needed was a "deep cleaning" and that it had been checked out and was working fine. I gave it to my grandson and the two us went out to a range in California where he lives. It constantly failed to load and or eject. He didn't get through a single reload without it failing at least once, and often two or three times. As far as I could tell, it was in the exact same condition it was in when I took the gun in for service. My only consolation was that I had only paid for a cleaning, and that didn't cost much.

I tried CCS again a year or so later. I took my Kimber Ultra Carry II in for a complete redo. I asked for a new black finish on the frame, and for all new springs. It took longer than originally estimated to get the gun back. When I got it back I was told that only the main spring had been replaced. The new finish looks great. But when I took the gun out to the range the new finish on the slide grooves of the frame kept hanging up the slide. I know that was the problem because it was actually being scrapped off and balling up by the slide action. I had to forcefully clean (scrub) the grooves using a wire brush and some abrasive compound to get it to loosen up enough for the slide to move freely. Now it's just fine. But I don't think a gunsmith should release a self defense weapon in such a condition. What if I had taken their word for it, and just loaded it up and carried it? I could have gotten killed because of the problem!

So, I have mixed feelings about CCS. I'm definitely going to try another gunsmith next time I need one. I feel sad about that as I like the people there and would love to be more supportive of their business.

It's too bad you had such poor results. Too many people call themselves gunsmiths without having the technical skills, tools, or knowledge to be one.

It sounds like your Kimber received a bake-on finish. The two guys I know who had that done to their pistols ended up having them re-done by someone else at additional expense.

Thats too bad, we are looking into adding a section for local gunsmiths, we want to do a lil more directing towards local businesses. Let us know if you find a reputable gunsmith and we will certainly list him in our new section on the main site.
