I suppose you might be able to say that Gerald would come along as a witness and document the journey or something of the sort, but that's really the only thing I could think of being workable. He certainly wouldn't volunteer, and I can't see the King ordering him along for any other reason aside from the above, and that already seems rather flimsy, given that the King probably wouldn't want to lose his chamberlain to such a task. |
|
But mostly? The assorted plans at play here would be going very, very wrong due to the actions of a no-name, no-count, utterly talentless Magus by the name of Shirou Emiya. He had no magic worth mentioning, no combat experience of note, and no plan for or knowledge of the War he was about to enter. He did, however, have one trait that had derailed a countless number of such grand, far-reaching schemes throughout history. You see, he really, really wanted to be a hero. -(Best description of the start of a Fate novel ever.) | |

All my characters are insane. It's just a matter of how well they hide it. ![]() And yeah, I was just kidding, I doubt Gerald would make much of a lovable sidekick. His reluctant attitude and sarcasm will have to stay in Sunkeep. And I wouldn't wait on everyone else posting once; not many others seem to be taking the initiative. Perhaps our resident dashing bard will say something to break the ice. Speaking of, thanks for posting Half Tooth; I'll probably make a response after a couple more people post. As to your question, though, I would say that it was a very sudden yet subtle thing, like a light going out in everyone's soul. It didn't cause any earthquakes or other noticeable disasters, but all the little things the Goddess did to protect humanity (and Tsydranity) vanished. Like the ancestral waters, and keeping a hell bent lord of death behind his mountains. I would also say that since then everyone is a bit more tightly wound, more prone to fits of rage and other sins; partly because of the stress of impending doom, and partly because the Dark Lord is exerting his influence on everyone's hearts. Oh, and as to your question, Ambrose, as much as I'd like to pick something dramatic, I doubt even the king could give you an exact estimate. It depends on how long the human armies can hold off his horde, though the other effects, like pestilence and famine, will bring the date closer as well. Of course, it'd have to be long enough for us to reasonably make such a journey, so I'd give us around six to eight months, maybe more. It would really suck if we got back with the Lost God and humanity was already gone, so definitely not before we finish our quest. I'm sure the Lord of the Dark will be kind enough to wait for us.

Duhos is generally more of a Big Guy than I managed to show in his profile, actually, and is almost a bit of A Boisterous Bruiser for as well (TVTropes, how I love thee). I'll try and get that to show more in my later posts; thing is, he's also a bit of a proud feller, 'tis all. I will agree, though, that our characters do seem a rather introverted bunch at the moment. At the moment, however, I could probably see Matthew working into the role of the Deadpan Snarker without too much changin of his character, so far. Also, having the King turn out to be similar to 8-Bit Theatre's King Steve would be awesome. |

Ah, I see. Alrighty then. I could probably turn Victoria into one, too. She's taken that role in other RPs. Though, it'd be more Deadpan and less Snarker. You know what we need? A Deadpool character. That would certainly liven things up. That would, indeed, be awesome.

It's true, dammit! Edit: Also, I just realised the year is 1066. I recommend we remain wary of bastard-born Normans named William.

I know I said I'd like to make a jungle elf character, and I still would. But I originally thought he could join us in the jungles. I was going to make him a chatty extrovert, so he might be more fun to add to the group earlier than the jungles? I don't mind either way but I think he'd lighten the tone

The only problem is finding a realistic way to do that. From what we've already established, the jungle elves are very isolationist and never leave their jungle. The sea elf popping up in Sunkeep I can understand, as they actually have contact with the humans, and Sunkeep isn't really that far out of their way. For the jungle elf, on the other hand, the only possibilities are all convoluted deus ex machinas that'd make no sense. I'd love to have him join earlier, but I just don't think it could work, in my opinion. |

Well, to be honest no matter how isolationist these elves are, in a city as major is Sunkeep there's bound to be one or two... |

It's been previously stated that they never leave their jungle home. Ever. This may be a generic fantasy world, but one thing that's different is that if you walk into a city, you're not going to see twenty different races all in the same place. In this world, the jungle elves never leave their home and never have contact with the humans for any reason. Even the sea elves are almost never seen in human lands save for as traveling merchants in various port towns. This world isn't really big on that whole "mingling" thing, even among the different nationalities of humans. |

My apologies, Evil, it would seem I did miss that one. And I suppose it is more of a hereditary thing, as I stated with the ancestors business, though the Goddess would play a role in that. Perhaps there is some kind of "miracle" that occurs at the coronation, but other than that there wouldn't be much outward sign that she favors him. I was working off the idea that She never really intervened much in human affairs, rather She looked out for everyone in a more subtle way. If God does something right, no one will realize He's done anything at all. ![]() Though, I suppose, the entirety of the Church would have been thrown into chaos by the disappearance. No god means no real need for priests, other than as healers and diplomats. Their power is certainly weakened, though for the time being they have sort of taken control of the resistance against the Dark God, under the authority of the King of Sunkeep. It's almost like a crusade to defend the human lands, with almost every kingdom participating to some degree (I believe Atlas is our most notable exception). So his rule of Sunkeep isn't really in question, but his role as the leader of the Church could be in jeopardy, since the entire organization is now in doubt (Why would She leave if the Church was following Her will?) I'm all for character changes; anything to add a bit more variety would be great. And I'll have to look up this King Steve guy, perhaps we can work something out. ![]() Currently established lore says the Jungle Elves don't leave their home much, but the disappearance of the Goddess would create some extenuating circumstances. Just like how Half's Tsydra came to join us because of the Ancestral Waters disappearing, I can easily see one of the Medra meeting us halfway. Though the earliest place I could feasibly see one turning up would be the Free Cities, if not the Tsydra islands. And if one did leave, it would either need to be a young rebel type guy, or sent by the tribal council. It really depends on what you want to do, Half, since you have authority over the Jungle Elf lore. Seems like a fun character though. ![]() Oh, and Duhos' comment was fine, Colonel. Two months sounds about reasonable, given the time it would have taken everyone to gather at Sunkeep. Though, I must admit, I would have liked the idea of her disappearing in the winter; January works though. And stop linking TV Tropes, dangit! I have stuff to do today. I have literally spent hours there when I should be sleeping.

8-Bit Theater King Steve's first appearance is on page 58, though he doesn't get really funny until much later in the story, specifically after he stops being important to the plot and starts doing shit like running an election campaign for the position of King against a piece of string, or appointing a coffee stain as his right-hand man. |

You totally stole that from Fruturama! lol. I prefer the bit that goes: Bender: Do you know everything Im going to do?! God: Yes Bender: What if I do soemthing else? God: Then I don't know that. As for the Jungle elves, I 've decided to call him Tiku, I thought he could join around the time we get on the boat, since the jungle elves would be more comfortable with the sea elves, than with humans. Their reason for joining would be similar to the Sea elves. I thought when a jungle elf dies their bodies turn into a seed which is then planted, and when the Goddess left all those plants just started withering and dying, even the most ancient ancestor tree's in the centre of their forest are dying. So their world around them is literally falling apart. They would be just as upset as the sea elves would. Then they might hear word from the sea elves, who heard from the humans about the call for heroes to go in search of the lost god so they would send someone, Ideally I imagine they would send two because the jungle elves work better as a flock rather than alone but I'll just make one. I feel like I've forgotten to say something... I'll get back to you guys on that. |
