One post a day is a slow pace. Ten posts a day is a slow pace. There's this other RP that I'm participating in, and in the past 28 days since it started, it's gotten 1,294 posts. That's roughly 46 posts a day. Also, that RP has less participants than we do. Now, I don't expect us to move that fast, but we should at least be able to post fast enough to keep it in the active topics list.

I'd also like to add that actually, yes. Moving too slow can be bad. We need to be fast enough to keep the details of everyone's posts in the forefront of our minds until they cease being relevant, i.e. we move on to the next scene. If we take too long between posts, we'll end up forgetting those details which, naturally, will cause inconsistencies to pop up, and not only will it negatively affect the story, itself, but if someone simply makes the wrong inconsistency, it could spark an argument.
As an example of this, without going back and rereading, can you remember everything from everyone's previous posts so far? I know I can't, and until we move onto the next scene, we should be able to. That's why, ideally, we should be able to move through one scene every day or two.

Lastly, I'd like to bring up the subject of morale. Emotions are a very powerful force, and triggering different emotions can change someone's actions. If everyone sees the thread moving so slow that even a snail would laugh at it, they'll become disheartened as they'll feel like no one else even cares about the RP, and if no one else cares, then why should they? However, if the thread remains active, people will become more confident in it and will feel more desire to post, themselves. So, it's a repeating cycle. If it's fast, it'll keep getting faster until it reaches the upper limit of how much people can post. If it's slow, it'll keep getting slower until it just dies from inactivity. And don't think I'm just talking out of my ass here. I've seen far too many RPs die from inactivity than I care to remember, and by all accounts, this one is barreling straight down the same path as those.

I care about this RP, I really do. However, it's getting harder and harder to keep caring when all I can perceive is nothing but apathy from everyone else.

Well I posted. Was going to post yesterday, but my charger stopped working. :P

Also, it was stated going in that at most, 2-3 posts were expected per week from people, so to demand more after the fact might be a bit much, Duke. And it's a bit early to say this RP will die, I'd say. The fastest RP I was ever in only picked up after some dead time because the creator quit, though that may have been a bit exceptional.

EDIT: One last thing, not to nitpick, but it can hardly be said that apathy is necessarily the reason for so little posts. Those people expected to post who don't after a while in this thread seem to have rather reasonable motives behind the time.

Yes, and with 2-3 posts per week per person, that's still a total of 18-27 posts per week, or 3-4 posts per day. So, I am actually expecting much less than what was previously stated. Currently, the running tab is just over one post per week per person.

Too early? I've seen RPs die after three posts.

Woah woah woah, no need to talk about dying just yet, people. Sure the pace hasn't been very quick, but none of us expected to come back and find twelve posts waiting for us everyday. The whole point behind the limited numbers of the RP was to keep the pace manageable. That's not to say you can't post whenever you feel like it, but we should naturally be able to keep up without too much problem. If anyone has a problem with the activity, they should post something that will force everyone to reply, like the introductions bit we did. The problem isn't usually people having enough time, it's having the inspiration and need to post; if there's nothing for them to react to, they're not going to post.

Speaking of, if no one feels like they have an incentive to post, we can always have a Robert Jordan style random fight scene. On our way to the teleporter maybe, or at Wellay itself. Anyone in the mood to fight the minions of Darkness? Just to add some excitement. :P

It's also easier to post when you feel more comfortable with the other RPers and their characters, it usually feel kind of awkward at the start. I'd like to suggest on the higher up people who worships the lord of darkness should randomly turn and and tell us our task is futile... blah bla blah... the dark lord will win and destroy the world as we know it... then summon a bunch of enemies for us all to fight.

The trouble is we have no way to bonding the characters at the moment, the only way for characters to bond is for the to talk to each other and work together. And in reality we don't usually just wander up to random people to start talking to them. So I think we need something to bring them all together. Preferably something that take into account our strengths and weaknesses so that we aren't super uber overpowered.

So he waited for the Psion to give her rather terse greeting, ...
Unless Duhos, himself, is psychic, he wouldn't know that Victoria even did anything beyond stare at Garnier for a while, assuming he even payed attention enough to notice that. Victoria only spoke to Garnier. No one else heard that message.

Ah, my mistake, I'll amend that.

Alrighty, well, unless anyone else has something to say, we'll be moving on shortly. I'll have the king respond one last time, then lead everyone down a side hall to the teleporter room. If no one disagrees, however, I would like to add a bit of excitement and suspense by having a small battle. As was suggested, perhaps more of a messenger than a real threat, but he'll need to be dealt with regardless. The details should be a bit of a surprise, but it should come within the next few posts; if everyone agrees with it, that is. :)

And there's no such thing as posting too often, Crimson. If you're able to post more than some people, then go ahead. As long as we don't leave anyone behind, we can have conversations and the like amonst ourselves. The more posts the merrier. ;)

Also, my apologies for the drop in activity on my end the past week; between a car crash and a medical emergency in my family I have been quite busy. Everyone is fine, in case you were wondering, but they took up a good bit of my time as well as my inspiration. However, that should be behind me now, so post incoming soon. Thanks all. :)

Have fun Duke, enjoy the end of the summer. ;)

Anyway, I spent three hours on a plane today, and five more in driving and waiting, so if no one minds I shall delay my intended post until early tomorrow morning. First day home in a week, I've been trying to unwind a little bit. Sorry for the delay; I hope everyone else's summers were just as good (or better) than mine. :) Thanks everyone.

Most excellent! Good to see everyone back safe and sound. :) My apologies for the creepiness of the king's passageway, but I didn't think a teleporter room should be a very public area. Anyway, as soon as everyone posts their way into the tunnel entrance we can skip ahead to the room itself. And the random encounter is fast approaching as well, so be on the lookout for that. The theme music will probably change, dead giveaway.

Also, I enjoyed your "out of water" comment there, Half. :P Fitting, I should think.
