Gyrfalcon- geddit right bud, or you is food.

She prowled low within the cover of tall grass, silvery eyes locked upon an old knobbly kneed Bonasus drifting at the edge of the herd- a herd of six, consisting of four prime adults, a calf and the wizened one. Morrigane would have tried to pick off the young, but she had a young of her own with her. She couldn't abandon the Cerberi pup if the entire Bonasus herd decided to turn against her. Chances are, they might give up the old one if she sank her teeth fast enough. Her lips curled in annoyance when the growing pup wouldn't stop wriggling forward. With a warning snap of her jaws, she planted a large paw firmly on all wagging tails. The creature dropped instantly to the ground, all three heads turning to look up with wide multi coloured eyes. Morrigane shot the Cerberi a pointed glare. Stay put. Which it responded with a pitiful whine from its throat. Now properly cleaned and groomed, the Cerberi, stripped of concealing filth had a strange coat colouration of a blushing rose. Along its spine and tail tip, frosty, peachy pink dusted its creamy, fresh coat. A breath of ghostly yellow brushed its throats and ample chest. Male. And Zan had been trying to attach the name 'Rhodanthe' to it. For some reason, it wasn't sticking to the Cerberi very well. It kept ignoring her human whenever he used that name. Flashing a final warning to the wayward pup with her teeth, Morrigane progressed slowly forward towards the unwary Bonasus. The sigh of tipping grass blades went unheard under the confident stroke of her paws. She had to lunge and chase soon, since her dark coat couldn't keep her hidden under the daylight for long. But before she could get close enough, the grazing Bonasus lifted its head, thick neck swinging to another source of disruption. Morrigane was ready to take advantage of the distraction, until a sharp distressed yelp doused cold water on her head, followed by the furious bugle of a bull. Her stretched neck reared and sharp, desperate grey eyes darted over the field in search of the foolish Cerberi. It didn't take long for her to find it, for the entire herd was stampeding after it. The Cerberi, hardly taller than her elbow galloped towards her, fear driven deep into its eyes. To its simple, naive mind, Morrigane was safety. With a noiseless snarl etched on her muzzle, she spun and launched herself straight after it, charging towards the herd head on. Her human would have thought of something better out of this mess, but right now, he was too far away. She breathed defiantly through her nose, claws ripping out dirt as she went. The distance between them closed quickly, counting mere seconds before she would be gored by a flailing Bonasus's horns. Morrigane snatched up the Cerberi pup, terrified and with feet still flailing by the scruff of its neck. Wheeling as fast as she could, Morrigane veered to the right, relying on the sharp adjacent turn to slow the large beasts down. She didn't quite make her escape, however, for the armoured nose of a Bonasus slammed against her hip and sent her tumbling off her feet. Since her loss of considerable weight, Morrigane could no longer resist the charge of brute strength. She was just a little faster, yes, but dark fur hung a little too limply against shrunken muscles. Underneath the cover of her fur, her ribs were becoming prominent ridges. Her strength had left her. Celestials be damned if her agility failed her too. Her shoulder slammed and skidded against the ground, before her jaw followed, landing painfully on uneven earth. Her teeth bit into the pup's skin from the force of impact. She could taste its blood. For the first time, she was horrified by the rusty tang on her tongue. The rest of her crumpled, pitched off balance by the Bonasus's charge. She knew she had no time to spare the Cerberi pup concern just yet. Back legs scrabbled hurriedly against the dirt, forcing herself up and running despite the numbing pain on her shoulder. Direction was lost. Morrigane only knew to run forward now- the only path without obstruction. She realised too late, that she was now caught between two charging Bonasus. Their horns lowered, closing swiftly to crush her. Morrigane swung her head, tossing the Cerberi in a distance reaching arc away from the herd. The pup yelped, paws paddling in mid-air as if to reach her. It vanished from her sight as soon as the Cerberi landed far away, among the tall grass. It was the only way now, and she was ready, fearless as always of the inevitable. |

((What a beautiful post Seiss! <3 I shall leave the Bonasus' reactions to you, I hope my post is alright for you ))It was chance... or maybe luck... that had Bloodbite wandering in the same area that his former mate had chosen to hunt in. Or maybe he had caught her scent from time to time, following her, then loosing her again, picking her scent up again only to loose it once more between rocks or across a streaming river. He had not truely tried to track her down, not tried to howl for her, but whenever he stumbled across something that made him think of her, he had changed directions to follow her path. It had been long weeks since they last met and still somehow he had managed to arrive in the same area, hungry and tired from carrying his armor all day long. He always wore it when being away from the Academy, just like his rider often wore his own, both alert and armed, ready for tainted intruders. Bloodbite really had never been the swiftest dire alive and with his armor he was even less so. At least he was decently quiet, cloth and stuffing keeping his armor from clanking and clattering around, noises that would have driven him insane otherwise, his sensitive ears picking out sounds far beyong what his rider could hear. And sounds were what he heard, trotting through the tall grass, along with a number of different scents. Bonasus, he thought, slavia gathering in his mouth. Maybe he could convince his rider to go on a hunt together? Turning his head to gaze upwards, he swiftly decided otherwisely, the face of his rider as void of emotions as it had always been. Still, Bloodbite changed their course, angling closer towards the scent of the great beasts, weaving through the grass until the sudden, angry bugle of a bull made him pause. Maybe he didn't want to go into that direction after all... But had there been a yelp just before the furious outcry of the beast? He could feel thundering steps through the ground, could feel the mass that was charging at... something. Curiously, he quickened his steps, running up a small hillside so he could gaze down at what was happening with the Bonasus. And what he saw... froze his heart in dismay... He saw Morrigane go down when one Bonasus caught her hip, tumbling and slamming heavily into the ground. He winced but did not look away when she scrambled to her leg. Run! RUN!, his very soul wanted to scream but he remained utterly quiet. Unlike her... he had seen the second Bonasus charging at her. He had no time to think, no time to weight the possiblities... He just ran, falling from walking straight into a gallop, charging down the small hill and using every ounce of speed it could give him. Somewhere along the way... he noticed distantly... his rider slipped off his back, running along until Bloodbite's much longer leaps left him far behind. Or maybe he didn't run along, maybe he wanted no part of this reckless charge against an oponent that was two thirds again his own size and much heavier still. Bloodbite... cared not. His world had narrowed down to the small area ahead of him, the dark dire that stood between two charging bulls, read to get crushed. He couldn't just pick her up and drag her away. He'd stumble over her legs and body and get them both killed. But he could maybe give her an opening... Bloodbite made no sound but for impact of his large paws against the ground and the whispering of grass that he trampled flat against the earth. No howling, no growling announced his arrival. He had no time for that. And besides... he did not wish to catch attention too soon. The Bonasus charged... and so did he. On the last few meters, he finally took his heavily armored head down, his chin touching his breastplate, the long, narrow horns that rose from the back of his head suddenly turned forward, used like two, long spears as strong legs pushed him off with all his strength, slamming his own full weight headlong into one of the charging Bonasus. Bloodbite was a heavy dire to begin with, thick boned and heavily muscled he was certainly no lightweight. His armor only added to that, boiled leather combined with large pieces of iron plating, his entire skull packed into a helmet, his neck covered in sturdy scales. He easily reached over half a ton in weight and all this mass he threw into the side of one Bonasus at full charge, knowing full well how thickly guarded their backs and shoulders were. But not their soft sides and undersides. And even a creature as sturdy as a Bonasus would not be able to stay on course after such an impact. Maybe... just maybe... he could buy Morrigane the time she needed to slip away. And this time... his armor clattered. No, it creaked and crashed and he knew he would at least have some nasty dents his rider hated so much... but over all the noise he himself made, he heard a soft whistle and knew, he had not come alone... Smirij had instinctively dropped down from the saddle just when Bloodbite begun his charge, sensing that his dire was about to do something very reckless and very stupid, yet somewhat heroic. He had even followed alongside him for a while, trying to think of anything clever that could maybe save them all. He hadn't really figured anything out when he caught a glimpse of something else, something that looked almost... pink... in a short distance. And instead of going after his dire, he had turned, approaching something that looked almost like a growing pup with long steps, hoping to scoop it up whatever it were to carry it away from the crazed creatures that had the poor other dire cornered so badly. But while he did so, he put two fingers between his lips and whistled, pointing and wishing her to obey. Just this one time. Wishing her to remember all the days and days of training he had wasted, gaining nothing but bloody fingers and two unhappy companions. And for once... Pest obeyed. She certainly had her own reasons but one of them was certainly her knowledge of how upset her pet would be, should his fluffy-stupid die because of his own stupidity. Not that he didn't deserve it... but she'd really rather have her pet in it's usual neutral state than growing even colder... if that was possible. And so she dropped, the sun in her back, darkened for a moment by her feathered wings. Pest hated everything that annoyed her with a passion and those Bonasus... those were really annoying her. She picked her target with care as she fell like a stone, long talons outstretched and glistening darkly in the sun. She seemed almost black in that instance, not the mottled brown and green she truely was. Hatred shone in her eyes as she snapped her wings open all of a sudden, right above the head of the so far untouched second Bonasus that was still charging the darker dire, her legs pulled forward so she could rake her sharp claws down through it's face, aiming for the eye as she already backwinged out of the way, trying not to get knocked off the air. And unlike her pets fluffy-stupid, she was not quiet. She screamed in fury, her voice booming over the grassland, wings flapping and fluttering noisily. She was no real match for any Bonasus, but like many other phoenixes, Pest had zero tolerance for anything that bothered her and prefered to attack first and then consider fleeing. Having grown up around something as big and friendly as Bloodbite had certainly taken away her respect from anything that was bigger than herself and charging something with more noise than anything had often enough proven itself to be effective. She could always fly away in a huff afterwards. Maybe that stupid beast would at least steer away from her attack. If not, well, her pet couldn't demand of her to do more than this, could he? |

OOC [Yours, equally delicious <3333 This one is a little hurried D: hope it is ok. Feel free to control the Bonasus so we can progress faster 8D] She was still running, and the Bonasus were coming ever closer by every breath. Her limbs fought against resistance of the air. The pounding of blood, veined with adrenaline peeled off the invisible sheen of fog from her senses. Morrigane felt the weight of air pressing against her chest, her cheeks, her feet. No matter how hard she tried to push, she couldn't command her sluggish limbs to work faster. They dragged on upon milliseconds, while the bulls' horns slid faster towards her ribs. An unlikely vision slipped into her peripherals. A blur of red and a flash of silver. She turned her head just slightly, obeying a stutter of memory that took over her drive to flee. It was surprisingly easy to move, despite how hard it was to run. And that was when she recognised him. Decked in heavy armour, large and powerful, Bloodbite was charging down a slope in her direction. Her nose flared to catch his faint scent, as if to affirm that he was really there, not some other Dire. And he was. Morrigane could never mistake the strong scent of leather, and his unique musk. Her legs were still ploughing forward, but they were slowing now, confusion and a mild sense of helplessness having washed away the presence of dangerous Bonasus from her mind. Bloodbite belonged to the Academy. He was always there throughout her stay. Why was he here? When he lowered his head to bare his horns, she remembered the charging Bonasus. The clash and screech of pressured metal and loud, cushioned thud of skull against hide instantly made her jump for the opening Bloodbite made for her. The second Bonasus galloped past her rear, missing her spine by a mere inch. The other, gored by Bloodbite's horns wailed, staggering to the side a few steps, before its bulk finally crashed onto the grass. Unfortunately, the Sundasher's heroic act placed him right on the path of the second Bonasus. Curling horns pointed like vicious prongs to spear anything in its path of red rage. The phoenix's contribution may have shifted the fool creature off course, but the Bonasi, half blinded, flailed his head about, bugling and charging even faster. Morrigane, who had just escaped death by a mere hair's breadth, whirled, pivoting upon two alternate paws and copied Bloodbite's charge, eyes bright with relentless intent. Dirt and grass ripped in a flurry of her movement. Instead of using her head, she slammed, as shard as she could against the Bonasi's rear. It was the only weak point she could reach at such a short time. Thick skin shielding the beast's bone and flesh felt like hard rock against her shoulder. The impact robbed her of her breath and her strength. As the large Bonasi's rear hooves slid diagonally forward from the bludgeoning force, its entire body collapsed heavily against the earth, shaking the ground. Morrigane had fortunately fallen on top of its hip instead of under. She had heard something snap, perhaps the wild beast's leg of rib. Hopefully both. Her breaths came noisily through her nose, desperate drags, strained, almost as if she was choking. She could allow herself to rest, just for a moment, couldn't she? The Bonasi beneath her was struggling on its forefeet, trying to haul itself back up, but to no avail. She didn't care, if it managed to get up. She was tired and she only wanted to lie down for a little while. She couldn't quite grasp why, but her sluggish, spinning mind found her mate's arrival reassuring. Her warm, dutiful, loving mate she was slowly growing fond of. For weeks of their separation, she had kept him out of mind. Simply because Zan said he belonged to the Tainted Academy. But now here he was... and it didn't seem to matter any more. The Bonasi Bloodbite had gored sported two puncture wounds on its sides. But despite its injuries, it staggered back on course, joined by two others of the heard. They were angry, howling at the top of their lungs, cloven feet pounding marks onto the ground. They charged again, towards the two Dires with the intent to drive them off their fallen member. A distance away, the Cerberi pup, frightened, strated growling and snarling at Smirij. Three jaws snapped at reaching hands, tails tucked themselves between its llegs upon his approach. |
