Character Number- Fourth Name- Nergal Askedrup Age- 24 Gender- Male Sexuality- Heterosexual Appearance- Nergal stands a full 6’6”, but his poor posture often lends itself to him standing closer to 6’2”. His hair is long and silken, almost golden in its hue. However, he often does not allow it to drape down over his face. He rather prefers to keep his long mane kept pulled back in a tight pony tail dropping down between his legs, stopping to hang around his knees. Although this hair is oft considered the only beauteous part of his person, he has woven various bones and other trophies into its flowing locks. And to further hammer home that even something beautiful can be horribly dangerous, Nergal has taken it upon himself to fasten a short blade to the very end of his ponytail. He has yet to master the technique involved, but he garners a sick pleasure from striking a killing blow with his hair, previously thought of as the least-threatening part of the human body. The man’s skin is completely ashen in complexion, which is in turn the partial inspiration to the “Aske” portion of his surname. Nearly every inch of his pale skin is covered in intricate tattoos, most of which depict his ancestor’s gruesome victories over foolish imperialistic enemies. However, not much of his skin, aside from his face and arms, is shown, as he believes in the importance of physical protection at all times. Askedrup is keen on wearing a suit of blackened-plate armor which covers his chest and legs rather effectively. He had removed the helmet and arm portions of the armor so that he may possess more fluid mobility and effective sight. Despite his love of fluid motion, Askedrup more strongly adores a blunt form of assault; namely a battle ax. This ancient weapon has been in his family for generations, passed down and up-kept as each son claims it in mortal combat with his father. It is on this weapon that Nergal keeps his crystal, having the baleful azure gem hang from a short chain at the base of the weapon’s handle. Askedrup’s face is somehow his most unsettling set of features. Somehow, in comparison to the wickedly spiked armor and grisly tattoos, his face’s subtly strange features are incredibly off-putting to the common person. His eyes are a rather pale blue, which is juxtaposed against the dark ring of bags in which they are set. His nose is crooked and pointed, tapering into a strange shape directly beneath his sunken eyes. He has great difficulty breathing through the repeatedly broken chunk of cartilage (which is also partially due to lung damage) and normally breathes through his mouth in slow, ragged breaths of air. Nergal’s lips are cracked and torn, often dotted with specks of crimson from grinding his uneven teeth into his lips. He also never seems to be fully aware of his surroundings. He seems to be consistently whacked out on some unknown substance, though it is more a reflection of his personality and attitude, which shall be touched on shortly. Personality- It is not uncommon for some people to be called spacey; however, Nergal is far more than just absent-minded. Rather, Nergal tends to stare off into space instead than focusing on the person speaking to him, and is prone to whisper quietly to himself. Yet this behavior is not indicative of his mental health, which is actually quite sharp and aware at all times. Nergal’s mind operates on a different set of objectives, forcing him to constantly plan out his next move, which in turn causes his eyes to drift. Despite this, it is crucial to remember that his mind is not drifting simply because his attention appears to be. He is constantly scheming, anything from wholesale slaughter to what to have for tea that afternoon. Although portions of his body may appear frail, his mind is the most powerful aspect. It is sharp and animalistic, more often concerned with how someone can be used to further a goal or provide some sort of assistance. When actually engaged in conversation, Nergal can be a colorful person to converse with, being the heavily opinionated ass that he is. He is; however, a bit of a spoilsport when it comes to opposing viewpoints. The man is hardly capable of accepting another opinion or expressing his ideas in an effective way to provide insight for all members of a discussion. Instead, he is quick to assault violently to overcome any disagreements. This does not couple well with his inability to explain his feelings or beliefs. Instead, he would sooner cleave a complete stranger in two rather than have them understand his side of things. Between this and his inability to maintain eye contact, Nergal is an often difficult person to converse with, unless you’re adept at avoiding touchy subjects, though this would also involve knowing those subjects and how to avoid them. As previously stated, Askedrup is a strongly opinionated man who believes the most important measure of a man is how strongly they uphold their ideas. To Nergal, if you cannot die for a belief, it is not worth having. A cause is something to bring about revolution, preferably of the violent type. However, he will never admit to anyone (or himself for that matter) that he often clings to flimsy and volatile concepts so that he may provoke conflict with others, and continue to hone his violent skills. Part of him understands this, and merely accepts it, furthering his devotion to the Taint cause. It is another way to commit murder under the guise of an overarching plan, even if he doesn't understand what that plan truly entails. In the past months, Nergal has begun to doubt his worth as a partner to the violent Arsis. Arsis's unrelenting hate for his Sekkaian brethren leaves Nergal confused for his own feelings. Nergal once felt hate, but only feels disappointment and pain crawling about his cavernous insides. Once misled by youthful ignorance, Nergal finds himself now consumed by guilt for his deeds. Not a day goes by that he doesn't remember the faces of the many lives he's claimed. He wonder what good his life has produced and how he'll be remembered once he finally dies. These thoughts fill his mind every moment, leaving him silent and distant. Arsis, a most uncaring partner, takes no note of his bonded's disposition and often leaves him to his own devices. Nergal, understanding his partner's hateful existence, wishes to find another to speak to, one who shares his new disdain for the Tainted lifestyle. Oftentimes, Nergal daydreams of fleeing and setting up life anew, hidden somewhere in Sekkaian lands. Rank- Viral History- Askedrup remembers very little of his youth, which he finds quite convenient. He is certain a harsh childhood or something similar would only impede his violent march through existence. He doesn’t have time for emotional disorders or other repressed memories, which likely suggests he is purposefully forgetting something. However, he is not likely to ever admit this, as a good portion of his existence is denying his various weaknesses, even if they become readily apparent. Nergal’s earliest memory that allows his mind to indulge is the claiming of the family ax. However, he did not have to slay his father in combat, as was the tradition in the family. His father had been dead for as long as he could remember, likely meeting an untimely (but appropriate) demise shortly after impregnating Nergal’s mother. No, then the ax was kept on display in their family lodge, a reminder of their clan’s former glory. There was no rite of passage to claim it, Nergal simply strode to its altar one day and claimed it as his own. His mother quickly came running, somehow sensing that the artifact had been disturbed. Rather than listen to her womanly complaints of adulthood and other such nonsense, the son simply struck his mother across the face and left his home. There was no dramatic mass slaughter, no tragedy, just a theft and battery. Nergal’s aspirations hadn’t risen that high just yet. It was several years after that fateful (and rather uneventful) day that Nergal began to acquire something akin to gals and dreams. Until then, he had simply been wandering the lands, occasionally fighting, but mostly sleeping in places of religious worship; as they were loathe to turn away a homeless man in need of shelter. Despite their hospitality, Nergal grew to hate any person who claimed themselves a hierophant or other type of disciple. It is hard to understand where this hatred sprang from. Whether it was youthful stagnation mingled with aimless frustration, or a reflection of something higher, he will never know. It was some strange, uneventful evening that saw the sudden and violent disdain for religion and places of worship. A young vicar asked Askedrup to perform some simple task, yet Nergal could only find it within himself to respond with excessive violence. Nergal quickly lapsed into a berserk fury and awoke to find himself outside the now burning holy building. He stood up and smiled; now understanding his higher purpose in life. From here on out, Nergal made it his mission to desecrate and defile all those who called themselves holy, though he was truly uncertain as to why. Nergal found himself strangely attracted to the Taint forces, his travels having brought him to the great expanses of Desolation. It was in these lands that he was first introduced to the mighty dragons. His first awakening may have been his mostly unwarranted hatred for oppressive religion, but his second came with the discovery of dragons. These magnificent, yet wholesomely disturbing creatures could decimate whole populations at ease, while Nergal was stuck piddling away with his ax and torch. He first decided to join the Taint in an attempt to align himself with a specific dragon and quickly bring about the decimation of all who oppose him, as cliché as that may seem. Yet, he was unconcerned with how much of his behavior may seem brash and foolish, for now that he has joined the Taint, he truly believes a purpose shall make itself known to him. Due mostly to his monstrous partner's tactics during war, Nergal has found himself a member of the Taint aristocracy, if one could call it that. His dreams of escaping Tainthood are all but dashed now, for death squads would surely pursue him to the ends of the realms should he choose to neglect his authority. It is with great, silent disdain that Nergal accepts the role thrust upon him by the powers that be. Quietly, Nergal often rests, leaving the ruling of their underlings to Arsis, a creature more prone to subjugating the weaker creatures beneath them. Pet(s)- None, he finds it a very unnecessary venture to care for another living thing that requires your aid. The Dragon Name- Arsis Age- 10 Gender- Male Element- Tainted Sonic Appearance- As with most sonics, Arsis is a rather beefy and squat individual most unfamiliar with concepts such as grace or stealth. His heavy barrel chest drags rather low to the ground, his wide legs kept at a stance which lowers his position considerably (amusing, given his rider’s tendency to slouch heavily). Arsis’ feet have developed wide claws used for entrenching himself into the earth. With such a feature, the sonic can attempt to ensure he is completely immovable, thus providing an advantageous position from which to attack. He has also developed several rows short spikes along his forearms, which act as a deterrent to smaller creatures, should they attempt to uproot Arsis from his position. His skull is wide, as is most of his body and is frequently used for bulldozing, even when it is most unnecessary. When entrenched, he uses this massive lump of bone to swing from side to side to both unleash his sonic fury and bat away anyone foolish enough to get too close. On the subject of spikes, Arsis' continued existence as a tainted sonic has caused several rows of spikes to sprout up along the dragon's hide. Although it ought to make riding difficult, Nergal still finds himself able to perch atop the beast in various areas. Arsis has become a walking anti-hug machine, his tail even developed a blunt club covered in hundreds of tiny spikes. The spiked club provides further protection when entrenching himself, as he can swipe away any rear attackers, or friends foolish enough to approach from behind for that matter. However, the most terrifying change Arsis has undergone would be the short, scraggly (and clearly malicious) beard sprouting from his chin. The small expanse of hair is often matted down with both blood and drool, further ensuring Arsis won't be winning any handsome contests any time soon. Most people will note that the most distinguishing feature of any sonic is the horns, and this is no less true for Arsis. His most prominent pair begin directly behind the eyes and extend backward, curving around the base of the skull and continue to run alongside his jaw, just stopping short of his snout. A smaller pair sit atop his skull and point directly outward with no fancy curvature like the prominent pair. While the main set of horns provide slowly growing dissonance, this smaller pair provides quick and rapid bursts that are effective in a tight situation, especially close-quarters. These two pairs of horns may be the primary means of attack, but Arsis also possesses several more ornate pairs along and under the primary horns. These smaller, yet still dangerous horns, point in various directions, providing the tainted with a wide range of assault without even having to turn his head. Due to his extend exposure to Taint, Arsis’ once bright and lustrous colors have faded to shades of ashen-grey, black, and bone-white. The coloration swirls around his body in odd patterns, especially so in his face. The coloration is darkened around the eyes and snout, almost appearing to have a splattered pattern. Now while the eyes are incredibly dark, the rest of his massive cranium is the lighter shades of grey and white. (NOTE: References for this color idea: http://www.wild-about-you.com/Images/gameStripedHyena.jpg <--Kudos to Kess on suggesting this one and http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs23/f/2007/362...by_HatewarE.jpg ) Personality- Before his corruption and descent into Taint-hood, Arsis was an incredibly caring and polite dragon. He was slow to anger, and quick to forgive. He was known for his willingness to discuss anything at length, and attempt to come to a better understanding with whomever he was speaking to. However, this is clearly no longer the truth. Arsis, as a taint, is vicious, brutal, and lacking in foresight. He refuses to think before acting, preferring to quickly assault anyone who disagrees with him. This hotheaded nature is actually what first allowed the beast to relate to its rider. Thankfully for both rider and dragon, they have yet to reach a topic they disagree on; though if they were to discover one, they would likely tear one another to shreds. Nergal may be violent and prepared to annihilate any who disagree, he is unlikely to succeed against Arsis, who has an extreme advantage in terms of size. Arsis quite enjoys throwing his weight around, literally and figuratively. He is intensely intellectual, and understands why he supports his ideas and beliefs (much unlike his rider who blindly stands by his convictions). The tainted sonic knows why he’s right on a topic, or at least why he believes his way of thinking is correct. Yet, he understands that should logical discussions fail, he can quickly and violently slaughter anyone with an opposing viewpoint. Although he does not share his rider’s hatred for religious institutions, he simply shares his intense hatred for other living things. Unlike Nergal, Arsis does not need a specific reason to want to kill another living creature. He enjoys above all things, the anguish and torment on the face of another as he blasts them away into oblivion. It is the one thing about Arsis that remains consistent as he grows older, he intense hatred for all life, except that of his rider.
