In need of some serious rewriting, bear with me

'Cause I'm just one of those ghosts
Traveling endlessly
Don't need no roads
In fact they follow me

And we just go in circles

Well now I'm told that this is life
And pain is just a simple compromise
So we can get what we want out of it.
Would someone care to classify
Our broken hearts and twisted minds.

Character Number- 5th

Name- Iktomi

Age- 24 (+4)

Gender- Male

Element- Ruin

Appearance-
By Balu .:. By Nherva
He sounds like this

Still a young Ruin by many standards, Iktomi appears for the most part to be solid in appearance. His form having yet to show signs of being anything other than opaque, his hide is still covered by glimmering and discernable scales. They shine anywhere from a dull rust red to a bright gleaming copper. If not for other aspects of his form, one would almost think that he was part metal somewhere in his blood lines. As far as anyone knows however, this is not the case, and many are still unsure of his ancestry, those who might remember no longer around, or unwilling to talk about it. But for the reasons of ambivalence or something else is unclear.

His lithe form spans a length of roughly seventy three feet, standing at close to nineteen feet in height at his withers. His long legs are thin and give him great agility. His feet are tipped in sharp ivory claws, retractable in strange cat-like paws. Appearing close to emaciated, Iktomi’s chest and ribcage are prominent against the skin, his ribs showing vaguely beneath his reddish-copper hide, giving him a leaner looking musculature than bulky. Contrary to the rest of his body, his neck and tail prove powerful, ripples of movement lying beneath the scales proving that he is far stronger than he looks.

Along his spine, a bristly mane of quills runs between two sets of feathered auburn and sienna wings. The bright orange quills overrun any hopeful feathers that sprout near the skin along his neck, bristling their way up to their tallest point at Iktomi’s crown. Soft and supple they stiffen up into dangerous spines when the Ruin is angered or afraid.

His mask is quite a strange affair. Bleached white is contaminated by two red bands over the muzzle of the wolf-like face it creates. An opening like a skeletal nasal passage allows passing of air for the Ruin to breathe freely. The top half of his mask is overlapped by an under bite, fang-like points growing upwards in an imitation of teeth jut from his bottom jaw. Nearest the end of his snout, one of his two jutting fangs has broken off at the tip, leaving one shorter than the other. No one quite knows how this has happened, and Iktomi prefers to not talk about it. Along the bottom of his mask, spikes push forwards from his chin, growing shorter the closer they get to the edge of his mask. Two horns corkscrew away in spiraling points from his mask, and another pair beneath that arc forwards under his jaw. Between the two, his small ears covered by more orange quills enable him to hear distant noises as easily as any Dire.

On either side of his mask are three holes for his eyes, six in total, all ice blue, matching the smoke that billows out of the holes in clouds reminiscent of mist or fog. The same smoke leeches off his wings in vague layers like steam. It also erupts around the end of his tail, concealing most of the tip from view about three quarters of the way down its length. Iktomi’s crystal, a reddish black affair that looks strangely like a spider is hidden on the underside of his chin near the edge of his mask by his throat.

Personality- Crafty, Philosophical, Dare-devil, Independent.
There is more to Iktomi than you would believe. Two halves of completely different dragon meld together in a seamless fashion that gives pause to those that would wonder if perhaps this Taint might be schizophrenic. Iktomi possesses a type of twisted nature to him that goes one step above most and makes him look rather…insane, when quite the contrary, he is perfectly sound of mind and able to plot to his own ends just fine. Starting off this strange dragon’s quirks and twists is his tendency to speak in riddles and rhymes.

Rarely will you ever hear Iktomi’s whispering voice speaking in much besides rhymes, sometimes making perfect sense, other times taking a little bit of unraveling to understand. If Iktomi’s not speaking in a rhyme, you should be wary. The only time he breaks his trends are when he is extremely unstable emotionally. Anger, rage, or control seized from him by orders from his Tainted Lord are enough to trigger this switch. His voice too will take on a deeper rumbling roar, the whispers growing to a fevered pitch of shrills beneath the bass when he changes demeanor.

Iktomi despises this. He dislikes his Tainted Lord greatly, but will never voice it to him of course. Iktomi’s dislike comes from the Lord’s tendencies to view most him and every other dragon around him as a pawn. Of course if he were to climb the bloody hill of bodies and scrabble past the ranks of other dragons then he could be seen as perhaps, more than just a pawn to his Lord…the Lord. But he has no wish to be in control of his own legions. He battles when told, if only to avoid torturous death, and in a hopes that perhaps one day he’ll meet his own end in battle.

Hardly suicidal and willing enough to slink before the Sekkains begging for them to end his life, Iktomi has pride. He is however, reckless in many senses, a trait he began to pick up after his rider died. Fighting in a kamikaze style, it’s a miracle that Iktomi made it through as many battles as he did. Most dragons did however, tend to avoid the strange gas-emanating dragon and his die-hard fighting style. He has however, met many a match and has scars to show for his foolish tactics.

But most often, beneath his strangely twisted, dare-devil, and independent aspects…Iktomi is…still quite odd. Often he enjoys watching the Sekkain dragons. Not for the purpose of finding a weakness, or as a stalking technique to prepare and kill them…just to see what life could have been like had the Fates been kinder. Wistfulness is not something he often exhibits, but there are times that Iktomi wonders what life would have been like had he been born as a Sekkain Air rather then the perverted form of his species. That line of thinking however, he rarely dwells upon, and none know of aside from himself, and at one point was entertained by his rider.

In the end, Iktomi looks out for himself. It wasn’t always that way, but it is the way he has been forced to reshape himself in the midst of the war and his own solitude.

Partner- Veles Dragomir (Deceased)

Rank- Toxin (Shell-less)

History- Hatched from a twisted union between two Tainted Airs, Iktomi viewed the assembled candidates and chose for himself one of the crop. Marching straight for the girl clutching his strangely shaped crystal, he sat before her and introduced himself in a sing-song manner that had many watching him strangely. There wasn’t a single sign of bloodlust emanating from the strange gas-leaking dragon. But there was something that they considered….’off’ about the dragon as he surveyed the rest of his hatchmates with six icy blue eyes.

The girl, Veles, born in Lihn and taught to believe that good was the right and that everything Taint was to be despised and destroyed, didn’t find a common ground with her dragon for a long while. The girl would often chastise, insult, and be spiteful in general to the hatchling that dogged her steps with silent purpose. Rather than become angry and spiteful in return to his bonded, he considered her words. Pondered them. And at one point, he did something that Veles didn’t expect. He asked her why.

At such a young age of only a few months, already undergoing the regime of training that had both Taintlings and bondeds locked on an island, all that they knew was what they were taught. Iktomi hungered for a different opinion. His rider offered an intriguing one. She didn’t see being a Taint as something to be proud of. She saw it as something to be despised. Against her better judgment, the teenager found herself teaching her dragon all about the lands beyond this island and beyond the darkened Desolation. And against all that was considered appropriate for any Taint, Iktomi developed a sense of curiosity towards the Sekkains rather than a great spite.

His rider’s perspective gave him the ability to compare the life of Taint to that of the Sekkains, to form his own opinion. Quite a startling one to his rider. It was strange for the two as they slowly began to realize that their communication, Iktomi’s rhyming whispers and her ideas, were beginning to find an equal wavelength. However, despite the fact that Iktomi and Veles were beginning to get along, there was still another problem for the young rider. Nidhogg and his Taint.

He kept the dark and spiteful side of Iktomi alive. Slowly the poison of the Taint leeched to the rider as well, and both knew that they would have to concede to the nightmare’s orders. Both in the prime of life, while both harbored a certain dislike for aspects of their life, they would rather have lived than die. A cowards choice in Vele’s eyes, but Iktomi kept an eye on her, preferring his rider to live rather then to do something stupid to get herself killed. But in the end, he was unable to protect her from himself. After nearly two decades together, they were sent on a raid to the Sekkain lands that Iktomi would never forget.

Pushed forwards by Nidhogg’s influence over the both of them, Iktomi’s mind was overcome by the need to slaughter the Sekkains. So intent and focused on his goal, that he didn’t notice it when his rider vanished from his back, didn’t hear her cry of terror as she fell to the ground hundreds of feet below. When all was said and done in the battle…the dragons from Desolation had been pushed back, and Iktomi left to scour for his rider below the trees, feeling a sense of foreboding at what he knew he would no doubt find.

His hunch was right, and as he stumbled, war-weary, through a small copse, his icy eyes alit on the body of his rider lying in the leaf litter, eyes shut. The spider shaped crystal was gripped in her hand, now darkened from it’s originally dominant red to a shadowed black. The fact that she held it free of where she had originally worn it about her neck showed him that she hadn’t died instantly in the fall. Uncaring of whether or not he was discovered by the Sekkain dragons that were no doubt still scouting for stragglers, Iktomi felt a strange sense of duty to his rider.

Taking the rest of the day and most of the night, he dug her a grave within the trees and buried her on Sekkain land. The shock and emptiness he felt was astounding, and it was that night that his mask cemented itself into place. As he covered his rider with soil, he felt a dark sense of anger towards his ‘Lord’ who had sent them into battle, uncaring of the losses that would follow suit, so long as they dragged several of the other side with them into the void or into the purgatory in between Taint-born dragon and Sekkain.

Iktomi vanished off the map for many years, unseen by anyone until one day he just reappeared, like a wraith out of the night. Hardly signing up onto the Taint side again, he stood by and watched the two armies collide. Only when a great forceful shove would come from the Lord through his Tainted crystal would he tear into battle after the Sekkain. Oh he is still quite useful, killing Sekkains on his mindless excursions, and earning himself plenty of scars as well, a kamikaze ghost best to be avoided when not in his right mind.

After battles have been waged, Iktomi will often slink away from the Taint forces. A silent ghost who crosses the barrier practically unnoticed into Sekkain territory to one secluded spot within the forests outside of Lihn, to visit the grave of his fallen rider, buried on Sekkain lands where she would have been happiest had the fates been kinder to them both.

Pet (Sort of): Fianait, Female, Deer Gargoyle
Shy, Affectionate, Keen Senses

Originally crafted by Mara, she was a mistake that he was intent on dismantling. When he made the attempt, she scrambled to escape, thinking something wrong, and managed to elude the Hybrid and break out into the wilds. After stumbling about for some time, she managed to find Iktomi, and decided it upon herself to take him up as her protector and keeper.

She’s made of Chocolate Sandstone, high in iron oxide that coats her in a sort of reddish brown color, and her eyes are dark obsidian. No impurities on her body, just the simple ruddy color. Due to her make up, she tends to shed dust clouds of her bodies material from time to time, but this has no detrimental effects upon her. Her draconic wings are large enough to maintain flight, but not for long periods of time, and she seems to prefer keeping her small hooves upon the ground.
