Character Number- Name- Ascomycota (goes by Cota). Age- 20 years old. Gender- Female. Element- Mycotic (Forest). Appearance- Not long ago, Cota was a beautiful example of a forest dragon. Her scaled hide was a lush hue of green with a single, striking white stripe—lined with a darker hue of green--running down the length of her back. Irregular blotches of the same darker green as surrounds her stripe could be seen randomly interspersed among the rest of her scales. Additionally, her belly scales were lined by little white spots, and the line down her back had a multitude of perpendicular white lines along the length of her entire body excluding her head. Even more white could be found surrounding the most distal portion of her tail in the form of three white rings encircling the tip. Her belly scales were a bright, lime green, appearing almost yellow in the right light. These scales did’t differ in texture or appearance from those on the rest of her body. Her eyes were a stunning grey color with massive, round pupils. Her head was slim and saurian, and she had no horns on her head, instead possessing a pair of boar-like tusks that jutted out from her mandible. Her front limbs and hind limbs had 4 digits facing forward, and one facing caudally. Cota’s wings, also having 4 digits, were long and elegant. The dorsal side of these wings was the same green color as the majority of her body, with white speckles at the bottom, On the other hand, the ventral sides of these wings were the color of her belly scales. Starting at the apex of her skull and ending around the middle of her neck was a largely immobile crest of spines. These spines were mostly for display purposes, having no real defensive value. Her crystal, a crude “s” shaped thing the same color as her eyes, rested squarely on her left clavicle. The taint did not alter the majority of her appearance. However, several drastic changes occurred. Her crystal was cracked in the center, appearing as if it had been a pane of glass hit by a bullet. The tusks on her lower jaw became longer and sharper, and her eyes dulled to an even darker shade of grey. Perhaps the strangest change to her appearance was the spontaneous formation of numerous hollow quils along the dorsal aspect of her rump. These quills, long and black with white stripes, also appear in a cluster at the tip of her tail, just past the stripes. This mutation was a direct result of the taint corrupting her into a mycotic dragon; while most mycotics are covered in mushrooms and other fungi, most of the fungal growth on Cota is located internally, between her skin and muscle. When it comes time for her to spread these spores, she ejects them through her quills in highly-pressurized streams. Additionally, she can and does utilize a peculiar alternative method. Like a porcupine, she can erect and release her quills into the flesh of an enemy. The rush of adrenaline from fighting causes a chemical reaction in her body that would normally release the spores out of the quills. However, she is able to halt the reaction in certain situations and cause the spores to simply go into the quills. She then releases them into the chest cavity of an enemy, planting the deadly spores directly into their vital organs, most often into the lungs. Other important changes included her claws; once sharp and elegant, they have become cracked and dull brown in color. Her nostrils are now perpetually crusted over with what appear to be white fungi. She also now has a permanent slump to her body and movements… unless engaged in combat, of course. Due to the poisonous effects of the taint, she's grown to an exponential 100 feet long and 30 feet high. ((Her appearance is based on: an amazon basin emerald tree boa's markings, a cape porcupine's quills, a green iguana's crest, and a wild boar's tusks.)) Personality- Before the battle against Erebus, she was a noble, dignified beast with a heart of gold. Altruistic and generous, she and her beloved rider would glady help anyone in need. While she never had the opportunity to be a mother, she was naturally maternal and dearly loved minding children… both human and draconic alike. In combat, she was swift and killed her enemies mercifully, never pausing to savor a victory. She mourned any loss of life, even of those tainted creatures she and her rider had slain. When the pair wasn’t forced to do battle, she spent her afternoons sunning outside. Her entire world was shattered—literally—during the climactic battle against Erebus. When her rider was suddenly and brutally taken from her, she immediately shifted from a kind, understanding dragon to the living embodiment of rage itself. As unflinchingly savage as a rabid animal, she is now filled with a deep hatred for all living things, tainted or otherwise. So engulfing was her anger that she can no longer remember her rider’s name, or what her name was before the hateful grip of the taint took hold. These days, she spends her time muttering nonsense to herself and hissing at others when they pass by. All another dragon has to do is look at her the wrong way and she’ll snap, often unleashing a barrage of quills at the unfortunate offender. While she serves the taint now, deep in the darkest reaches of her heart she harbors no true loyalty to her new lord. If a day comes when the tainted armies are confronted and her master is revealed to his adversaries, she will gladly join the Sekkains in slaughtering him. She loathes the tainted populace as much as any Sekkain, and wishes nothing more than to exact her vengeance on those who made her what she currently is. Partner- None (deceased). Rank- Bone. History- She was born Cotacia, a fine example of her breed, at the Academy. The hatchling forest-dragon bounced out of her shell and into the arms of a fun-loving lad named Hale. From the moment the pair realized that their crystals matched they were utterly inseperable; the bond between them was extraordinarily intense from the beginning, to the point where they could almost finish each others' thoughts. Life was very good for a long while, with the both of them reveling in Academy life and wyrmlinghood. They had numerous friends with whom they spent the majority of their time, and while they served in combat many times, neither were ever seriously injured. Everything changed when the Sekkains began to gain the upper hand in the war against the Taint. Cotacia and her rider were summoned to the battle against the tainted figurehead, Erebus. They were joining in a direct assault against the terrible beast when he unleashed a massive wave of scalding-hot steam. Panicking, Cotacia fled from the onslaught... directly into the arms of a waiting razor dragon. Her rider was impaled by the creature's multiple spikes and fell to the ground, dead. The sheer immensity of the loss sent Cotacia plummeting into madness. She turned on her friends and the tainted army alike, relenting only when she lacked the strength to continue. Her mind was warped, twisted. Life became a constant quest for vengeance; so great was her anger that she slowly began to forget everything she'd ever known. The images of those she'd loved--most especially her rider--faded away and were replaced by malice. Eventually, she even forgot her own name. Her body was perverted into that of a mycotic dragon, and she now serves the Taint, though only until she can avenge all she's lost... though by then, it may be too late to go back.
