"Well, my darling... This place sure is... quaint, isn't it?" The large beautiful Air floated effortlessly above her child rider, casting a shadow that drowned the boy in darkness. Unlike Nero, she glinted in the Autumn light, her vivid blue scales shining as if they had a life all of their own. The silver-haired youth trailed a finger down his throat, then glanced about. Despite it being such a nice day, there were not many people out and about. Maybe it was due to the breeze; perfect weather for Ashterath, or maybe it was actually to do with his bonded herself. She held a constant dangerous air about her, one that even the most innocent of children would be able to sense and dread. Still, he traipsed along in her wake, taking in the sights in a silence he could not help. "I remember, we followed this path once before, when I was less inexperienced. The dirt forever stained my gorgeous tail-feathers, I'll have you know." She sniffed, then and allowed her lemon yellow eyes to wander. "Still, it is nice to get away from that tragic island." Nero nodded, but was unsure she had even see the motion, still stuck underneath her flickering shadow. Would she ever land? It tired him to see her ever aloft in the air... Sometimes, despite the constant nagging fear, he wished to hold onto her as he had seen other riders do. Lately she had refused to allow him to ride. Whether it was to do with the sudden downfall of Nidhogg, or just her own new version of tormenting him, he was undecided. "Sweetheart," she crooned, "could you find me a nice, clean place to land? I yearn to rest my wings." Nero stepped out from underneath her silhouette and pointed in the direction of a dusty patch of earth and parched grass, close to a collection of run-down shacks. He followed her then, as she made her casual way over on the breeze, her large azure wings outstretched. As she landed gracefully down, her back-paws hitting the ground before her front, she snaked her head forward to examine the boy. "My child... you seem more distant than normal, is something bothering you, perhaps?" Nero shook his head. He could see the wicked glint of something cunning in the dragoness's eyes. "Well, good. Maybe we can stir up a little trouble around here. I feel a little too calm." Nero frowned, but turned his eyes to the floor, hoping to hide his emotions from Ashterath. She didn't seem to notice, too pent up in her own dark thoughts. "Hmm, maybe we can chase someone, or cut up a few houses, or something." She grinned. Such a peaceful day... and she would work to break that peace. |

It was their first day outside the Academy. Well, at least their first day outside the Academy as fully fledged dragon and dragonrider. It was exiting to say the least and Ouray felt the elation now that he hadn't felt during their graduation day. Proxy still hadn't reached her full grown size but she had begun to fill in, growing more and more into a young adult instead of a gawky wyrmling. She looked good, Ouray mused distantly, safely sitting in his saddle atop her skull as she decided to change directions in a long, graceful arc, soaring high above the ground. She certainly wasn't the fastest flier but he actually enjoyed flying with her once they had reached a certain height where she could soar with seemingly effortless grace, the land below them passing slowly. He was just about to tell her they best head back to the city before she grew too tired when he caught a glimpse of color and movement near a group of run-down shaks and small houses, frowning slightly. "You recognize them?", he asked his dragon, tapping her head and pointing. She merely grunted and begun to change course, going lower and turning right at them to get a better look. She shook her head ever so slightly, a movement barely visible but easy to feel for Ouray who sat upon her head. She didn't know them either and considering that the dragon was colored quite uniquely he doubted they had simply missed them. Surely they could have been at the front all the time while they trained at the Academy but he had attempted to learn as many about his fellow dragonriders as possible during his studies. Besides... there was also a certain... dangerous air about them. Something strange. Something dark an sinister... "We should probably head back and report..." Ouray begun to tell his dragon, already sensing what came next. Proxy growled defiantly and begun to dive for the other pair, her dark shape shadowing the sun momentarily just before she came down hard, flames and smoke already licking from her maw. She growled lowly in her throat, a bassy noise that was part warning, part threat as she stalked forward, closing the distance between herself and the other pair. "Who are you?", she demanded heatedly, apparently ready to lash out in force using both talons and fire to tear the intruder to pieces. "Shhhh... we don't know if they really are enemies..." Ouray muttered quietly from atop her head, stroking her dark scales altough he wasn't sure she even felt it. His other hand was already resting on the folded metal screen he used to protect himself from the heat of her attacks, ready to yank it up in front of him should the other dragon jump Proxy or should his partner decide she didn't like the answer she got. Better safe than sorry... |

The corrupted Air heaved a breath, her maw curling upwards into a cruel grin. "My sweet, do you think they would mind if I cut them down as they run?" She laughed then, the sound echoing loudly on the wind. Nero merely looked at her. "Darling... the day is too light, don't you think?" Any words that she had thought to voice next were cut short as her form was cast in shadow. Her lemon eyes hardened and she snapped her head round, watching as a strangely patterned dragon descended, fire and smoke trailing from her partly open jaws. "Well, doll... Me and my little one here were just enjoying the view," she said, flashing the Fire a smile. Nero reached out to touch Ashterath's cool scales, eyeing the newcomers in wariness. With his dragon in the mood she was in, there was no telling what she would do. His dark eyes fixed upon the flame-wielder's rider. Didn't know if they were enemies...? Really...? With the way his darling creature was acting? Wasn't it obvious what she was planning? Ashterath suddenly glanced to her feet and let out a sound of disgust. "There's dirt here... I hate dirt. It's gone all over my toes... How had I not noticed it before?" She sighed and shook her head slowly, coolly looking back at the Sekkian pair. The scowl that adorned her features melted away, replaced instead with a gentle expression. "Are you here to sightsee too?" she cooed. |

Proxys answer was swift and precise, a low warning growl, her markings taking a sudden shift from their usual blueish white into blazing orange all at once, the smoke that rose from her snout thickening: "Enjoy your view elsewhere!" she said in a cloud of ash, blowing the smelling particles right at the other dragoness altough they fell short of actually doing her any harm. "Go crawl back into the hole you came from!" she added heatedly, her tail lashing behind her, wings flared her muscles tense. She looked like a cat ready to pounce. A cat that could spit fire with talons the size of a man. She took little notice of the fact the other dragoness appeared to be rather calm and almost friendly to say the least. "The only dirt I see around here is your face!", Proxy sputtered, taken aback by the question about sightseeing. It had her unbalanced, suddenly distrusting her own instincts. What if she really wasn't a tainted as she had first thought? Was she in the wrong, misjudging this other dragon by mere appearance? Ouray atop her head was bothered by her appearance too but unlike Proxy he wasn't going to judge anyone without due cause. And so far... the other dragon had done nothing bad. She even seemed... nice. And Ouray was admittedly easy to fool. He would rather assume someone slept badly than believe in true evil. He was young and he had a lot to learn still... He doubted the now gentle expression on the other dragoness would last long though, considering how Proxy was talking to her. And who would blame her? He frowned, trying to look around Proxys snout and finding out he couldn't. While landing he had thought he had seen a glimpse of the other dragons crystal... that at least could give him an idea if they were tainted or not. Even if he didn't trust her general looks. For the time being, he remained quiet, seizing up the other rider warily. Perhaps they could keep their respective dragonesses from tearing each other to so many bloody ribbons? |

For a moment, amusement glinted in her bright eyes as the dragoness spat a retort, but that soon faded as a couple of dark particles drifted her way. Some landed on her snout and she lifted a paw to wipe the ash away, her maw twisted in repugnance. She examined the resulting smear for a moment before wiping it onto a small patch of grass. "Well, that's not very nice is it?" she said quietly, her scaled brow furrowing. Ashterath did not enjoy the way she was being treated. But then Proxy uttered of dirt upon the Tainted Air's face; she burst into laughter. Nero dropped back away from the dragoness, wearily watching her. He expected her at any moment to lunge forward and attack the Fire for her words, but instead Ashterath merely shook her head, her mirth dwindling to a small chuckle. "Darling, I have dirt on my face." She grinned then, amused by Proxy's outburst at that opportune of times. Nero didn't know what to do. He was torn between leaving or staying. He could feel how entertained Ashterath was with the pair, but also there was something else underlying that... He didn't really want to stick around and find out, but leaving without his bonded... He couldn't do it. He chanced a look to the vividly hued dragoness, then suddenly felt awkward standing there. He shoved his hands in his trouser pockets and focused his dark gaze back upon the Sekkian Fire and her rider. Secretly wishing that he was sat astride Ashterath instead of settled here on the floor. "This is definitely far more entertaining than wondering aimlessly about this place, wouldn't you agree sweetheart?" the Air asked aloud unexpectedly, turning her eyes to Nero. "We were getting a little... bored, you could say." She blinked and stretched, her two sets of wings unfurling as she arched her back like a cat. "Won't you stay with us for a while and keep us company?" Her gentle smile returned. Nero, however, could see that hint of wile to the upturn of her lips. He didn't know what she was planning and shuddered to think. |

Proxy had been prepared for everything, ranging from a full out attack to flight. But what she had not been prepared for was laughter. It caught her completely off-guard and resulted in a long moment of stunned silence, a look of utter confusion on her draconic face. That wasn't how someone was supposed to react to insults! She blinked several times, her mind reeling as she tried to process the situation. By the celestial tailfeathers, what was going on here? "I-I didn't mean-", she sputtered, breaking off mid sentence and very clearly betraying her own youth with her reaction. Proxy simply had no idea how to act, no past experience to go back to that she could use to evaluate what was happening and react accordingly. All she could do was stare, her mouth working silently, no further word escaping her. She must be looking quite like a young fool and indeed perhaps she was. She blinked again, then shook her head slightly to clear her head before responding. "Why... yes... I... I would be... delighted to keep you company. I guess...", the answered to the other dragoness, still highly confused. Ouray on the other hand begun to feel as if he could smell something... rotten. Something was wrong with the way the other rider responded to his dragon and he leaned forward in his saddle, eyes narrowed. He was suspicious of them both, more so than his confused dragon, altough he did tend to lean towards believing in the good in people, he wasn't stupid. Or blind. And he knew something strange was going on. Tainted or not, those two were acting odd. Probably to hide something and he wasn't too keen on finding it out and being caught with his pants down. He rested one hand on Proxys head, trying to calm and reassure her so that she wouldn't drop her guard down entirely out of confusion while he slowly loosened one of his spears that were strapped to the side of his saddle, trying to hide his movement from both the other dragon and her rider. The spears were short and stocky things, not a long range weapon but quite nasty when thrown with enough force and sturdy enough to do some real damage if someone was stupid enough to attack headlong. Besides... thanks to Proxys insistence they had a couple of barbed hooks near the tip. All he had to do was hit flesh and the other dragon would do the rest of the job by pulling them free. Considering his usually friendly nature those spears were very unlike him but he had been taught a lesson with a heavy sword and didn't plan on learning another today. He wouldn't walk into a trap with his eyes wide open and then complain about loosing. He would protect his dragon. And whilst it wasn't the most polite thing to do, nobody could really question his motives if he held a weapon close at hand while talking to a stranger. Safety first. "What were you doing her anyways?", he called out, still leaning forward, the spear now securely in his hand, hidden from sight by his own body. If they were Sekkaian and not Tainted... they should be able to tell them their assignment, perhaps even their wing if they were part of any... But if they were simply on leave... he hadn't gained anything. Besides keep them talking for a while longer. |

Ashterath was enjoying herself. This was so much more fun than going romping around, cutting down houses and genuinely causing trouble for everyone. Her smile widened as the flame dragoness faltered. What a precious response. She casually sat herself down and slowly folded her feathery wings back to her sides. She glanced to her bonded, then back to the pair, her masked face free of any other emotion apart from her lingering amusement that clung to her lips and danced in her eyes. "That's wonderful, doll," she purred. "I'm glad of the company... My little one here may be a constant companion, but he's not much of a talker." She giggled softly, her yellow eyes drifting back to watch her Rider's reaction. At her words he looked away, anger flashing in his gaze. She was just saying that to rile him up! She must be! He ground his teeth, but managed to shove the ferocity back to the far corners of his mind. Nero's expression appeared blank as he turned back, however frustration now welled up inside. How he could take the ability to speak for granted all those years, he didn't know. He clenched his hands into fists. Ashterath looked to Proxy's rider. "What are we doing here? Oh, that's easy to answer, darling. Me and my Rider are merely out here for a time of relaxation. There's been so much going on lately, we barely find time to ourselves." She ruffled her two sets of wings. Urgh, she hoped that this dirt wouldn't come to pose as a problem to her lovely mane... That would just not do. How anyone could go rolling in muck was beyond her. |

Proxy settled down slowly and carefully as the Air did the same. Her wings however remained halfway parted. Ready for an emergency launch, ready to defend herself. Clearly she was still startled by the other dragons response and not sure what to do about it. Being call 'doll' however brought a loud snort from her, a noise very un-ladylike but such thoughts were far beyond her. Proxy didn't care about being ladylike. She was more the practical type. "Not much of a talker, hm?", she responded, her bright gaze shifting from the dragon to the rider, watching him for a moment before looking at the other dragon again. "Perhaps that's caused by your attitude.", she replied in a not entirely unfriendly tone. Her comment had a certain bite to it but she didn't quite go ahead and insult the Air again. She'd done that already and it hadn't really paid off. Besides... perhaps she wasn't all that bad... ...Ourays thoughts were still racing and he wouldn't have agreed to his dragon. Something around here smelled rotten. Really rotten. And he wasn't going to step into it just now. "That's understandable... hopefully there will be more time for that with the war over and all that..." he responded in a friendly tone, his eyes still narrowed to small slits. "What wing are you in? I don't remember seeing you around much...", he continued in a soft tone as if they were talking about nothing more important than the weather and the shape of a cloud. As if everything was alright. But something was clearly off. The rider had not said a single word since they landed, not made a response and his face was... surprisingly blank. Was he simply the quiet type or was there something else amiss? Ouray didn't know but he trusted Proxys initial instinct, now overshadowed by lack of experience. She would not have made such an approach if everything had been alright. And Ouray kept his spear at hand. Ready. Waiting for the Air to reveal herself as the tainted he suspected. It would have been much more polite to leave his saddle and meet the rider in person... ...but he liked his safe spot, thank you very much. He wasn't going to leave Proxys protection without due cause. He had gotten his fair share of close contact with another human all too recently. Until he knew what was going on... he'd stay just where he was. |

Nero's eyes widened briefly as he was scrutinized by the Fire dragoness, but he quickly dropped his gaze to hide it. He automatically brought up a hand to touch his scarf, mentally picturing the criss-crossing scars hidden beneath. The curious upturn of Ashterath's lips were drawn out revealing a poke of fang on her right side. How true that was. Then the smirk was wiped away, contorted instead downward into an unhappy downturn of the mouth. "There was an... unfortunate accident," she said gently, lowering her head until it hovered close to her Rider. "He was left mute." Her sigh blew back the silver hair that fell in strands over Nero's eyes, but he did nothing other than blink and shift from one foot to the other. Ashterath drew back up, inclining her head in a nod of agreement to Ouray's statement. "Indeed. things will surely grow more peaceful over time." Then she smiled, listening as the Fire Rider asked of their Wing. Now, being a Taint, Ashterath was not supposed to know of such things or, at least, barely know, seeing as the past wars had such warrior dragons taking part. However, she had listened well and learned. Many a time in her short existance she had come to play around with one Sekkaian Rider and thier dragon or another. In her year and a quarter alive she had learned much more than other Tainted ones should of the opposite side. So, it was with confidence she give voice to one rank of Wing: "I am in Fang, you probably would not see much of us as we are often busy with one thing or another." Nero drew away from Ashterath then and sat, watching the Sekkaian pair. It was bound to happen sooner or later, the fight between them, and he could see that the Rider of the Fire dragoness was suspicious. He sighed and turned his head to view Ash once more. ... She seemed so at ease with all of this but, then again, wasn't she always when it came to dangerous situations? For once he wished he was one of the Sekkaian's, instead of staying with her. |
