Character Number- 9th (450 post slot) Name- Ahnu Xaienn Age- 30 years (bonded at 24) Gender- Female Sexuality- Bicurious -Appearance- Ahnu is not a large young woman by any means. She only stands at about 5'4'' and has a slight, lightly built frame. She's quick on her feet because of her build and the fact that her metabolism seems to refuse to allow her to gain any more weight or lose any…ever. Ever since hitting twenty years old, she hasn't changed physically in the slightest. Despite being fairly small, Ahnu's body is pretty well toned with muscle from her consistent swimming exercise, which she has done since even before Fathom in the rivers of the valleys of her birth. Running has always winded her too quickly and she's always felt limited on the ground, so she took to the water early in her life to get her exercise. It's one of the only things that she feels she can explain her bonding to a Water dragon with. Even though she's not very affluent in most areas of her life, Ahnu loves clothing. Fabrics of many kinds from many places are her vice and because she likes to make clothes for herself, she tries her best to get a hold of the softest satins, silks, and velvets that she can. At least for her nice clothes. Dresses are her favorite things to make and she's constantly trying to challenge herself with their designs and materials. She loves to experiment with textures and designs as well, especially now that her and Fathom's training is over (as well as the war) and she has more free time to pursue her favorite hobbies. She can almost always be found in colorful attire. Accenting her usually colorful appearance, Ahnu's naturally medium complexion is offset by a pair of dark, near-black eyes and fine, silky dark hair. She likes to get creative with her hair and it can almost always be found worn differently whether it be in a braid, pigtails, buns, ponytails, or complicated up-dos, and oftentimes she will use natural pigments to dye the strands a myriad of colors. She adores parties and special occasions just to have an excuse to dress up and dye her hair. She's not much of a fighter, but her training while Fathom was a wyrmling has taught her a myriad of ways to defend herself and her dragon, none of which she will hesitate to use if her life is threatened. Ahnu keeps her crystal in the gilded hilt of a small dagger of exceptional make which she acquired with her wages from the Academy. The dagger is with her at all times, no matter what she might be wearing. -Personality- Passionate, Simple, Easily-offended, Somewhat Pessimistic Even though Ahnu appears to be a friendly and social individual (and she usually is at least friendly), she can be a little hard to get along with because of her outlook on things. She's known to be a little bit of a downer sometimes. She feels like she's the only person seeing the world dying around her, however slowly. Ahnu is a lover of the natural world and its wonders and it pains her to see anything taken and used without being replaced. She firmly believes that if you want to cut down a tree to build your house that you should replant that tree so that your children can use that tree to build their house and so on. Anything taken should be put back. Animals killed for food should be respected and the population allowed to flourish rather than being hunted to near extinction. Though, with her respect for the natural world, she can't help but see the abuse that does happen and it brings her down. Humans and dragons alike are guilty of the destruction wrought by the war, and because she sees them as such, she has a rather negative point of view when it comes to hope for the races of man and dragon. There's so much selfishness that she's come in contact with that she tries not to be so herself, though she knows she's not perfect, she strives anyway. She's prone to bouts of mild depression when her thoughts align in such a way to only show her the bad aspects of her reality. Despite this rather dour outlook on humanity and Sekkai's future, Ahnu can be an interesting, colorful individual. She abhors technologies that have a tendency to make things easy to mass-produce and this has made her quite skilled at creating her own things. She believes things should always be handmade with the mark of their maker and appreciates much more the things that are rather than things that are simply mass-produced. Her clothes and jewelry are all hand-made, sometimes of the finest materials from the farthest corners of Sekkai that she's managed to get ahold of. If she cared enough, she might be able to sell many of her creations for boatloads of money, but she cares little for capital and merely likes to create. Making things offers her a peace from the speed at which society usually travels and gives her a chance to relax. Her dislike of technology isn't so extreme that she won't use simple things that are a way of civilized life, however. Even though she might seem like the type to be a loner, Ahnu actually does enjoy human company very much, particularly of those individuals who have been able to find a peace with her and understand where she's coming from with some of her rather…archaic viewpoints on things. She might seem slow to actually open up to who she really is, though, because there are certain things about herself that she doesn't exactly want to spread around. One of these things is that she's a shamefully hopeless romantic. Before bonding, her dreams of finding a mate that loved and cherished her and settling down with him were foremost in her mind, but since bonding Fathom, those dreams have been pushed to the back-burner and Fathom is her foremost concern. Sometimes she can also be a little bit awkward, saying things that might catch people off-guard because it's not something someone expects her to say. For example, if someone is playfully joking about something that has to do with something she feels strongly about, she'll say something in all seriousness that makes it seem like she can't take a joke. Fathom's always telling her to relax, but sometimes she just gets offended easily, and sometimes for no apparent reason. Some might think her uptight because of it, but those that really know her realize that it's only because she's passionate about everything she believes in. Because of this passion that makes her somewhat easy to offend, Ahnu can be a spitfire to argue with and most try to avoid it. Once her fuse is lit, she's one of those women whose fury hell hath not, and she won't give it up until she's satisfied or she knows she's been absolutely defeated. Something of interest to note is that Ahnu adores Glass dragons for their ability to create things, and even though she didn't bond to one (she adores Fathom just as much if not more), she often seeks them out for their unique abilities so that she can get materials to further decorate her own creations. Rank- Lambent Wing Scale -History- Ahnu hails from a small civilization north of Nyushi in the mountainous valleys that separate the jungles from Vidalaner. Because of this, her people were fairly isolated from the rest of Sekkai and only received trade from other small villages near them, therefore leaving the villagers to grow their own food and raise their own livestock as well as hunt to supplement their meals. Ahnu, as well as the other young females of her people were raised under the definitive rule of men in a society where women were submissive to their betters and to honor their family was simply to grow up, care for the home and family, and listen to their husbands. As she grew, Ahnu wasn't the first teenager to defy the rules of her society and family and take an interest in something other than what her gender role set out for her. She was into everything, not just what her mother did day by day, but also what her father and the other boys and her brothers were doing. At the age of around nine or ten, she started to sneak out and accompany her father and brothers when they went hunting. They didn't catch her until she was about eleven, and it caught her a stern lecture and correctional beating from her father. Any other young girl might have been frightened into submission and never deviated again, but Ahnu had a determination that set her apart from other young women growing in her village. Still she followed her growing brothers and her father on their hunts, listening wistfully as her father explained the importance of respect for their environment to his sons, especially when one almost killed a beast they'd stumbled upon that was giving birth to a calf at the time. Her father stayed her brother's hand, explaining that if he killed the mother, the calf would die, and there would be no new generations to feed them in the future. Ahnu took those words to heart and gained a profound respect for the way the world around her worked. Eventually, she stopped sneaking out on the hunts, instead focusing on the planting, which she was able to apply her father's words to as well. From these experiences she gained her deep respect and connection to the natural world. Ahnu was twenty when the war finally made it to her peaceful village, which was defenseless against the attack that came from rogue Taints looking for an easy meal. Her father was killed in the attack, which brought her life to a screeching halt. The village was decimated, and it was still several months before the other faction showed up, only instead of looking for a meal, the Sekkaians were searching for recruits for the army. All of her brothers volunteered, for it would bring great honor for them to bond to dragons and fight for the lives of their families. It was also the first time in her life that Ahnu ever saw a real dragon up close and not hidden by the smoke and debris from an attack meant to kill her and her entire village. She fell in love with the creatures that she saw, and she begged to go with them and stand as a candidate, but her mother only sternly and angrily told her that she could not. Not only would she dishonor her family and the memory of her father by doing something her brothers were doing, but she made it sound like the village's entire future would collapse if she were to leave and not offer her uterus to continue their population. After all, she was twenty years old and it was about time she found a man to settle down with and make a family. She needed to stop trying to live the lives of both roles and settle on the one she was born for. Offended and hurt by her mother's close-mindedness, which she determined was ridiculous because two of the dragonriders that came to her village were female, Ahnu retreated into an angered silence for days. She didn't go with the dragons the first time because of the sheer amount of headache her mother caused her, alongside her elderly grandfather that lost his wife in the Taint attack and moved back in to be the man of the house with her father gone. Her grandfather was even more hidebound than her mother and in a way more heavy-handed than her father. Ahnu was beaten several times before her twenty-third year for deviating from what her true duties were supposed to be. For almost four years, Ahnu lived in anger and loneliness, in a world where no one understood who she was or what she was about. It wasn't until she was twenty-four that she knew she had to take her life into her own hands if she wanted anything to be the way she wanted it to be. One last beating from her grandfather for doing something so simple as not obeying a command immediately and that was it for Ahnu. Her temper raged out of control and she screamed her piece until she was almost blue in the face. She was tired of getting beaten and told that she was dishonoring her family by not settling down with just any man and having children like her mother had already done by the age of seventeen. That night, she stole a horse and packed enough food to keep her for days, and she left, disowning her family as surely as they disowned her for escaping. She only felt…slightly guilty. Only several days after her departure did she realize what a folly it had been to go off on her own. She got hopelessly lost in the mountains and almost succumbed to the elements before she was found by an Earth dragon and his rider that just barely saved her life. She managed to convince the rider, who was fortunately of the Sekkaian influence to take her to the Academy, and even feigned slight amnesia in order to avoid telling the rider where she'd come from. To this day, she doesn't regret a single thing she did, neither leaving or lying about remembering her village. The Academy was a much better place for her to exist. The people were more open-minded and less strict and even if she never bonded to a dragon, she knew that was her place, and there she would stay, her family's ways behind her. Even though Ahnu wanted to bond, the sexist fears placed into her head by her origins destroyed her confidence on the matter. When she was given a crystal by Kazuko, she was more than stunned into silence, but almost didn't move on to stand with the other candidates that had received crystals, instead just staring up at the great white Celestial. It only took another candidate behind her urging her forward to get her to move, and so she did, waiting until her dear, beautiful Fathom found her and matched their crystals. Nearly two years of wyrmling training later, with the war over, the two aren't really sure where their goals lie. Fathom wishes to join a wing and socialize, as well as keep his fit exterior…fit. Ahnu just wants to pursue what she loves and continue to forge her own way in life without being harped on about procreating with the first healthy male that steps into her life and caring for homes and babies. Pet(s)- She won't keep pets unless its something that just follows her because it can. Critters that can be kept as pets, to her, are part of the natural world that's slowly being destroyed, and she's more apt to release a 'pet' creature into the wild than keep it. The Dragon Name- Fathom Age- 6 Years ((Hatchday: February 7, 2011)) Gender- Male Element- Water -Appearance- Ref sheet! Fathom is certainly a sight to behold. His body, though stocky and muscular is long like the standard Water, if not more so. He can sometimes appear to be more wing than dragon, however, because of the way his wings begin at his shoulders and do not stop until the end of his tail, the strong membrane supported by several muscular cartilage fingers. His swimming and flying motions are akin to those of a sea ray rather than a fish, and the brilliant silver of his scales shimmers beautifully when he flies. Covering his muscular form are thousands of iridescent silvery-blue scales that shine with tiny rainbows when the light hits them just right. If his build alone didn't make him stunningly handsome, his colors certainly do. Off-setting the bright shining silver of his scales are dark bands of color that sweep back from his shoulders, along his flanks, and fade out toward the base of his tail. His underbelly is only slightly lighter than the rest of him. His sinuous, powerful neck terminates in a handsome face framed by frills that imitate the long frill that runs from the back of his skull to about the mid-point of his tail, peaking in a tall dorsal fin on his back. The horns on either side of his head curl downward like his father's instead of waving backward like his mother's, being more ram-like in appearance, though curling close to his head. His head and face also resemble his father's the most, being stockier and blockier than his mother's more delicate visage. Two gem-like, jovial teal eyes rest in a frame of silver scales on his face. Fathom's crystal is a dusky rose colored pearl that rests firmly in the hollow of his throat just above his collarbones. -Personality- Amicable, Optimistic, Enthusiastic, Lacks Boundaries If there was any creature on Sekkai that was more perfect for Ahnu than Fathom, it's yet to be discovered. He is the light to her dark, the easy-going to her easy-to-offend. Very little seems to get on Fathom's nerves or bother him. He believes firmly that revenge is a dish best served cold and won't react even if someone were to be particularly adamant about dishing it to him or his rider. That's not to say he won't stand up for his rider if she's getting the brunt of someone's issues, but he doesn't go out of his way to fight back and prove himself or Ahnu right either. He rather likes to sit back and wait and watch whilst the person deserving of unfortunate circumstances gets their bad karma without his interference. Fathom is extremely friendly, and by contrast to Ahnu, very easy to get along with, at least until he gets very comfortable with someone. At that point he seems to lack knowledge of a personal bubble and he invades it whenever he can. His friendliness knows no bounds and he goes beyond putting his heart in everything he does, being as enthusiastic as possible about anything he's set to do, including relaxing. Fathom loves to be lazy and just be any chance he gets, even though he now knows there's a time and place for such things. He's often the one telling his Ahnu to relax and not get so worked up over certain things. Where she sees the world coming to a disgusting and dark end someday because of the abuse of the creatures that live and take and never give back, Fathom thinks there's always hope so long as there are people and dragons of the same mind as himself and his rider that wish to preserve the world and all that exists within it. He can be sickeningly optimistic at the worst of times and can frustrate his rider with this optimism, but in truth, without it Ahnu does believe she would be completely lost in the depression that sometimes results from her observations.
