Antaeus was happy enough to pass the time in companionable silence. His own mind wandered aimlessly from topic to topic. It was a fine spring day. The sun shown warm upon his hide making his mind feel pleasantly lazy and his muscles to loosen and flex more fluidly. It would be a good day for basking, but there was walking to do. So he moved contently at Karedon's side. The pair cut quite the swath along the road. A few people even stopped to stare. One earth dragon was rare enough, having two side by side was rather impressive as they strode silently down the road. Most earth dragons did not seem to stray very far from the Academy. He himself tried to avoid the city. There was too high a likelihood he would step on some poor human. He only ventured there when Odion wanted to see his sister, or buy tobacco.

Odion spent much of the ride smoking his pipe. Bowl after bowl was loaded, and chain smoked. However the warmth of the day, combined with the heat of the leather saddle, left him tired. He trusted Antaeus to get them home safe. So he tucked a foot under one of the metal struts that ran the length of the saddle and dozed. His handsome features were already as tan as they ever got from sun. As such he had little to fear of burning.

When night fell Antaeus slipped out of the way, not wanting to be a bother to the caravan workers who activity flung themselves too and fro to unstrap all of the great carts from Karedon. He sank down to his belly to watch with lazy green eyes. Much like his dragon companion he could have walked all night without much trouble. It wasn't hard and he knew he could sleep when he got there. However a rest was not ill advised. He could feel Odion's want to stretch his limbs, and need for rest through the bond. Not that Odion had not been sleeping on his back for much of the afternoon.

Antaeus remained quiet, patient for them to finish and when the dragoness joined them he puffed a greeting and nuzzled her neck in welcome, “Seems like for the time, you are working harder then I am with my wing.” In times of peace it was the common jobs that saw far more work. Sure he patrolled and soon he would be fixing the roads. For now though? He did very little. There were no longer taint to slay, no longer beasts to stop. The taint was receding.

Given enough time, and their lives were long, and enough time was a rather short stint, the world would return to order. Humans would move back to the outer lands. City's would swell again. Life would return. Eventually the darkness would be nothing but a memory, or so everyone hoped.

Karedon was rather quickly freed from the many ropes and cables that had been attached to various spikes, horns or parts of her saddle. When she no longer felt the tug of such things when she moved, she quickly took a few steps to be clear of the carts and stretched. The sounds that came from some of her joints sounded like a forest being broken in half, or crushed, but soon enough she seemed to be flexible again.

...And hungry, she wondered when that had happened. She didn't remember being hungry a moment ago, and often would forget to eat entirely for long periods of time. She sighed as she decided it was likely an effect of her egg-bearing state. Her mind was brought out of its internally tuned thoughts when nuzzled. Looking down she rubbed the side of her cheek against his head during the motion, then smiled. "Perhaps, but I am sure you will catch up."

She turned from him as her stomach growled again, though her body brushed against his front as she went to find the cart with her food. She carefully removed the cloth cover with her teeth, then started sniffing about the crates as her rider hopped down from the seat, and began to walk down the top of Karedon's neck, it might have been a bit amusing to see the small (looking) rider climb down the end of the dragons nose, with a little help from one of the tendrils.

Once down Jhalorae began to open the ones that Karedon seemed interested. It was mostly vegetables, including blocks of tofu and such. Jhalorae probably ate nearly as much meat as her dragon did- though comparatively it was much more. "Hey Anteus, or Odion for that matter, you need any food?" She called out pretty loudly.

Karedon looked a little embarrassed as she glanced over, having neglected to offer it herself. "Ah, it is mostly vegetables... I am more than willing to share though, I am afraid I have no melons." After that, Jhal face-palmed a little bit, and Karedon got the slight feeling that she might have said something that could be taken the wrong way.

Odion had already started the process of working through Antaeus's large saddlebags. He was nearly inside the left hand one as investigated its holdings Jerky and carrots mostly, things that kept well even under the hot sun. There were potatoes in the bag somewhere, but he couldn't find them on glancing. Closing the pouch he quickly unhooked the straps holding them to his companion. He was deft working with all these straps, and the immense scale of things his dragon needed, at this point. . He gathered as much as he could carry then clambered down Ant's tail, using it as a slow sloping bridge to the ground. Once there he hit the ground he sauntered back over to the bags to go through them again.

Antaeus lifted his head at Karedon's return, “In time.” he chimed back. For now there was peace and that was all anyone could wish for. Sure he was ever anxious, ready for a battle if it found him, but for the time the rest was good. His body no longer ached with strain every night and his muscles no longer protested long hours of fighting and strain. It was good, but he felt rather useless. The cleaning effort would start and then he could feel like he was filling his role again. Soon there would be work a plenty to busy him.

Odion was rifling through the pouches when he heard the call of the other rider. He drew his face up as he dragged out his bedroll and set it aside. He cupped a hand to his mouth and called back. “I would take something. Not sure what but food would be nice. I got some jerky if you're interested. Not much else that would be too good. We could make a stew though.”

Antaeus shrugged contently. “Well melons are a rare treat. They are not exactly common to this area.” he licked his teeth at the thought, but was untroubled. “If you would not mind sharing I would be happy to share our own rations as well.” He rose to his feet. He did not see the melons thing as construed oddly as dragons rarely had 'melons' they did not nurse like mammals. So the slight joke was lost on him.

Odion however broke into a fit of quiet laughter, trying to prevent his amusement from spreading across the bond. To stifle it he chose to bury his face into the saddlebag that held his supplies as he grabbed out a pot and a small package of paper wrapped meat, the only fresh stuff he had. It wasn't enough for a dragon, but he could easily stew it for two people. He set the package inside the pot and started the long walk around the dragons. Soon enough he came around to Jhalorae and he looked her over. The woman was pleasing on the eye and Odion put on one of his best, lopsided, roguish smiles. “You must be Jhalorae. Pleasure to meet you face to face. You look taller in person.” He said playfully, referring to how far it truly was from the back of one earth to another.

Karedon watched as both of the riders were dismounted, though she did take a small moment to sniff, and peer very closely at Odion... She was careful not to knock him over though, and actually managed to avoid doing so. She was still more or less oblivious to the comment as well- other than her link told her that Jhalorae found it funny. That fact did not effect Karedon too much though.

With a few more boxes opened, Jhalorae tapped on a few which Karedon picked up and moved out of the cart. Walking off to the side of the road where they were set to be eaten out of the way at the dragons leisure. Jerky sounded better than tofu to Jhal though, or at least a good addition... She hummed somewhat as she pondered what to make, and eventually grabbed a small block of tofu, some more vegetables, and a bit of stock.

"A stew sounds good, could you start a fire while I prep some vegetables?" She chuckled when he commented on her height though, and looked him over a little bit. "I had hoped you weren't some sort of midget too, it's hard to tell when standing near dragons though... Once I actually met a midget with a forest dragon, I nearly walked into him waiting for him to look normal sized." She admitted with a small laugh, though while she spoke she headed off the road to be somewhat near the dragons without hindering their conversations or such. There was plenty of space off road here, thankfully.

Karedon had finished moving what food she had picker herself off of the cart, which turned out to be almost the entirety of the carts contents... Regardless though, she started removing some food and eating it, though she did pick up one that had tofu in it to offer to Antaeus. "Have you ever had this? I have heard it is not common, but I often eat it in place of meat." she explained easily, though she knew that the taste was not for everyone.
