It was just one of those days. A day where her rider had not-so-great feelings toward his older sibling, where they would debate the future of her human mother's shop while the father sat in his corner, working away and being the only one to remain productive. Then her human-mother set out on another unmentioned visit deeper into the city (only 'Song had seen her go), leaving her rider and sibling to try and 'work things out' between them. From the moment Elsin began to speak, Firesong could feel that it was going to be a long, long day. Her dear Dvri could only keep his calm nature for so long around the other, she knew. Firesong did not much like Elsin, who was a smidgen taller than Dvri, but his black hair had more of a greasy look and his stomach was beginning to protrude too much over his belt. He did not have a dire such as her to run with every day, she thought, then huffed a sigh as she laid out beside the thin, balding man at his work space. He held a magnifying glass to one eye, making it appear to be much bigger than it actually was as he looked closely at some kind of sparkly object or another. "May as well take a walk, Firesong. They will be at it for some time to come," he said, giving her side a brief nudge with his boot. He took a moment to give her a smile, then nodded toward the door, just in case she did not fully understand him. What Firesong understood was that the man, for once, had actually spoken to her. He was an odd human, always quiet, always...thinking. He reminded her of some of the older dires, in ways. Knowing he would tell Dvri where she went if need be, she got up and passed through the wide doors, unnoticed by the quarreling siblings. Not in the mood for people to gawk at her and try to touch her fur, she ducked away from those wondrous eyes and made quick work of escaping the city altogether. It wasn't easy finding a 'quiet' spot in or around Lihn anymore, not like back when she was a pup. But she managed to find a stretch of field, though her nose crinkled at the smell. Dead, old grass beaten down by many feet, brown and yellow from where tents had once been. Trash and, really, other things she wished she could not smell, invaded her olfactory senses. How utterly unappealing. Her tail whisking the air behind her, she heard something before she could head more toward the docking area of Lihn. Her head jerked up, ears twitching to and fro. It was...a crying...human child? Yes, she could hear it now. The distress all but made the child a beacon that lead Firesong right to it. Padding swiftly across and around the variety of filth, she slowed as she approached a quivering pile. She tilted her head, trying to see under the tattered blanket. She jumped back in surprise as a small human-pup popped out, his face dirty and still wet with tears. "Momma? No momma? Mommaaaaaaaaa!" he wailed, tilting his head back and wailing so loudly Firesong winced at the pitch. She didn't understand why this pup was out here, all alone. From what she saw of human mothers to their pups, they were watched rather well! She cautiously stretched her neck, ruffling her nose into his tousled brown hair. It didn't smell any better than anything else here, but, his distress saddened her. She felt his ache of loneliness and fright. The child suddenly stopped, eyes wide in fascination at the big, if not bright, wolf. She was so distracted, with all senses, that she didn't notice another dire was in the area. |

Alister had been ignoring her. Well...not completely but it felt that way to the dark furred she-wolf. His human-pup had slipped out of the candidate rooms and thus they'd been hauled to the city to...what was it that the humans called it? Shopping, yes. Tilting her head up at the humans, Twilight yawned, ruffling the hair of the human-pup and then her bonded with her nose and breath. The yawn was more of a sigh and while the short human continued bothering the merchants, the passersby continued to stare and poke at the wolf. This was getting out of hand, quickly. Growling low as another person poked at her, that was enough to snap her bonded out of whatever distracted state he was in. Hackles rising progressively at the poking and prodding, Twilight finally snarled just as Alister's snapped at the overly nosy merchant folk. "If you'd like to have your head bitten off by this dire feel free to keep poking her, otherwise leave her alone." Alister's tone was firm and Ljiljana's eyes scanned the crowd as they backed away before the child snorted and went back to the wares she'd been examining. Twilight's tail flicked and she huffed at some of the nearby humans, ears pinned back as she stared them down. Feeling her bonded's fingers trailing through her fur, she looked up feeling the simmer across their faint bond, Twilight whined in question. "Off you go before there's bloodshed, mine." Twilight's head tilted and she snorted shaking her head slightly. Hers wanted her gone...? Something tugged on her tail and she growled scurrying off. That's why hers wanted her gone. Overly touchy humans. Trotting to the outer edges of the city where the concrete gave way to trampled, dead grass, Twilight let her ears lead as her nose would be no use with the sheer amount of filth that littered the ground. Snorting softly as the filth stung her nose and eyes, Twilight shook her head, ears twitching forward as faint cries reached them. Tilting her head this way and that, Twilight followed the sound and drew up short. There was a human-pup and a fairly bright direwolf. Avoiding a pile of something foul, Twilight's tail twitched a bit and she woffed softly, inching close her attention divided between the human-pup and the other wolf. She couldn't smell them, something that agitated the wolf the most. Skirting the other wolf cautiously she padded close to the child but not close enough to touch him yet. Lowering her muzzle to the child, she took another step forward to nuzzle him. The sorrow was getting to her, it was an odd feeling, one that she'd never felt from her bonded's human-pup. The child was always content or happy or something like that but rarely ever sad. So why was this one alone, and sad and in this filth...? Whining softly, her ears panned forward toward the other wolf and the human-pup in question. |

It was the child that became aware of the other dire's presence first, those big blue eyes nearly twice their original size now, if possible, staring around Firesong. Following the young male's gaze, she stiffened at the sudden appearance of the tamer-colored wolf. However, she didn't seem at all threatening, regarding her with just as much wariness. Firesong relaxed, figuring Twilight was as curious and saddened about this human-pup as she was. The boy stared in fascination at Twilight, and as her nose became close enough, extended a hand to lay it on the bridge of that nose. "Momma...?" he asked doubtfully, and those eyes teared up mightily again, his shoulders quivering as he sniffled and cried more quietly then he had been before, huge tears rolling down his cheeks. More distressed, Firesong licked at once of his cheeks, willing the human-pup to be comforted. Catching Twilight's meaning, all she could do was glance around in indication that she had no idea how this little one had been left here. What human would do such a thing to their young? It was unheard of! A wolf would never do such a thing, at least. She couldn't see why a human would want to. Or maybe they had lost their pup and couldn't find him? She whined gently, looking around again, trying to decide. Maybe she could bring a human here? Or even get Dvri? No, she decided, she could feel his anger burning even from this distance. He must still be arguing with his kin. The human-pup suddenly stopped crying, as if the present company really was better than nothing, and wiggled his arms at Twilight. It was his sign to his mother that he wanted to be picked up. Why wouldn't this one pick him up? Sniffing away the last of his tears, the child made a gurgling sound and shakily got to his feet, then tried laying a hand on Twilight again. "P...puppy?" Oh dear. He was small, but too big for either of them to try and carry him by the scruff of his already torn and dirtied shirt. Firesong flicked her tail, wondering what Twilight's opinion was. Maybe they could lead it back toward Lihn? |
