He was exhausted. He had offered to take up a few escorts and both he and Rin were glad to get out and about actually doing something. It had taken them a good several weeks travel (including the return trip) and the city of Lihn was just in their sights. They hadn't really reached the camps that extended out from the city itself, but He knew they were getting closer. It would be good to be back. He could catch up with friends and his sister. She probably was worried, even though she would probably deny it, vehemently. He shook his head and smiled.

The day was warm, perfect temperature to run around in light clothing. No clouds threatened to overcast the sky, and there was barely a breeze. It was a wonderful time to be out, mid-morning heading home. He could have lunch, dragging his sister and whomever else of his friends that he ran into down to lunch. And then, he could hide away and nap. That sounded nice. To be able to lay in his own bed, rather than the ground. Normally, he would be riding/running with Rin, but today, they were walking side by side. He needed some exercise, and maybe after lunch they would go for their usual run out through the jungle.
They walked, his hand intertwined with the fur on her shoulders.

Rin was completely fine with walking next to Sebastian. She had had a good hunt this morning for their breakfast, and she was simply enjoying the nice walk. She could pick up the faint sounds and smells from the outskirts, yet she continued the slow pace, enjoying the sights and smells of the road as she went. She was relaxed, a small bounce to her steps as she easily kept pace with Sebastain, content. Until something caught her attention. A scent. A scent that was unfamiliar and didn't...fit right with everything else. She was cautious, and broke away from sebastian's grip to meander towards the edge of the path, nose to the ground, ears pointed forward. It wasn't a scent she had smelt before, but it was musky, earthy, tangy, and she couldn't figure out what it was. For awhile, she sat and just sniffed running it through her mind, before coming to the conclusion that she just had to know what it was. Tracking was one of her favorite things to do.

Sebastain paused and watched Rin sniff around, feeling her curiousity and caustiousness, he glanced more towards the city. He wondered what had caught Rin's attention so and he mused on whether he should try and coax her to leave whatever it was well and alone so they could continue on. They still had reports and debriefs to finish before or after lunch, depending on when they arrived. "Rin, Come along. We can explore it later, Lets go home."

However, instead of agreeing and dropping it, she just continued on, disappearing into the brush. She at least let him know she was ignoring him, and that he could either wait there or follow. (albit, this was presented to him in forms of emotion,). She was careful where she placed her paws, stepping over leaves and twigs that would crinkle and whenever the scent had dropped out, she carefully would backtrack and soon she would pick the scent back up. She didn't rush, she took her time. It was an intriguing scent, yet it somehow also left her unsettled the more she followed. A small part of her knew she probably should have listened to Sebastian, but she was too invested in this tracking to lose it.

When Rin downright ignored his command, he frowned. With one glance back at the trail, he followed after her, keeping up behind her, letting her track. Maybe once they had strayed aways from the road, he could convince her to return. He disliked leaving the road when traveling for numerous reasons, and he knew Rin was smart enough not to stray. So the fact that she was blantently following who knew what, was abit..disconcernting. Even if he was curious, he pushed it aside. All he really wanted to do was collapse in his bed. Every muscle of his was tense, and he listened to and broke down every sound that reached his ears. He didn't like wandering farther and farther away from the road, and his mind raced through possiblities. Traps, wild animals, he had no idea what lay on the other side of the trail. "Rinalias. Come. Now." His voice was tight, it was a stern order that, once again, was flicked off by a 'don't worry' gesture of her tail. He wanted to throw his hands up in exasperation, however, he kept one harm loose, while the other fingered the dagger at his side.

It wasn't a very long trail. And it deadpanned, in the middle of a clearing. Said clearing was empty, except for a small empty bag. Rin nosed it, tossing it about. It was a bag. well, no. Bags were used to contain stuff. Sebastain carred small 'bags' with him everywhere, unless he was traveling. So what was or had been in the bag? She snuffled about, whining slightly that she couldn't figure out what the smell was. She turned and looked at Sebastian as he tentatively approached her.

He had briefly paused when Rin had darted into the clearing, and after a breif scan-through, he hadn't seen anything too out of the ordinary. caustiously, with his dagger drawn, he came to a stop next to Rin. "Are we done? We need to get back before our luck runs out." He told her, his eyes falling on the bag. His heart sank. A trap. That was the only possiblity that ran through his head at seeing a discarded bag. The wind counldn't have just scattered whatever it was in the bag and then deposited it here. Maybe a wild animal chasing somebody, but there hadn't been trails of it. He had spoted several spots along the way that suggested something or someone had been through here, but they had looked weeks old. So, maybe with chance it was a forgotten Plan.

Keeping his voice calm, knowing full well Rin had probably picked up on his slight panic he spoke again. "Rin. We're leaving. Now." This time, She was next to him, ready for him to mount, and he gave the area a scan through before climbing up on to the saddle. But before he was even settled, Rin had become deathly still, as her ears pricked back. Listening to something. She didn't wait for him to be completely settled into the saddle before she took off, at a trot rather than a run. whatever it was, in her mind, wanted a chase, and she didn't want to give it reason (If it wasn't already following them) to chase them.

“Oy! Hyq, What’s the rush?” Delor shouted from atop his beloved Dire, clinging roughly to the fur and pushing himself to stand up a bit but crouch forward so that Hyq had an easier time running with the man on his back. The large Duskstrider simply whuffed a low sound as they made their way out of the city gates and along the path toward the forests, making it quite clear to the man in the saddle he was on a mission and not allowing for any dillydallying that day. Some reports had been sent in that a group of healers had gone out of the city to gather supplies in the forest but had not returned. They had been put on search duty that day and were sent on the mission to see if they could recover the lost people. Not to mention there should have been an escort sent out some time ago and they were due to return, but were a bit late. Even with the war over there was still a lot of danger outside of the city and the Dire’s were the ones who seemed to be taking care of it. It wasn’t long before they were in the thick of the forest.

Hyq’s nose dropped to the dirt before him and he caught the scent of something, stopping so suddenly that Delor went flinging from his back and hit the ground with a ‘thud’. He squawked in surprise and sat up, rubbing his head with one eye opened and observed Hyq who was feverishly snorting at the ground, tail flicking back and forth. He’d found something no doubt, head lifting and satellite ears gently rotating back and forth to listen. “Whatsit you smell, bud?” Delor asked, shuffling himself to stand and twisted to crack his back. The dire gave a disgruntled snort at the noise that Delor was making which was throwing his concentration off. “Sorry, sheesh.” The man muttered, standing as still as he could.

And then the duskstrider froze, whipping his head suddenly to the right as the sound of shuffling came from somewhere off in the forest. Or at least to him it did, Delor couldn’t hear it. He padded swiftly forward and shoving his head between the man’s legs, shoved Delor effectively up his neck and onto his back. Backwards. And then turned to dart off into the forest in a direct B-line for Rin and Sebastian. Delor was shouting and hooting angrily, grasping desperately to the back fur of his bonded and the uncomfortable position he was in on the seat. Whatever Rin was listening to it was most likely not Hyq and his rider, but they were going to be momentarily joined by them. There was also the concept that whatever it was either became suddenly very excited and was preparing to attack all of them or had been scared away.

Either way, Hyq and Delor came crashing through the brush into the clearing where Rin was poised and deathly still with Sebastian standing in a panic beside her. When Hyq came to a stop beside the other pair Delor finally had the chance to get a grip of himself and sat up, albeit backwards in his saddle and glanced around. “What in bloody…?” he said gently, a brow quirked as he shuffled his body so he might be sitting in the right direction. His face then skewed into an expression of irritation when he found it was nothing more than another dire pair. “What in blazin’ ‘ell’er ya doing out ‘ere?”

((Feel free to include whatever it was that was stalking them come crashing out to attack in your next post xD))

Of course, Rin was forced to stop, when something hit her hind legs and she barely manged to keep her balance. Sebastian however was thrown off and luckily, instead of landing on his back, he managed to land on his feet in a crouch. He straightened and both twirled to figure out what had tripped them up. Attached to Rin's left legs was a Bola. Someone had thrown it, and missed catching both her legs, but it had been enough to throw her off balance enough to throw him off. Granted, he hadn't been properly in the saddle. With their backs turned towards the direction of Hyq and Delor, they watched as the lithe scraggly forms of men and their dogs appeared out of the trees. The dogs were not as large as Rin, only slightly larger than a shepard, but there were at least ten of them. They were thin, ragged and looked like they hadn't eaten in weeks. Only three men complimented the team, and they looked worse for wear than the dogs.

Rin growled and snarled, hackles raised, as the pack circled, never getting near them, but teasing, testing her. She positioned herself in front of Sebastian, eyes never leaving any of the dogs that dared try to get close. She could hear the crashing and arrival of Hyq, and she counted him as enemy, seeing as she couldn't actually see them, and the faint scent she could pick up from them, she could barely recongize.

Sebastain counted, and ran through all the possiblties of how to get them out of there. There was no way they were going to be able to fight and win--not without some heavy consquences, and retreat seemed like the far better option, but they needed the oppertunity to dash away. At this point, there was no way he could leave without a fight of sorts. Great. The men snickered and bickered between themselves on what to do with their catch, but they didn't seem too interested in communicating with Sebastain. It seemed like they were wanting to rob and run.

"Well, I' Looks li' We got a stray pair tha wander'd too far from home, eh?" One finally spoke up, twirling a large knife in between his fingers.

Another one chuckled, "He's barely a mouthful, if you ask me. "

"Somethings better than nothing."

The dogs growled and howled, impatient with wanting to tear into the pair. Their eyes themselves, were demented, and all he could think was, they were rabid. Rapid and dangerous, and He had fallen right into their trap.

"I think we shou' take our time with 'em. " He was establishing himself as leader, holding back the men (and dogs), as he grinnned dementedly. "Nuthin' better than getting our due'"

Sebastian opened his mouth to say something, when the voice of Delor intterrupted them.

“What in blazin’ ‘ell’er ya doing out ‘ere?”

Sebastian took the chance to glance at the newcomer and he sighed in slight relief. Another Dire pair. He hadn't met them personally, but his odds of escape had just increased.

"Trying not to get overwhelmed?" Sebastian answered, giving a sheepish smile to the other man. "Rin--rather we made a mistake." He explained quickly. "though, I do apperciate any assistance...."

However, the leader of the group didn't look all too pleased with the fact that someone else had just crashed his attempted robbery. But he quickly grinned, thinking that just because he had more numbers, that victory was a sure thing for him.

"And 'ere I was worri'd tha' our day wasn't lucky. Ye both ere' proven me wrong." He cackled menancingly, His cohorts were cackled with him.

"If you mean the bad sort, sure. You do realize you've attacked an academy soldier, Right?"

The man laughed, unfazed with Sebastain's claim. "Righ' Li' tha' is supposed to worry me? Far from home both ya'll are. An' a trap gone righ' isn' one I'mma waste. Took me awhile to figur' ou' how to lur' you and you'r taint-forsaken mutt' out alon'." He gave a brief nodd of the head. "an' no worr' if you don't remember. Get 'em"

It was the word that both men and dogs had been waiting for. The small pack of dogs Descended upon both duskstriders and men. Rin Did her best to keep the dogs off of Sebastian, but every dog she shook off, another one replaced. She snarled, bit, kicked, tackled. The fight was on. Not only did they go for Rin, but the dogs took Hyq has a target, trying their best to get their jaws around his nexk or legs.

The dogs were not the only ones to leap at the chance to attack. All three men ran at the two with weapons raised. Sebastain found himself throwing dogs off of him, only to have to dodge punches and other weapons that were aimed at various parts of him. He swung a punch to catch some one in the jaw only to have knife find its way into his side. He sucked in a sharp breath, and managed to sweep the guy who tried to retrieve the knife off of his feet.

While two tried to take Sebastian on, the other one went for Delor, ax raised, trying to take him down.

(Here we go. FIGHT scene. I hope I did Ok)

Delor had hardly been really listening to the threats the strange men were making, mostly eyeballing the snarling and foaming dogs that wanted to desperately tear into the Dire pairs. What were they, idiots? These were Dires. Trained, teeth-gnashing, clawing masses of fur that with the right move could kill one of those dogs with a single bite. Or that was what Delor felt anyway, though he had always been a bit big for his britches. As Sebastian responded to him he slipped his dagger from it’s sheathe, lurching off of Hyq’s back and crouching in a defensive manner. He then grinned a wild kind of grin, making a ‘come and get it’ gesture with his hand. “Well, A’least we’ll get a bit a’sport outa thisun! Bring it on, bitches!” he cried, his call quickly responded by the attack of dogs and the class of fur and blades.

Very much less enthuastic about all of this was Hyq, who could only foresee a lot of death and some pain to himself and his handler. He heaved a heavy sigh, snorting his discontent right before Delor decided to open his big fat pirate mouth and yell defiantly at their enemies. Right, how clever. He was just so damn smart, wasn’t it? If only the Duskstrider could speak and share his witty mental sarcasm with the rest of the world. If only. And if only he was able to give Delor a frustrated thump on his head with his big paw without endangering the poor dolt. And then the dogs were upon them, leaving his thoughts to shift quickly and their adrenaline to begin pumping.

Delor ducked as a dog leaped over him and with a swift upward movement shoved his dagger deep into the stomach of the poor beast, which shrieked in horror and fell on top of the man. He shoved it off and whirled around, about to lurch forward to help his dear Hyq who was being attacked by several dogs all at once only to be hit bluntly in the back by the end of the handle of the offending axe. He quickly turned back around and met the blade of the Axe with his dagger, shoving it off and lifting a leg to give a heavy kicked at the man who was attacking him. The man responded with an ‘oof!’ sound, clearly a bit too weak from lack of food and bewildered by the other man’s quick reaction to realize what he’d gotten himself into. Leaping into the air with his dagger above his head Delor came quickly down on the man and shoved it deep into his throat, winning himself a gurgle of defeat and some blood splirted onto his face. He had been lucky enough to only be attacked by one man and one dog, quickly ripping his dagger out and charging for the two men who were attacking the other handler defend himself from the onslaught.

Hyq wasn’t quite as swift or light on his feet at Delor, being on the heavier side of his breed and was snarling wickedly at the dogs who were trying so desperately to gnaw at his throat. With a heavy swing of his paw he sent them flying though they quickly recovered and were back for more. One he caught by the scruff of the neck with his jaws and gave a wild shake, hoping desperately to snap the creatures neck in some hopes of killing it. How did they manage to get themselves into such a place?

Sebastian attempted to try and kick one mans legs out from underneath him with a long practiced sweep of the left leg, balancing most of his weight on his right leg. However, his target was more agile despite his looks and managed to step out and before Sebastian could regain his balance, another dog had thrown himself on him and he crashed to the ground trying to get the dog from getting at his throat. He could feel another one go at his legs, and he kicked it, pleasantly pleased with the dog gave a large yelp. However, he didn't dwell, only tried to keep the snarling mess of muscle from wrapping the maws around his throat. He struggled, and he managed the throw the dog off him, however he felt the dogs teeth tear into his shoulder before it landed on the other dog as it prepared to lunge on him. He managed, with a wince to leap to his feet in a crouch as the other man was soon upon him, his own knife raised.

Rin was, if not slightly, fairing a bit better than sebastian. She took to the tactic of not letting them grab hold of her. Which meant a lot more dodging and Snarling and knocking any out of the air if they came straight at her. However, this tactic was nowhere near working as she had hoped, and one managed to land on her back, grabbing her by the scruff of her neck. She snarled, not happy, and rolled, trying to put all her weight on the dog. She batted away two others that tried to take advantage of getting at her belly, and throat, and when she felt the attacker release her, she rolled over and managed to snap her massive jaws around the throat, snapping it clean. She threw the corpse to the side and took on another that lunged for her ankles. She wanted to try and get to Sebastian when she felt his panic flare, but when she saw him back on his feet, she turned more to her situation. They needed to see if they could retreat. The odds looked much against them at this rate. Another hound Decided to throw itself on her shoulder, and managed to grab and tear but she batted it, the wound merely a scratch in her eyes.

One of his would-be attackers had turned his attention to the charging Delor, his weapon raised in defense, and feet planted in hopes to stop the guy in his tracks. however the weight difference between him, and Delor was laughable and even though it was a courageous attempt it was a foolish attempt. The man was knocked off his feet, only to spring back up and lunge for Delor, dagger raised.

Sebastian's own dagger was locked against the knife of the leaders. Sebastian strained, pushing, waiting to find the sweet spot where his own weapon would throw the others off. With a pained push of his shoulders, he had the mans knife out of his hands, and he kicked the guy in the ribs sending him reeling backwards, off guard. Sebastian didn't even let him recover and he had the man trapped, pinned on the ground, with a swift and heavy hit, he knocked the man as hard as he could against the side of the head rendering him cold. He didn't stop, instead he threw himself at into the fray with Rin and Hyq.

(ooc: To keep track: Human foe left: One, Dogs: 8 (paired now against Rin, Hyq and Sebastain for the moment (Or a few at Delor if you want)
