Freedom! Oh it was a great feeling! Meira was as giddy as a child on the first day of Summer vacation. She was so happy and proud to finally be graduated, but as Telluria reminded her, they were not ‘free’ and they still had to pick a career path. Meira had to counter with how having some fun before hand was harmless. After a short mild argument, they decided to go to the jungle. Telluria was eager to choose a wing or some other path, but oh Meira was hardly as focused! But hell, the girl was right, they SHOULD enjoy themselves a bit. And Telluria was a bit curious about going places they were, until now, forbidden to go. And the Jungle was not too long of a flight, although really she was just happy to be flying at all. Though she had not yet admitted it to Meira, she was still unsure of her flying. She knew it could be better and more skillful overall. She tried not to compare herself to Savitr but it was difficult. Damned Gravity! Even now as they flew towards the lovely green hills, Telluria quivered as she steadied herself “Remember dear we’re only going in a tiny ways. The deeper you go the more dangerous it is and I am not full size or skill yet!” She could damn near feel Meira rolling her eyes playfully. “I know Telly. And that’s fine, I just want to enjoy the scenery! Come on just enjoy yourself too!” The girl said in her lovely carefree way. Telluria envied her at times, how could she be so cheerful after all she had gone through? Landing was a feat Telluria was getting better at. Which was good especially in such thick growth. Yeesh how did that big Fire Anala navigate through this area so easily? After a few flutters, Telluria was finally grounded. And Meira was way ahead of her in looking about in awe at the beauty of the jungle. But the Crystal dragon looked up and was taken aback by it all. She was aware of Meira slipping off her back to look about and Telluria followed until they reached a huge moss covered fallen tree. By the sheer size of it, it must have been magnificent when it stood. She giggled softly as Meira tried to climb upon it to sit, she aided her with a nudge of her head. Realizing that the only part of her that blended into the area at all was the emerald pits in her horns. This brought back her natural wariness. There were many predators here in the shadows. But Meira just yawned and stretched on the huge tree trunk and sighed. Her thoughts were elsewhere. Like social issues, she wanted to meet more people and, frankly, a man. Normally she was in no rush but she could not help but think about it and in the future starting a family of her own. Hell, if her mother was still out there, she would love to show her how far she’d come! Well, at least she had plenty of time. Maybe she could slim down a little first. Not that she was ashamed of her body but health wise it would not hurt to lose a few pounds! Telluria just lay down nearby. Recognizing the wistful dreamy look in her rider’s eyes. She just allowed herself to relax and enjoy this lovely, momentarily peaceful place. |

Audere had awoken with a wanderlust that no amount of pacing about the academy could satiate. She trudged about her new quarters in frustration as she attempted to figure out something new to do. To be completely blunt she thought she might die of boredom. Liam was being so choosey about his wing. If she had her way they would join her mothers and that would be that. She was lucky. Her father was shadowguard and she would be guaranteed a place in any of the wings if she proved herself useful. Already she was a skilled flyer. Sure it all sounded very dull, but it was something her rider was truly passionate about and she felt she should put her best foot forward to do the same. She flopped back into her newly crafted Eyre and harrumphed. With nothing better to do she preened her feathers, waiting for her rider to return. The studious boy had promised to go flying with her today. Then again that was after he finished his morning routine. He never failed to be in the yard at the crack of dawn to run through some insanely complex routine with his halberd. When she was younger she had watched every day, but since she had become bored with it. It seemed asinine and rather pointless all things considered. It was peace times and unlikely that they would be needed in battle any time soon. Still, fighting got them nowhere, she could tease him about it all she liked, but he was hard headed as an earth and twice as stubborn. After trading off between pacing and preening a few more times the door to their quarters swung inwards. Audere, who had been sulking in her nest thinking she had been abandoned, snapped her head upright with snake like swiftness. A grin spread across her muzzle and she sprung from her bed onto stilted legs. “There you are! I was beginning to wonder if you forgot about our plans. I mean I could have gone without you, but that seems so much less interesting. Who would complain with me if things went south?” She pushed her muzzle against his chest and peered up at him with her shaded blue eyes. Liam shook his head, sending his mane of hair bobbing around his face. He was flushed from exertion and hot from his practice. He reached rubbed along her jaw affectionately. “I wouldn’t forget our plans. I promised I would get out more, and I meant it. Now stop acting like I would abandon you. I hope you don’t plan for things to go south though.” He said firmly in his somewhat formal manner. He extracted himself from the dragoness and yanked off his sweat stained shirt. This one was cast aside and he pulled on a fresh one making him feel a bit less disgusting for their leisure. Unlike prior flights he had taken the time to pack a bag for their travels. He had a lantern, several meals of dried meat and rations to keep him full, a small knife, a tinder box, and a warmer jacket. Audere had scolded him for being over prepared but he hardly seemed to care. Her adventures had ended up with him sleeping out in the cold under prepared before and he wasn’t about to let it happen again. He slung his pack over his shoulders and slid the halberd into its holster on her saddle. She grinned and remained still and quiet as he readied her and fastened his weapon to her back. “Well of course you wouldn’t. You are a man of your word. You like to think yourself a knight. Yet you still haven’t gotten up the courage to face your sister.” She glanced away coyly, not looking him in the eye. If looks could kill she might have dropped on the spot from the one he leveled on her. “I will meet with my sister when I am ready.” She sashayed sideways and then flicked a wing outwards to cover her face with its feathers. With A playful smirk spread across her scaled maw in bountiful amusement. “Oh come on I was only teasing.” His scowl made her rethink her approach and she tucked the wing back to her sides, “Alright, alright.” With a satisfied nod she lowered her chest towards the ground and stretched her forewing back. Liam scaled onto his precarious dragon with ease. She was sure footed and nimble, which made her easy to ride, even if he looked oddly large on her folded paper body. Audere shifted her shoulders and glided to her ruby claws once more. A solitary ear turned back in Liam’s direction, the other twitched about the room on constant alert for sound. With a twitch of her slender tail she trotted out the door. It closed in a gust of wind, a little demonstration of her growing skills. Liam did not comment, which made her huff. The boy just didn’t take pleasure in the little things. She strolled outside and took to the wing with easy grace. She was more comfortable in the air then on the ground to be honest. Today was a great day for flying the warm air created updrafts that sent her spiraling high into the heavens. The ground shrank beneath her with each slow loop and the thrill of the sky set in. Liam felt his stomach fall away as they climbed rapidly into the heavens. No matter how many times they took off it always happened. It was not a bad sensation, there was a strange freedom in leaving the weight behind. Normally she was nimble as a darter in the air, but today she was flew lazily. She was content to let the warm currents do all the work. She set down in an open glade in deep in the jungle to stop for water, “What do you think of the sky today did you see how little I had to work?” She dropped her head to the edge of the stream that bisected it. Liam rolled his eyes and swung his legs down so he could sit upright, he used a laying saddle. He looked almost too big for her, his long legs hanging nearly past her ribs, like an adult on a pony. “Yes it was nice… Do you hear something?” Audere lifted her head and her ears swiveled at their highest point , Her wings flicked outward thoughtfully and then her ears perked forward towards one of the outer trees. “Ya, I just thought it was a sound, but now you mention it… Ya what is that?” On light toes the origami dragoness tottered forward and sniffed the air. She wound her way past the nearest tree eyeing the branches curiously. Her tail tip flicked thoughtfully. That sound had to be identified. Suddenly she paused under a particularly large oak. She circled it once and stared up into the dark branches. The boy shifted back in the saddle letting his uneasiness be felt across the bond. Audere ignored his worry. He was always worried. At least she knew how to have a good time, whatever this was it warranted investigation and an attempt to be enjoyed. She leaned her head to the trunk and pressed one narrow ear to the side. “It sounds hollow. I think I hear chattering?” She stepped back and stared upwards at the tree “It seems to be split higher up. Do you think it is full of squirrels or something?” She lifted a single tiny paw and leaned it against the tree. “This looks like a bad idea. Come on I thought we were flying today.” His gut was warning him that they shouldn’t be here. There were no birds, no buzzing insects. This was a bad place, but Audere did not seem to notice. She shook her head. “Nope. We have something good here. I’m going to see it through. If this tree explodes squirrels and I miss it? Talk about a fun meal.” She smiled toothily back at him “Relax.” She dug her crimson claws into the trunk and stood against the tree. The tree shifted. It was minimal, but the bark gave under the weight and her foot went straight through the side. With a warble of shock she yanked her foot outwards and tottered backwards looking suddenly uncertain. Her feathers ruffled and both ears pinned forward in deer like fixation. The small chattering turned into frantic sounds and grew in volume. Audere staggered backwards in sudden worry. Perhaps it had been ill advised to lean upon the tree. From the broken hole hawk sized black and gray forms swarmed like angry bees. They screeched with rage and launched themselves onto leathery wings. Horned heads and gleaming eyes stared down at the pair of them, turning their fury downwards. Audere froze. Liam felt her horror squirm through the bond. It twisted into his mind and clouded his thoughts. It was his job to take the reins and he was good at that. “Audere! RUN.” His shout pulled her free of the panic and she spun. With leggy strides she sprinted for the glade. The imps plunged after them shrieking like apes. Bodies pummeled her and slammed into her wings. Clawed hands raked at her feathers. Liam spouted curses as one clambered up his back hissing and spitting. He flung it off after a few attempts. Audere breached the glade and lunged skywards. The moment she went upwards she was pummeled by bodies, forcing her to the ground again. “I can’t fly!” She yelped as a particularly vicious imp ripped feathers from her aft wing. She shot a blast of air at one foolish enough to make a dive for her face, sending it careening into the branches of a nearby tree. “Liam!” Liam yanked another free of his side. “THEN RUN!” He bellowed and dropped into the saddle. Spurred on by pain and adrenaline she took off at a full sprint. Her legs coiled and released under her as she charged into the trees. Liam clung tight. She was an agile little sprite of a creature and her movements threw the worst of them, but she was not as skilled on the ground as she was in the air. A mass of black shapes soared after them bellowing in rage and swiping at skin and scales any time they grew close enough. It forced her to change direction often and run in looping paths as she tried desperately to lose the angry mob. She should have listened to her rider. Liam was right, but it was too late to go back. A peevish grin spread on her lips as the exhilaration shot through her. Celestial tailfeathers this was unnerving but such a rush! Sure her wings ached where feathers had been successfully removed and Liam was probably going to kill her, but this was the best damn game of chase she had ever played, and the stakes had never been higher. She caught sight of a rather large log and changed her direction. Her narrow head dropped and she plowed faster, putting a little distance between herself and the imps. Her claws dug into the dirt and she glanced back at Liam. Through the bond her actions were clear and Liam gripped tighter in perfect tune with her idea. The oragami air leaped, and only as she soared clean over the girl did she see her. “oh no!” She squealed as she landed damn near on top of Telly. She drew wing hard and skidded to the ground right beside her. Her eyes darted back and forth between the two, then the screeching mass arched over the log. Liam sat up in horror. Now they had done it. They had happened upon some of their fellow graduates. His face showed his shock and then he turned his eyes to the mass of black bodies. “RUN!” He shouted and waved his arms at them. Audere turned and opened her wings. She reared onto her hind legs and gave a hard flap of all four. The wind shaped to her will and grew with the skillful flap shoving a rather intense gust into the mass of bodies. They scattered like the seeds of a dandelion. “Now would be good!” She added with a only mildly remorseful grin. “Sorry to ruin your afternoon!” She landed on all fours. “Come on we need to find cover!” She nearly laughed but she stopped herself. Instead she bolted through the trees hoping the larger crystal female would keep up or was smart enough to get out of there. |

Meira sighed happily as she relaxed and took in the sounds and scents around her. How could a place to lovely and peaceful be as dangerous as others had warned them? The birds sang and it echoed through the trees and her ears sending a warm feeling throughout her. She was so content she did not notice at first when the birds suddenly fell completely silent, but Telluria did. The Crystal raised her elegantly horned head and looked about. Animals falling silent was not a good sign. But it did allow for her to hear the approaching madness. Many little wings as well as the movements of a dragon barreling this way. “Meira…” She began. The girl lazily opened an eye and turned just slightly to look at her. It looked as if the girl was about to protest Telluria’s worried warning tone when the sight and sound of the nimble Air dragon bursting through the growth towards them crushed any other thoughts. The Air leaped over Meira and almost onto Telluria. The Crystal dragon stood up with all her fins and scales on end. “Now what in the world-“ She began, almost sounding angry. But the Air’s rider began screaming for them to run. Meira’s head whipped in time to see the mass of Imps buzzing their way. With a yelp she jumped onto Telluria’s back and the Crystal tore off with the Air pair. Meira gripped at her dragon’s neck like a shocked cat and buries her face in her so as not to even look at the swarm pursuing them. Telluria ran abreast of the Air whom she realized now was her hatchmate, Audere. She did not know her except from lessons, but she was easily recognizable from her paperish deer like appearance. Even as they ran to save their scales and their riders, Telluria saw her companion’s movements were quite deer like. Telluria’s Chaos inherited markings flared and flickered. Dammit they could not take off without being swarmed! Yes they needed shelter, but where? Her head whipped about in desperation as she tore through the brush. Dammit didn’t Imps ever give up? Feeling a tingle, her head whipped to see a dark spot in the distance. Peering as she ran, it did indeed look like a cave! “THERE!” She cried pointing it out with her wing to Audere “Hurry! If we get in fast enough I can seal the entrance!” She pushed herself to go faster and even jumped clear over another long fallen log in her path. It seemed to take longer than she wanted to reach the cave but the relief that she was right and it WAS a cave as well as one big enough to fit them all was such a relief she almost collapsed as she entered. But no time for that now! The second Audere and her rider were inside as well, Telluria spun around and using all the focus she could muster, made the cave entrance begin to shrink from stone and crystal and mineral alike suddenly filling in the opening as quickly as she could. Which was just barely quick enough. For just as the entrance was now just a tiny hole one could peek out of, the Imps crashed into the newly formed wall. Meira recoiled worried they would break through but they did not. It took a few moments for the swarm to recollect itself and fly off in a wave of confusion. Meira collapsed in relief and tried to regain her breath from the fear. Telluria likewise let her head fall to try and rest before looking at the Air pair. “What the heck happened? How did you guys get those things on your tail??” One of her emerald eyes looked out from the small hole in the would be entrance that was now fully blocked off. The Imps were leaving but she knew it would be best to hold tight a while. Furthermore she did not like the look of the clouds gathering as she flew to the jungle before. She may just have to keep Meira here a while more. Meira, in fact, was just now gaining her composure. All she knew was Imps + other dragon pair = run and hide in cave. Now she was looking around to analyze the situation. She too now recognized Audere as a fellow Wyrmling, but had not noticed her rider really up until now. When she was finally able to get a good look at him she gulped a little. No denying he was cute, but Telly would give her a death glare if she took that “too much” into account at this moment. Plus she did not know him well, but depending on how long they’d have to stay in this cave she may need to. Oddly enough, now she responded to the Air’s earlier comment. “Well…I wouldn’t say ruined. It’s not over yet” She said managing a smile at the pair. |

Audere scrambled through the trees glad the crystal pair had the good sense to join them in running. She really didn’t want casualties for her curiosity. Yet the added participant made the run all more thrilling. It was one thing having Liam along for the ride, another thing all together to have someone else privy to her madcap games. Her stilt like legs powered under her and she drove herself at the hip of the larger dragoness. Telluria wasn’t all that much bigger than the traditional air in size, but when set next to the paper dragoness she looked massive. The whip like frame of the sleek green dragoness appeared even more fragile by comparison. They both still had a bit of growing to do before they filled into their adult bodies and while Telluria looked like she would fill out into a wonderful example of her breed, Audere looked like she would be lucky to put on a pound or two. The nimble air turned when her hatchmate did, drawing herself around a tree and posting off the trunk of another. The struck tree vibrated under her weight and a few birds scattered from its branches, screeching in confusion. A laugh bubbled from Audere’s lips, unable to be stopped. How could anyone not have fun in a situation like this. Liam was not nearly as impressed. What with the horrible chattering grey cloud of wings and teeth behind them. But even with a few missing feathers and a scratch or two on her rider Audere hardly seemed put off. The cave opened before them just as Telly had perdicted and the air darted past the crystal with a few loping bounds that only added to her deer like charm. She shuffled towards the back just as the barrier went up. Imps pelted against the semi translucent door. Little hands reached through the tiny hole ever grasping at them. Sure they were stopped the air couldn’t help but get a closer look. She trotted forward and stared through the crystals, which warped those little monsters on the other side making them look comical. Her grin showed she was enjoying the chaos she had left in her wake. “Wow I can’t believe we lost them! I was starting to think we might be running all over the forest for days! And look at this wall. Nice work back there!” She rounded on the crystal female as the imps began to settle. They lazed about outside the entrance and in nearby trees, waiting to see if the dragons would exit the cave any time soon. Liam sat up in the saddle and rolled off Audere’s narrow spine. His body ached a bit from clinging so desperately on the ground. Her frame was bony and even with a saddle between them when she got running he was jostled by every joint and point she had. “Audere decided we should learn what the inside of an imp nest looks like.” He said grimly and pulled a few leaves and twigs out of his hair. He rubbed at a scratch on his neck unhappily and eyed the other pair curiously. He had seen them in lessons but there were so many wyrmlings it was hard to keep them all straight. It did not help he had not attended any of the outside meet ups either. The air chuffed at him and spread her wings so she could assess her own damage. “Oh come on it wasn’t that bad. I mean have there ever been a higher stakes game of tag? Well unless you are playing with a taint and I do not recommend that.” She smiled coyly and preened a feather or two back into place. Meira’s comment was met with a cheeky grin and she pranced over to her looking content. “See she gets it Liam! Still a lot of day to be had. You think there is anything exciting deeper in this cave?” Her crest rose high above her horns and she dug her crimson claws into the hard stone ground. Liam looked even less enthusiastic as he rubbed his shoulder and stared into the darkness that lead further into the cave. “Well there could be something exciting. There could also be an angry basilisk. We should stay put until the imps leave then return the way we came.” Audere rolled her eyes and glanced at Meira. “You see what I have to put up with. Such a spoil sport.” She ruffled the over long red feathers on her rump and sat down. “Oh my where are my manners! We should introduce ourselves. I am Audere. This unfortunately sour chap is my chosen Liam.” She indicated with a flick of her wing flashing vibrant feathers to the crystal pair. “Sorry for the trouble. It was just a bit of innocent fun I swear.” With a scowl Liam adjusted his pack and eyed his dragon. “Really I am very sorry. She didn't mean to get them chasing us. It really was an accident.” His eyes fixed on the door and he sighed. “It doesn’t look like they will be leaving soon. Perhaps you are right Audere. Our best way out is forward…” The dragoness perked up at the mention of exploring further. |

Meira was still recovering from the adrenaline and even Telluria was breathing a bit more noticeable than usual. But the Crystal dragon could not help but raise a brow at the happy go lucky Air’s upbeat take on it all. Not that it was a bad thing, but this dragon was even more-so than Meira! “Inside of an Imp nest?” She asked. “Well I can understand if it was an old abandoned one but it is very difficult to determine that since they live anywhere” She explained in an almost but not quite scolding tone. Meira looked to Liam and mouthed ‘book worm’ to describe her dragon. Of course she did it with a smile as she of course did not see it as a bad thing. But she smiled more and even giggled as Audere backed her up. She looked down a ways as the cave stretched out back into darkness. Surely there would be some form of lighting? She wished one of their companions was a Fire or Celestial…granted the cave may not be big enough for one. Telluria just sighed and looked forward into the deepening cave “Well, if you two are in favor of the idea-“ She began speaking to Liam and Audere “We may as well get started and head down to see if it opens up again. But listen here Meira, if I feel it does not, we are heading back and I am opening this entry way again, clear? That will at least give more time for the Imps to fully disperse.” “Yes Telly” Meira said as if she was speaking to her Aunt. But this time she opted to not mount her dragon. Instead traveling at her feet. Telluria allowed this as it would ensure easier protection of her rider. But she did notice Meira positioning herself so she was closer to the Air pair. Well, the girl was social, Telluria just accepted it. She just hoped it would come out well. Sure enough it was dark, but there seemed to be somewhat of a natural lighting within this cave. Telluria assumed it was phosphorus or something similar. Meira noticed as well but opted to turn her attention to her classmates whom she did not have a chance to know yet. “Apologies, we should have introduced ourselves. I’m Meira, and my dragon is Telluria. I’m sorry I haven’t been more social during our lessons, Telly seems to take over for the thinking during class time” She smiled and felt the Crystal dragon snort in both amusement and slight annoyance. But she knew it was true! Meira kept on the line of thought for conversations, now was her time. “We’re still wondering what we’ll do now that we’re all graduated. You guys excited too?” |

Audere rolled back to her feet and stilted her way towards her crystal companion with a coy smile. “Well it wasn’t my intention, but once the sides gave in it was an educational experience. Did you know they live in swarms?” “You don’t say.” Liam added dryly pulling an eye roll from the bright green dragoness. His eyes drifted to Meira then to Telluria thoughtfully. He didn’t comment though as he couldn’t claim anything different. He was just thinking just how nice it would be to be sitting with his tomes instead of trapped in a cave waiting for a swarm of angry imps to pass. Well at least he came prepared. He held up a hand. “Just a moment.” Carefully he removed the large pack that had dominated his back and set it down. He pulled a lantern off of it and lit it with a bit of flint. He held it up with a scowl and stared into the depths of the cave they were heading in to. “At least we will have some light for this.” The pack was returned to his back and he rose to his feet. He stared at their hatchmates a bit better with some light on their features. Telluria was an attractive female, and a crystal at that which was quite the incredible sight. He felt bad for getting them involved in his own dragon’s antics. Audere perked up, her narrow ears flicking upwards and she strutted forward, “We are completely in favor. Come on this is going to be a good time. I am sure there will be another entrance. We can follow the air right? I mean I can sense a breeze from deeper in, which means there has to be air coming from somewhere. Breezes don’t just crop up out of nowhere. Unless there is another air living in this cave. Which I doubt.” She looked playfully at the group. The origami dragoness set off at a high stepping trot, pausing when she drew too far ahead. Her feathers ruffled and she waited contently. “Really good to meet you both. We don’t get out much. Well that is a lie. I get out plenty. My rider likes to lock himself in dark rooms and stare at scrolls. This has to be pretty nice for you Liam. A lot like home, dark and quiet.” She beamed at him looking perfectly innocent despite her playful teasing. “Pleasure to meet you.” He added carefully. Liam forced a smile back at her, “I do not spend that much time in doors.” Audere slowed her speed until she fell in line and looked sadly to Meira, “He really needs to make more friends how about you two be friends.” She bumped him with her shoulder sending him Stumbling sideways right into the girl, not very hard but he turned slightly red and his frustration mounted as he stabilized the lantern. The paper dragoness did her best not to laugh but the mirthful smile on her lips showed she felt no shame in her actions. “Audere honestly!” He sighed, somewhat defeated. “I am sorry about all of this.” He said at length to their companions. The air didn’t seem to notice his aggravation, or if she did she pointedly ignored it. Her eyes fixated ahead as the path branched three ways. For a moment she trotted from entrance to entrance humming tunelessly to herself then she settled on the right one. “This one seems to have the best current though the middle one also has a breeze. What do you three think?” |

Telluria still looked at Audere with a touch of a scolding elder even as she gave her explanation. Not that she disliked the Air, but goodness, such reckless actions! The Crystal sighed and looked at Audere with a softer expression. “Well yes, I did know, I have read up on them and other creatures. If you do some research I am sure you can learn in a much safer way than experimentation. BUT you have learned now and that is what’s important. Just please be more careful, you could have put your rider in grave danger. And I do apologize for my forwardness, I have not had to run for my life before.” “Well I have” Meira suddenly said in a tone far more serious than Telluria had ever heard her use. And immediately the dragon knew why. The guilt made the Crystal dragon shiver. They did not talk of Meira’s past unless Meira spoke of looking for her mother. Still, Telluria tried often to not bring it up. She hated seeing the lovely happy girl with any hint of sadness in her eyes. “Meira my dear, I am sorry. I know what happened to you and your family-“ “Telly, it is fine” She said in her more usual friendly tone. “I’m just saying let’s not be upset over this. I’m not! We haven’t had much excitement in our lives together yet, here’s a chance!” She smiled at Audere but her attention was distracted by Liam after his own sarcastic chime which made her chuckle. As he lit the lantern with the Flint stone, she felt it was surely more than luck that he happened to have that with him on this day. “Wow! Bless you! I really should be more prepared myself. I’m glad it was you guys who ran into us running from those Imps!” Again she inwardly cursed, did she sound annoying? But she perked up a little at Audere and could not help but giggle “That’s funny. That actually sounds like my Telly!” At her rider’s words, the Crystal dragon flapped her wings as if mildly offended. “Well now what is wrong with reading and learning?” Telluria said stepping beside Liam in defense. Besides, who brought the light eh? One of us bookworms!” She said with a draconic smirk and even a light pat on Liam’s back with her wing talon. Which seemed to work out as Audere was rallying behind Meira. Meira in fact was about to respond to the Air dragon with enthusiasm on making friends when suddenly Liam was gently pushed into her. Meira on reflex put up her hands to catch him, and could not help but notice how nice he smelled. Which made her turn a little red as well. “Oh don’t be sorry it’s ok really!” She tried to assure him but Liam was now occupied steadying his lantern and suddenly Meira felt like a burden as she did not know anything about caves and had no ability like the dragons did. “Well, I trust you Audere. You can track air currents better than any of us I think!” Even Telluria knew the Air had an advantage here even more than she did. Sure she could change the structure of materials around her but how would that help? Unless they found a wall think enough to be broken if she changed the structure, but from the look of the cave that was unlikely. “Very well” She began “Audere you can lead with Liam, I’m the tallest so I can take up the rear just in case. But I worry about food and water if we can’t get out soon.” She sighed, sure the situation wasn’t dire but it wasn’t exactly good. With a shudder Meira felt she needed to get away from her dragon’s stern more negative vibes so she took up a place between Liam and Audere. But her main focus was geared toward Liam since he seemed the most unhappy in the given situation. “Is…is there anything I can do to be of use? I kinda feel like I’m the ball and chain here” She said with a chuckle to indicate light heartedness, though she did mean what she said. |

Audere looked back without a hint of shame. She batted her large pale eyes and grinned toothily. Why should she be ashamed? She had enjoyed it, even if she was missing a few feathers. Well she did feel a little bad about the cuts Liam had sustained, but she wasn’t about to let it dampen the thrill she got from the activity as a whole. What was a bit of fun without a little risk after all? Besides just because the crystal didn’t know what proper fun looked like didn’t mean that the jaunty little air couldn’t teach her. She was an excellent coach in fun, after all. “Well what good is reading if you never do anything with the knowledge you gained? I mean you can read forever and never actually experience anything. You just gain a head full of adventure and no outlet for your body. That sounds like a conflict of self. I would much rather learn by doing. You know getting my claws dirty, being out in the thick of things. Doesn’t reading about the exciting stuff just make you want to go put your nose in a scutla hole? Or see a sun bird nest?” Her crest peaked and she dug her little red toes into the ground beaming at the very idea. She would have to try that at some point. Maybe if she stole an egg Liam would be forced to spend more time outside raising his new pet. She glanced to the boy but quickly realized how bad an idea that might be. He wasn’t exactly equipped to take care of himself much less a baby bird. Hell the boy often forgot to eat he was so engrossed in other things. She did quiet at the seriousness of the crystal pair however and her crest lowered a little. Shrewd Liam noticed the shift and shrugged. “Running for your life is going to be a common event if you choose to join a wing, at least fighting for it.” It was not exactly reassuring, but it was something. He frowned, seeming to understand that it had not been the proper thing to say in this situation, but he really had no better idea how to help. Gods above could he be any worse with other people? He sighed and glanced to Audere and the easy way she talked with complete strangers. “Ah yes.” He added shifting his pack and holding the lantern a little higher. “This is not the first time Audere has steered us into a less then favorable situation. I figure I should be prepared for our future outings.” He flashed her an awkward smile. Audere rolled her eyes, “This isn’t that bad. We are safe. This cave is huge and new to us. We are making friends, you are out of the library, I don’t see how this could have turned out any better given the circumstances.” “Circumstances you perpetrated.” He reminded casually, which drew a rather annoyed look from the slender dragoness. Audere rolled her eyes again as they came back to the idea of book worms verses the more adventurous halves of the pairs. She heaved a dramatic sigh and shook her head. “We will never get through to them Meira. Might as well let it go. They are too set in their scrolls to give reality a glance.” Liam bristled but decided it was better to let it go then to start a fight. He glanced up at Telly with an apologetic look, as if somehow he could excuse his dragon’s behavior, but Aurdere would do as she would. The little female was not one to be turned aside from her ideas. The dragoness pranced from tunnel to tunnel as if thinking. Her nostrils flared and her pupils widened trying to scour the deep darkness but there was nothing of any interest down either of the tunnels. “Then we will take this one.” She indicated the one with the heaviest air flow with a claw and pranced her way along it looking quite pleased with herself. The minimal feathers along her form ruffled up in pleasure at getting to call the shots. It made her feel important. Liam hung back with Meira and watched the paper dragoness trot along as if nothing in the world were wrong with their current situation. She was just looking for a good time, a dragon in search of her next big thrill. It was from this chain of thought the girl’s voice pulled him and he glanced over looking confused at first. Then realization dawned on his features. “Oh here.” He offered her the lantern.” Carry the light for now if that helps. I do not mind carrying the pack and if it gets too heavy I am sure Audere wouldn’t mind taking it on. Sorry we got you into this. I really am. Cave exploring was not high on my list of things to do today.” |

So sayeth the Spider

Heavens above the Air reminded Telluria of an excited Greyhound the way she pranced and bounced about! It almost made her dizzy. But as much as Telluria disliked being forced to admit it…the Air had a point. Knowledge was rather pointless if it was never useful. But it never hurt to have all that you could gain. And Knowledge was one thing you could be greedy with that would not harm anyone by learning more. At least in Telluria’s way of thinking anyhow. Also the experiences Telluria sought were more centered around beauty and self discovery, perhaps some skill as well. So seeing a bird’s nest would indeed be a treat, but all the same the Crystal would prefer adventures that did not put others or herself in danger. With the Imps gone, the next potential threat was getting out of this cave safely. Meira could not help but giggle a little. Liam and Audere seemed the very opposite of she and Telluria. Their bond must have been forged with the same stuff and Meira could not help but feel drawn to it. She took the lantern when Liam handed it to her and shrugged off his apology. “Really it’s alright! I’m a bit excited. I’d be afraid but you’re here with us” She smiled but then looked away a little embarrassed “I hope that did not sound too forward” Meira said clearing her throat before they trudged on. Telluria often touched the walls as they walked. She let Audere lead since the Air dragon would sense any currents in the cave of course. But she herself wondered of perhaps she found some soft enough stone, if it meant a way out was possible with some ‘adjustments’ When the material surrounding them only seemed to become thicker and thicker, Telluria sighed a little. “Not to sound grim, but just in case we do not find a clear way out, does anyone have any ideas on how to send for aid? If we must go back we must but those Imps won’t be far.” The only response she got was the sound of a growling stomach. Turning her head she was able to see Meira looking quite embarrassed. “Sorry” The girl said quietly. Telluria sighed again, sure they could go a while without food but the longer they stayed here, the more uncomfortable it would be. “Audere. If you do not feel any currents soon I think we may need to stop and ponder other options…if we have any that is” Her eyes went again to her rider. Dammit she could not be so negative in her presence. “I mean other than going just one way” She added. Meira just smiled. “It’s alright Telly. There’s no way we’d be trapped in here forever!” Meira laughed as if the idea was preposterous. She just walked beside Liam now trying hard to think of good conversation starters. While she normally had a knack for such things, for some reason she was having trouble at the moment. “So tell me, er…What’s your story? How’d you end up on the sands of fate so to speak?” |
