BOTANY
I'm workin' on it, BUT IT'S GOING HERE SOONIhopethisisn'tcheating.

Character Number- 8th- second adoptable

Name- Gwarae Sedamaiz

Age- 18 (ie STILL YOUNG ENOUGH TO MAKE REALLY BAD DECISIONS)

Gender- Female

Sexuality- She’s straight, but I swear to you she will /flirt/ with anyone.

Appearance- Short, whip-thin, and fox-like, Rae just /looks/ like someone who would be looking to cause some trouble. She wears her hair (which is red, only adding to the foxiness) short and scruffy, as would perhaps befit her personality, although she tends to keep it an intentional sort of scruffy, and not a “I got in a fight with a lawnmower and lost” sort of scruffy. She wore it long, awhile ago, but then it got lit on fire by some silly bonfire, and she decided it might be wisest to chop it off short. Her eyes are green/brown, but light enough as to almost look yellowish. Her features are all sharp, somehow, though they match her petite stature perfectly. She’s about average strength for her size, which is to say she has some muscle but she’s certainly not going to be kicking much of anyone’s butt.

Watching Rae could honestly get tiring for the average person, because she seems to have something against /sitting still/ unless she’s sleeping. She’s always tapping, or kicking a foot, or /something/ to keep herself entertained. Her movements are quick, not the least bit fluid or graceful, and she’s annoyingly fast, as small people are wont to be. She’s agile, for all of her lack of grace, and not easy to catch unless she’s going to let herself get caught. Though she’s fully aware that she’s no one’s idea of beautiful, she likes (loves) to flirt (with everyone) and she does, if nothing else, have a nice smile. Her features definitely leave her more on the ‘cute’ than ‘sexy’ side of things, but she uses what gifts she has.

Personality- Rae is outgoing, chatty perhaps to a fault, almost perpetually cheerful, and generally friendly. She has many friends, but she is also a bit of a vagabond, so she has never really had very close friends. Her general approach to any situation is very ‘you only live once’, which you can imagine has landed her up in some less-than-ideal situations. She’s been on the wrong side of peoples’ girlfriends (and sometimes, boyfriends) for being an incurable flirt, and okay, yes, sometimes she gets a little carried away and she /may/ have woken up in a bed she didn’t remember falling asleep in /once or twice/ with someone she maybe only half recognized but seriously how can you blame her, really. And it’s not like anyone /died/, geez.

So Gwarae is, generally, genuinely happy with her lot in life, because life is an adventure and even if you can’t live the way she does and expect to live for long, it’s sure fun trying. And if she’s perhaps a little overly-exuberant in the way she lives her life, well, everyone has things they’d like to forget. Gwarae forgets hers by surrounding herself with people and exciting things and adventure and the occasional decision she absolutely regrets and would absolutely make again. If forced to be still and quiet for an extended period of time, she quickly becomes depressed, caught up in past tragedies that she couldn’t prevent and couldn’t fix. She is only too happy to avoid addressing any of her feelings regarding her past or anything else, for that matter, though she has occasional moments of sincerity, usually when she’s tired (or drunk).

Rank- Taint Wyrmling

History- Both of Rae’s parents were descended from noble families, though only her mother was royal, and as a result she lived a blessed childhood, lacking for nothing. She had all the toys a child could want, and her own horse, and though her father wasn’t often home, her mother was, and she had friends in the town near her family’s estate. When her father was home, they often went riding, or he taught her how to fight—first with little wooden knives, but eventually with real knives—or let her show him what books she’d read or the pretty rocks she’d found while exploring the forest with her friends. They were a happy family, and then her dad left to serve in their lord’s contingent of soldiers in the fight against the Taints and didn’t come back. Rae’s mother was given an ultimatum: she could marry the lord’s brother, or they could be kicked off the land that, by law, passed to either the closest male relative of her father or, failing that, the lord himself. Rather than subject her daughter to such a life of hardship and uncertainty, Rae’s mother married the lord’s brother.

That, even, could have turned out well, had the man not been an abusive, angry drunk, prone to hitting her mother when she didn’t give him what he wanted, no matter what that was. Gwarae asked, once, with the innocence of a 10-year-old, why they didn’t just leave, but by then the man had taken control of their lives. They wouldn’t have suitable clothes to run in, and they had nowhere to go. The man and his brother both had allies who would willingly hunt them down and, while Rae’s mom would have risked her own life in such an endeavor, she wouldn’t risk the life of her daughter.

One night, Rae’s stepfather came home especially drunk, and immediately started harassing her mom, scolding her for the state of the house, for Rae’s clothes, for Rae’s manners, for things he couldn’t justifiably scold her about. When he cornered her, Rae snuck to her room. She returned with something her father had given her—a knife every bit as deadly as the day he’d received it from his own father. Rae demanded her stepfather leave her mother alone, and he advanced on her instead, stumbling and weaving from all the drink.

Rae isn’t sure, to this day, how exactly it happened, but the man stumbled and pitched forward as if he would fall on her. Without thinking, she curled into a ball, knife held where it couldn’t cut her, point out. There was a thud, her stepfather landed half on top of her, and Rae squirmed back out of the way as the man thrashed, yanking her knife from her hand as he rolled over, the hilt protruding from his chest.

There isn’t much that Rae remembers from the days following that. Her mother made her run, because she knew the man’s brother would have no sympathy, for all that Rae was only a 12-year-old girl at the time. Rae pretended she was an apprentice (and a boy) to make her life easier, and learned parts of various trades, helping wherever she could in exchange for some money, or at least food and a place to sleep. She learned that it was easier to pretend she was happy than deal with awkward questions and pity, even when she heard just months after running that a woman had been put to death in a neighboring town for killing her nobleman husband. Eventually, out of self-preservation, she managed to actually /be/ happy, finding that when she surrounded herself with friendly acquaintances and travel, she could avoid thinking about her past at all. So she became a vagabond and a flirt and was as outgoing as she’d always been. She developed a devil-may-care attitude about most things, living life to its absolute fullest because she knew how fast it could go to crap.

Someone told her that there were dragons on some sort about to hatch on an island while she was traveling, and because it sounded interesting, she made her way there! The dragons were both amazing and horrifying, and she was beginning to question the wisdom of her decision when the hatching happened. She didn’t have time to leave before she was shuffled into a herd of other candidates, and waited with mixed bemusement and nervousness while egg after egg hatched, some of them definitely more horrible than others. And then a funny little creature rocketed out of his shell and pranced across the sands, seeming to carefully consider (and, once, /taste/) the other candidates. His odd appearance and apparent joy at the world (and that hilarious /tongue/) made Rae laugh, but she didn’t expect him to fling himself into her arms. Nonetheless, he did, and she found herself bonded to a Taint dragon. Life did take new and interesting turns, indeed.

Pet(s)- Nope!

The Dragon

Name- Jar

Age- 3 months

Gender- Male

Element- Mycotic (Forest)

Appearance- Borrowed from hatching post: “In varying shades of dull green, he was narrowly built in the front, but his back legs did not seem skimpy on the meat, and his tail was a thick, short, upturned bob. Obscuring most of his head and the whole of his front half, a strange, woolen gathering of swiftly burgeoning fungal growths took over his skin. They were seemingly fluffed and strangely plush looking from afar, but, upclose, the ‘wool’ was just a heavily overlaid mess of fat mushroom fingers with a flowering body settled on top. His face was thin in construction, and, flaring off from the sides, dark horns curved upwards in carving crescents. Between these horns, horn-like projections rose upward, but, from how they bent backwards and forwards with his movements, it was clear they were actually some sort of fungus aswell. Farther down, tusks of grey rose up from the sides of his mouth under neon dark green overlayed eyes. Whiskers, presumably of fungus, whisped past his nostrils beyond a swath of red over his face, and his long tongue seemed to constantly lol out of his mouth like a ribbon. It was incredibly long and bright green with blue divits, and, from his show so far, he seemed keen on the idea of licking things to claim them as his own.”

His crystal is a Prehnite rosette located on his throat, an olive green to match his other colors. He sometimes festoons his deer-like fungal horns with pretty scarves, and his eyes are black and an astounding bright green.

Personality- Jar just wants to explore and have adventures and stick his nose everywhere (especially if it doesn’t belong there) and drag his rider around causing trouble and doing Exciting Things. He’s easily excited, and incurably curious. What he lacks in forethought, he makes up for with enthusiasm, and while he isn’t necessarily the sharpest tool in the shed, he’s plenty sharp enough to get himself and his rider into a load of trouble. He would like to make friends with many people, and spread the joy of his maybe slightly hallucinogenic mycotic talents. He loves his rider because she is his partner-in-crime and as equally irresponsible in her decision-making as him. His general approach to any situation is “You only live once”.

Jar has an amusing habit of laying claim to things by licking them. He frequently licks new things to see if they have a taste, up to and including people, dragons, rocks, trees, porcupines… Rae has tried to break him of this habit for his own good but so far as not had much luck. Perhaps the only thing he has learned is that sharp things will stab him and hot things will burn him. He has yet to meet winter, but someday he will probably stick that impossible tongue of his to something cold and metal and the whole world will hear about it.

He’d really rather have fun with something than attack it, and as such his first approach in any fight is to get people to chill the hell out by introducing him to the spores that are the hallmark of his breed. Unlike some Mycotics, though, his are mostly just strongly hallucinogenic. He could kill you with them, and he will if he has to, but seriously bro, just chilllllll. Look at the pretty colors. Check that cloud, it totally looks like a squirrel with a party hat.
