Character Number- Technically my second, if anyone remembers Lance and Salerin. Name- Lyris Emptin Age- 24 Gender- Male Sexuality- "Well now, that's none of your business, is it?" Appearance- Lyris well built form is thanks to all the hard work over the years. Green eyes are hidden behind shoulder length hair that is longer when it is out of a ponytail. Shaven and well kept, he bares all the hallmarks of a man who grew up working with the land. Almost every part of him has been strengthened through life from fingers to feet. He hold many scars and nicks scattered across his form. Certain cuts are constantly ribbed about by a certain dragon. He has a strong sense of balance and no matter the terrain his footing is sure.. While not as dirty looking as he used to be, something about his form just reveals the history of his upbringing, of what he used to do before growing up to be more than his past life. His ruby stone is kept in a bracelet around his right wrist, facing downwards, rather than upwards. Despite being surefooted, Lyris is not quick to his feet, and his reflexes can be slow. Four swords sit at his hips, the top two jewel tipped hilts, and are standard dual edge short swords while the lower two are proper long swords. The rig is attached to his belt, held in its shape by a pair of steel pieces, the short blades nearly horizontal while the long swords are raised at less of an angle than the shorts. He does not burn easily, almost always seeming to hold his lightly tanned white skin. He is almost always found in somewhat well fitting semi-formal clothing. Personality- One might wonder what kind of upbringing this soul had in their younger years. He has the attention span of a scholar, the focus and drive of a blacksmith, but coming from none of those roles. In actuality, He is the son of a farmer, who's strength came from many a year of working upon a farm, providing food for Queen and country. But their farm being so far from most signs of civilization rendered the farm fending for itself in a number of ways, from critters and human predators, to bandits seeking easy meals. And thus, he was introduced to the concept of life, death and the afterlife at a young age. No hands could ever be idle in any situation, no matter their age. Perhaps because he was bred with the knowledge or if it was his own desire to, Lyris always wanted more. Perhaps not more than his physical keep, but knowledge. And thus, whenever he got the chance, he snuck away. While his father did not approve, his mother covered his tracks, claiming his weeklong disappearances were him staying in the far out cabins at the edges of their property, working on the fields afar, whereas in reality, the trips to the capital that left him in stunned awe for it's size, it's resources and how everyone thought of things just a little differently. They had always grown up with the resources and his family had not. The 'waste' he saw was merely normal, and even in his proper age he still hasn't quite gotten used to it. He still does, on occasion, make stealthy exits from places during which times he thinks he can be doing something more useful. Rank- Unassigned Spine healer History- He lived on a farm that was a large tract of property and one almost needed a day to cover from his home to the out reaching borders. This was his and his family's home. Since birth, his job in many a way was to provide for the people. They grew food; it kept the country well fed. They provided the material for fabric; it kept the country warm and clothed. They provided hope that there would always be food and someone, even if nothing else lasted, would continue to provide. He and his brother worked as hard as they could. His brother was the one who desired naught else but the work the land provide. Lyris was the prodigal son; he was the one who yearned for more than his farm. While he knew his father would not approve, he hesitated to tell his mother, whom he feared would share the same reaction to his requests to visit the capital they provided for. One night, she made the arrangements, and that morning, he was given a chore. The work was located on the edge of the property and because the chore would take longer than a day, Lyris was given the shack to stay in for a week. The work was menial and the farm would easily survive if it was not done, but it "was work that needed to be done" nonetheless. However, Lyris never did the chore. With the given opportunity, he had a week to skip out and see what the real world really had to offer. And the world did offer him sights; from things he had never even considered to the dragons they never saw as far out from civilization as they were. Because of his youth, he turned to sneaking into the library to read all he could. Or at least until he was caught on his second night by his own carelessness, and promptly informed that if all he wanted to do was to sample the works, he was more than welcome to read during the day, instead. Feeling Chastened, he did return during normal hours. By the time the week was up, he was yearning for more and he felt like he would never get the chance again. But his mother seemed more than happy to assist, though not as quickly as he desired. Once a month he was able to visit the city. He would stay for as long as a week if he got lucky and his visits were almost monthly. He made these trips two years after hitting his teenage years. Balancing two lives became something of a full time act, something he became increasingly good at. He worried though, that those in the city would look down on him. He was following his desires, and not his duties. But he continued to learn and visit, he continued to lead two lives. After his days in the library, Lyris began to work on his swordplay. Slowly, his skill sharpened that eventually he could wield two blades. He knew that dragons were like living and breathing people, that they were highly intelligent. One late afternoon, before he was due to travel back home, he decided to train, and he wanted to spar with someone. So he turned to the crowd. But the spectator that he had chosen was a dragon. A dragon whom had come to see what was going. Even though the smallest dragons were deadly, Lyris had it in his mind to spar. In his mind, Dragons were just people. With the source determined, and nothing else better to do, the forest merely watched, silently, until the boy realized. Not sure what to say, nor how long he had been watched for, and sinking quickly into embarrassment, he offered the dragon the only thing he could think of at the time. A spar. While a bit taken aback, the drake saw little reason to object. While hardly the most conventional of requests, and despite the human's smaller stature, it was not such a crazy idea as one might have thought off the bat. Dragons engaged infantry targets often, and infantry targets did their best to fight back. They tried to stall the dragons for others to escape. Perhaps this dragon thought that was why he was asking, mistaking him for general army, and thinking that his request was out of concern for his own friends who would fight beside him. Taking on a human opponent with deadly weapons is a scare for most anyone, even if only training. But his opponent was not human. And to most, this would make it even scarier. While having no hope of ever winning said fight, he at least committed himself with honor, the scrapes, cuts and bruises that came from dueling nearly a ton of armored scaled critter showed in ways he could never hide them. Caught between the claws of the dragon, Lyris’s swords shattered. It was a foolish maneuver for Lyris. However, it was a mistake Lyris learned from. Despite returning that day and having his escapade revealed, he was not worried. He was only filled with a great joy at what he had accomplished. Defeated, his father made an arrangement. He was given money, and a year. He either made something of his life in the city, or he returned, and stayed content with this life, with his family until the day he died. And in that year, he found Besallra, the Rosemary who became his partner. Even despite his earlier years and the mistakes he learned from, he never stopped his swordplay, nor choosing opponents of the scaled variety. He made it his hallmark and his contribution to society. In need of a healing pair, Lyris was quickly urged into studies of health, both dragon and humankind, something he tried his best to learn on the move when the pair were reassigned to make up for the loss of a rosemary further south at a Sekkian outpost. While his presence as another pair of hands was appreciated, the pair was forced to come into their own in a trial by fire more than once. Tainted exploration forces tried more than once to wrest the control of that small tower from Sekkian control, which would have exposed a large border of area to enemy attack without an alarm raised until it was far too late. Even fighting a truly no-longer-humane enemy, he had better upbringing than most. Deep, deep in his mind he buried the knowledge. All they were were money hungry bandits. All they wanted was some food so they didn't have to work for it. Gold, so they didn't have to work. They were robbers, nothing more, nothing less. And so he still thinks of this to the present day, trying, desperately to repress the knowledge of what the Tainted really are. And still struggling with the threat, the warning, because that is something he could become. To throw away everything and anything he had ever loved or fought for. And that, he says, is why he fights. And so, the story goes on... Pet(s)- None The Dragon Name- Besallra Age- 5 Gender- Female Element- Rosemary Appearance- Frilly and feathered, some might point out, though that's not most of her form. The drake blends from a solid, blood red across her back, which flows down to a vibrant violet from sides to underbelly, much like a split species of rose. Yellow and black markings make up most of the rest of the color, running across scales and quilled feathers that wrap around ankles, the mane and crest at the base of the neck. Expansive wings and long deadly black talons like thorns at the base of her fingers and toes, and feathers that lengthen, growing horizontally from the base of the tail, growing outwards to a foot long either side, similar in design to a peacocks, though perfectly straight. She was born with the ruby stone between two wings. With angular tail and standing eight feet tall at the shoulder and sixteen feet long nose to the base of the tail, she's naturally equipped with a great deal of natural weapons, the whip-like tail capable of cracking through the air with speed of movement, something she might use to get attention in an argument., ruby red eyes to match her upper scales. Wings are a lavender shade, but almost see through, which betrays their thickness. Personality- Even though a fifth of the age of her partner, she considers herself to be more mature than him in almost every way. She is a much more progressive thinker, considering actions, reactions and all the possibilities. Not worried about social interaction in the slightest, always happy to make her opinion known and not afraid to call one out as it were if they were wrong. She is confident enough to know her topics, and more than willing to back down if proven wrong. Perhaps only merely tolerates the antics of her rider, although the two have gotten quite skilled at combating one another, making them a frequent sight in and around the armory. But the one thing they share in common, even if little else is their thirst, beyond powerful desire to learn and become more than what they are, which always leads to interesting, powerful arguments between the two scholars. However, she is a friendly dragon, nonetheless. While often caught stalking the library for a book (Small enough to fit gives a fair few a right shock!),She can also be found snaking about the gardens indulging in the scents of plants. Friendly, always one to strike up a chat, even where one is not needed. She is a kind soul, though that seemed to have been a genetic thing rather than an upbringing, with a pleasant bedside manner, and very empathic, always eager and trying to solve other's problems and make the best of out her life. Looks good at the heart! However, there are quite a few run-ons and misplaced phrases. Please fix those. It may help to put it in a program like Microsoft Word and let it underline the heavy parts. Also, I'd like you to explain a little more on two things: 1. Why would a dragon, who knew he was more deadly than a human, spar with said human. And why would the human suddenly want to spar out of the blue anyhow? 2. Give a little more backstory on what happened after the pair bonded. If they've been around this long, they would have been in the war against the tainted. How did that affect him/them? What are their goals now? Also, what wing rank are they going for? |
