The Rider

Character Number: Zero Zero One

Name: Verucia Strayed (Ifreet, Aelun'aldra)

Age: 16 yr, 5 mo

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Asexual

Appearance: Verucia is five feet, three inches and about a hundred and seven pounds. She is pale-skinned with almost white hair naturally, but it has gradient falls of red, purple and black in the lower parts. Her nails are usually sparkling white. Her eyes are slate like the walls of the Frozen Wastes, wide-eyed, but half-closed unless in the most extreme moments of excitement. She has gold rings in her bottom lip, studs in the bridge of her nose and black bars going through the cartilage of her ears, reminiscent of the tribal "badge of merit" nature of the old Veruc.
Verucia wears a brown gi over a beige tee, black and red half-cloak mantle, speckled white skinny leggings with black taper bands and open-toe, semi-high heeled, gray metal boots with a curved plate where the shin connects with the foot. This is her primary scholarly outfit. Though, sometimes she will just wear a shoulderless loose-fit white robe with a heavy lavender sash, similar leggings and less combative footwear, also usually heeled and open-toed unless the situation calls otherwise. She does not go anywhere without a large leather-back tome fastened to a black leather strap, which she uses to carry it hanging from her shoulder.
Verucia x Maron's crystal is licorice-purple and has a hexagonal molecular alignment. It is located on her neck vertebrae where it is embedded.

Personality: Strayed is a very quiet "wall-flower" kind of person disinterested in the musings or machinations of others. While she actually seems quite stoic, her will is generally weaker than Maron's due to how shallow she is and thus her personality reflects his own the more he exerts his physical self. The two share a sort of weird kind of symbiotic relationship. She is a gifted individual with an open mind to, who pursues higher knowledge. She is also a magnet for details who can pick up on them second-nature and run through several carefully formulated plans or scenarios in an instant. Not just because of her savant nature and "outsider" status, she is not one to socialize much - unless the will of Maron has gripped tightly on her subconscious.
Alone, Verucia is a fearless monument, a catalyst of decisiveness and no remorse. Her choices, once made, are set in stone unchanged by all but the most dire of circumstances and swiftest recourses. Together, she is just as cynical and confusing as he. In unison, they make the ultimate killing machine, driven seemingly by madness and finality. When they're not locked in combat, Verucia is still quirky and random and odd, if not just completely silent. Her lack of socialization early on has not contributed in a positive way to her esteem, but Maron's ability to break past those metaphorical barriers with sheer unconcern for consequence or fear allows her to still be social, be it in her own awkward way like him.

Rank: Scholar of Astronomy, Science & Geology

Biography: 201 B.B.R.. Since the days of old when man first begun hunting and slaying the ancient dragons, great clans had formed and prospered in the wastelands to the frozen North, on the hidden isles called Veruc. At the center of this mainland, the Verucian clans built several spires over an underground city of the ancients. This capital became known as Stroud, and the aristocracy flourished there. Eventually, the practice of gaming and hunting dragons was born. Of these tall spires in the Verucian mountains, the greatest became home to the stolen clutches and preserved corpses of dragons, and was watched by only the highest of noble families. As time progressed, the rulership of Stroud, and all of Veruc, became dynastic. One day, the the Spires of Stroud were infiltrated and the ruling clan was eliminated by the wandering clan Ifreet. Ifreet had all but instantly become the new dynasty of Veruc.

Many generations in, a great astral body ripped the sky asunder during the dead of night. This monstrous rock crashed into the earth like a fiery ray, and shattered the night with blinding white flashes. The isle off the eastern coast had been struck and a great crater now lie in its southern tip. The eastern coast had been battered and berated by hundreds of smaller rocks and chunks of earth, leaving a shower of shooting stars to continue on throughout the aurora-glazed night. Come morn, the Verucians sailed to the eastern island to search for survivors and inspect the damage. Scholars guided by capital warriors gazed upon the watery circle cut into what was once solid land. They inspected every rock, every twig, every angle. What they would find was much more than astronomical, but life-changing. Floating amidst one heap of dirt pushed up on the crater by the impact was a single round egg. It was glistening and bright with a pearl-like sheen. The egg had a small fracture on its top. When the Ifreet scholars washed it and inspected it further, it appeared to have not a single further crack or blemish, and in fact was still holding a very much alive dragon. The odd little egg was brought back to the nursing spire and put with the rest of the clutches as one of the Lord Ifreet's prized possessions.

The egg was kept in isolation atop the high chambers of the spire as it grew. The spire was without a word or the peeps of a mouse, only the blizzards and howling gales to sing its melody. Because of this intentional practice, many an egg were born with names not readily pronounceable, or in draconic tongue. The Verucians believed this to be the work of fate, the revelation of a true name which all great Verucian dragons had inborn. The caretaker noble caste had whispered only one name, Selun, the island on which they found it. When it was born, it took on the name the Selun Oracle, for the Verucians at the hatching truly believed this breed far unlike any they've ever seen before to be the prophet of their legacy. From that day on, Selun Oracle was kept at the nursery spire in Stroud and serviced by the Ifreet nobles.

Centuries would pass and the magics that resided within the deeps of the underground city Stroud was built upon became unstable. It was almost as if the souls of the ancient hybrids that designed it were stirred by the coming of the celestial storm. No one truly knows how or when, but the Verucians had become all but extinct in only a single generation. The Selun Oracle was lost, Stroud became ruinous once more and the Ifreet dynasty faded into nothing forever. Veruc has ever since been considered inhospitable and barren, blizzards and tidal storms ceaselessly raging around the frozen Verucian mountains. But a single egg would succeed the Selun Oracle, shielded from the ages and the prying eyes of man by the frozen halls of Stroud. That egg - that curious little egg - hatched in Sekkai, its progeny unknown. From that day forward, and with the dawn of the Age [Birth] of Riders, the Ifreet's legacy would continue on unwittingly for millennia to come in the empire below the Frozen Wastes. Maron is the hundred-and-eleventh generation Ifreet descendant; the first being the Selun Oracle; the hundred-and-tenth a trans-Vidalaneric Chaos and a Nyushian Air.

Verucia Strayed is the direct descendant of the Lord Ifreet, member of the Ifreet clan by blood and student of the Verucian dragoon arts. She is one of only a handful of remaining Verucians alive, though no records of Veruc's legacy survived its demise or the passage of time to prove her birthright. She had always lived a humble life in the southern reach of Veruc. Due to it's location, the cold climate and stormy winters left little to be desired from outsiders, and thus no one lived nearby for miles. Her years were spent learning about the stars and training in thought lost dragoon arts by fellow descendant of the Ifreet clan. Because of her teachings she had gained a fair bit of knowledge on dragons even though she had never seen one face to face or interacted with one before. She also loved history and spent all her free time in the few Sekkaian history books available.

Verucia does not remember anything about her life beyond a few years ago due to an incident she wouldn't be able to recall. Because of Veruc's desolate nature there were no others for leagues in any direction. Her former home had been destroyed when a makeshift orrery broke down, but when she awoke, she'd lost all recollection of what had happened and who she was. The only thing that immediately came to mind, "Veruc," became her new identity. Always a loner, she left her home at the southern tip of the island at the age of thirteen and travelled through Vidalaner to Vien early in life. The robust hereditary nature of over two millennia of inhabitation in thought-impossible climates aided her journey south across the harsh Vidalaner mountains into Sekkai. It was because of her habit from then on of straying from locale to locale - starting with Vien - that she adopted the surname Strayed. When she finally found Nyushi, she spent the next two years of her life at its academy, earning a modest living and learning how to become a candidate.

Verucia had no reason not to pursue the academy once she had heard about it. When Verucia graduated from candidacy, she was chosen by the little dragon from an egg with a fracture pattern on its top. The dragon's name was Selun Maron, he was narcissistic and ghostly and intelligent even at birth, his crystal was incandescent liquorish and he'd been able to use the crystal bond to convey speech telepathically up to a distance. With his innocently cunning nature and her brilliant, focused mind, the pair breezed through early trials and classes. Both content to be alone, the two were always the "black sheep" of the crowd. Around the age of sixteen, Verucia became a scholar to pursue the finer sciences, and from there life carried on.

Pet/s: Viennese Black Footed Ferret "Shadowgarde"

The Dragon

Name: Maron-Sélün
(Meh-rohn-Say-loon)

Age: 1 year/s & 1 month/s

Gender: Male

Element: Water

Appearance: Maron-Selun is a Water type dragon of relatively small proportion, exactly 135.8 feet at maturity. Like the ancient and perseverant Coelacanth, Maron has dark skin with flecks of bleached color as well as a thick hide and bony head. His scales are licorice-purple and non-glossy, though light tends to bring out their color rather than the illusive pitch black. His bony head has portholes for his two round, pearly eyes and rows of heavy teeth-like scales in an upswept pattern. Because of his facial features, his mouth and face scales look much like a giant fanged grin in contrast with his eyes and the rest of his head. His wing webbings are glossy and blood orange, faintly visible of spider vessels and extremely glossy in comparison to his body. At the ends are large webbed talons, each one a sharp scythe, used for swimming and piking prey. Maron-Selun's tail has two sets of tail fins: upper-vertebral vertical frills, and lower-vertebral horizontal chakram "paddles" from inheritance.
Verucia x Maron's crystal is licorice-purple and has a hexagonal molecular alignment. It is located roughly ten inches below his jawline.

Personality: Maron, from what I heard, is the germanic equivalent of an incubus or an ifrit. Hence the name. :3

Maron Selun is an awfully strange one. Most unlike his Sekkaian kin, he is narcissistic and manipulative and cynical in a lighthearted way. He is also strong-willed and seemingly fearless, traits which sometimes confuse and even frighten those around him. He can be a bit of a prankster at times. Despite his status as resident "poultergheist," he is usually a gentle a soul of compassion and integrity, who adheres to a strict code of honor. In battle, his way of thinking is similar to his chosen rider's, so the two never have any qualms about strategy. In other times, his will and desires often reflect deeply in Verucia, thus it is not uncommon for him to simply lay idle or suppress his motives for the benefit of his rider (his deepest secret). One of Maron's most strange features still, is his inability to use elemental magic or at least no observed instance of him doing so. It could be theorized that his power of will is twofold due to this lack of elemental use. His last little quirk is ventriloquism! Maron Selun enjoys honey, jerky, carrion, long walks on the beach, starry nights, potatoes, gags, scaring little children at night, playing hide and seek with small animals, taunting his foes and cynicism. Though he may come across as evil, and in some cases even as tainted, it is not the case. He is pure of heart and clear of mind, he simply thinks and acts differently than others.

Great work on your first app! Just a few things to look at before I accept it.

First, just be aware that 100 lbs is generally not a healthy weight for someone who is 5’4’’ (though, it can be). There are a few exceptions, but, a healthier weight would be about 115 or at least 110. I’m 5’2’’ and consider myself in a healthy range and I’m 112 (I’m thin, but, I wouldn’t turn into a vertical line if I stood sideways). My sister is 5’4’’ and muscular and is about 135. If you wish to keep her at 100, be sure to add mention of how she’d look because of it. I imagine she’d be very slight of frame and very thin. Little to no fat on her body. Also, for Strayed’s appearance, make sure you mention where she keeps her crystal. Further, Her hair would not be those colors naturally. However, if it were the pale blonde you suggested, she could easily dye it.

For personality, I’d like to see more detail on the Rider’s side. We ask for a minimum of two paragraphs (6 sentences each at least), but, we highly encourage you to write more than that.

In the biography section, we’d ask that you combine the rider’s and the dragons into one History section. You can begin with the rider’s life, then the bonding, then the history thereafter. Also, I’m a little confused about her name. Is Veruicia her family name? Or is Strayed the name she took as her family name? Also, if she had an accident and forgot everything, how did she feel about that? How did she know her name, or, did she just borrow it from what she saw around her?
In her second paragraph, I’m assuming this was before her accident? It would be very nice if you could make this a little more clear. Also, did she remember much of this training after her accident? Or did it slowly come back to her over several years. Also, how did she cross such a desolate and cold landscape as Vidalaner all by herself? And how did she feel about bonding this dragon?

As well, dragons can physically talk by themselves. They don’t need the bond to convey themselves. The bond isn’t flexible enough to show true and formulated thought over between dragon and human, but, strong bonds can allow either party to recognize the emotions in the other. For instance, feeling the heat of anger over the bond of their souls from human to dragon.

In the dragon’s section, you gender it as female, but, you use masculine pronouns. Is it male or female? Or does it tend to not identify fully with either gender? As well, the standard for waters is 140 ft, so, if you could get him closer to that, it would be more fitting of the breed. If you could also describe his appearance and personality more in a second paragraph for each, that would also be great. (In the case of the second paragraph in personality, I would just like to see a few more sentences, though, it’s quite good already.) Great twist that he hasn’t or doesn’t know how to use magic!

Ah ha! So, here’s your main history in the dragon’s section! I like your description to establish an old family, however, they would not have had access or the ability to get dragons to lay eggs there. Dragons likely would have done things of their own accord. To them, the war would still have been pretty fresh and they would not have been wholly trusting. However, this clan may have built good relationships with the nearby dragons! Also, if their clan arose in 201, that would be 100 years after dragon riding was already becoming more common, so, it would not have been in their favor to go around hunting and killing the dragons for sport (unless it was a clan heritage thing, but, then they would Not have had a good relationship with dragons at all and certainly wouldn’t have had access to eggs.)

As well, though it’s possible that they would have found a lone egg in the times before the academy, it would still have had to have a rider. It may be better to make something like this a local legend, instead of actual fact. It may or may not have happened and, therefore, the details of a legend may be smudged as you wish.

Also, I’m not sure what the second post is for?

Overall, great work! Just needs some detailing and some questions answered! Hope this helps!

b.b.r. (before the birth of the rider)-Not much is know of this period of time except that the world was plagued with wars as humans and dragons dueled for supremacy.

b.r.(birth of the rider)

1 b.r. -The war between the dragons and humans has ended and a cooperative relationship begins. The war was ended when a dying mother dragon gave her egg and a crystal to a young boy, he was the first dragon rider.

109 b.r. -The first records of widespread dragon riding surface.

You mistook something, it was nearly 300 years before dragon riding became a thing not after. According to this, humans hunting down dragons was not uncommon. There're no dragon riders, so there is no bond. Thus there is no death of a born free dragon. And because of that, there's nothing stopping droves of humans from stealing the dead parents' eggs and keeping them as trophies. Taxidermy would have also been possible around this time as well as all of the other stuff they would probably need to kill or imprison them. Again, in a time where they seem to be mortal enemies, humans would be very socially inclined to hoard them as trophies and mementos.

They in theory would have been able to build pyramids even before that! All according to comparing human technological advances in the real world to its current state in this one. That's all I wanted to bring up. Everything else I am working on.

I see! I must have neglected to see the second B initially. You are correct. It seems possible that this could have happened. Though, they must have had fantastic record-keeping.

Let me know when you’ve finished updating the profile!

Edit: Also, as I review things again, I realized I missed the section about the pets. While Skunks, foxes, and ferrets are close enough to domestication now, they're all very exotic. If she'd brought them from her home and down to the academy, that's a lot of traveling with rather wild animals. I would appreciate it if you narrowed it down to one of the three, (And, preferably not the fox, unless you can make a good argument for why it is necessary.)

Thank you!

Oh! No. A skank. It's a lizard. Anywho I'll keep the ferret then, because that's very believable.

About the records, they almost completely were lost after some unforeseen force of nature. All that survived were ice-preserved ruins and local folklore.

By the time you read this I probably proof-read everything and narrowed down to one pet!

EDIT: I kept and properly rephrased the telepathy thing. I read somewhere in the infos that on rare occasions a dragon can talk telepathically. You are the ultimate decider of that though. c:

Great work! Thanks for bearing with me and the changes. I'm accepting this right now and I'm going to add you to the lists, but, be sure to add where Verucia keeps her crystal and where it's located on Maron.[/align]

Sorry! I thought I had worked that out. I had it written in my head, at least. I'll do that now.

All that aside, thanks!

Awesome! Thanks! Though, on the human, the crystal would be freely hanging. and generally seen on jewelry or weapons or the like. In rare cases, such as after a war wound, some are sewn into the body, but, this is extremely uncommon. I'm not sure if any surgeon would be comfortable trying to attach it to one of her vertebra! Perhaps she could wear it as a choker! :D! <3
