Things had been getting better--kind of. The tension between rider and dragon had since settled back into the more or less usual routine. A fight here, and a fight there, all over something stupid, or over one of the many things they refused to find middle ground about. So yes, pretty normal, until one fateful morning. The night before, Jiromy had been treated to an almost uncharacteristically lovey-dovey Anemone, the best mood she had ever possibly been in. She had even laid her head right next to his bed, at first. And a last, apparently, as the morning light brought on such a drastic change that sent him all but sailing across the room. Actually, it had been the forest's nose, scooping under him and tossing him up and out of his bed with a flailing of limbs and blankets, not to mention the pillow he grabbed onto for dear life, even though it couldn't do much to help him as, too late, he landed with a nice thud to the floor.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Jiromy roared at once, fighting to get to his feet through the tangle of blankets. rubbing his aching bum as he glared back at the already glaring Anemone. The forest huffed, sending his dark hair flipping about in the brief breeze.

"Your snoring was annoying me."

"Eh? I don't snore! You really want to start this morning, Ane?" he huffed back, even as the forest let out a hiss. Usually, that would surprise him, but with the already messed up start to the day, it angered him further. "Don't you hiss at---hey! Where the hell you think you're going?" he growled, as Anemone hissed again and quickly turned, shouldering open her doors with a brutality that nearly had them coming back to slam into Jiromy, who had instantly taken up chase. If his adrenaline hadn't already been pumped from the rude awakening, he probably would have been weary-eyed enough to get smacked by the doors. In nothing but his pj's and his hair out of its usual ponytail, he dashed after the forest, who was quickly making her way down the hall. By the time she got out of the Academy, the only thing that had Jiromy keeping somewhat up with her was that one, he was more in shape recently, and two, he was so angry at her. He wasn't going to let her get away with her brassiness this time.

Anemone's wings snapped open swiftly, and Jiromy launched for her tail just as the forest launched up into the chilly sky that was awakening with the mesmerizing colors of dawn. He managed to get a strong grip on her tail, only to nearly feel like his arms would be pulled from their sockets from the force of being jostled off his bare feet. "Running away like a little girl? HA!" The forest teetered in the air for a moment, a growl deep in her throat, before she forced herself up higher, faster, leveling out so that Jiromy was not dragging her down, but flailing out behind her. And indeed he was, like a human flag. A now frozen human flag, perhaps that being the only reason why he was still able to maintain a grip on her, his fingers felt frozen in its grip.

Out over the jungle now, Anemone chuckled evilly and flew lower, until Jiromy was dangling again, and began to dip him into the trees. Too late did Jiromy try to climb the rest of the way up, and soon, a tree branch snagged him right at his gut. He tumbled down a few levels before managing to grab hold of another branch, but not before feeling like he had, well, fell from the sky into a tree. Ow...that little shit! It was only when he heard Anemone roar far above him that his silly brain realized what was going on. Gritting his teeth, he ignored--as best he could--his aching body and climbed up as high as he could go, sticking his head up over the tree line, shivering in the cold but currently unnoticed to that as of yet. Ah...Anemone was Flying today! What a stupid revelation to have up in a tree, during winter, instead of back in his nice, snug room.

And so Anemone was, circling her spot above the jungle, letting out another challenging roar. "Come on already! Contenders be damned if they are too slow!" She meant it, too.

While finally escaping the Murks DID lift the group’s spirits a tad, things were still hellish since the graduation ceremony. Blair had all but completely given up. The only thing that kept her going was taking care of Byrn and helping him recover best they could as well as giving Bolrock whatever he needed to keep going as well. But because of this, Krakatoa had been in a mood that resulted in many shattered boulders and organic material burned to ash.

Even now as the group was deep in the Jungle gathering any beneficial plants and supplies, Krakatoa had created a small crater for himself to sit in at the base of a mountain near where Blair and the others foraged. Yes they were closer to the Academy and that itself made him angry. Krakatoa wanted to find a few Sekkaian dragons and rip them to pieces to soothe his nerves. But he knew he needed to wait, which made him angrier.

Rouge as always helped a little. Now that she was not throwing fits or testing his patience he found her welcome company. He stood in his crater now realizing how fast he was growing. When they graduated he was 75 feet at least. He was larger now but not full size yet by a long shot. He HATED not feeling Blair as connected to him but currently that was best so he would not feel her retched despair. But she had been right, he still knew how she felt. And he knew something dark had entered her. He could sense an explosion of violence brewing within her, and to Krakatoa, this could prove to be a very good thing.

A roar in the distance caught his attention immediately and he quickly rose up to see where this potential threat was coming from. Aha, there in the distance a small dragon flew. But as he listened and watched, a realization hit him. The Sekkaian females had come into mating season. The big Bulkhead blinked. He was definitely more angry than horny and from what he could tell the Forest was not exactly a looker. As if reminded he looked back to Rouge. Now SHE was a creature of beauty and skilled killing. He did not want her to suddenly shift moods if he went after an Academy female. But really he just wanted to relieve tension. And that did not NEED to include mating (Much as Blair would disagree)

In fact Blair made it to the clearing now and called up to him. “What is it Toa? What the hell was that?” In truth Blair had a bad feeling that the roar was familiar but she did not exactly care at the moment.

“Mating flight” he said bluntly “My Blair, I need to unwind. Rouge, do not worry. I will take care of this! Just keep Blair safe!” He snorted smoke before launching himself skyward. With a snarl he flew swiftly towards the clamoring female. Not intending to get too close to her, she was a Forest and so he would need to be cautious. But the closer he got, despite his heat vision, he could see her shape was…odd. Odd in the sense it fit the description of a Forest Blair had mentioned and cursed about many times. A wicked grin spread across his hellish maw.

Also to his delight, on his way he saw the heat signal of a human in a tree. Instantly Krakatoa felt a cold hatred towards the man and it hit him that if this was the dragon Blair had spoken of, then this human…Ooohhh ho ho this would be fun. He roared at Jiromy. “SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER!”

Krakatoa lowered as he flew over so his body was only a few feet from the man. His heat alone may be burning his skin slightly. He even swiped at the top of the tree with his tail. “HA! DON’T THINK I AM DONE WITH YOU WEAKLING!” He boomed hoping he at least made the human piss or shit himself if he had not hit him. But he had a bigger target in mind

Now he roared at the female and any males who may be around. “BABY DID YOU PICK A BAD DAY! BEEN PISSED OFF AND YOU AND YOUR LITTLE BITCHES JUST GOT IN MY WAY! TIME TO SEE A REAL MALE!” He laughed and fire poured from his vents and mouth in a terrifying display. He hoped to have some fun with these poor sorry saps on top of keeping them away from his Blair and the others. But hey, on the unlikely chance this female did offer herself to him, he could at least humiliate her and make it so no other male could please her...With an offspring to boot. Heh heh. He’d play her little game for now, but as far as he was concerned, he was in control.

((A bit of fun drama for everyone! (plotted by Megs and me) No worries he’ll play along! Also all caps = very LOUD Toa roars lol))

As per routine, the Air pair were out in the parade grounds, practicing. Anything and everything that they felt needed to be worked on. They had no jobs at the moment, nothing assigned to them. So they went back to training. Always, always training. Some would accuse them of not being able to let up, but Iniiki had nothing better to do, and if he didn't keep Wan occupied, then he would just eat. Or start hoarding stuff. Iniiki was coming back to find things stashed in Wan's nest. Stuff he probably didn't need, but still.

"Mine, I am hungry, and bored." Wan replied, rolling around in a rare patch of morning sun. It was cold out, but the owl dragon didn't mind it. His full form of feathers was good insulation and was extra fluffy during the winter.

"You just ate. How can you still be hungry, if you just ate." Iniiki rasped back staring at his dragon incredulously.

Wan fluffed up and shook his feathers, before staring at him. He didn't say anything, there wasn't any need.

"Whatever, Wan." He resumed to his cooling down exercises that would keep his muscle from getting too stiff tomorrow morning. They fell in silence, Wan waiting for Iniiki to be finished, and Iniiki finishing up. All around them the occasionally call of a female dragon would toss up, and Wan would occasionally glance up, but he made no motion to follow. To chase. Iniiki was slightly perplexed.

Finally one scream echoing off, and around from the jungle caught Wan's attention, as his black owl eyes turned to regard the sound. Iniiki could feel throught their bond, the want yet the conflicting emotion of maybe not. But, before Iniiki could say anything, Wan was spreading his wings. Perhaps the Owl dragon had been waiting for one that sounded like a challenge, sounded interesting. Who knew what he was thinking.

"I'll return, Mine. Don't get into any trouble." He replied as he lifted into the air gracefully, shifting the currents to his liking. It was almost like gravity didn't affect him, but he wasn't a gravity dragon, and Iniiki could feel the thermals being pulled down to flutter Wan's flight.

Iniiki waved him off, before resuming the last of his warm-ups.

Wan Shi Tong didn't need to hear her call again, already knowing what direction to fly in. It didn't take long for the small air to find the forest that had called him. Though, he wasn't the first, A rampaging Bulkhead had also answered her call. Wan was close enough to see a human in the tree, and then bulkhead lashing out and knocking him out of the tall tree.

Fury writhed into the owl dragon. It didn't matter that a person was here, (Though he wondered why of all things) But the bulkhead had the gall to attack the man when it was possible that that could be very bonded of the dragoness he had come to chase. Before he could even introduce himself, He darted and caught the male as gently as he could in his talons.

"I do not understand why you are here, Sir, But I can not take you back to the Academy. So I will sit you here. Please try not to get killed this time." Wan spoke in an owlish voice. He set him down gently slightly farther away from the dragons and closer to the academy, next to a burbling stream. With the male now set down, Wan took off again, ruffling his feathers.

"I, Wan Shi Tong, Have heard your call, my fair lady, though my large sir, I must state: I am not happy with your treatment of the poor sod in the tree. That was rude, and uncalled for!" Wan chastised the large Bulkhead. Toa might have strength and power, but Wan was fast and speedy, able to use the air to his will. Toa would have a hard time hitting him. "Perhaps I will have vengeance for him later."

The night passed with little sleep for both rider and dragon however, the lack of sleep for the human inhabitant was caused by the Forest’s restless aggravation. From under the heap of furs and despite sleep curling around her weary body, Bruvyn could hear the sound of her dragon rustling around in his nest. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for Hemlock to shift positions throughout the night but this was a never ending shuffle of twigs and brush.

It was just plain unnecessary.

“…emlock…” Bruvyn mumbled through the blur of slumber. Her voice barely grazed the crisp sound of crunching leaves that filled their room but Hemlock has no problem catching it. It was what he was waiting on the entire time. He stopped abruptly, poking his head out from the mess with his frill pressed flat against his neck. The dragon waited, still as a statue, in complete silence though the anxious twitching of his rattle-tipped tail forced him to suppress it with a forepaw. His eyes narrowed to slits in a near-perfect imitation to his pupils as he peered across the quarters at the bundle that was his rider. A grin began to spread his reptilian jaws apart. No more movement, no more sleepy groans.

It was time for round two.

Hemlock buried his head under the corner of his nest and using his tapered snout as a makeshift shovel, flung up as much debris as he could with a sharp upward toss of his head. Bits of dried leaves and twigs rained down across their room with the feeling of the entire essence of autumn coating every inch of it. The Forest stole a quick peek at Bruvyn though the sly grin that parted his lips dissipated quickly. All that noise and not even a single movement from her! A small hiss slipped past his tongue. This simply would not do.

He took extra care to leave the broken nest without so much as a snap of a twig. If she was to wake before the perfect time, his entire plan would be destroyed. So with that thought biting at the back of his mind, Hemlock picked his way around the mess, thankful for the lack of protrusions nature bestowed upon him. He stopped about midway with enough space to stretch his neck forward and touch the edge of Bruvyn's bedding. In a quick, fluid movement, his head shot out like a snake's to grab the edge of her blankets with precise accuracy. The woman had little time to react before her dragon bounced back to his own bed, blanket clasped between pointed teeth.

"Damn it, Hemlock!" she yelled, fighting against nothing with open palms smacking at empty air. The Forest only let out a hiss in response with a fully extended frill framing his delicate head. "Why. Just please, tell me why," Bruvyn pleaded as anger gave way to weariness. From across the room and neatly curled up on her now soiled fur blanket, Hemlock purred with excitement.

"I'm going out tonight," was all he said. His rider shot him an exasperated look, one brow raised in question. "That...that's..." Her hands shot up with defeat as she fell back on her bed. Difficult as always, she let the irritation sidle off into absent curiosity. It hadn't occurred to her that the season of flights were about them. She was always so enveloped in her day-to-day duties, most of which covered Hemlock's incessant need for something, that plenty slipped past her frame of mind. If it did not involve personal training, errands, or her dragon, Bruvyn made no time for it.

The stillness grew between them with only the slight racket of his rattle to keep the air from growing stale. "Do you want to know what I'm doing?" Hemlock prodded as the fun of his game started to drop away. When his bonded refused to answer, he took it upon himself to do it for her. With a leap from his nest, the Forest waltzed over to the ledge. "I'm going to fly sssome," he answered with a snap of his wings. The last thing he heard before leaving the pockmarked rider's quarters was the upset voice of Bruvyn as she called out to him cursewords abound. He predicted it had something to do with the state of their room but shrugged off any hint of worry. She'll clean it up in the morning. She always did which meant he had nothing to worry about in the first place. It was why she was his.

Hemlock let the chilled wind carry him across the lands for some time before a gutteral scream whipped him around. A bit of aerial acrobatics kept him aloft as he deliberated with himself on whether to procede with an investigation. The primal atmosphere of the air tugged at his senses, the need to conjoin two lives to create more overriding the previous joy of a casual flight. It wasn't a long self-centered debate and moments later the Forest tucked his tail and sped off towards the jungle.

He wasn't the first to heed her call but the sight of the other males weighed little on his confidence, though the Bulkhead rattled his bones more than he wanted to admit. The frill around the base of his skull opened with intent to impress the venomous female right off the bat (and possibly increase his size through illusion as instinct called for) as he landed just yards from the bird-faced Air. The feeling of interrupting some heated conversation sunk into his mind as he processed the reprimanding words that clacked from the Air's beak. Little mind was paid to it, however. Hemlock was here for one thing and one thing only, as were the other suitors.

"I am Hemlock," the Forest stated simply with rattle-tipped tail twitching against the frozen ground. "I don't sssee the need in fancy wordsss unlike sssome," a quick glance at the Air didn't help to hide his 'cryptic' insult, "ssso I'll leave it at that."

Cold, glowing blue eyes stared at the gem that was the academy from a great distance. The black wyrm lay in loose coils staring at those great stone walls that housed the very place he had spent years hating. He did not dare to move closer and attract attention to himself. His twisted mind was full of half formed memories he had long ago suppressed. There was a face, almost there and never quite right, which spoke his name like an answered prayer and treated him well. He hated the sensation of uncertainty he had acquired since the birth of his first offspring in the months prior. That fat little pup which had no business on the side he had chosen. His nostrils flared and massive jaws stretched, letting each oversized needle like tooth glint in the coming rays of sunlight. He was a horrible monster that was to be sure, with far too many teeth and a personality just as jagged.

Self reflection bothered him, he would rather exist in a single moment then look back. That scream, that horrible cry, still rang in his mind endlessly, a trapped moment that would never leave him. He flicked the tip of his tail, the jellyfish like bobble seeming to dance in the colors of the morning. Spots of bioluminescent light made dim in the gathering dawn. This place was pitiful. For all their walls and guards they would not hold forever, and yet there was an uncertain kinship which had taken refuge in his chest and turned his stomach. Bastards the lot of them. Perhaps siring a sekkian wyrmling had turned him soft, perhaps he had been wrong in protecting the weak furry whelp.

A cry split the morning like a call to war. His fanged head snapped upward with unnerving quickness. Gills flared and he took a slow breath in through his nose. He knew that sound anywhere. His heart began to pound a staccato rhythm against his ribs and his blood quickened in his veins. Pupils dilated in readiness for what was to come. The primal urge he had felt the season before returned. He had tasted victory once, he was more than willing to try again. Besides, to deflower one of those who left him feeling uncertain, to make them his, well that alone would be enough to cast off these foolish doubts about his true nature. Let the memories that wished to surface stay dead. The moment of weakness for his spawn had been nothing but loyalty to blood. He was the same creature he had been for years.

His wings unfurled like great sheets of parchment and snapped as they straightened. They were vast sails and so thin the light of dawn made them almost seem to glow. He unwound himself hastily, his body held aloft by spindly legs that did not seem well suited to his bulk. With a hiss of pleasure he took to the sky. Vast wings beat the air, too large for your average water. The taint had corrupted him, change him into something far more sinister then the average of his breed. The oily beast surged through the heavens and joined the three other suitors gathered there. His toothy maw split into a hideous grin and his lure flicked in excitement. The female was a forest, or perhaps a water, it was rather hard to tell. It did not matter to him. This wasn’t as much about her as proving something to himself.

He did not bother with talk. These other males were weighing too much on their voices being part of her test. This was a chase, not a time for conversation. He flared his wings and seemed to stall in the air. He spared no glance to the human, not even realizing he was there. His eyes were on the female, waiting for instruction. For now he would leave the other suitors alone. Unless they happened into his path, then all bets were off. Even the bulkhead was seen as simply an annoying pest, young as he was.
