Character Number- My very first!

Name- Aoife Kiatini

Age- 17

Gender- Female

Sexuality- Bi-curious

Appearance- Aoife sits firmly in the 'small and slender' category, though if you judge her by her appearance you'll end up with a fair few bruises. Standing at roughly 5'2" high (5'2.5" if you ask her personally - that extra half an inch counts, okay?) she often finds herself craning her neck in order to stare someone in the eye. Dark, chestnut brown hair falls in soft curls down past her shoulders, neatly framing a heart-shaped face and matching her deep brown eyes. Aoife isn't the type to particularly care for what she looks like, and so her hair can usually be found gathered in a topknot on top of her head to keep it out of the way. A few shorter strands don't quite reach, and so instead fall down to frame her face on the occasion they aren't furiously brushed behind her ears.

As has already been touched upon, Aoife has a somewhat slim figure. Her cheekbones are pronounced, usually pink, with a scattering of freckles running from one and across the bridge of her nose to the other. Her eyes are wide-set on her face, her eyebrows practically non-existent, and her nose small with a button top. Her curves are slight, with a modest bust and bum. Aoife is rather indifferent to her appearance, though does occasionally express her desires for better muscle mass. Her limbs can be definitively classified as 'weedy', though she does profess that she's stronger than she looks. The little muscle mass she has, predominantly placed on her shoulders and upper arms, is well-used and soflty defined, though under clothing you'll be hard-pushed to spot it. Either way, she's endowed enough to balance three trays of mead on each arm and juggle them through the busy tavern in order to deliver them to their expecting owners, or alternatively to remove some of the less-burly intoxicated men who've tried slip a hand underneath her skirt. The muscle-y ones Aoife leaves to the bulky barmen.

Aside from her freckles, Aoife has few distinguishing markings. A few scars from falls here and there litter her body, but the most noticeable is a thin, jagged line sitting along her left arm. The scar starts mid-way down her lower arm, starting on the top and running around the side and across the elbow to eventually fade out an inch-or-so from her shoulder. It was an accident from when she was a child, and she doesn't remember much, so often glosses over it. Aoife often sports a bruise or two alongside her more long-standing scars, and her pale lips are almost constantly cast in a deep frown or a scowl.

Style and Aoife aren't two words that particularly mesh well together - it's more a case of she doesn't particularly want to go out naked, and so instead throws on whatever's closest. Forced to wear skirts for work, she instead opts for trousers or shorts when she's off the clock and couples them with plain t-shirts or blouses. She has no preference for particular colours or styles - usually it's whatever's cheap and affordable, since she'd much rather spend her hard-earned money elsewhere. Barefoot is her preferred method of walking, but so as to avoid damaging her feet she does own a couple of pairs of battered off-white sneakers that she's become accustomed to wearing without socks. Jewellery is a silly luxury that Aoife has no need for, and aside from a leather bracelet on her right wrist that she is never seen without the brunette doesn't bother. Make-up is a very similar story, and though it's been requested that she wears some at work it's never more than a thin line of eyeliner and a covering of mascara to bring out her eyes (what Aoife considers her best feature).

Personality- Aoife, at heart, is a street kid. She's learned to take little for granted, and has inherited a strong desire to forge her own path. Determination and hard-work are deep-seated in her - you don't get something for nothing - and she will put 110% into each and every thing she does. The brunette doesn't take failure well, and as such will work through the night if needed to ensure the job gets done properly. She is very much of the opinion that a half-finished job might as well have not been started, and is reliable in as much as if she says she'll do something, you know it'll be finished at the appropriate deadline. Aoife is nothing if not punctual, and she prides herself on this fact. She will quickly point out if someone has failed to turn up or produce the promised goods at the promised time, and she has a tendency to quickly judge others on menial facts such as this. Aoife herself will admit that she's very judgemental, and first impressions are everything to the girl. Once she's forged an opinion it can be very hard to change, and she has a bull-headed stubborn streak that can be infuriating to any trying to reason with the girl.

Trust is an issue for Aoife. She's a glass half-empty kind of person and has a very solitary, intimidating exterior which can put off even the most friendly of people. She is adamant that she needs no-one but herself, and as such doesn't tend to make friends very easily. Everything has to serve a purpose, otherwise Aoife sees little point, and as such if she finds a conversation meaningless (or boring) she'll turn and leave without a second thought. Some call her unpredictable, and Aoife wouldn't argue with that - predictable is boring, and she doesn't want to be boring. Loyalty is a testy subject for the brunette, and she doesn't like committing herself to one cause or belief. Putting all of her eggs in one basket is a frightening concept for the girl, and as such she has a tendency to spread herself somewhat thinly and in actuality make things a lot more difficult for herself. Aoife is impulsive and rash in her decision-making, choosing her gut instinct over common sense and logic on a regular basis. She's the type to jump right in there and deal with the consequences at a later date - no-one ever got noticed for sitting around contemplating all of the options.

Whilst she isn't very good at trusting people, Aoife is rather talented at using them. She's come to the conclusion that she still needs people in her life, and whilst that doesn't require her to actually be friends with them she does have to show some semblance of social abilities in order to function in day-to-day life. Socialising isn't something Aoife is particularly good at, and she doesn't have a very good grip on what is acceptable and what is not. She has a fondness for sarcasm, and should a situation become awkward or the brunette not really know what to say she will fallback on her sarcastic comments (or even an outright insult). She can quickly become argumentative, and Aoife loves a good shouting match at the best of times. Even better still is if the disagreement descends into a brawl - Aoife is a brawler good and proper, and she knows all of the tricks in the book. Her slender size often looks to put her at a disadvantage, but she is well-versed in turning the tables on her opponent by using her small size to her advantage instead. Being quick-on-your-feet can be the different between winning and losing, and she tends to wear her opponents out before striking. Aoife doesn't play fair, and has no reservations when it comes to dealing a low blow in order to win.

The picture painted so far is that of a somewhat vulnerable girl, and this isn't too far from the truth. Whilst Aoife is loud, brash and stubborn, this is somewhat of a facade to prevent herself from being pushed into a corner. She's seen how her family have been treated in the past, and she's determined not to be taken advantage of. Trusting people makes you weak in Aoife's opinion, and puts the ball in their court - well, she's not about to let that happen. She likes to be in charge and calling the shots, and in-truth is petrified of feeling vulnerable. She's been there before, and isn't for one moment going to let herself or those she cares about (which are few and far between right now) be put into a position like that again. She is Aoife Kiatini, Sekkian Candidate, and she damn well deserves some respect even if she has to beat it into you.

Rank- Candidate // Tavern maid

History- Harrison Kiatini was a single father - Aoife's mother died in childbirth, requiring a C-section and contracting a horrendous infection. She lived long enough to hold her dark-haired baby daughter and bless her with a name, before slipping away into the Great Beyond. Harrison was understandably heartbroken, but faced with the reality of raising a tiny baby by himself he had little time to grieve. Looking after Aoife was a full-time job, and from their humble home on the outskirts of Lihn the exhausted man attempted to continue running his small farm alongside raising the child. With no other family to help, it was no mean feat - but after a year, Aoife was still alive, and though sales had taken a considerable dip by some miracle they were still afloat.

Harrison had always dreamed of learning - he had a bright mind, just little money with which to buy himself a suitable education. Determined that the same fate would not befall his child, he began working with earnest as soon as Aoife was able to toddle around and amuse herself. He alternated between leaving her with a few battered books and toys and taking her to work with him, and some of the brunette's earliest memories are of sitting in front of her father as he trotted his horse to round up the cattle. It wasn't the best introduction to life, but she hadn't exactly had the best entrance into the world and so took it all on the chin like a true Kiatini.

Taking it on the chin was the name of the game on the farm, as Aoife learnt from a young age that farmhands weren't treated particularly well. Some clients were perfectly polite, but others seemed to be of the opinion that they were the Riders' gift and deserved preferential treatment over other clients. Harrison wasn't the best at dealing with difficult situations, and so another young memory of the brunette's is watching her father too often give in to complete and utter jerks. They'd walk all over him, exploited the generous man for his produce, and this image is firm in Aoife's mind whenever someone approaches her for a favour. There's no such thing as a free lunch, and with this memory firmly implanted in her head she feels she has good reason to turn away anyone she believes is trying to exploit her.

As Aoife grew she became more and more involved on the farm, taking on tasks and helping her father out. On the odd occasion they ventured into Lihn for supplies she once again experienced the judgement befalling their muddy, grubby appearance, and she quickly learned that a thick skin was needed to survive. There was no point getting upset, you had to give as good as you got or collapse under the weight of it all. The farm continued to function, though it was far from flourishing - ideally the pair needed an extra pair of hands, but without the finances to fund it without harming Aoife's chances at a good education Harrison defiantly refused, soldiering on regardless. They made enough to get by, and that was good enough for him.

Aoife vividly remembers her seventh birthday - she had few friends beside her father, and those she had invited hadn't shown up. She wasn't bothered either way, content to spend the day just with her father, but their plans were cut short by falling window plain. It was something as simple as a stone, likely dropped by a bird - the window shattered, and the brunette fell backwards in surprise, screaming as the broken glass sliced through her arm. She was rushed to hospital, and Harrison was left with a heartbreaking decision. His daughter needed surgery, and he wasn't about to risk her health as he had his wife's - but good, clean surgery came at a price. Aoife came home healthy, though not particularly happy, but the money her father had been saving took a significant hit in the process. Harrison was a broken man - he'd tried everything, only ever wanted the best for his daughter. Yet still it seemed that wasn't enough.

Aoife saw a change in her father overnight, and hard as she tried she couldn't rouse him from it. Five years she tried, and five years she failed. When she was twelve her father passed away from a heart attack, but as far as Aoife was concerned her father's heart had been broken ever since her accident. With the farm in ruin, and no-one to turn to, the grieving teen decided it was time for a fresh start. Taking the small amount of savings that still remained, she hitch-hiked her way to the Academy, remembering stories she'd read about as a child. After a few weeks of living rough, the girl found herself part-time work at one of the many taverns surrounding the forepart of the impressive structure.

She attempted to keep her plight secret, but the landlady was a shrewd older woman who spotted the girl sneaking stale bread from the bins. Her name, as Aoife found out, was Louisiana, and she herself had lost a daughter a few years before from a nasty bout of the flu. Seeing good beneath the brunette's grubby, rude exterior, Louisiana invited the young girl into her home, offering her food and shelter in return for work in the tavern. Aoife graciously accepted the offer, throwing herself into the work in order to please her new sponsor. Louisiana's husband, Finnigan, was the one to suggest candidacy for the young girl, and with her savings and small amount of earnings Aoife was keen on the idea. At the root of it all, she wanted to make her father proud - and how much prouder could a father be than to see his little girl atop of a dragon?

Pet(s)- Aoife wishes, but no.
