Character Number- 2nd! Name- Arnus Cuthalion Age- Around 18; but looks to be 14. Gender- Male Sexuality- Hetero Appearance- Appearance here. Ignore the ears. =P Arnus is a young man standing around middle height, and yet to reach his fullest. He has light brown hair bordering on blond, with eyes of a light blue color, slightly tinted with stormcloud grey. Sometimes, when he's feel particularly sad or angry, his eye color may darken to a deep grey or sultry blue. A light scar traces itself just under his chin, a slight discoloration of the skin, stretching across the right side of his throat and stopping nearly at his ear. He wears a loose-fitting black tunic and a green jacket over it, as well as matching dyed-green breeches. More often than not, he wears protective fingerless gloves and an armguard to protect his arm from bowstring, decorated with gold thread to match his dragon's scales. A small pendant shaped in the form of one of those scales hangs about his neck, usually hidden beneath his tunic close to his heart. This is Verridith's Crystal - and his most precious item in all the world. For his age, he is small and rather young-looking. From the point of his bonding, his age seemed to slow greatly, and he looks much the way he did on the hatching sands that day. Nevertheless, he is strong and fit, quite athletic. Personality- Though a cheerful youth, Arnus is quiet and thoughtful around strangers, somewhat paranoid and anxious when he's alone. He prefers Verridith's company to that of others, and thus the position of an Outrider suits him, giving him the solitude he seeks. He's soft-hearted and kind, willing to help any in need, even a Tainted should they come across one wounded. Oftentimes, he wishes he knew the healer's art so that he could help those in need around him. Due to his past, he no longer enjoys the company of those he once considered friends. Scared to death of the Taint and what it wrought upon more than one he knew, he fears for Verridith's safety above all others. When she is in danger, or another friend finds themselves threatened, some of his old courage returns, and he is able to act in their defense. He hates his full name, and asks everyone to call him Arnus; even his own dragoness. The name holds ties to his past, which he struggles to forget. When not running missions for his fellow scouts, Arnus likes to read and draw, though he isn't very skilled at the latter. He hopes to, someday, be able to become known for his art all around Sekkai; however, as he doesn't practice much, there is little he can do. He is enamored of dragons of all shapes and sizes, and wishes to replicate their colors in paint. Rank- Scout. History- Born and raised as a sheltered child, Arnus knew only the farmlands of his infancy, the closeness of the fields and forests around. He had never thought of becoming a dragonrider - he was a farmer's son, a child of nature, and was taught in the ways of peace. The Taint came when he was relatively small. Protected by his parents, the boy never saw the war's ugliest side - until it arrived on his doorstep. The first thing he remembers from that time is waking to see the night sky lit in orange, and their fields of wheat and barley all aflame. Dragons, or the twisted shapes and remnants of them, screeched and snarled as they pillaged and destroyed, some once proud Sekkians, their crystals visibly shattered. In a fit of courage, he grabbed his hunter's bow and ran out to try and save what little he could - but his father pulled him back, pushed him away with his mother. They escaped into the forest, his father behind them, drawing the Tainteds' attention away from his escaping wife and child. He never saw his father again. For days they wandered, always fearful of the Tainteds returning to find them; in the middle of the forest, without any way of knowing where they were or how long it had been. It was there that Adolphus, rider of the Fire Goraen, found them. The tall, lanky rider reminded Arnus of a younger version of his father, and the two quickly became fast friends. Adolphus took both mother and child to Lihn, and told Arnus many tales of dragons and riders, hinting that the boy might be a good Candidate himself. Then, Goraen took his friend away - and Arnus was left all alone. His mother began to worry, and settled on taking him to the Academy to apply for Candidacy. For after the rider left, it was all he could talk about. After signing up, and many lessons later, Arnus found himself in the warm sands of the Hatching Ground, eagerly awaiting what dragon would choose him - he held in his hand a scale-shaped golden crystal, and a peculiarly small reddish-orange egg had caught his eye. It was then, last of her brood, that Verridith hatched. A beautiful golden she-dragon who he stared at with wide eyes as she tottered over towards him, her bright scales marred with red and violet, matching her iridescent eyes. The two bonded instantly; and a friendship that could never be broken was forged. And then, the war. Arnus had become a dragonrider to avenge his father, to take part in the war and stop others from being hurt. But as Verridith grew, he came to realize he couldn't possibly take another life - nor put his own dragoness at risk. Sudden fear was born in his heart, and he sought to protect the fledgling as best as he could. Eventually, they were tasked with becoming scouts as soon as Verridith was old enough. More like, they were chosen to be scouts for the scouts to find and destroy the Tainteds wherever they lurked. Adolphus was one such scout - he always seemed to find the time to help Arnus get over his fear, and teach him some method of stealth or maneuver he didn't know before. The man's cocky smile an arrogant confidence was contagious, and the boy felt at ease whenever his friend was around. But then the Taint stole him away. News that Adolphus had been killed came through when Verridith and Arnus came back from a scouting mission south of their base; and the boy took it very, very hard. He began to fear that he would lose his other friends, those he had come close to, and all the terror surrounding his father's death came back tenfold. However, they had no time to grieve or worry; Arnus went through a period where he hardly slept, and kept his Gold awake with worry. But they moved on, slowly, surrounded by grief. The Tainteds, by the end of the war, had taken three of Arnus' friends. And still, three years later, the boy has yet to fully recover. Pet(s)- He once had a kitten named Baelu, though he was forced to leave the cat behind when his father was killed. The Dragon ![]() [ 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 ] [ reference ] [ art page ] Name- Verridith Skystriker Age- 5; the human equivalent of early to mid twenties. Gender- Female Element- Fire Parentage: Marflax (Fire) and Kyranie (Metal), both deceased NPCs. Appearance- Flashy and metallic, Verridith sports bright golden scales that flash in the sun; their sheen was a genetic gift from her Metal mother, Kyranie. These scales are marred with markings of red and violet, stripes that splay over her shoulders, down her back, along the backs of her wings and along her tail. The inside of her long, batlike wings is silver, the wingbones gold striped with violet and red. Beneath her violet eyes, two stripes curve down her cheeks, and lines of the same purple curl from the middle of her muzzle down to the tip of her nose. Two black horns sprout from the middle of this marking-diamond, joining with a crest of sharp black horns that flows down her neck, across her back and to the tip of her long tail. Two silver horns sprout from her head, shadowing three bony silver frills that curve around her face. Her belly is plated with silver that extends down from her neck to end at her tail. Long, curved talons, pitch-black as her crest, curl from the tip of each long finger, the palms of her paws covered in dyed-black leather gloves. These gloves, held in place with metal bracers crafted by another rider, protect her sensitive paw pads while enabling her hard talons to be used. Attached to one of her face-flanking horns is a small pendant, a chunk of polished tiger's eye quartz, a precious item given to her by Adolphus's dragon Goraen. Lastly of her trinkets is her first scarlet feather attached to a silver ring adorning the end of her tail. Behind her horns, hiding her small ears, lay a fan of bright red feathers. From these feathers, joined just underneath her primary horns, is very long trailing feathers that extend far past her flanks to hover gently above the ground. When flying, she can sweep these back between her wings - but otherwise, they trail alongside her, swaying back and forth with every movement. She's said that losing one of these feathers puts her off balance for the entire week that it takes to grow back. Her crystal is shaped like one of her golden scales, and is a bright iridescent yellow. It's located beneath her jowls, at her throat an just before her neck plates begin. Though more pointed than a normal scale, it ties in as the first plate, protected by the position of her head. Personality- Verridith is proud and arrogant, ambitious to an extreme. She tends to look down on those who she dislikes, and has strong beliefs that she defends until the end. Nevertheless, she's not too proud to admit when she's wrong, and will attempt to mend any broken relationship she's inadvertently undone. To friends, family and - of course - her rider, her loyalty is unmatched, and she has a strong sense of honor. She is kind and gentle to Sekkian younglings, and someday dreams of having children of her own. She is also a spectacular mentor, not only to Arnus, but those wyrmlings that she loves to be around as well. In battle, she is fierce and ferocious, though not without mercy. She's an excellent strategist, and seeks to exploit larger enemies' weaknesses due to her small size. Often, her strategy and speed has saved them from being killed after discovery on key scouting missions, enabling both dragon and rider to return unscathed. At this, however, she seethes, wishing more than once that they were at the head of the battle. She loves to use her flames in unique ways, and often practices long to utilize methods to confuse and deter the enemy. One of her favorites is to throw a large fireball and follow it swiftly, hidden behind it, so that she may strike unawares - this gives her deep pleasure, and makes her an excessively good hit-and-run fighter.
