It had been a rough few months, what with all the training and exercising and learning. Oh there was so much learning. Things Ezekiel knew, and things he did not know. The proper form for holding a sword, how long his body could tolerate extreme exercise, how to make a saddle and how to ride in one. Well, a dragons saddle, of course. Horses were simple. Dragons were not. But, it was not wasted learning. He absorbed the information as much as he could, and know knew things he never dreamed of caring about.

Tonight was to be a special date night. He and Rivior had completed their chores in a timely manner and had the rest of the evening free. Ezekiel took it upon himself to plan a walk along the beach with some bread, fruit, cheese, and even a bottle of wine from the kitchens. Currently they were airborne, each atop their respective dragon and flying over Lihn. The city below twinkled as gas lamps were being lit in the streets and people began to recluse toward their homes or inns and taverns.

He had tempted the idea of going into town for an evening of fun, but this was far more personal and enjoyable, in his introverted opinion. Rivior wasn't fond of many people either, so this was by no means a second choice.

Xeroch didn't care much for their frivolous gathering, more irate that Ezekiel had chosen to neglect time to train and instead spend more time with the ones they shared a bloody room with. She had observed his stances and he was far from good. Even if he was a beginner she expected more from her warrior king chosen. He was to represent her in human form and he was so... less than compliant. And, he constantly tried to skirt her away from her hatchmates. He thought he was being clever, but no, she knew exactly what he was doing and she humored him in her compliance. But her patience was wearing thin.

If there was one good thing to come out of this night, it was a chance to dive the depths of the deep blue and to stretch her wings in flight. The wind raised her massive wings and they bowed down to meet it, filling the leathery webbing like the sails of a ship. The rush of the jet stream, the wind against her thick scales, it was like an attainable heaven, a peace.

A peace broken by Ezekiels gushy feelings that resonated through her. Why had he even chosen Rivior? He was strong yes, but meek, ill in temperance. And also not suited for bearing children. One should choose a mate for the sake of continuing a lineage should they not? She had pondered these ideals many times but to no easing of her mind... Bah, whatever, let them be.

She tilted her flight as they arrived unto the beach. A long strip of whitish sand met them, waves gently crashing on their particles as tide had pulled out. She landed in a flurry of sand, Ezekiel coughing and earning Xeroch a rude glare. She snorted and smirked, an expression difficult to read on her face.

"Here we are," Ezekiel stated, turning to Rivior and Siren, both of which were dragged here without being told of where they were going. "Perfect place for our date, yes?"

The night's hadn't been easy for the water rider. For awhile things had died down again, he slept easier at night with the other by hisside. At least for awhile. Even having bonded had helped, but mental scars were tricky and right when one thought that the had it all, they came back when you least expected it.

As per Rivior's tendacies, he didn't want to bother the healer with them. And while some were familiar to him as an old pair of clothing, others were new, but just as terrifying as the old. He tried not to thrash or move, but surely by now the other had at least realized the nightmares had come back to plague him. Especially when he tried to put off sleeping as much as possible. But Siren wouldn't let him, and either forced him into bed or coiled up around him on the rare occasion.

If the healer said anything, Rivior would say he was having a hard time sleeping..... which was the truth but lying by omission.

Rivior had found himself with more free time having finished up everything with free time to spare. Which, unlike Ezekiel, had no plans to do anything with. Probably either go to the forges and work till exhaustion peeled at his muscles or sit and try to sort out his journals and designs.

The lengthy dragonness had quietly followed him, her steps sure and graceful. Where ever her rider would go, she would be there. She had nothing better to do, and she did not mind watching over him as he worked. Or as he wrote. Flicking her tongue periodically, she followed him back to their quarters, and her eyes watched his movements. He was Tired, yes she could see that. But not so exhausted that he couldn't do anything, but she opened her mouth to speak before Ezekiel had shown up.

The look on Riviors face when Eze told them to saddle up, that they were going somewhere. Together. For awhile, the mopey male wouldn't admit that he had missed having the time to just be with Ezekiel. No work, or chores and not so exhausted that all they wanted to do was fall into bed and sleep. Partially had to do with Xeroch. She seemed to keep him preoccupied as often as she could, but Rivior wasn't one to upset the status quo and say something. He didn't want to start a fight or anything. He wouldn't do anything to drive the healer away.

Though, his paranoi started to peek when Eze wouldn't tell them where they were going. Or what they would be doing. Siren just chuckled and Rivior's pout and leapt into the sky, her own powerful membranes catching the wind and propelling them higher. Riv's eyes were not for the ground below or for the city turning on their lights for the night.

No, his eyes were always up. How high could they go? How long could they hold a dive before needing to break before they hit the ground. The thrill it brought, sent him higher and higher, gods. He felt like he was at the top of the world.

It made it better that Ezekiel was flying right there with him. Though, Xeroch probably wasn't the type to do random aerobatics. In fact, in Riviors mind, she didn't even know what the term fun was. So Siren wove around Xeroch, up, down upside down. and spiraling, snapping out her wings to steady herself. Siren was a quick learner, and with Rivior constantly wanting to try new aerobatics, she constantly had new tricks to add to her growing list of knowledge.

Unlike Xeroch's landing, spraying sand everywhere, Hers was more graceful. Like a cat almost, feet gripping into the sand with minimal sand flying everywhere. With ease, Rivior undid himself from the saddle and landed on the beach. Looking around, it was nice, quaint. A good place to be alone for the two of them. No one around to bother them but their respective dragons. And even then, they would let them have their privacy.

He turned and smiled at Ezekiel, the tiredness seemingly gone from the blacksmith. He flushed slightly when the other said date, but he grinned even wider. TIme to themselves. Wonderful.

"It's perfect." Rivior responded. He smiled, and looked again at the rolling waves.

The rolling waves that the serene serpentine had flung herself into. Head bobbing before disappearing into the waves.

Reaching out for Ezekiels hand to hold, he smiled again. The nightmares, for now, put behind him. He was here, alive with Eze and that's all the mattered to the smithy. "A walk then? Unless you want to race?" He grinned, mischievously, at the other rider.

Ezkiels face split in a smile when Rivior said it was perfect. He had hoped the other would enjoy this, and knew that Rivior liked almost any time that they could be more or less alone together. However there was always that singular worry. Ezekiel looked to Siren jumping in the waves, glancing at Xeroch who was trotting in quickly behind her, eager to explore the depths and catch herself a shark to eat. A sort of bucket list item the water queen had had.

Ezekiel took Riviors hand in his own, thumbing over the mans knuckles.

"Mmm a walk would suffice," Ezekiel replied with a chuckle. He began to lead the other down the beach as the sky melted into oranges and pinks above them. Out in the sea the pair of waters were breaching, maybe even playing. All Ezekiel could feel was bliss and joy from Xeroch, a form undiluted which he hadn't really felt before. She truly enjoyed the ocean...

He wanted the silence to stretch and simply be, to take time to be with his loved one in complete silence, but something was weighing on his mind, and he had to bring it up.

Even though Rivior tried to hide it, slept with Siren to keep the burden off himself, Ezekiel knew that Riviors nightmares had come back again, and they were as strong as ever. Part of him felt as though he wasn't doing enough himself, being so distant and busy lately, but he also knew illness of the mind was rarely something that just went away or stopped. More often than not it returned later when the victim wasn't expecting it. He knew that this was one of those times.

"Rivior," Ezekiel started as they continued walking. "I know you've been having Nightmares again... You should come talk to me when that happens." He stopped and turned to face Rivior, brushing a strand of hair out of his face. "You're never a burden on me, I want you to know that."

Rivior playfully pouted at the healer when he said a walk instead of a race. But he fell in place next to the healer, long strides matching his. Out of the two, Rivior stood the tallest, by a meager four inches, but it was a four inch height that sstill had him slightly looking down at the healer. Slightly.

The peace between the two was nice. Even if Xeroch wasn't keen on swimming in the ocean, surely Siren would have been able to convince her to let them have some time. She had a way of words, of soothing that even calmed him. But it hadn't mattered, Xeroch had followed, leaving them to make their way along the sandy shore. Foot prints left behind side by side.

And he was content. For the moment. Rivior thrived on doing things, rather than being at a stillness for long periods of time, but with his time with the healer and his own dragon, it quickly became clear that sometimes, being at a rest, like now, had it's perks too. If he were a cat, he'd be purring at how nice it was to finally have some time with the healer. The oranges and reds, reflected off the ocean creating an over glow of orange. It gave the romantic atmosphere more liability....but Rivior couldn't really be pegged for a romantic type of person all the time.

Though the topic Ezekiel chose to bring up, wasn't something he wanted to talk about. But knowing the healer, it probably started nagging at him and finally had the time to tell him.

Rivior sighed, though he didn't really shrink as he wanted too. No, he hadn't wanted to bother the healer. He had wanted to let him get his rest, he seemed to be even busier than Riv was. He looked down, scuffing his feet.

"I didn't want to bother you with them, because you've been so busy as of late. You needed rest....." he mumbled, feeling guilty. He hated them. He just hoped they'd go away again and he could resume being..semi-normal. whatever normal was. "I'd hate to wake you for them....." Rivior couldn't help but frown at the thought of the nightmares. They had been so vivid. And he hated hated /hated/ that siren seemed to share the residual effects of them. That was the worse. "I already feel horrible that Siren has to feel the same things already....."

He sighed, feeling the dregs of even skirting the issue start to make him feel anxious. He had never told the healer the full story, of the brand that marred his back. He just... he couldn't bring himself to tell him. He couldn't bring himself to remember. he didn't want to remember. What good would remembering do? He also hated bringing up the fact that the other was so busy. It wasn't the true cause, but it could be a bit of a factor. Rivior's fear of abandonment set deep in his psyche that he would do anything /anything/ to keep from being abandoned.

Even if he went about it the wrong way.

The mumbled answer was to be expected from the other man. He was constantly worried about being a burden, despite Ezekiels best attempts to make him realize otherwise. Ezekiel pulled him in close into a tight hug. For a few moments, they remained quiet, Ezekiel holding him closely to his chest. He wished there was something within his power to make Rivior feel better somehow. But he was patient and he was trying to remain as patient as possible during the hard time.

"My love, there are weights we all must bear," Ezekiel began, pulling back and putting his hands on Riviors shoulders. "But there comes a time when that weight becomes too much to bear alone. You have far too much on your shoulders, and it adds and it adds. Siren understood when she chose you, that she would have this obligation to share your pain. And I as well entirely, voluntarily elected to this when I wanted to become your lover.

You can wake me whenever you need me," He continued, grabbing Riviors hand again and continuing their walk. "It doesn't matter how hard Xeroch has worked me or how many chores I've done that day. If you need me, I will be there for you."

He paused as they walked and started again.

"And I know you don't want to talk about it, but when you do, I'm here," He added.

The sudden tight hug surprised him, but he not unwanted. He rested there, feeling the warmth of his arms around him. The steady beating he could slightly hear was soothing, and he tried not to seem to clingy to the healer. It felt nice. It felt like nothing could harm here, that he was safe.

It was a nice feeling.

He sighed when Eze pulled away, but he managed to look at the ex-healer as he spoke to him. His words were true. Holding it in, and locking it in himself only seemed to increase the burden. But he couldn't think of telling any of it to the healer. Not really, it made him anxious just thinking about telling the healer.

And what would the healer really think? Would he think of him any differently? Fear kept him silent on the topic, but it didn't stop the nightmares.

"I...Alright." He finally said something. It wasn't worth an argument, and perhaps he would next time he woke up from a nightmare...Siren needed her sleep too......ugh. Why did it have to happen to him. Perhaps in an odd way, if it hadn't happened, he wouldn't have ever fallen and met Ezekiel proper.

"I just... I hate it. I hate the nightmares." Riv muttered, looking down at the sand. With ever step, he kicked a little bit of it, and it brought back the memory of when he had been little and for once. just /once/ his parents had taken him here. They had laid out a blanket, and he had played in the sand. Together they had build sandcastles and eaten a picnic. They had spent the whole afternoon, splashing in the waves. When sunset came, he had curled up in his mothers lap and watched it--falling asleep. He couldn't remember how old he had been, but he old enough to remember.

It had been the only family outing they had ever had. The only time they had given him any sort of attention. He gripped Ezekiels hand tighter. "Sometimes it feels like they're still at it...." He frowned at the sand and shook his head. Even now, while Siren wasn't here, she was permeating a calmness through their bond. She didn't get upset or worried, she just... simply shoved her feelings back at him, to sooth him. To remind him that she was still. She shouldn't be worrying about him--She should just enjoy the ocean.

"I'm sorry. I don't. I wouldn't want to spoil this. Wouldn't want to worry you even more.."

Perhaps he had been close to opening up, or perhaps with gentle prodding he would start speaking, but for now, he just wanted to walk next to him, and enjoy the weather. Talk about lighter subjects. To enjoy the date.

Ezekiel resisted the urge to further correct Rivior. Of course, it wasn't really a correction either. He just really wanted Rivior to be more at ease and not feel himself as much of a burden. But today wasn't the day. Today they would enjoy their time together instead. It was very obvious that it was beginning to make Rivior uncomfortable.

"Yes, lets enjoy today," Ezekiel said with a mischievous grin. Without warning, he pulled Rivior into his arms and began to sprint down the beach. As they hit the cool spray of the water, Ezekiel gasped. As the water reached up to his thighs he spun and threw both of them into the water.

"Oh shit," Ezekiel said as he came up gasping. "I didn't expect it to be th-this cold."

Rivior relaxed more, the tension melting from his shoulders when Ezekiel decided not to push. While he knew that he should talk, at some point, explain further, he couldn't bring himself to do it. Eventually, he would work up the nerve, swallow the fear. But not right. Not today. Kicking at the sand playfully, he smiled. He glanced up to see Fidget flying gracefully above, circling on unseen thermals, long tail trailing behind him. He seemed happy to be out and about as well.

Before he could suggest something, he found himself being picked up and he squeaked in surprised, arms wrapping around the healers neck to balance himself, even if he trusted the healer not to harm him. "Eze--"

And then he was being flung into the water. Surprise, on his face. And it was cold. Flailing a bit he finally pulled himself to his feet. His clothes clung tight to his form and he shivered. Oh gods, it was cold. With it being late fall, early winter, he didn't expect the water to be warm. He swiped the hair out of his face, and shivered. He laughed though, his voice stuttering as he started shivering from the cold air hitting his skin.

Perhaps it would be better to start moving instead of staying still. make the blood flow. So he started to move, Going in deeper, to start swimming. "I I-think-k i-it'll warm up if we se-swim. Y-Yes?" He asked, Not going too far from the healer. He didn't want to leave either just because he was cold.
