Talking to a few of the villagers, Adelina smiled as she made sure she knows where she is going before collecting her hunting gear (bow, arrows and daggers). Her hands worked with packing up some food, water and another set of clothes (tunic, pants and five bottles of water). Her hazel eyes blinked silently as she braided her hair up before giving the villagers some coins and saying 'goodbye' before heading into the dense forest. Walking through the trees and around large bushes, she softly hummed a song that she learned while growing up. Adelina paused as she wiped sweat off of her brow as her lips curved into a kind smile. The female candidate walked onward and remembered the general direction the villagers pointed her to a clearing and stream that she can snag a doe for food. Stepping carefully, she kept at a steady pace before looking around as she knew that there should be a path or a landmark that the people told her about. The young woman's eyebrows went down as a frown went over lips as she turned this way and that in hopes that she spot it. "Well, there goes the idea of not being lost." She muttered to herself. Adelina sighed and leaned on a tree to catch her thoughts and breath. The mortal woman than moved onward and headed into a small clearing and smiled. She then sat behind a group of rocks as she hoped to herself that this is the spot. Waiting there for three hours, she finished off two bottles and some dried meat. Standing up and stretching, she walked into the clear and knew that she was completely lost. "Crap, this not good. I am lost in this forsaken jungle. I should of taken a map with me and then... I will not be as lost as I am now." She said before rubbing her brow to remember what direction she came from. Putting her hands on her hips, she turned this way and that in hopes to find the direction to head back to the village. |

Typically, if one knew what was best for them, it was considered unwise to make their way through the forests alone, even during the day. Most likely due to the stint in the war and the fighting, and the reclamation of the ancestral lands of Sekkai, most were beginning to no longer fear their shadows and venture beyond their doorsteps. Most who had done so before had only been driven by necessity and hunger rather than fool-hardy bravery. Some still knew that there were dangers in the trees, even if the war was over and the shadows had receded. Wherever light was, darkness would lay as well, brought with it by anyone who managed to cast a shadow. The dense jungles surrounding Lihn and the Academy and trailing deep into Nyushi would be no exception to this rule. Regardless, sometimes you got away unscathed…other times you didn’t. It just depended on luck…and the wolf only needs to be lucky once. Carter was deep in the woods, her cloak, Umbra Laena pulled tightly around her shoulders, as if to somehow ward off the forest and the trees leaning around her. She knew that Gytrash was off somewhere in the trees, doing some hunting of his own. It had been her dragon’s idea to drop into the forests far to the East. It was pushing their luck and their boundaries she knew, but he had little inclination to heed her words. Besides, he’d told her that it would be a perfect opportunity to take a glimpse at what the scouting regime of the Sekkain empire was looking like after so many years of peace. Perhaps they had fallen into complacency…or not. Either way, the information would be vital to Augari in the end. So he’d left her to find her own way, and slunk off into the trees as silently as a jaguar, his strange, parchment skin and visible pattern of his own internal anatomy blending eerily well against birch-bark and the sunlight streaming through the branches. So here she was, left on her own, contemplating simply sitting still hunched against a tree instead of wandering quietly. She heard a low growl in the distance, followed by two barks. Gytrash was in the midst of a hunt. She paused only a moment, then continued onward, shifting her cloak into a firmer wrap around herself. She had few means of defending herself, only a small knife and a bow across her back, though with the latter, her proficiency could use some work. Still perhaps she could find something of her own to eat, or maybe the Cerberus would share whatever it was he had caught….Her thoughts tapered to a halt as she heard a voice floating through the trees. She went very still, torn between two thoughts. To leave as quickly as she could, or to go towards them and warn them of the dangers that lurked in these woods. Though Osteoclast had done his best to break the young girl, her conscience still existed within her, a small flame that still flickered against his darkness. She chose the latter option. Rounding a tree, she saw a younger girl with her back to her, hands on her hips. “Hey…” she called softly. “What are you doing out here?” she asked, her eyes narrowing, worry pulling her mouth into a frown. “It’s not safe out here. You need to go.” |

Adelina scanned her surroundings as she cursed. "I should have listened to the villagers. I am such an imbasol." She gritted her teeth before a voice met her ears. Whipping around to face the newcomer, her hazel eyes blinked in surprise and sighed loudly. "I am sorry... I should not be out this far, I know... I know. I am freaking lost, as you can... see!?" She waved her arms madly before sighing in frustration. "I am such an idiot. I should have drawn or brought a map before venturing out here. Why did I not listen to the villagers? Well, I am an idiot." She added before her postured sagged in defeat. "I keep going in circles and I can't find the way back. I always end up to this dang meadow." She thought before glancing at the newcomer. "Do you know the way back?" she asked. |

Carter truly only had half of an ear for the other girl’s self-deprecating rants. The Bone rider continued to cast nervous glances between the girl and the forest around them. Carter’s eyes roved restlessly across the trees and though she did her best to try to act as natural as she could, it was clear that she was uneasy with the current situation. Shifting from foot to foot, she cast her mind as delicately as she could in Osteoclast’s direction. She knew that the Bone frequently kept himself apart from his rider, but he liked to check up on her. If he happened to start paying attention now, and he found out that she was here with an individual on their own…well she might end up seeing a repeat of when he had taken the boy from the path. She’d watched what that man, Panahasi, had bonded to. A nightmare of a Metal, she wouldn’t want to see that happen to anyone else ever again. Desperate to get the girl moving, it took all of Carter’s strength of will not to simply shout at the girl ’Pick a direction and go! It doesn’t matter!’. She was torn between whether or not she should help this girl. The longer that she remained with her, the more dangerous it would be for the child. She was a homing beacon for trouble, particularly trouble for this girl. The crystal that hung between her breasts, hidden under her clothes was all the hint she would need of the danger she was putting herself in simply by speaking to Carter. “I…I do not.” She finally decided. “But…but there was a path…back that way.” She pointed. “I can show yo-“ she was cut off from her speech by a snap of a twig, and the girl froze like a frightened rabbit. Her eyes scanned, and she heard a low growl, echoed by two more. To the uninitiated, it sounded like a trio of wolves, but Carter knew better. Peeling from the trees like a dark shadow, blood staining all three of his muzzles, Gytrash appeared. Carter relaxed a touch, but still remained on edge. Her head whipped around to the girl and she held up a hand. “Don’t be afraid…just…don’t run. He won’t hurt you.” She told her. “He’s…the least of your worries.” She whispered. |

Adelina stood there silently as she watched for the woman to help her. Adelina paused as the person spoke before the woman stepped on a twig. The brand new candidate paused before scanning the area before she heard the multitude of growls. "Crap. This hecka not good." Adelina thought before standing there in sort of a instinctual hope that the creature did not see her. Adelina blinked and felt herself gulp down her fear. She heard the words and nodded. Adelina looked at the woman as she stood absolutely still until the person started to walk as well. "I rather not go anywhere unless I am with you. Can you lead me to the path you told me about, please?" She asked politely. She glanced at the creature again as goosebumps went up and down her arms and legs. Adelina is hold herself back from freaking out. The young woman is good in keeping herself in check instead of reacting quickly. Her eyes blinked as she stayed near the woman that opted to help Adelina get back to the village. |

Carter was at least relieved that the girl seemed to be cooperating. She was taking the more intimidating aspects of the encounter well. She could only hope that Gytrash would be as obliging. She finally pulled her eyes from the other young woman and looked to Gytrash. The Cerberus’ muzzle was indeed darkened by what appeared to be blood. Whatever he’d gone after, he’d managed to catch it and eaten well. “Gytrash,” her voice caused the Cerberus to turn two of his heads in her direction, but the center head remained fixated upon the girl, silent and intent. When the girl moved closer to her, that center head’s lips raised in a snarl, a low, silent growl vibrating his sides. The other heads snapped to attention, fixating upon the new perceived threat. “Gytrash!” she said again, her voice having gained some backbone and steel. This time all the beast’s heads turned in her direction, ears up. “Here.” She pointed beside her. “It’s all right, now…come here.” She managed. Her voice had carried more than she’d meant it to. She cringed in on herself, but Gytrash crept closer, keeping to the opposite side of the girl and her newly found warm body. “I suppose…” Carter rested a hand on Gytrash’s heavy ruff. “I can show you to the path. But no farther. You’re not safe out here.” And you’re not safe with me. she silently amended. The Cerberus shouldered his way between Carter and Adelina, clearly not liking the new addition to the girl’s favor. One head turned and pierced her with a condescending glare, the lips raising over bared fangs in a warning. Clearly he would not be as familiar with this new individual as Carter had been. The Bone rider did not correct the cerberus’ behavior. “This way.” She pointed. “It’s not too far through here.” And it wasn’t, but it was farther than Carter would have liked. If they made it past the creek, she felt that they would be able to part ways without anything going too horribly wrong. |

Adelina stood there still and quiet as the dog like creature interacted with snarls at her. Adelina bit her lip as she felt the want to run and hide, but stood her ground as she watched the woman try to calm the multiple headed dog-like creature. The female candidate blinked her hazel eyes as she stayed still and ready for the woman to tell her what to do. When the dog-like creature went between them... It almost made Adelina freakout. Her breath came fast and sort of uneven. Closing her eyes, she breathed in and out slowly to calm her frantic nerves. Adelina then heard the woman's direction and nodded. She then started to follow the woman to the creek she talked about. |

She went slowly. Perhaps slower than the other girl might have liked. Gytrash remained steadfastly by them, weaving through the trees and underbrush with ease, whereas Carter would stop and push briars and brambles out of the way to avoid scraping her skin. She’d lived the first few months of her bond with Osteoclast in a bed of brambles, and she would prefer to avoid them again all together if she could help it. Gytrash wasn’t behaving very well towards the other girl, but Carter did little to soothe him, her own nerves frazzled at the position which she found herself in, acting as guide for some unsuspecting individual. She very nearly cried in relief when she saw the creek ahead. “There’s the creek…” her tones were colored with relief. “The path should be just beyond it. It wasn’t vast, as far as most waterways went. It was really more of a small, shallow river. So long as you didn’t mind your feet getting wet, it was easy enough to get across. Gytrash moved ahead, a shadow splashing through the water and out the other side, into the trees. He disappeared from sight, but Carter had little doubt that he would be close by. She and the girl were halfway across the water when she felt it, like a cold prickle up the back of her spine. “No…no no no no!” she grabbed the other girl’s arm and pushed her back towards the forest. “You have to get away from here now!” She froze as a shadow passed over them. It was too late. He’d found her again. “Carter…” Osteoclast greeted as he alit in the water with a backwing, disturbing the water with loud splashes, his wing tips folding carefully as he descended to avoid the trees and colliding with them. “How good to see you again.” He purred, rolling his shoulders to adjust the saddle situated between his wing joints. Ragged ears flicked and maroon eyes remained on his rider for as long as propriety dictated, a fraction of a second, before the flicked to the newcomer at her back. Carter shifted to stand in front of the girl, but she was a small, trembling wall who stood little chance of stopping her own dragon. “I see you’ve found something quite interesting in these woods after all.” Osteoclast grinned, his bared, black teeth looking more like a snarl than a smile. “Tell me, my dear, does this girl have a name?” he didn’t remove his eyes from Adelina. “Come now, don’t be shy. Introduce yourself to us. We won’t bite.” He cooed, stepping closer, his head down, tail twitching idly like a hunting cat. |

Adelina stayed behind the woman as she lead Addie toward the creek. She moved the brambles also to help her guide. Adelina smiled softly before noticing the creature's unsettling behavior that it hates her presence. Adelina also made so to not get too close to the woman guide since it would likely upset the dog like creature some more. Her hazel eyes blinked as she heard the words and sighed in relief to see the creek. Safety is just around the corner for Adelina since the path would lead her to the village. She was about to step to the creek when the woman stopped her with fear in her voice. Adelina paused before hearing the woman's words and nodded before starting to get to the forest. Adelina readied herself to sprint, before she did so... a dragon landed not too far away. "Shit." She thought as fear made her freeze in her tracks. Her breath was then caught in her chest as the dragon saw her. Adelina blinked her hazel eyes as she gazed in fear up at the tainted dragon. "This is a nightmare and a half. I definitely should have not strayed this far out." She thought as she saw her guide step in between them. Adelina then glanced from her guide/helper to the dragon as if asking what to do. Her hazel eyes blinked as her heart hammered in her chest. The candidate then stood up a little straighter than before and her hands started to ball up into fists. It also was not likely that Adelina will fight since the dragon can likely eat her in two bites. Adelina took a step back to keep a small bit of distance between her and the hungry looking dragon. She then cleared her throat. "I know I should not be saying anything this moment." She said bravely as she gazed up at the dragon. "If you so want to know me by my name before you eat me, I am Adelina or Addie." She said before her eyes winced as she stood there ready for anything to happen. Adelina knows that she cannot outrun a dragon, so... she can only stand there and hope for the best. |

Oh what an interesting dichotomy these two girls made in the Bone’s eyes, and yet he could see similarities between them. His own bonded, standing as much as a human could, between himself and the girl. She was trembling, that much was plainly obvious. She knew she had no chance against him. But still, she was brave to try. He huffed a soft laugh, looking from Carter to the trees across the creek. He saw the shadowy form of Gytrash observing him. The damn dog loved the girl, and he knew that if he were to cause her harm, repercussions would be imminent. The hound was smarter than he cared to admit, and he knew it would give him a run for his money before it called off it’s revenge. He doubted it’s loyalty would last too long after they parted ways. Still, Carter was too useful to harm. After all, just look at what she had brought him. The other girl was a precious commodity. Out of reach of any help or hope, and not equipped to fight back, at least not against him. If she’d had any sense, perhaps she might have threatened Carter. He frowned at the thought, reaching forth and hooking his rider’s cloak on one claw. “Come over here, my dear. I wish to get a better look at your prize. My what a wonderful job you’ve done leading them here to me.” He hummed, sounding traitorous. All part of the plan, he’d sever any hopeful connection between them with insistence that Carter’s betrayal had been purposeful, and that the girl’s fate had been decided by them both all along. “You even did so well as to try to protect her, isn’t that right?” Carter was silent, her head bowed. She refused to look at him or at the other girl. “Oh no, I invited you to introduce yourself, so you are more than welcome to do that much.” Osteoclast purred. So long as she didn’t launch into a heroic speech, he’d be more than glad to allow her her piece. “Adelina…” he tasted the name thoughtfully on his tongue, his maroon eyes narrowing at the girl. His teeth bared in another dark smile. “I’m afraid my dear, that your reprieve is not so simple a thing. If I were to eat you, I wouldn’t have asked for your name.” his head lifted away from her. “Tell me, have you ever heard of how the Tainted Legion receives their riders?” He looked with mocking adoration at his own rider by his feet, before his bloody gaze flicked back to Adelina, clearly inviting her to speak…or run. If she did the latter, she would merely be delaying the inevitable, but the Bone would relish the chase. Perhaps he’d even shake her up a bit. If only to teach her a lesson. |

Adelina heard his words and glared at him. "Yeah know... I have ears. I heard you and no... she did not lead me here. I got lost, and she helped me by guiding me to a path to lead me to the village nearby." The female candidate gritted her teeth together. Her hands are still clenched into fists. Adelina saw the woman's bowed head before glancing at the dragon. "Dammit, lay off of her." She said a bit too sharply and winched as she knew that she could have over stepped a boundary. She then heard the dragon talk again. Adelina listened and stayed still as she knew that she will not likely get anywhere too fast. Her thoughts went to the bow and arrows in her backpack, but refused to take it out to use against the dragon. It was pretty weak and she is a candidate. Adelina has just joined the academy and now... she met a tainted dragon and his rider. It was something she would never want to meet up with. She heard the dragon mess with her name with his mouth and waited silently. She then heard the question and shook her head. "No, I just heard and read stories." She shook her head and glanced at the dragon as she stood there. Adelina knew that she should just stand wait for what her fate will lead her to. |

Spirited indeed. Osteoclast’s eyes narrowed. Perhaps a touch too much. He leaned closer again, his breath fanning out across the water and ruffling the other girl’s hair. “You’re an insolent little thing aren’t you.” It was less of a question, and more of a statement, as he assessed Adelina with a critical red gaze. “Oh I’m well aware of where it is my rider’s sympathies lie.” He looked back at his rider briefly, his attention fragmenting for just a brief moment from the other girl. Carter looked up, daring to meet the Bone’s gaze, and his jaws worked into a smirk. She had a backbone, he knew, and her defiance bubbled beneath the surface. She just didn’t dare to show it all the time. Now then…back to business. His gaze snapped back to Adelina. A hooked claw came up and angled underneath the girl’s chin, forcing it up to look at him. “I will do as I please, and you are a foolish little creature if you believe that you have the right to order a dragon around. Much less one of my alliance and disposition.” He grinned, baring his ebon teeth at the girl. “Though I will admit you are either one of the most spirited whelps I’ve met, or the stupidest.” He laughed, removing his claw from beneath her chin, likely scraping her upon it’s retraction. He placed it back beneath the water, stirring up silt with the motion. “Oh…well then do allow me to enlighten you further.” He cocked his head at her, musing silently. “I do imagine that most of what you’ve heard it accurate…then again some of it might be overblown. I take it you’ve at least heard the warnings that hushed mothers tell their children at night. Behave or the Taints will take you away. Did your mother do the same?” he asked with a leer. “Regardless, of if she did or didn’t, those terrified old nurse maids were quite correct. To those poor, hapless children who stray too far when the Taints rise and the female cry out in ardor…they are taken away.” “We take those who are so unfortunate as to be caught unawares out in the wilderness and away from their cities and homes by crafty Taints…The Taints are far less picky about what sort of individuals they take away for their offspring to cut their teeth on…if they’re chosen. If not, they’re typically gotten rid of, or fed to our children.” He cackled. “Well, most of my brethren aren’t picky…I typically am however.” He hummed, tail tip twitching and displacing water. He grinned at Adelina. “Do you see where I’m going with this, my dear?” |

She winced at the dragon's words. Her eyes winced at his words of her being insolent. Why did he need to be so pushy since she was trying stop him from mocking his own rider. His rider was the one who almost got her to a path to the village. Adelina heard his words and winced as he lifted her face up with a claw. She so wanted to snap it off her, but just shivered at the touch he gave her. Adelina heard the sentence of her being stupid or whelp and winced. Her hazel eyes held a fire in their depths as she stood there and bit her lip as he redraw his claw. It also stung a little before sighing and trying to relax again. "Thank you for the spirited word, but not for the whelp or me being stupid." She added and slightly grinned before going back to neutral. She then watched the dragon as he started to talk to her about being tainted. Adelina then nodded her head to answer his second advice. "She never really said that, but she has scolded me when I do wrong doings with that the taint will be ready to take me if I don't straighten myself up." She added as she stood there and gazed up at the dragon. She heard his next words and slightly shivered at his words. Adelina never really thought that it will true, but it is. Adelina paused at his next words. "So, you are likely to pick up anyone up from the wilderness?" She asked since she never thought them picking up homeless from the streets. Maybe the smartest and eviliest person will be the sort they will likely grab. The young woman winced as he talked about people being fed to dragons, if they are not chosen. Adelina glanced at the dragon again and his rider. At the question, she nodded and bit her lip again. Her hazel eyes blinked as she shuffled her feet a little. |

Osteoclast shifted, angling his body a touch, so that his shin and shoulder brushed against Carter as he crouched lower to inspect Adelina again. It was a clear sign that things were wrapping up here, and a clear invitation, nay, a demand, that she would mount back up into the saddle. Silently, the girl climbed back up, settling herself in the harness that laced it’s framework across Osteoclast’s thin shoulders. The quills that nestled themselves in the hollows of his shoulder blades flattened for his rider, allowing her a comfortable seat for the duration of her perch upon them. He shifted, rolling his front set of wings, refolding them as the straps were adjusted so that she could settle in on his back. He gave a casual shrug at Adelina’s distaste of his judgments. “Whether you like it or not, it is how I see you.” He rumbled, a ragged ear twitching dismissively. “You are young in the eyes of your people, and your demeanor, though you hold fire in your eyes, displays a startling misunderstanding of how it is the world really works. Light may illuminate this world, as the white knights of Sekkai would have you believe, but blood feeds it.” He purred. “Such willing sacrificial lambs that walk out into the slaughterhouse are not trinkets to be wasted.” “Exactly. More or less the same.” He shook his head, giving a snort. He had little care for the exact phrasing of those adages, but they were more or less all equal in his eyes. “We are the shadows in the nights that steal away the unwary. Be they street rat, hunters,” he looked back over his shoulder at Carter and snickered, “Or even those of noble houses. We don’t tend to discriminate. Sometimes people even come to us willingly. Those are typically the most interesting.” He regarded Adelina. “But yes…anyone in an opportune position. Whether they be in the wilderness, on the roads, or the outskirts of the cities. And if the Taint is bold enough. Some of us are quite chancy creatures.” He laughed. At her stiff nod, his eyes narrowed and his grin became triumphant. “Good, then you’re not quite as dense as I first believed you to be. Now then, if you’ll come quietly and be a good girl, you can ride upon my shoulders with my rider. If not, well I’m sure I won’t drop you, but the ride will be much less pleasant from the cage of my talons. What say you, Addie?” he used her nickname tauntingly. |

She stood there quietly at his words and when his rider mounted on him. Her head nodded when he said she is young. The young woman heard his words how the world really works. Her heart hammered in her chest as she willingly took in his words and information. Adelina paused as he told her about people who willingly change themselves to tainted from Sekkain. Her hazel eyes blinked as she heard that many who walk in are not wasted. The woman knew that she will likely agree to go than fight to prevent herself from getting hurt. She then saw the dragon's eyes narrow again. Adelina heard his offer and paused to think. She also grimaced at his taunting of her nickname. "I will go willingly. It will also be my first time on a... a dragon's back." She added before glancing at the other woman. Adelina then looking around before stepping closer to the dragon. "Do I sit behind or before your rider?" She asked politely. |
