Character Number: 2nd Name: Cochlear Age: 48 years old; born 3252 b.r – Current year is 3300 b.r Gender: Male Element: Water Appearance: To put it simply, Cochlear is an impressive specimen. At full length from nose to tail tip he is at the maximum of his breed, 140ft long and 15ft at the shoulder. His body is wholly serpentine, seamless and lithe, as most Waters are, propped up on reasonably slender but stout legs outfitted with webbed claws that easily tuck against his body to lessen drag when swimming and are clearly more adapted for underwater usage rather then walking on land. His face resembles that of an elongated python, which seamlessly blends into his horns that curl beside his face roughly in the shape of a cochlea, hence his name. His eyes are a deep scarlet with hues of subtle gold around his pupil, which is in the shape of a slit. A great crest adorns the curve of his long neck, stopping at the shoulder before starting again on his tail and continuing to the end. These however can lay flat on his body, effectively disappearing and reappearing on whim to reduce drag or to make him appear more impressive. His wings almost nearly match his body in length and resemble those of a bat. Cochlear’s appearance is perhaps a tad generic but he makes up for in another way. His scales are a brilliant white, banded with rust-red markings that resemble a Nautilus all along his face, neck, and back. However, Cochlear expresses control over the pigment of his skin through chromatophores, thus his markings are always in flux depending on his mood. Generally, he maintains solid striping along his neck and lower back, as well as a deep blaze on his face but when angered the bands widen and intensify in coloration and exaggeration, often increasing their range to encompass his entire body and adding hues of cream and black. That being said, Cochlear is able to mimic other patterns and change his entire color scheme at will, and does so occasionally to blend into his environment, he simply has a fondness for his ‘natural state, though even that varies between minimal and dramatic standards. Cochlear’s crystal resides under his jaw where the nape of his neck meets his head. The stone is flawlessly smooth and roughly diamond shaped with an appearance that resembles black fire opal with veins of amber. A deep, lightning shaped crack runs deep across fragments its surface along a diagonal slash, a memento of a despairing moment that occurred decades ago. Personality: First thing that you’ll notice is that Cochlear holds himself with pride and has the haughty altitude to prove that he is a peg or two above you. In this way he recklessly accepts any challenge and readily makes his own on a whim, unafraid to speak whatever words come to mind. That being said, his temper is easily tread upon and unleashes indiscriminately once offended. He always has an opinion to share and after you have earned a frown from him, improving your standing in his mind is no more successful then a wild goose chase. He never forgets, never forgives. Still, whatever his flaws, Cochlear is no fool. Sure, he may have lapses in judgment and lavish his ego too much for his own good but he is quick to recognize danger and a good opportunity. While it may not seem like it Cochlear has the patience to plot and rather enjoys a good scheme to react his revenge or fury upon unwitting souls, though he has no weak bones about brawling it out either. Socially, Cochlear is a stiff and abrasive to others, but should you somehow impress him he is a good ally to have on your side. One quark of Cochlear’s is that he always remembers a debt, and should he owe you, he’ll make a double effort to repay as soon as possible. Partner: Alfrir Duthane ––bonded with Cochlear at age 23, 3252 b.r– died at age 28, 3258 b.r Alfrir and Cochlear, along with a small team, were ambushed by a then unknown Tainted assailant while scouting on the fridges of a northern Vidlander town after suspicious activity in the area was reported to the Academy. During the skirmish Alfrir was pierced through the heart by a projectile, resulting in an instantaneous death and subsequent Tainting of Cochlear. Rank: Tainted– Bone History: A little known fact is that Cochlear was born as a Sekkain Water, bonding to Alfrir Duthane on the very same Hatching grounds at the Academy today in 3252 b.r. It was a transitional time period, a mere decade just before the Tainted Wars unraveled in what is it currently, but one of peace regardless and completely unaware of the threat growing in the West. As for Cochlear, his first years of life were filled with training but he and his bonded got along famously with one another and were quite well known within their Wrymling class. When they graduated they joined the Swiftfire Wing, a Wing specializing in scouting and guardianship. In 3255 b.r, unease started to prorogate as rumors of mysterious attacks on Vidlander and Loth Angreson villages began to reach the Academy. With such few survivors little could be gleaned from the events after Wings were dispatched to investigate and stay on for protection, as the culprits never reappeared in the same area twice. Any mention of dragons –alone or with riders – being related to the attacks was fiercely combated and dismissed as heresy, for at the time the only dragons known of were the ones at the Academy and they certainly weren’t behind any of it. Instead, such accounts were often dismissed as accounts of misidefication of wyverns and other dragon-like species. The chaos never relented. Reports of raids and destroyed villages in the west continued to become more common despite efforts and increased in frequency at an alarming pace over the course of a few years. So much, in fact, the Academy decided to maintain a permanent military presence in the West and the Swiftfire Wing was one of many Wings assigned to these outposts in the subsequent years. In 3256 b.r, the city the Swiftfire Wing had been stationed at was named Altirfell, a mountainous community that resided near the border of Loth Angreson and Vidlander by the Altir River. All was quiet there for a few years until one evening Alfrir and Cochlear were ambushed during a routine scouting of the area, lured by a series of smoke columns they’d been sent to investigate. Cochlear’s memory of the battle is hazy but believes there to have been two assailants, dragons from the then unknown Tainted forces. Claws flurried with one another and elemental duels were fought but Cochlear remembers nothing more then the sickening moment when his rider died. With the deed done the two other dragons retreated as another member of the Swiftfire Wing converged upon the scene and rallied them off, only to find a grieving Cochlear cradling the limp body of his fallen rider. Unable to move the Water, his fellow Wing member left to bring a healer and mover to carry them both back to the encampment but by the time they had returned only the body of Alfrir’s remained. Search parties were sent to recover him but Cochlear was never found and it was assumed he had committed suicide after the death of his rider. He once tried to return to the Academy within the first few months after Alfrir’s death, but the event had left the Water in a feral state and the entire endeavor was ill fated. Cochlear has since been roaming the wilds and been a part of the Tainted Legion since the war began 26 years ago. User Information Username: Lockettree Contact: Pm Me here.
