Sun shone down, reflecting against the crashing of the waves. The rolled from the sea, piling high before breaking on the sandy shore, rolling in before out like a breath. A breath of fresh air that cools and tingles the senses on a calm sunny day. Overhead, Birds flocked, winging in and around looking for something to scavenge or to fish. They seemed to not care that a famine had overswept the land, keeping on with their own lives as if nothing had happened. She hummed to herself, coiled up as comfortable as she could along an unused dock, the serpentine lounged. Blue-black striped scales barely glistened in the late morning sun, due to lack of proper nutrients. But being in a famine did that, however now more were being given to the small life that she worked slowly to bring into the world. She worried, some, but perhaps not as much as others. Her sense of calm and nirvana eased her. They would be alright. They would work through this. She stared out into the ocean, Yellow eyes never blinking and hummed to herself again, a soft gentle lullaby, the crashing waves a harmony to her own little song. She was content to lay here, what was not coiled up of her tail, drifting in the currents lazily. It wasn’t strong enough to pull her in, but it was subtle language that she could feel. The beach was a nice change of pace, and she had gotten away from her worrying rider who kept anxiously hovering when he wasn’t busy. So she had left him to his work, finally prodding him to go do something productive, and took out to the beach. Some peace and quiet was welcome, and the rising and falling of the sea soothing in it’s own way. Though, hunger peeled at her, and she wondered if she should go and fish some. She could at least find some to curb the hunger, though she knew she wouldn’t be able to satisfy her stomach. Fruits and vegetables helped some but she was a carnivore. She needed meat ultimately to sustain herself. Stopping in her humming, she looked out, casting her eyes back to the other side of the beach. The water spoke that she wasn’t alone, another had stepped foot and while she didn’t mind the company (if they were approaching her), She liked to be aware of her surroundings. Already she knew it was not her mate, tectorum, but whomever it was, would not find unwelcome company with the water dragoness. Unlike most who got grouchy and more irritable with the famine and lack of food, she remained in check--calm, reassuring. It amazed some who interacted her--how could she be so calm in such trying times? Didn’t it anger her? Anger, however, was waste of precious energy that she didn’t have much of. Having flown recently, that commodity was now in even shorter demand as her body underwent changes to grow a child within her. She hummed again, the hauntingly soft melody rising on the wind like the waves below. She wouldnt mind if the other came to speak with her, or if they left her be. She was content. |
