We all know Mark has been working on a "secret" project for a while now, Richard Bennett made a comment in an interview that Mark was writing songs for a musical, now it seems to to confirmed (not by Mark's management) if you click the link below you can read about it from The Scotsman:

The Scotsman

It sounds exciting, it looks like they were only going to do it if they got Mark involved, which is a great testament to Mark's music, it was a big part of the film, and it will be for the musical. We will still have to wait until next year to see it though.

This has now been confirmed by Guy Fletcher. Nothing yet from Mark's official website!!!

Great one James, thank you share it.
The playwright Greig sounds so enthusiastic to me, I'm so familiar with all what he said especially about this one at the end:
“I have watched and re-watched it many, many times and never tire of its perfect mixture of situation comedy and romance, combined with a strong and important message.”
Exactly!

I'm looking forward!

This is exciting. I don't mind musicals, I have seen some at the theatre. I love the Local Hero film and music of course, the film is a British classic, and the music is very well liked even by the casual music fan. Guy mentioned a while ago that they were recording what we now know to be the Local Hero Musical, and he stated that there are many musicians involved, and some are very familiar to us all, so, I wonder who that is? I am guessing well known traditional Celtic musicians, maybe a similar line up to the Celtic players Mark had for the A Night in London show? They must have recorded the official score of music and songs. The question is, did Mark sing aswell? or just play and produce? Will there be an album? I would say there must be. Being a musical there will be lots of songs too, on the soundtrack album, there was only one song, That's The Way It Always Starts, which I love and was sung by Gerry Rafferty, so I am looking forward to hearing the new songs. This is a new direction for Mark, but one in which I know will work, I doubt he would have done it unless he knew he could come up with some great new music and songs, and being the Scottish music we know he is so good at, I am really looking forward to it.

Here is a short video done to advertise the up-coming theater season at the Lyceum in Edinburgh. There is a short synopsis of each of the productions, including Local Hero. That part of it is basically an interview which looks like it was shot at British Grove. I found it interesting. It starts at about the 8:06 minute mark on the clip.

Enjoy. :yay:

Thanks Linda, at lsat some news. So, we know we have at least 7 or 8 new songs to look forward to, although I expect there will be more than that. Good to see Mark in the studio too.

Hi, all. I don't know if someone with the Lyceum Theater reads any of the Knopfler forums, but this morning, you find that link doesn't work. Instead, they have a new one. I imagine the reason they deleted the original is that they corrected the spelling of Mark's name in the captioning! Here is the correct link.

It looks way better now! :D

I'm sure they do keep an eye out across social media and forum's, if only to gauge interest. It is great though, that the co-writer is also the Artistic Director of the Lyceum.
