Hello,

My name is Jason. I live in the US. I've been a Mark Knopfler fan since I was a kid and "Money for Nothing" was all over top 40 radio. Since then, I've picked up all the DS albums and most of the solo ones.

I love MK's guitar playing, and also the way he uses his voice. He's got a really cool sense of phrasing.

I listened to "Boom, like that" about 27.000 times on a Recent trip from boston to North Carolina.

I found this site while searching for Mark Knopfler tab/ guitar-playing sites (I play gutar and sing). I would love to find accurate tabs in PDF form. Does anyone know where I can find something like this?

Well, I hope everyone is well.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Are you searching for those guitar diagrams or rather for notes?

Thanks for the welcome. Well, The ones I am most interested in are "Sultans of swing" and "once upon a time in the west." I got a "once" off the internet and could tell it wasn't that accurate. Yes, I'm interested in Tablature, because I am terrible at reading music.

What I would really dearly like to know is how MK uses his right hand, esp. for that "boogie" stuff he does, like on "Southbound again," "setting me up," "the bug," etc. I have tried to duplicate it, but he's doing something I can't figure out.

He's got a special technique - he uses each finger to control a certain note. I don't know the exact details, I've read it in a book about Dire Straits I've borrowed from the library about a year ago.

Mark does play the guitar in a unique way,he is left handed, but plays guitar right handed, this enables him to make very large bends with ease, and control,as well as having great control with vibrato, plus his right hand technique is unique too, using 2 fingers planted onto the guitar, and using thumb and 2 other finger to do all the work, this gives him a lot of control, and the fact he fingerpicks gives him a great tone and feel to his playing, although this adapted style of fingerpicking is unique to him,it does'nt mean other people can't use it,i myself have take my style from Mark, and play just like he does, and i find it a great style, which gives me so much freedom,my other fingerpicking invluence comes from Mike Oldfield, who has a highly defined style aswell.
And so he uses this to great effect on the songs you mention above, but he also has a great sence of rythum, which he uses his fingers for awsell, sometimes he does use a plectrum for strumming, but he uses his fingers to great effect for that too.
