Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chris Balfour and i'm 37 years old. I've been a DS fan since around 1985 when Brothers In Arms came out. Being a fan of live music I especially loved Alchemy, and then seeing the great performance in Live Aid and the Wembley Arena July 85 performance on a UK tv show I was well and truly hooked.

Unfortunately I have only seen them perform live twice . The first time I saw the band was at the warm up shows for the Mandela concert in 1998, and then I saw them at Earls Court London on the On Every Street tour.

I have tracked the solo career of Mark in the last few years and I am now interested in collecting some of the various bootlegs of both DS and solo concerts over the last 20 years.

I am a particular fan of Terry Williams on the drums as I had heard him playing with Rockpile and the various offshoots in the late 70's and was pleased to see him join DS for the next few years. I was lucky enough to see Terry play with Man at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden a few years back and got to chat to him briefly as well (at the bar before the show!)

I look forward to being an active member of this forum!

Cheers

Chris

Welcome to the community, Chris! A Dire Straits fan for almost 10 years now; pure class. Wish I was born in the 60's or the 70's <_< So, are you more into the drums or the guitars? Also do you play anything yourself? :)

How many gigs are you planning to attend on the upcoming tour? :winking:

Excuse me for firing questions at you on your first visit but I'm just a little curious and you seem to be a pretty cool fan :smoker:

Hey AFCChris welcome to the board. Hope you'll like it here.

Let me put it this way. You've 'unfortunately seen them twice, live'. Well I have unfortunately seen them never, live. :( :winking: But I do hope to see them live this year.

Do tell us how the experience was. :)

And welcome again.

Faith - 20 years a fan not 10!

To answer your questions - I don't play any instruments but any rock star dreams I have had have been evenly matched between being a drummer and a guitarist! I just loved Terry Williams style of playing on the songs, and I think he's a lot better than the drummers since.

I haven't got any tickets for the new tour yet. I'm not such a full on fan of MK solo and prefer him within DS. My interest in all things MK related is being refreshed after finding this group and also getting an MP3 player and trying to get bootlegs and other things to put on it so I might well get some tickets for his UK shows.

qjamesfloyd - to answer your question about Terry, the way the conversation went was quite predicatable in that he probably didn't want to be having the conversation when trying to get a quick beer before the show, but he was friendly all the same.

Cheers

Chris
