Now that the Get Lucky album has been out for a while, I was wondering what people's favourite song was, I find it a very mature album in song writing terms, I think Monteleone is one of Mark's most beautiful songs ever, some gorgeously arrange strings, and lovely picking. and of course Remembrance day is maybe Mark's most profound and hearfelt song, equal at least to If This Goodbye in terms of its meaning. |

I'd have to pick "So Far From The Clyde". I have a great affection for many of the songs on "Get Lucky", but with the benefit of having 2 and 1/2 years to think about it, this one still stands out every time. |

Just like always with Mark's songs, I have a really hard time trying to pick a favorite! I think for sheer impact, I would have to say Remembrance Day, although So Far From the Clyde is right up there. If I let myself drift while listening, I can get through both of them without tears, but not if I actually listen to the lyrics. They just have such an impact on me. So Far From the Clyde wasn't quite so bad until I watched the video someone made of a beaching and stripping of a ship in India, set to the song. I think seeing it made its impact all the greater. :( |

And it shows Mark's enduring fascination with the sea, writing a song about ship breakers, and connecting it back again to his childhood, with the Clyde river being in Glasgow :) |
