Well, Richard put up a new post today - still no word on whether he will be winging his way to BG Studio. But he has been involved in and is still doing some interesting things. Also, he mentioned that his new record has 3 new songs recorded and when he gets back to Nashville, he will record number 4. :yay:

How do you do it Linda? I check site every day but you always see his note first :P lol. It's interesting that he's working with Neil Diamond again. And with the fact he didn't mention an upcoming recording session with Mark, does that mean he's not on the next album? Is Mark playing all the guitars himself again? Like he did with Kill To Get Crimson? Or will there be a new side man?

James - I think Guy more or less answered your question, when he replied to you recently on his forum:

Hi Guy, I think it's great Mark is taking his time choosing all the right guitars and amp etc for the song, he's in a very lucky position to be able to do that. But I was wondering if it applies to choosing the correct rhythm guitars too? Is that Mark's choice? or does Richard have more of an input?

Guy: That approach applies to everything and of course when Richard is here, he will make the choice.

I didn't take that answer as to mean when he turns up for this album though, but I guess it might mean that. It is just unusual that Richard doesn't mention recording with Mark, of course he may just not have the recording dates yet.

I see that Richard has finally updated his Notes From Nashville this morning. No mention of whether he had done any recording with Mark, though. It does make me wonder, but maybe he was told not to mention it. He is going to be recording some more songs for his next album, among other things. Great to hear definitely of a new project.

It makes me curious as well...that coupled with the fact that Guy hasn't posted anything from the session...and the band should have been there by now.

Everything around Mark's new album seems mysterious. The only diary entry was 3 months ago!! Normally Richard is very happy to talk about recording with Mark, he said it's been quiet lately so that tells me he has not been involved with the new MK album. So, either Mark has a new side man or is playing all the guitars himself like he did for Kill To Get Crimson.

Richard updated his home page on 4th July. No mention of his absence from the MK recordings. I suppose it's possible he'll still be part of the touring band & that Mark is just wanting Bruce Molsky's sound/style on the new album. Guy's diary photos show that the studio line up was a very "folky" one, and of course all the "folkies" are multi - instrumentalists. <_<

I think that Richard's and Guy's most recent diary entries provide all the evidence one needs to confirm that Richard has not been involved in the 2014 recording sessions at British Grove.

As I indicated in the other thread, Mark likes to change things up from time to time so I don't think it's any great surprise that Richard wasn't there this time around. And maybe Richard himself wanted some time to work on other things, too.
Cheers,

I noticed this morning that Richard has finally updated his Notes from the Road or maybe his Notes from Nashville. He mentions, among other things, that he will be in the house band at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's tribute concert to the Everly Brothers on October 25 in Cleveland, Ohio. Here is a link someone on AMIT included this morning to a news story that included a partial list of people who will be performing, but it did not mention whether Mark will be one of them. I guess more names will be added or released later.

I think Mark should be involved with this tribute but there is as yet no news on his website. It's good that Richard is in the house band though. I guess we'll have to wait until the seasons change for his next note. Lol

James, you were quite right about the season having to change before we could find out about whether Mark played for the Everly tribute! Richard put up a new post yesterday and talks about it among other things. He also mentions working on a movie score and several other recording projects, as well as an update about his own next album. It looks like spring for it. Lots of music this spring!

Yes looks like Richard has been busy as usual. I still am surprised mark wasn't invited to the Everly brothers tribute but he might have recorded a message. Richard didn't mention touring with Mark either.

Yes, I noticed Richard didn't mention the tour. Maybe he will on his next installment, which might appear about March! I was pretty sure I had seen something, probably several places, about who will be with Mark. According to the O2 website, here is the roster:
Quote:

Guy Fletcher (keyboards), Richard Bennett (guitar), Jim Cox (piano), Mike McGoldrick (whistle and flute), John McCusker (fiddle and cittern), Glenn Worf (bass), and Ian Thomas (drums).

If you haven't visited their site, here is the link:

Richard's fansite has an update this week. It seems to get updated a bit more frequently than his Notes From Nashville! The new album is named Contrary Cocktail and will be out in mid-April. His message is

Quote:

"I've been busy since the top of the year recording and tying up loose
ends for my new record. The collection, called Contrary Cocktail,
will be out the middle of April. The record is an eclectic mix of
things... really a snap shot of what I've been thinking about and
writing over the last couple of years. I've recorded this album with
my pal Brad Jones engineering and co-producing at his studio Alex The
Great. Yes, that's the name of the studio and I've never asked why!
This record is different in many ways and I couldn't be happier with
how it's turned out."

It will be interesting to find out how this album will be different.

Thanks for the update Linda, I wonder why he has not stated this information on his website? Still, good news though, interesting album title too, I also look forward to hearing how different it is

Richard has finally updated his diary and fansite with some new things. He reiterates that the new album, Contrary Cocktail will be available in mid-April on CD Baby, just as the other albums are. The fansite includes a new interview he has done about the album and touring with Mark.

Interview

He did also mention that tour rehearsals being at the end of April. :)

Hi, James. I guess you could say I scooped you again! I had checked Richard's site about an hour or so ago and found a note that indicated that it was some sort of test and that something would go on later. I just checked it a minute ago and found a new post. It is dated yesterday, but Richard said that it also was in the nature of a test of some new way for him to add his posts.

Anyway, he mentioned that he will be heading to London in about a week for rehearsals. Whoopee! :P Also, his new album will be out in about 10 days, etc.

Not again Linda, lol, I checked his site yesterday, and nothing new :)

Oh well, that's great that Richard is getting ready to tour again. I think I may e-mail him soon and ask what he thinks about Tracker.

Richard has posted a new note, saying that he is in rehearsal with Mark and the band, he also teased us by saying there will be a few suprises in store too  so what do we think he could be talking about? I think either a couple of songs from the early solo career, from either Golden Heart (Please :) ) or Sailing To Philadelphia, or maybe somthing from the debut Dire Straits album  which I feel could fit in with his current songs.

I noticed that they have been rehearsing since the 27th of April, and are now doing the final rehearsals on a sound stage with the lights and everything. I'm somewhat disappointed that he mentioned he probably won't post every day, but will be doing his tour posts, if only once or twice a week.

I agree Linda, I always look forward to both the American and European view of things from both Richard and Guy, maybe we should all e-mail Richard to ask him to change his mind :) On the other hand some of his tour notes did get shorter at times, and I guess if he didn't post as often he may have more to say.

Hello Stanko,

I don't know what brought it to your mind either, but I think it it would be a wonderful treat if Mark and the band decided to include "When It Comes To You" in the set list for this tour!

Out of respect I think it would be nice to correct the spelling of Richard's last name on this thread, but I don't seem to have access to that field. It just looks kind of careless and sloppy. Is someone able to fix it?

Thanks QJF,
I suspect Richard would never have noticed but I've just always had a thing for trying to get people's names right. :winky:

Funny note from Richard today, when reading it I had noticed a few spelling mistakes, which is unusual from Richard, but then reading on he says he is drinking red wine while typing and he is relying on spell check, lol. I really enjoy Richards notes, it is good to get 2 views from the tour, his and Guy's.
