When choosing your favourite, please base it on the live version on this CD, of course with What's The Matter Baby this is the only version release, as yet <_<

Love the cover of "Lions" on this one...the Rockpalast cover is good also.

I have always really liked Water of Love, but I'm not sure that I have ever heard the live version. Is there a UTube clip of the one you are referring to James?

Hi suprlinda,

"Water of Love" is one of my early DS faves too.

QJF is referring here to an album titled Dire Straits: Live at the BBC. It was recorded for a small audience at BBC Studios in 1978 (except for "Tunnel of Love" which is from a 1981 performance on the BBC show, The Old Grey Whistle Test).

The album was put together and released in 1995 after the group disbanded - primarily to complete their contractual obligation because they still owed one more album to the record label.

The track list for the album is above and I believe that's what QJF is asking people to rate - their favourite song from that album.
Cheers,
3Pints

Yeah, 3Pints, I was aware of the Live at the BBC album, and I assume that you are correct in your assumption of QJF's request, that it be from that particular album that we make our choices. But when you don't have the album, you look around for somewhere else to hear the songs, and I thought of UTube clips or recordings. :puzzledright:

Thanks, Hop. I believe that cut is one they play on PI radio quite a bit (based on what Mark says at the beginning), but it isn't identified as being from the BBC album. I just noticed that someone has uploaded a set of 8 videos under the title of Live at the BBC, so I'll have to investigate them. :waytogo:

Cheers alch

I wonder if the band ever made a studio version of What's The Matter Baby? It's never turned up anywhere else apart from here, I don't think David has released it on his solo albums either.

Lions has a killer interplay in the guitar solo/instrumental part here, but Six Blade Knife is also smoking on this album. Not that any other songs come out bad.

Your right there FSD, it is killer  the sound is so raw. If only they would release more official early live DS material :(

My apology Linda,
I just stumbled across this old message again and realised I had totally missed your point. :(
Fortunately Hophead got it and provided a UTube link. :waytogo:
