We are looking at a second holiday this year for the first time I can remember, and are in the process of booking a small cottage in Morar (near Arisaig) as it must be over 20 years since we were last there. While we were browsing the available accommodation I came across this - The building that was used as the church at the end of the beach in Local Hero has been modernised (rebuilt?) and is now available as a holiday rental !!

Unfortunately it's too big (& therefore expensive) for our needs.

Are you going to Pennan while you are up there? I realize they are not exactly that close to each other..but if I had a chance..I wouldn't be able to resist a trip to the phonebox.

Thought about that when I first saw the post appear..but at least this time I didn't 'crash the ambulance' . I guess I just wanted to get the FULL effect of the photo Linda :winky: . Looking back on it..I'm glad that the horse photo wasn't 3-D...that would have been a bit disconcerting to have those giant hairy frozen nostrils sticking out at you

Wow, good shot 3Strats. And it looks like nothing at all has changed in the area after all those years, which is a good thing.

Back again.

Weather was a bit mixed but we had a couple of days where coats & jumpers were not required!
Photos to follow when edited.

Hop:
I've wanted to go to Pennan since we first went up to Arisaig in the 90's.
We got as far as Inverness once and had to turn back due to running out of time (Wife & 9 year old daughter couldn't manage an early start
in those days), but it really is a full day trip from where we were staying & I didn't want to take up a day or use that much fuel
(at £1.38 per litre!). Maybe next time.
We had a day trip to Skye this year by road rather than taking the ferry & when I added it up I'd driven around 340 miles in the day.
Over the week, including getting there & back, I've done 1198 miles, which is going some in the U.K. !

**to remove / edit the large photo, "undock" the window & try pulling the wholewindow to the left so half is off your screen, then extend the
window to the right by pulling the right hand edge with your mouse until you can get at the edit button.
(easy on a desktop PC but perhaps not on a laptop with no proper mouse ?).

QJF:
The "cover photo" is 20 years old, but as the rock is a couple of (small) bays away from the main
Camusdarach beach I was pleased to be able to find it, it's quite difficult to get to as you have to
clamber over a few rocky outcrops to get there (and then recognise it). Being a rock, it is still there :wallbang:
but one of the trees in the background looks to have died since we were last there - (photo to follow).

Cheers,

Aidan.

Hi Aiden, I'm glad you had a great trip :) Doing over 1,000 miles in the UK is good going. And don't get me started on the price of fuel :drownded:

I look forward to your pics.

I finally got some of the photos edited- I had a the second week of my fortnight
off work last week, & got sidetracked with some D.I.Y. maintenance jobs & a
new recording project.
Below is an up to date shot of "the Rock", taken from slightly the wrong angle as
I didn't have the album cover with me for reference (LOL ! ) You wouldn't think
looking at that photo that there was a 12 foot high solid wall of rock immediately behind me as I took the photo -
I had forgotten about that in the intervening 20 years!

Rather than post the other photos I've added some to my FLickr account which
can be viewed here: My Flickr album

Great pictures, 3Strats! Although I've only seen the movie once, I think I recognized at least one of those other pictures as being a place in the film. And even though you didn't have the album cover to refer to, you must have been pretty close.

Thanks for sharing! :yay:

Very nice pics, you can see why they choose the location for a film.

Thanks folks,

In an unashamed "plug" I'll just say I've added a few more photos that give a bit more of the atmosphere of the area.

Hi Linda.

Glad you like them.

We were staying in Morar village and had found out before we arrived that the local Highland games (for the local port of Mallaig and Morar combined) were taking place in the village on the day after we arrived. All those photos of Scottish dancing, pipers & strong man events were taken on the same afternoon, and after that it was back to the peace & quiet you would normally expect !
