This morning on Guy's forum, he said it is his understanding that some sort of recordings from the tour will be available. Since Simfy is not available, it will be interesting to see whether it happens, and if so, what form the recordings take.

Great news, at least for all of you in Europe? :) I'm still kind of skeptical about whether those of us in North America will be able to get ahold of them, courtesy of Warner. :(

Who knows Linda..maybe we will be able to get them as downloads..or order the CDs directly through the sponsors site..or PCM. If they have already set out plans for recording..which with Guy's comment it now appears obvious..I would have to believe that they would already have plans in motion for distribution in the US...too big of a market to be ignored.

Amazing! I just got an email from MK.com. We'll be able to pre-order USBs for each of the concerts! It doesn't say how much they will be, and the store doesn't actually have anything listed about them yet. Of course, for those who can actually go to the concerts it'll be easy for them - just pre-order the concerts they will attend.

Anyway, this is great news for us over here on this side of the pond. :waytogo:

He He - that's the coolest USB stick ever ! I'll wait until I see how much they are going to be (and what variations there are in the set) before buying multiple concerts but I'll definitely be getting the one from the show I'll be attending. I downloaded 3 Simfy shows last time & got more or less everything they played.

The only thing I'm wondering about: what's the benefit of preordering? Will you not be able to get the USB stick at the venue itself? (like last time?)
It's volcanic desire, the unquenchable fire, it isn't a question of having a choice...

It doesn't appear so MKB..it says you can either pre-order the show you want...or order after the show. And..in case you haven't noticed..the RAH shows are NOT included on the list of shows that will be available. Curious!! Maybe there will be something special coming out of these shows....a DVD perhaps?

The price on the email I received is 30 euros plus postage, which seems very expensive to me. Last time with Simfy we had the option to buy the stick directly after the concert, or to download at home. I chose to download at home, because it was less than half the price - £11 if I remember correctly and I bought ten downloads. There doesn't seem to be that option this time.

I would definitely buy one or two, but more than that would be far too expensive. Also, I don't want a drawerful of red guitars - one as a memento is quite enough!

I agree with you Val about the price seems to be a bit high, but of course, I'm betting the nifty little strat has a higher cost percentage than we would imagine. <_<

What I found real interesting is the fact that the only way you can actually access the ordering information is from the "click online" in the news message or the email. The store does not have any kind of listing for the sticks. I don't recall, but was that how they worked it with ordering the Simfy recordings?

Hophead, I think we are both dreaming about DVDs, but dream on! :P

Hi Linda! I don't know if your email is different to mine, but if I click on to "available online", "MarkKnopfler-Live.com" or "Pre-order now" it shows all 64 of the available venues to choose from.

Hi, Val. Yes, mine does the same thing. What I was meaning was that if you go to MK.com and click on Store, at this time, there is no listing that I could find for the USBs. So that was what I was wondering, if you decided later to order something, if you would have to do it from that email only.

Not so sure of that Linda...read Guy's recent posts..and read between the lines. There is something special afoot for RAH.

I sure hope you are correct, and I have noticed Guy's comments that seem to alude to something afoot. But, I also know, he has made somewhat similar comments in the past, and nothing ever happened. I also know that, in the past at least, Mark hasn't really had any desire for videos, but maybe that was more for specific songs, rather than for concerts. It is a cinch that the type of music he is writing now is way different from what he was writing when they did the last video - RLRR, and it was a lot different from ANinL.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

Mark does seem uncomfortable at times with video..it just seems really odd to me that they would exclude those shows specifically. According to Guy..there is a reason..he just can't comment about it at this time.

I seem to remember that once upon a time, from what Guy said, it seemed like doing those kind of recordings at RAH is pretty expensive. The discussion followed along the line that what you could then charge people for them would really price them out of range for the majority (so you didn't go in the hole on production costs). I always thought that was why they haven't done any there in the past, even though other performers have.

This is fantastic news, the guitar shape stick looks really cool  However it does seem a bit expensive, 30 Euros at the moment is £25.33 or US$38.44 and when you consider the price of a CD has gone way down, and the price of download even cheaper, makes you wonder, but in saying that, I guess you paying for the speed of getting the music so quick and the live performance, and the price of recording every show. I'm sure I'll buy a show or two, but might wait untill the tour is underway to see what Mark is playing. But seeing as official live material from Mark's solo years is relatively scarce It's worth buying this.

I can't read German, so I really am not sure what I would be doing when trying to order one of the guitar USB sticks, so I am reluctant to try it.
Has anybody found a way to read the order site in English?
And does anyone know for sure if we in North America are allowed to order? We couldn't order the Simfy USB sticks, apparently due to conflict with Warner Bros.
Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

Now that it looks like we will be able to buy them, since we won't be seeing and hearing the concert, how to choose the venue? Any suggestions? I'm inclined to wait and see what kind of set list they will be playing. Also, anyone have any insight into venues that have really great sound, other than RAH?

Yes, this is a bit tricky, I am not going to any shows, so how do I choose? It might have to be a case of wait and see what people think was a great show then order it. I seem to remember the Luxembourg show being rated the best from the Get Lucky tour.

Since they are soundboard recordings, I would think the acoustics of the venue might not matter too much (?) to the recordings.
I would like to be able to know the set lists before ordering, just so I could buy maybe two of the USB sticks and cover most of the songs played on the tour.

Yes, I don't think the venue will matter really, but I might let them play 7 or 8 shows, so they really get going, and the performance might be better then.

I bought 3 of the Simfy recordings from the last tour: RAH, Luxembourg & Newcastle (which I attended). Newcastle wasn't available at first & must have been released to Simfy a few weeks after they started making the other shows available.
The ambience on each is quite different due to the mix of house mics (for applause etc). RAH has much less reverberation(echo) than Luxembourg (which was a big "hangar") & Newcastle is somewhere in the middle although that was also in an indoor "arena". As Knopfling says, it may be an idea to wait until we see the variations in the setlist before making a decision - I will definitely be getting Newcastle again, but I don't think I'll be getting 2 others at the price they are asking.

Out of the 3 you bought, on a performance level was Luxembourg the best? that was what I heard.

I bought ten of the 2010 recordings. Initially I only bought the RAH recording and enjoyed it very much. Later the rest of the UK recordings were handed to Simfy to mix, etc and I bought Manchester, Brighton, Bournemouth and Glasgow. The rest were various European recordings that were recommended highly.

Of all of the ten, I noticed that the RAH recording was quite muddy compared with the rest, although I enjoyed the performance. Almost three years on, the only two I am still listening to are from Manchester and Bournemouth, which have great sound and also the best performance compared to the others I bought. Also the set-lists from these two were different to eachother.

This time I will be at Amsterdam, Liverpool and Carcassonne and two RAH shows, but I will only be buying two USB sticks - Liverpool and Carcassonne, because the price is too high for more! If there had been a download option, I know I would have been tempted to buy more!

I agree with Val that the RAH sounds a bit muddy or somehow muffled, & that might be down to the lack of reverberation compared to the others. The acoustics in the RAH will also have made a difference. I prefer the Newcastle show to Luxembourg because there is slightly less ambient reverb bouncing about. There were minor differences in the solos and they played Cleaning my Gun & What It Is, which were not played at Newcastle, but I don't think there is much of a difference, performance wise.
