MarkKnopfler.com has great news this morning! After 35 years with Warner Music, Mark signed a new contract with Universal Music. Privateering will finally be released in North America! :waytogo: I began to think he would never get a new contract.

Thanks for posting this Linda :) You beat me to it,lol.

This is very interesting news, I wonder after all these years with the same label he decided to move? It is of course fantastic news that Privateering will at last be released in America, this explains the up-coming North America mini tour, and some TV shows too I hear.

I did think it a bit lazy of the "new" record label to re-hash Mark's old statement about Privateering though, most of what is written in that statement came out when the album was first released

But, the thing I have thought about is, this is good news for future releases, Universal are going to want to really promote Mark, they know he is a big draw, and I am wondering now if they would be willing to release a concert DVD/Blu-Ray :grouphug:

After a bit of looking into Mark's new record label Verve Records, I have found there website, which is very interesting. I can now see why Universal have put Mark with Verve, if you click the link below you can look through the artists they have on their books, and it's a more mature line up, including Rod Stewart, Agnetha Faltskog, Andrea Bocelli among others, but Mark is not yet on the artist list, he is mentioned in their news section. Also, the chairman and CEO of the label is David Foster, who Mark knows personaly and has even recorded with, on the instrumental track Voices That Care.

It sure seems sensible to me for Mark to have signed with Universal for North American distribution. Now there is only one company to deal with. Hopefully, this will also help bring prices down here, as some things which are available are from Universal Japan, and therefore "imported," and therefore, more expensive. Privateering has been a great example of that. I can only hope that they will do a DVD now. I suspect Warner was not in favor. I have seen something which indicated that they didn't make enough money on the Real Live Roadrunning DVD.

You could be correct Linda, I suspect that Universal will want to push Mark as a "new" artist, so fingers crossed for a live DVD/Blu-Ray, they might even record some shows in North America.

Amazon USA is showing Privateering as a pre-order with a release date of September 10. It possible that the tour will be timed shortly after the release. Here's hoping they record a live DVD/blu-ray!

Hi, Maheshs, After seeing your post, I also looked on Amazon, as I was curious about the price. I noticed that they are only showing CD and Vinyl, and the price on those pre-orders is substantially less than the imports which were and are still available. Also, Universal's are showing a year of 2013, whereas the originals are showing a date of 2012.

I sure hope you are correct about a tour and DVD, etc. That would give us all something to talk about.
