On the AMIT forum this morning, there was some discussion of an on-line site that includes radio clips for the show The Pickup, a radio show which is broadcast weekly that also has an on-line site about guitarists, etc. from each episode. Joe Bonamassa is one of the hosts and on this, yesterday's, program tells of the five Strat players he believes are the top players in the world, and why, in his opinion, he has included them in his list. As he speaks of each of the five, he includes a clip of a song he feels is representative of why they should be on the list. (And, of course, not everyone will agree with his list, but at least he included Mark in it! :) )

I particularly liked the inclusion of those clips, as I was not familiar with one of the names on Joe's list, and certainly wouldn't have gotten as much out of the program if I only heard him talking about the players with no demonstration of what he talked about.

Here is the link: The Pickup

Thanks for this Linda, good spot. And what a great quote from Joe "Nobody can make a stratocaster sound like Mark Knopfler"

I never knew that Joe liked Mark, I knew he liked Eric Clapton but not Mark, and it's great that he does, because Joe is one of the new generation of great guitar players.

I was surprised he didn't have David Gilmour in his top 5 but eveyone's choice is different. But he is clearly a fan, because he was talking about David Knopfler too.

Am I correct in thinking I heard Joe say he would like to jam with Mark, also? I thought that was interesting, too,

I didn't hear that part Linda, but you may be correct. I have not heard much of Joe's playing but I have heard some and it is quite lyrical a la Mark, but I'd say his playing is more Eric Clapton style blues playing.
