It's about time someone started a thread about this great soundtrack album, so I will :) I have always loved this album, and I consider it Mark's 2nd best soundtrack, afte Local Hero. I have not seen Cal the movie so I can't say if they music compliments the on screen action, but I always think the "mark" of a good soundtrack is that it can stand up on it's own without the visuals, and Cal does that, from the gentle opener of Irish Boy and The Road, through the beautiful Irish Love, and the ceiidh a like Father & Son to the wonderful closing track The Long Road. It really does bring to the mind with wonderful Irish scenery even without seeing the film. And it proves how good Mark is in the Celtic genre just as Local Hero did for the Scottish Celts, so Cal does for the Irish. And it also shows Mark is equally adept with and acoustic guitar as he is with the electric. I think it also shows how much Mark still likes this music by the fact he is still playing Father & Son. |
